SCROLL DOWN TO HELP WITH ALL-TIME TEAMS BY POSITION - FIRST IS WISCONSIN QB
Say you're playing a football board game and you get the All-Time Michigan team set.
What sounds better:
a - all of your RBs and WRs are all-time greats, all with great stats, so that their game outcomes will all be pretty equal, OR
.
b - it's more tiered, so that you have an all-time great 1st-teamer, then an all-time great backup who had fewer carries or catches? So for WRs, you'd have 1 from the group of all-time greats that had 100+ catches, then you'd have 1 from the next group that had 80-100 catches, and so forth.

Basically I'm torn between just full-on all-time great players vs creating a team of all-time greats, but with realistic ratios of performance that would mimic a normal team.

I'm leaning towards A, but I wanted some opinions.

Yeah, I mean, by luck of the draw, you'll often have 1 or 2 guys have a big game. If it was possible to have an all-time in real life, that's likely what would actually happen - they'd take turns having monster games.

Darrell Bevell
Joel Stave
Brooks Bollinger
.
And if it's single-season, Russell Wilson would replace one of those.

I'd pull Stave for Scott Tolzien, and I'd put Russell in for Bevell.
Randy Wright was pretty good in the 80's.

Montee Ball.
Brent Moss was really good. So were Crazy Legs, James White, Terrell Fletcher, The Roadrunner.
Taylor is the best ever to play in Madison. Sorry Ron.

After that, Stave, Bollinger, Coan, I guess Sorgi in some order.
Wilson was obviously the best for a season, followed by Ron Vander Kelen, who played four years of DB and didn't really play. They put him at QB, he was fourth in the country in passing yards and fourth in rating, led UW to a 8-2 record, in which they lost a No. 1 vs. 2 Rose Bowl. USC ran up a 42-14 lead, but Wisconsin scored 23 points to cut the lead to 5 with 1:19 left, but UW couldn't get the onside kick. Vander Kelen was ninth in Heisman voting that year

All-Time Wisconsin pass-catchers........this gets a little tricky, but basically it's 6 WR/TEs, but if any RBs were big in the passing game, they'd take a spot from the WR/TE.
Fortunately for us, Badger RBs basically know how to do 1 thing: run the damn ball.
So the 6 pass-catchers:
Lee Evans
Jared Abbrederis
Al Toon
Travis Beckum (TE)
Chris Chambers
Lee DeRamus
.
maybe sub in an old-timey guy or Fumagalli in for DeRamus.

The point is pass catching, right? So a good blocking TE might not do it for us? Lance Kendricks was a hell of a player, but he only really produced late and blocking was big for him.
I'm too young to remember DeRamus, so Badge can speak better. I'd put Brandon Williams over him. I probably put Pat Richter in over Chambers, who was a little before my time (Pat might be before Badge's time, though he ended up AD). Pat had two seasons where he led the Big 10 in catches, yards TDs, coming in 2nd/4th, 1st/seventh and 1st/6th in the NCAA in catches, yards and TDs, respectively. Those teams wend 6-3 as a junior, and then 8-2 and No. 2 with that senior squad.

Yeah, I knew who he was, but I couldn't speak to his game-breaker-ness. Chambers is a weird one to me. Like he was quite good, but not great, great, yet was drafted second round.

Without looking up his height/weight, I recall Chambers just being a man-child looking guy. Like DK Metcalf minus 20 years of evolution.

Pat Richter may well be the best student athlete that UW has ever had.
He lettered 3 times in each for football, basketball and baseball. All-America in football, on top of academic All-America.
Who does that??
