Some pretty mild weather up here. 60s yesterday, cooler today. I convinced my wife to get on the roof and clean the gutters while I sat on the porch drinking a beer - one of the better negotiations I've made.
Fun day today, two big tilts. Not sure about food. The girls have a birthday party and my wife has to work, so will be kind of scattered. Maybe something easy and unhealthy, like quesadillas.
-
Ya beat me by a minute!!

So football food is different here.
Tonight is stone crab and rock grouper.
Weird.

Gonna have to set that alarm

Interesting. What is the appropriate preparation for a rock grouper?
-
I'm going to pan sear it in butter, canola and garlic. Finish the sauce with parsley and lemon juice.

I need your negotiation skills then!

What I'll be watching:
Noon: Duh, OSU v. Indiana. The main way the Hoosiers win is by making some big plkays in the passing game and forcing a turnover or two - they love to blitz and they need to get to Fields.
3:30
Wisconsin v. NW: I really, really like what I've seen out of Wisconsin this year. Only two games, but the defense has left both teams in shambles. The offense has been good, albeit not consistent in how they've gone about their business. NW will put up a fight and make Wiscy earn every yard, not sure NW will score.
Cincy at UCF: The Bearcats have been wrecking teams and are knocking on the door of the playoff - USF is a tough test and there is no margin for error.
UCLA at Oregon: Oregon is probably the best PAC team - how much does that say and will Chip Kelly ever return UCLA to glory?
Iowa at PSU: Another tough test for the Nits. 0-5 would be unthinkable, but it's staring them right in the face.
Evening:
Okie State at Oklahoma: Not many stakes here nationally, but should still be a good game.
Michigan at Rutgers: Michigan really needs something good in it's life, but Rutgers ain't trying to be a doormat anymore
-
Pretty good lineup today, actually. Not so much OOC though.

Huh?You'll prolly be on Forensic Files in a year or two on how a woman mysteriously fell to her death.Well I hope you carried and held the ladder

No ladder just open the window and climb on out. I made sure to drink my beer outside in case of any mishaps

A bit weird, Clemson FSU is cancelled, as the medical staffs couldn't agree to play.
FSU hid behind their medical staff to call the game off and avoid another Seminoles beatdown. Sucks FSU folded, but good news for Harbaugh. This is Michigan's blueprint for getting out of playing Ohio State. During the week of, let a few players/coaches out and about just enough to create a bogus "contact tracing" scenario that gives their medical staffs enough leverage squawk the whole program out of facing another Buckeyes beatdown. At least Harbaugh will finally have a season without a loss to Ohio State.
-
My wife discovered an additional soccer program, how exciting! Of course I'm the one standing out here in sub-40 wind chills in the rain, watching him
-
Good schedule today. No Purdue game to stress me out, and the OSU/IU game and the Wis/NU games don't conflict with each other AND will be over before Fake Thanksgiving.
Menu today is turkey (filet for my wife due to her poultry allergy) , green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sous vide carrots, maybe even stuffing (wife hasn't decided yet). Way too much food for just us with the kids and the in-laws, but we try to make it special on the years we don't have the kids on the actual holiday.

strategically, if that was possible, wouldn't that make all the sense in the world for Northwestern to do this week? that would leave them undefeated, while making Wisconsin ineligible for the Big Ten championship game. It would almost lock Northwestern into the title game
-
Buckeyes without their kicker and long snapper
-
Fitz is a pretty classy guy. He wouldn't do that.
Barnum, on the other hand... I'm concerned.
-
Why is that a play in the playbook? No review? Deserve that turnover.
-
Cooper with a great sack, then Wilson in the slot
-
can't imagine a worse start to the game for the refs or the Huskers
-
Man Wilson in the slot is a nightmare matchup

A fun repercussion of Clemson-FSU being ppd is the Gator game moves to ABC, so more people get to see our crap defense.
Not only are we playing 0-6 Vandy, but there's fewer than 1,000 people in the stands, due to Nashville's rules. Family only, I believe.
GET EXCITED, GATORS!

Man, Justin Fields. I give props to the guy. A guaranteed top five draft pick helped get the season going and is out there not exactly playing it safe.
-
Man no clue who blew that coverage.
Believe it or not that was the linebacker Mitchell out there on that wide receiver. That’s problem number one. Problem number two he thought it was zone coverage and he just let him go behind him. ??

Yes - I saw it was Mitchell. But maybe it was supposed to be zone? Would be unusual to put a linebacker out in a corner position in straight man defense.

Yeah, lady hookers have it easy.

Man some real questions about the secondary

Not just the players - coaching leaves a lot to be desired - not even close to being prepared for some things
-
Not good situation in Lincoln. Collin Miller taken off in stretcher. I pray for that kid.
-
Indiana has made it a game again.
-
The refs blew that

The best receiver in the conference is Ty Fryfogle, as we all predicted

I think I just kick the chip shot and make it a 2 possession game there.

488 yards passing? WOW
-
I think I just kick the chip shot and make it a 2 possession game there.
Agree, though they are down their starting kicker
-
The reffing in this LSU/Arkansas game has been something else. Lots of strange calls against Arkansas until, BOOM, LSU gets a TD called back on a clean catch. LSU scores two plays later, Tigers up 27-24 with 3:59 left. Arkansas driving, misses field goal with 1:24 left. LSU kneeling. Was rooting for Arkansas and this program turnaround they're pulling.
-
Well here we go

Officials very kind to the home team so far, in Evanston.

WHEW

Indiana.
You have earned my respect

Should have Tressel balled when up by 4 TDs

There is NO WAY Wisconsin can win with all of these turnovers. NU is too good.

Wiscy has a lot of turnovers, but NW had the biggest turnover

Penn State getting their ass kicked again
-
Zebras are invested in this game. Terrible effort by them so far.
TO's aren't making things any better. Gotta clean than up.

The Bearcats are off to a rough start.

19-17 they're up by two at the half vs a 6-2 UCF Team

Miss State is bringing only 49 scholarship players to Athens tonight.
49.
And none are out due to COVID.

Players jumping the Pirate's Ship?
-
Northwestern's DL, at times, is goring Wisconsin's OL, which I'm not used to seeing against the Badgers. With NW up 14-7 late in the third, this game is being played for field position right now. When the old-timers fondly remember cloud-of-dust football from decades ago - games like Iowa beating #2(?) Michigan 9-7 in 1981 - this NW-UW edition is how I picture Big Ten football in the 80s. So much for 'twelving it.'
edit: Wow, that Wildcat blitz on 4th & 6 - has Fitz cracked the code of the Badgers OL?
double edit: three plays later, Wildcats sure get a friendly PI penalty
-
Not sure how UCF can both push and pull a ball carrier into the endzone, they damn near picked him up and carried him.I saw what should have been holding - a guy pulling his own team mate in,SMDH
-
Tired of 12ing? Have I got a game for you

Not a knock on NW, but those who were salivating all over the Badgers forgot one thing: sample size. 2 games isn't enough to form a well-rounded, accurate opinion of a team.
-
I like the NW uniforms. And I really love the textured, metal, 3-D logos ESPN/ABC is using this year.
-
That might do it.
-
19-17 they're up by two at the half vs a 6-2 UCF Team
Yeah, but a juggernaut like Cincinnati shouldn't be doing that.
-
Run the ball Fitz
-
Ridder puts the Bearcats back up.
-
Yeah, there should be 6 min on the clock right now, not 8.
And they went for 4th down? Am I missing something here?
-
That was flat out stupid. They didn't run clock and they scored no points.
-
Yeah, but a juggernaut like Cincinnati shouldn't be doing that.
So your definition of a "Rough start" is up by 2 at the half against a 6-2 team UCF team.Try to keep up if it's not asking too much. Now I get why you are out were the buses don't run
-
Run the ball Fitz
This. He should be fired for dereliction for duty at this point. Run the damn ball, dude.,

Well you're not funny and didn't connect the dots,so try to be relevent.

the Cat running game hasn't been good this afternoon
-
If NW ran the ball, there's 4-4:30 left and down 2 scores, UW have to go for it there. It's all connected.

Well your not funny and didn't connect the dots,so try to be relevant.
Grrrrr! Fire bad!

the Cat running game hasn't been good this afternoon
Doesn't appear UW is into ball control either

The novel North Dallas Forty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dallas_Forty), written by former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver and Meredith teammate Peter Gent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Gent), is a fictional account of life in the NFL during the 1960s, featuring quarterback Seth Maxwell, a character widely believed to be based on Meredith, and receiver Phil Elliot, believed to be based on Gent. Maxwell and Elliot are characterized as boozing, womanizing, aging stars in the twilight of their careers, held together by pills and alcohol. Of the story, Meredith said, "If I'd known Gent was as good as he says he was, I would have thrown to him more.

Did Today just give us our 2020 B1G Championship game?
OSU survived the turnover bug. Wisconsin did not.

UCF strikes and gets the 2. 3 point game

Did Today just give us our 2020 B1G Championship game?

Certainly looks that way. OSU has Illinois, MSU and Michigan left. NW has MSU, Illinois, and Minnesota. Both would probably have to lose twice to not make the championship game, not accounting for COVID shenanigans.
-
Not a knock on NW, but those who were salivating all over the Badgers forgot one thing: sample size. 2 games isn't enough to form a well-rounded, accurate opinion of a team.
I'll say it again, I don't think I've seen a Wisconsin OL get gashed the way Northwestern's D did today. Maybe Ohio State's future Pro Bowl pass rushers caused as many headaches, but that was more of a talent advantage than someone like Fitzgerald cracking the code.
-
TD Fickell starting to salt it away 36-25
the salting is thru 36-33

Bearcats don't go for the style points, the Tress is coming through

Cinci almost cuted the game away, ffs.

Ya didn't get that get the damn ball 1st then run it out

Joe Milton is terrible at playing QB. Pretty much everything that is vital to QB- throwing with accuracy, throwing with touch, anticipating throws, pocket awareness, reading defenses- this kid is just bad at.
Jim Harbaugh is an idiot for starting him instead of giving McNamara the nod. I hope they lose this game by 35 and don’t score a single point. They deserve it.

Two hours into watching Auburn-Tennessee, wondering how in the world this insanely talented Auburn roster keeps merely muddling along, 10-10/13-10 Vs Tennessee, until BOOM, Smoke Monday breaks open the game with an endzone pick six, for now. (Seriously, Auburn has an incredibly dynamic, high-draftable roster across the board.)

No one - not you or I, not UT fans, not his own parents - no one can figure out why they keep trotting Guarantano out there.
-
So- McNamara comes in with 4 mins left in the 2nd QTR- after Milton has been sucking it up all game- and immiedately goes 10-12 for 113 yards and 1 TD to give Michigan life in a game they were down 17-0.
Harbaugh is a moron. McNamara should've been starting. If McNamara isn't the starter rest of way- Jim just needs to quit.
-
Lmao. This secondary is tragically bad. Gemon Green is literally awful. Don Brown has to go. Just has to. Can't keep him with a defense this atrocious.
-
Nick Eubanks is awful. Why was there so much hype on this guy again? Just because he was a 4* from FL? Can't block, can't catch. What can he do?
-
what a freaking throw on 3rd and 12 hanging in the pocket against the blitz to pick up the 1st. He threw it way before All made his break and the ball was right on the money. That was incredible anticipation. McNamara is so much better than Milton it's a JOKE. How the F was Milton starting over him?
-
LMAO. That was a beautiful soft, accurate touch throw for a TD by McNamara.
He is SO much better than Milton it's a JOKE. Milton could never make that throw in a million years. I seriously think Harbaugh might be retarded.

Vols put in a FR QB down 3 scores with 7 min left. That's what you call coaching!

how much longer you think Pruitt has at UTjr?

They'll likely finish 3-7 this year. But after what happened the last time they were looking for a HC, they may hold on to him longer than they otherwise would. I don't see why they wouldn't give him at least another year, though, all kidding aside.
I'll just look forward to the daisy-orange Jon Gruden rumors again....:sign0137:

Lmaooo...the Jon Gruden rumors. Have to love that delusional. They've been thinking he was there next coach for the last 10+ years.
They are so dumb. Schiano is 10000000000x the head coach Pruitt could ever dream of being.

McNamara is A LOT better than Milton. It is not even close. This kid is so accurate, throws with touch, has anticipation and throws guys open. He is so much better than Milton, it's not even funny. HOW was Milton starting over him? What the hell does Harbaugh watch at practice?

amazing how an offense looks with a QB that can make plays. I think Michigan found their guy.... finally.

he is going through his progressions, making good, quick decisions and throwing the ball with accuracy and timing. he is sitting in the pocket and distributing, even against the blitz. He is so much better than Milton it is a joke. I honestly question what the hell Harbaugh is seeing in practice? Maybe Milton is just throwing 80 yard TD bombs all week vs Michigan's D? Wouldn't doubt it- they are awful.
-
amazing how hard Michigan's RB's are running the ball with a new QB...
-
amazing how hard Michigan's RB's are running the ball with a new QB...
easier to run the ball when you have an actual passing game lol. McNamara is making defenses pay for being aggressive and making them back off the LOS.
McNamara has just tossed his 4th TD pass in like 24 mins of football and is like 27 of 31 passing. If you cannot push the ball down the field- it's impossible to run. Milton was awful at throwing the ball- and defenses could just tee off on the run. Can't do that with McNamara back there- because he'll make you pay.
Michigan was down 17-0 with Milton. Up 35-27 now with McNamara.
-
Welp. Schiano got any magic up his sleeve?

Utah debuts Nov 21st.

I was actually talking about breaking tackles and running harder. Seems like the entire offense developed passion and started breaking tackles.

wouldn't doubt it. when you have hope, you play better. the entire team has played better with McNamara. These kids aren't dumb. They can see Milton is terrible and they aren't doing anything with him. McNamara gave them some life.
-
Vedral had that up his sleeve!
-
Vedral had that up his sleeve!
typical. Michigan had him dead to rights twice and he escapes to throw a TD.
-
that was PATHETIC. They had a QB down 3 yards before the end-zone and they let him drive through 3 tacklers for the 2 point?
This defense is A JOKE.
-
and then scores the 2 on the QB draw

Overtime!

-
The Utes and USC are all knotted up at 10
-
this game never gets to OT if McNamara was starting. If they lose, it's all on Harbaugh. McNamara saved it from being a blow out. Milton was 5 of 13 passing and Michigan was down 17-0 with 4 mins left in the 1st half when McNamara was inserted.

I can help you with #14...

Oh gee there's Mike Dwumfour blowing up our OL again like he has been all game. Maybe you shouldn't have run him off Jim?

Damn that was close

Jesus Christ, Jim Harbaugh is truly stupid.

Rutgers got a kicker?
A transfer?

A monkey is fuc*ing a football in New Brunswick, NJ.

Don Brown is awful. There is no way he can stay. He has to be asked to resign or fired.

Kickers already aren't real football players. Add to that a soccer guy who fakes an ankle injury like he's giving birth? Nah.

But jim ran his lineman off

Do people coach DBs to hurl themselves into the ball-carrier's legs? And on the 1-yard line? FFS, I know you're not big, but open your arms and TRY to stop the guy.
-
Nice job by Rs DB
-
Bad job by that DB

McNamara throws are so accurate deep they draw PI's. Hard for Milton to draw PI's when his deep balls go 30 yards over everyones head.

Except that was offensive pass interference if you just watch the replay. Received and grabbed his jersey and threw him down

doesn't matter. my point still stands. that was a very catchable ball. and the DB was face-guarding and never turned his head to play the ball- which is still illegal.

I see you're posting on MGO simultaneously

Yes it was definitely a very accurate throw.

nope. banned over there for being real about Harbaugh. that place is a cult. can't speak out against the dear leader. until last years OSU beat down and this season that is....
-
Seems like 30 runs in a row and alot of contact there
-
Yes it was definitely a very accurate throw.
yeah that's all my point was- you can get those type of PI calls if the ball is thrown accurately. Milton would've thrown that 30 yards over their heads into the stands. Uncatchable balls aren't eligible for PI calls.

1-3 and this shitshow vs Rutgers will do that to ya.

THE END - the Lord be praised

Dax Hill made a play to win the game.
Only took triple overtime to beat Rutgers. LMAO.

I had missed most of the comeback then woke up.McNamera looked good from what I've seen.Rutgers has lost some gutsy games the last 2 weeks

Totally forgot about Giles Jackson

Rutgers is the best of the worst. Well . . . maybe Michigan is . . . maybe Illinois is.

HA!From MGO
"Boom! Who would have ever thought a battle with Rutgers would be so exciting! "

In Weird Box Scores for 100, Alex ...
UGA had 409 yards passing and 8 yards rushing.
Eight. Not a misprint. And that includes a couple sacks, otherwise it would be 30 something.
-
But, see above. Sorry about the Badgers loss, today.
At the time, the Badgers looked unbeatable.
And then I predicted a loss this week, on these boards. Evanston is a house of horrors, and Northwestern has become UW's biggest rival.
Sorry about that.
-

Oh my Lord, I agree. This crap of just ducking your shoulder and diving at a guy is ridiculous. Somebody needs to make a highlight tape of Antoine Winfield Sr tackling guys and distribute it around the country.

So, does that 3 OT game signify a hard end soon to JH and UM?

...and Northwestern has become UW's biggest rival.
Sorry about that.
1-7 over 10 years will do that.

the other thing I learned from watching this game, Miss St hasn't won in Athens since 1956. I understand they don't play each other annually, but that's a long time.
-
1924 was a long time ago
-
Georgia Tech went for decades without playing either Miss team, while being in the SEC.
Our TV will be out until Monday I'm told, which is OK for today. I was/am rather miffed at missing games yesterday.
I'm told TMobile did work on our roof and I am guessing they knocked the antenna out of alignement. There was that enormous truck crane here yesterday.

Miss State has only three wins vs UGA total since then. They're 3-5 in Starkville, 0-13 in Athens.
Miss State was ranking once on those games.

I with PC would release a list of players that are out, prior to the game.
When your starting WR's are a true freshman and a senior walk on, you've got problems.
Also played with only 1 DE, but the defense looked great playing against the NU offense and 7 zebras. After re-watch, it was worse than I thought during the game. So many bad calls and missed calls. Unreal.

Those calls felt like they might not matter if Wisconsin could just shake out of it at some point, but they never did and all of a sudden they loomed a lot larger.

This is part of why the state of MS should have 1 FBS football program. It's too small to have 2 in a big-boy conference. Aside from Ole Miss in the late 50s/early 60s, neither has mattered in 90 years of the SEC.
-
To piggyback on that, Ohio State has the #1 best outcome from traditional program situations: being the only P5 program in a state that populous.
CA has 4
TX has 5 (and as many as 8 in the past)
FL has 3
PA has 2 (up to 3)
MI has 2
GA has 2
IL has 2
NC has 4
VA has 2
NY doesn't care about football
For the state of Ohio to have 1 P5 program isn't really fair. I'm not whining, but it is a major inherent advantage.
Little states like MS, SC, IA, KS, OK having two harms both programs in each. It's crazy.
OH has 11 million people. Ignoring new england, the next most-populous state with 1 P5 program is....Missouri, with 6 million ppl. Basically half.
Is anyone aware of any legislation in the past of OSU blocking other programs' attempts to rise up, in-state? If I had that kind of benefit, I'd fight tooth-and-nail to keep it.
-
The Bearcats were recently in the Big East.
Ohio has a lot more G5s than most.
-

Yes, they have many non-threat, red-headed stepchildren.
Irrelevant.
-
You axed about legislation blocking other Ohio schools from joining P5 Conferences.
No, the Bearcats joined one recently, and would like to join another.
-
Look at these 3 states:
Arkansas - 3.0
Mississippi - 2.9
Kansas - 2.9
This is what I'm talking about - what a huge difference between states of a smiliar size and their college football peaks!
Arkansas hasn't mattered much since joining the SEC, wining 3 West titles in 28 years. But the Hogs had a decent history before that and lost out on the 1969 NC by 1 point. They were good often, they were coached by Broyles and by Holtz. They mattered.
Imagine a composite program of Kansas and KSU. Still shitty, right? Yeah, usually. But sometimes, it would matter. If Bill Snyder could have had 4-5 of Kansas' best players in the late 90s, KSU probably has a NC. If their programs were one, they'd have snuck up and beaten UNL or OU a handful of times instead of almost never. The Big 8 quite possibly wouldn't have been the Big 2 for all those years.
And the Mississippi schools mash-up would have mattered plenty. Cowbells in the Grove! Deuce McAllister on MSU's great defensive team of '99. They'd matter...and if they didn't, they'd certainly, obviously matter more.
-

I guess I meant a real P5 conference. That Big East was pillaged and compromised and Cincinnati got ridden like a pony in its big-boy bowls. So did the other Big East champs in that era, aside from WV thumping Clemson and UL beating WF in the Orange.

Alex, Indiana would like to one up Georgia in the Weird Box score category.
IU had 490 yards passing and -1 rushing.
Negative One. Not a misprint. There was 2 (-17 yards) sacks on 51 passing attempts. So I guess they had 16 rushing yards on 14 carries.

Well then according to your dumb and arbitrary criteria, no. Only one P5 school. Buy according to the NCAA, there were two quite recently.
Nevertheless the state legislature did not involve themselves.

Miami has been good, historically - top 25 in wins. I'm surprised they didn't gradually rise up through the 70s-80s. They had recent history to cite back then. Maybe they just never deemed athletics a priority?

My criteria is probably arbitrary, but I'd argue the Big East only continued being treated as a BCS conference due to a contract they had signed before being plucked over.
Calling it dumb isn't accurate. It's sound and there is no general consensus on the matter.

Interesting, but they are not such a traditionally run oriented program as UGA and were playing catchup. But still interesting.
-
So, is Indiana Number Two in the B1G now or NW?
It is 2020.

So you were asking if the Ohio legislature enacted a law that prevented another school from joining a P5 Conference, not according the the NCAA criteria but instead in accordance to the criteria set forth by cfb51 poster orangeafroman?
No moron, they didn't.
-
Not pass a law, but maybe some behind-the-scenes roadblocks or something. THanks for the continued name-calling. You used to get a slap on the wrist for that here, but I guess you're on the right side to do it.
-
The other Ohio teams are free to join any P5 Conference that will have them.
-
B1G should invite Cinci.
-
B1G should invite Cinci.
I bet OSU would love that.
-
OSU would definately prevent that in a manner similar to Florida blocking FSU and Miami from joining the SEC.
That probably hurt the other Ohio teams back when the Big Ten was the only option.
Now the Pac 12 is the only P5 Conference that would be completely out of the question from a geographic standpoint.
Cincy openly petitioned to join the Big 12, and the Big 12 said "thanks, but no thanks."
The other three already have 14 teams.
Politics might be keeping BYU out of the P5, but not Cincinnati.

I had no idea Cincinnati University had an enrollment over 39,000 until the preceding posts inspired me to check if they could even be a Big Ten fit. It is not in the AAU.
