Who would it be?
What about Big Ten players only?
MSU's best defenses are built from the back up. So nationally, it's easy, Derwin James. He can play CB if needed, but if Scott/Layne, pan out and stay healthy, he's even more needed at safety, where he's probably even better.
Seems odd to start there, but the lack of a good secondary has crushes MSU the past two years, and I think the gap between MSU and the top guys in the nation is larger there than at QB.
But Big Ten only is trickier, because I don't see a true difference maker in the conference back there right now.
Saquon Barkley is the best player, but MSU's position with the best combination of talent and depth is RB, so I'm not sure how much better going from really good to elite gets you when you have glaring holes elsewhere.
So I'd go with Rashan Gary. You can't go wrong on the line with him, or either of the OSU guys, but I like Gary's upside more. If this is a "add to your team going forward" it gets even easier as he has to return in 2018 too.

The best OL in the nation (or B1G, if we're limited there), except for Center. Purdue has experience at Center.
Given that it's such an important position in any passing offense, I'm going to say probably the best left tackle in the nation. Come on over to West Lafayette, son, we need ya!

I'll go with Trace McSorley. UW has a decent starter, but he'd be a better backup in this case. And there is nothing behind him with any game snaps, so yeah. I'll go QB.

Tyquan Lewis. We need DL help.

Mitch Hyatt, Clemson's killer left tackle, who grew up 30 miles from Athens in Gwinnett County but is a Clemson legacy.

Nationally it'd be Derwin James. With him and Fitzpatrick we'd have 2 nasty safeties. Or could match up Harrison with James and move Fitzpatrick back to corner. Either way the secondary would be sick.
I'm sec I'd go with either Trent Thomson or Arden key. Prob key. Beef up the dline some more.
From the B1G I'd go either with a te, gisecki or fumagelli (what's up with the te names?) or dline again, either bosa or gary.

I'm going Barkley, because I don't have great confidence in Weber. I think the secondary will grow up fast, so I'd rather gamble there.

Well, you spelled both of the TE's wrong. :)
One was a 4* and the other was a walk-on. Three guesses which is which. Or one guess perhaps.

I will go with Jerry Rice -- in his prime. Iowa is so desperately in need of a receiver. And even if they weren't desperate -- Jerry Rice in his prime -- is still a good choice. Oops -- a current player -- Nick Westbrook, Indiana.

Since Iowa is extremely weak at WR, I would take a WR.

that was the point. i had to look up their names and still spelled it wrong.
and i don't care about stars. i care about the 600+/- yds and 5+/- td's they'll add to the offense. bama is full of 4/5 stars, but we've seen our share of low rated recruits and walkon's turn into greats too.

Fitzpatrick was the 1b to James 1a as my pick nationally as a guy who can play anywhere in the secondary. I just like James a smidgen better.

OSU's roster is pretty stacked, so I guess I'd take Ttun's best player, whoever that might be, just to honk them off.

They still have a lot of great players. Look on the OL and DL to start.

Well they did graduate the best player in CFB history last year. So if a fella were to have focused on what was going on in those trenches, he'd run the risk of missing out on the greatness. And we can't have that.
