Title: Penix out with torn ACL
Post by: LetsGoPeay on November 30, 2020, 12:29:30 PM
Of course. It's Indiana football. We're not allowed to have nice things. Time to see if this Tuttle kid is any good. He was highly regarded in high school.

Indiana quarterback Michael Penix has a torn his ACL and will be out for the rest of the season, IU coach Tom Allen confirmed.
Penix suffered the injury in the the third quarter of Indiana’s 27-11 Big Ten win over Maryland on Saturday. It is the same knee Penix previously injured.

The left-handed Penix left Saturday's game after a 21-yard scramble with 4:36 to play in the third quarter. He finished 6-for-19 passing for 84 yards and did not return to the game. Backup Jack Tuttle finished the game for IU as the Hoosiers won 27-11.

Tuttle is expected to be the starter on Saturday for No. 10 Indiana in its game at Wisconsin.

Penix was named to the Watch List for the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award, both given to the nation’s top quarterback. He was named the Manning Award quarterback of the week after his performance against Michigan.

The 6-foot-3 Penix was having a phenomenal season. He threw for 491 yards on the road at No. 3 Ohio State, the first quarterback in 35 years to throw for more than 450 yards against the Buckeyes.

Penix threw for 320 yards in IU’s win at Michigan State and 342 yards in the Hoosiers’ win over Michigan.

Penix had played in 15 games with 12 starts in his IU career so far.

He redshirted in 2018 after suffering a season-ending ACL injury against Penn State on Oct. 20. In 2019, he started six games but suffered a season-ending right sternoclavicular joint — where the collarbone meets the neck — injury and missed the rest of the season.

The 6-foot-4 Tuttle is a highly regarded player.

He was ranked the No. 5 pro style quarterback in the country by 247Sports coming out of powerhouse Mission Hills in California.
