Had no idea they were even doing a season, but apparently it's starting up this weekend.
Did they move the NCAA tourney to the spring?
-
yes, April 8th -24th
-
Penn St-Michigan "Postponed"
-
yes, April 8th -24th
To be played in Omaha... of course.
-
volleyball center of the universe
-
Very strange season ahead. Some leagues played half a season in fall and will now resume. Big Tens 22 game sked with 2 matches vs 11 opponents. You lose your setter w CV Good chance you're in trouble. Reduced field to 48.
-
First place in the Big Ten!

-
Gagged away an 8 point lead in the 2nd set, just as hockey turned a 1-0 lead into a 4-1 deficit
-
Undefeated so far.

-
Northwestern w CV issues postponed 2 matches at Nebraska.
Meanwhile Rutgers beat IU in 4 sets. That might be Rutgers first victory in fewer than 5 sets since they joined the Big Ten.
-
Still haven't lost a game in the 2020s.

-
I watched some of that yesterday, OSU was unreal in the first set. MSU actually played pretty well, and it still wasn't close.
-
I spent a decent part of the weekend at a massive Midwest club tournament here in Indy. Noticeable uptick in IL/OH teams for this one, in light of those state's restrictions. Parents pretty excited to see some action.
-
Got 'em again, this time in 5.
Still haven't lost a game since the 2010s, what a run.
-
Rutgers is officially not horrible this season. They may still be in basement but the Russian/eastern European strategy appears to be working out.

Brutal 3rd set choke here
Were up 20-14, lost 28-26. Ugh
-
The Buckeyes reverse swept the Nittany Lionesses.
-
good match in Lincoln tonight
-
I expect MSU to get manhandled by #1 this weekend.

Just another day with a goose egg in the L column.

-
My God Wisconsin
-
So the first game between and of the big 4 goes to the Gophers
those 4 teams are going to be a very tough match every time they take the court
-
For as lousy as Nebraska passed the ball early, hard to believe they were in that match at all. Did improve as match went on. Got blocked out of the gym is the story I saw. Sun seemed to have a zillion errors .
-
Just another run of the mill five setter in the W column.
-
Nice rebound by Nebraska. Crisp passing, Sun played quite well. Really served Minnesota into trouble.
-
Starting to sneak onto the radar here, with some national recognition. No more sneaking up on folks.

Also some personal accolades aimed towards Sargent Big Mac.

OSU not playing Wisconsin is a real nice bonus this season
-
Not that I like to tout the AVCA poll (note: a coach is still putting Hawaii in the poll this week, and Hawaii isn't even playing this season) but Stanford fell out of the poll for the first time in history. I think that leaves Nebraska as the only program to be ranked in all 580 or so polls. This strange season gets a little more unusual.
-
With apparent CV breakout at MSU. They are pausing vball and gymnastics. Out of caution, UW postponed matches w Nebraska this weekend. Mich and MN also off. Bummer. Going to be tough to swing this many makeups if at all.
-
hope they make up that Ne and Wisc match that would be a fun one to watch
-
So the Wolverines "got covid" right before the season opener against Penn State, then suffered another outbreak the week of the Minnesota game?
Can we pencil in a third, going into their final stretch against Nebraska and Wisconsin?
-
Michigan is already cooked starting 1-3. 48 team bracket. BiG will be looking at 7bids max I'd guess.
Even Rutger has 2 wins already.
-
Rutgers remains stuck on two wins, after a straight sets loss to undefeated OSU.
-
Iowa v NW making up for the cancelations of the weekend with a marathon 5 setter. Iowa wins in 5, set two was 39-37 Hawks.
-
Just grinding out another 5 setter.
.
At 11-0, OSU noses ahead of 10-0 Wisconsin for sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.

PSU is not great?

League schedule a mess. Records won't tell you much.

Well they have a higher RPI (75) than Nebraska (78) or Ohio State (88). :d030:

Well, I figured it would go 5 sets with the Buckeyes. Nebraska pulls it out. Ohio St seemed worn out down the stretch. I saw enough SEs to cover the weekend. Hope my daughter's team doesn't serve like this tomorrow.
UW v NW postponed. Badgers with a month off before they hopefully get to play Minnesota next week. From what I hear 7 Badgers were positive the days after the MSU match.
Schedule a big mess.

Would love to see OSU play Wisc or MN and see how they do
too bad schedules didn't align for all the top 4 to play each other so you could see more of a honest representation

there's always the tourney!
fingers crossed!
-
Finally watched sat match. TOSU is definitely T10. Nebraska, I hate admitting this, just doesn't seem to have much intensity. It's looked like this a few times this year. I wouldn't have bet on N as FF before year, and not seeing it differently now. That's not to diminish osu at all.

I agree
hopefully the lady skers can turn it up

Sun earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week honor in the last three weeks. For the season, she leads the Huskers in kills at 3.98 per set and aces (16).
-
Wis and Minn made a go at it with back up setters and other missing parts. Pretty lackluster match. Not much to get excited about this season. Ohio st v Nebraska series notwithstanding.
-
Nebraska Michigan played tonight. The bummer is one of them will be done till ncaa. Wi and PSU postponed. Depending on who has the CV issue, Michigan or Nebraska will not play next week.
This is not even a half assed season. It's too bad.
-
bummer

This week's Nebraska vs. Penn State volleyball matches at the Bob Devaney Sports Center have been canceled. The decision was mutually agreed upon out of an abundance of caution surrounding the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches and staff relating to COVID-19. The contests will not be rescheduled.
The Huskers, 14-2 and ranked No. 4 in the AVCA Poll, will turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament, which begins April 14 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. The first round will be played April 14, and the second round will be played April 15. After a two-day break, the regional semifinals and finals will be played on April 18-19. The NCAA Semifinals are set for Thursday, April 22, and the NCAA Championship will be on Saturday, April 24.

So there was a 'season' and we had about 1/3 of the total possible matches played between the likeliest ncaa participants in the BIG. One big fart of a season.
On the upside, Rutgers got out of the basement.
-
Not so fast. Big Ten announced that several of the matches they 'postponed' due to CV reasons were not in fact because of CV. Matches now considered forfeits. What a joke. Why not just say you're not playing the season. Lots of strange things going on in Evanston lately, not just this.

There's a story to be written here, I just haven't seen it, yet. Been a bunch of half blurbs and tweets.

Wisconsin ought to be audited. They "got covid" for Nebraska, Penn St and one game vs Minnesota, and are poised to steal a big ten title without having to square off against any of the title contenders. Not to mention they already ducked OSU and Purdue as a gift from the schedule gods. But instead they are gifted two more wins from Northwestern's non-covid cancelations. A little fishy...

but, did the Badgerettes beat Michigan?

Should be fun, hope we can give y'all a match. I have conference calls so probably won't be able to watch it live.
-
Will Stivrins play? UT ain't Baylor, they will need her today me thinks, as inspired as Caffey and Schwall played yesterday.
-
U dub sticking it to two ACC teams with huge 5 set comebacks within 24 hrs. Pitt really looked like they had it
-
Poor Purdue v UK won't start until very late tonight at this pace.
-
good match so far
one set each
-
Too many Jimmies and Joes (or equivalent). No answer for Fields. Texas superior in every facet but serving. Well deserved for UT.
-
yup, Husker block was not effective vs those big hitters
-
I only got to watch a little of it in a small window on one of my monitors during some conference calls, and what I caught was actually the second set where the Huskers looked really good.
Anyway, congrats on a good (if weird) season, and best of luck next year.

Gators and Badgers had a good match

Congrats to the Badgers on the win.
Kentucky and Purdue gonna get sleepy before it's all over...?

My team already lost.
Yet I remained stoic and took it like a man, without any profanity laced tirades and temper tantrums.
So between myself and UTee, you have opposite ends of the spectrum.
UTee's reactions provide much more entertainment value. I am looking forward to the show. Maybe there will be some waterworks this time around.

so you like to run 3rd party smack
nobody likes that
you are breaking one of the unwritten rules
-
There's definitely someone falling apart on this thread. Everyone else can see it, if you can't.
Wisconsin has a great team, they've made it to the championship game twice in the past 7 years I think, including the most recent one? They've accomplished quite a bit. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they won, nor would it bother me.
You do a lot of projecting. It's weird.
-
Gaslighting, eh? That's fun.
''''''''''''''''
This was all because I had the audacity to pick BYU over Texas on a Big Ten (not Big 12) board, then being pleased when my prediction came to fruition.
3rd party smack. Lame. You're kind of an asshole sometimes.
And once again, you're an asshole.
How'd Ohio State do in the Elite 8?
tOSU sucks donkey shit through a straw, and so do you. You're a weak, lame, 3rd party-smacking, coattail riding little bitch.
Oh, and Texas has scoreboard on your football team, too, beeeyotch.
At this point I actually thought that UTee was kidding. How could a grown man actually allow himself to behave like this, and expect to be taken seriously?
Eh. You're the one that decided to run 3rd party smack. You reap what you sow.
.
Speaking of the gridiron-- SCOREBOARD, BEEEEEYOTCH. (No weak-ass 3rd party smack here)
OK. Cool. Hook 'Em!
Oh I'm sorry, did I hurt your feelings? If you don't want to be called an asshole, don't act like one.
Oh and by the way, I am a mod. Would you like to be banned? I can take care of that for you.
OK. Cool. Hook 'Em!
At this point it became evident that he wasn't kidding at all. UTee really is this big of a toolbox. :57:
Dude, you decided to be an asshole toward someone you don't know and will never meet, about what you appear to believe is a meaningless volleyball game. Why?
Think about that and let it sink in.
OK. Cool. Hook 'Em!
There were about a million more "OK. Cool. Hook 'Em!" posts mixed in that I omitted for the sake of brevity.
He was so unglued that he was stuck on repeat like a skipping record.

Eh, he's got his guard up this year.
Last time he showed his ass enthusiastically, with minimal provocation. This time around I am actually trying to get under his skin a little bit, but he is bound and determined to hide behind this stoic façade.
I'm sure that it is just killing him inside, but he has made it this far. I suspect he rides it out to the finish line.

If you didn't "note" it the last 200 times you deployed your new record skipping buzz phrase that replaced the Tom Herman tweet, then you aren't going to "note" it this time around either.
Here's how it is going to go down. UTee is going to do this little stoic act, biding his time until after the NCG. Then his next move will depend entirely on the outcome.
Texas wins: He shows up here to gloat and showboat and spike the football.
Kentucky wins: I poke him in the eye one last time, and it finally pushes him past his breaking point.
Either way, he will put on a pretty entertaining show.

as I watched the Longhorns take down the great Husker squad, I figured the Horns were probably the best team in the nation.
Kentucky has no chance
-
I wouldnt say that. However, a Texas team that can serve and pass the way they have here this past week, really hard to beat 3/5. That's been the UT Achilles in past, thus far, no issue.
UK has enough offense, nobody's been able to block Texas well enough to give themselves a chance with transition. Nebraska had a good game plan, just badly performed in serve receive and on OH/Opp. That's a jimmy and Joe problem.
Wisconsin had some moments, oddly it was the Freshman, not the ton of seniors, that really came to play for them. Don't like to name names but their two studs were not very impactful last night.
-
I was stirring a bit, but, until someone blocks Texas at least decently, they are the fav
-
It's interesting, and this is me being wonky w vball as a coach and frequent viewer, Texas has gone the route of 3 DS' defensive specialists, to be their strategy for passing in back row and really let their 3 weapons be their offense. It's really worked well. Kentucky has to serve really tough, at Logan and force Texas out of system as much as possible (admittedly a captain obvious strategy). I think UK has the mix of talent to do this. Best setter, yes, Lilley can't do it alone. Can they avoid the Bridesmaid crowd which continues to grow?
-
Horns down, rump roast up!
Kentucky wins their first NC.

My local book had UK as -160 moneyline fav. Texas was +130. I had a small wager. That was a very high level volleyball match. Was rooting for 5 sets. The kid, Stumler, from Floyd Knobs, IN was really special for UK. First SEC title in vball. First New champ since Washington over 15 years ago. Probably best non 5 set final I've seen in a long time. UK will miss Lilley but wouldn't be surprised to see these two in the Finals again this fall.

Nebraska volleyball’s national title hopes received a big boost on Friday as senior middle blocker Lauren Stivrins announced she will take advantage of a bonus year of eligibility and return to Nebraska this fall.
The news is a potential big boost for the Huskers, who will also have Lexi Sun back taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility. Stivrins has earned All-American honors three times during her Husker career, and was a first-team All-American last season for the Big Red.
Nebraska will host its annual Red-White scrimmage on Aug. 21, with the regular season schedule getting underway Aug. 27 at home against Tulsa.
