If i picked 3 QBs for all-time UM team:
Jim Harbaugh
Elvis Grbac
Denard Robinson
.
correct me.
-
I wouldn't pick Denard, but I'm no Michigan Man
I'd go with Tom Brady because of his impressive NFL credentials
-
Yeah, I just want this to be a team that UM fans will smile when they see who's on it. And if I used Robinson, it would actually take a RB spot away if I used his rushing yards.
So good call, thanks.
-
Would Michigan fans want Rick Leach in there over Brady?
-
If I can get 4 RBs for All-Time Michigan.....
Tom Harmon
Tyrone Wheatley
Anthony Thomas
and ___________________.
.
Who?
Jamie Morris?
Michael Hart?
Butch Woolfork?
Rob Lytle?
Some dude from 1907?
.
Help me out.
-
If done accurately, then the whole entire roster would be pre-civil war.
-
Drew Henson junior year would be my top choice.
-
I think I'm leaning towards career.
Career comp %, Int %, yards per carry, yards per reception, etc.
-
All-Time UM pass-catchers (WR + TE), I can pick 6:
Braylon Edwards
Anthony Carter
Desmond Howard
Amani Toomer
Mario Manningham
and _________________.
.
Gallon? Streets? McMurtry? Alexander? Do we want to stick Jake Butt in there? Terrell?

QBs: Hard to quantify this. I looked at wins over rivals and championships.
Running backs: So many good one to pick from...
Mike Hart
Rob Lytle
Billy Taylor
Tom Harmon
Wide receivers:
Braylon Edwards
Amani Toomer
Desmond Howard
Anthony Carter

Would you guys want another good WR there in the last spot, or do you think it'd be weird not including a great TE?

IMHO it would be weird to not have a TE on EVERY all-time roster.
Some schools might have more than one out of their 6 pass-catchers, but just to make it uniform I wouldn't make any school with zero TEs.
-
Yeah, I was thinking about the 3 yards and a cloud of dust programs, but you're right.
-
Soooooo, Jake Butt? Tuman? Some old-timey guy?

Now that I've broken it down into all-star teams by decade, I doubt many modern teams will have a TE. But some from the past will have 2, for sure.
-
1970s UM:
QBs: Leach for sure......Franklin if I want to make the team option-only, or John Wangler if not. I'm leaning towards Franklin.
RBs: QB spot if we go all-option, so only 3 RBs in that case: Rob Lytle, Gordon Bell.....then Harlan Huckleby? There's Shuttlesworth and Russell Davis right there, too. Or Chuck Heater maybe a rung below. I definitely want a true FB in there.
.
WRs: Jim Smith, Ralph Clayton, Doug Marsh (TE), Glen Doughty (RB), Gil Chapman, Paul Seal (TE).....slim pickin's here
*Woolfork and Carter will be on the 80s team
-
Anthony Carter for WR. Just ask Lee Corso about the 1979 Indiana game.
-
He's going on the 80s team, as the bulk of his career was 80-82. His 27 yards per reception in '79 was bananas, though.
-
I may have noted this in the past, but UM's statistics archive is strange: it has tackles for loss yards lost but not simply how many TFL.
-
1980s UM All-Star Team:
QB: Harbaugh, Steve Smith
RB: Morris, Woolfork, Boles, Hoard
WR/TE: A.Carter, McMurtry, Bean, Morris, Kolesar, Sim Nelson (TE)
Sacks: Messner, Hammerstein, Robert Thompson, TJ Osman
INTs: Vada Murray, Evan Cooper, Keith Bostic, Tripp Welborne
K: Mike Gillette
P: Monte Robbins
KR: A.Carter
PR: A.Carter or Welborne
.
Edits?
Hoard is ahead of a couple of similar guys, due to name recognition. Is there a strictly-FB I'm missing? I could use J.Bunch, but he reeeally wasn't very productive, yardage-wise.
-
1990s UM All-Stars:
QB: Grbac, Brady, Greise (special, 3 QB team!)
RB: Wheatley, Thomas, Biakabutuka, Powers
WR/TE: Howard, Toomer, Streets, Alexander, Hayes, Tuman (TE)
Sacks: James Hall, Dhani Jones, Josh Williams
INT: Woodson, Patmon, Ray, Law
K: Hamilton
P: Stapleton (or Epstein)
KR: Howard
PR: Howard (or Alexander)
Pretty cut-and-dry team.
-
Rick Leach would be on my list, but I'm an old-timer. Brady would probably be a more popular pick among the populists but he only had a couple years under his belt, as opposed to Leach's 4.
The best running back Michigan had was Tyrone Whetley. Unfortunately, after he hurt his knew and had surgery, he was never the same. I would put Hart in there for length of service and yards. Hard to skip pass Morris, though.
-
Anthony Carter for WR. Just ask Lee Corso about the 1979 Indiana game.
Carter is always the sentimental pick. It was he that ushered in the true passing era at Michigan. Was hard to get good WR talent prior to him.
-
They peaked in 1901-04, going undefeated with the lone tie vs Minnesota where the Little Brown Jug was born. Four National Championships/Big Ten Titles, and a victory in the first ever Rose Bowl; outscoring their opponents 2,326-40 with Yost's point a minute offense.
Been all down hill ever since.

tough to stay at that level
ask Saban and Meyer
-
Was that when they had more ringers than Homer Simpson's company softball team?

-
Alright, get me their positions, jersey numbers, and yards-per-everything.
-
Jersey numbers? Jersey numbers?!
They don't need no stinking jersey numbers!
-
Ah dang it. That post is going to make no sense at all at the top of a new page.
Man. This always happens.

I'd say Don Brackens for punter. That guy was amazing.
