Title: Remaing undefeated teams before week 10
Post by: ohio1317 on November 06, 2020, 09:17:37 AM
Short post this week as my computer died and doing on my phone.

Teams with 1st Loss Week 9:
Oklahoma State
Rutgers
Michigan
Colorado State
Hawaii
New Mexico

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
10: BYU, Liberty/Coastal Carolina, Alabama, Notre Dame/Clemson, Cincinnati, Marshall, and the champs of the Big Ten, PAC-12, Mountain West, and MAC
-This is a drop of 1 as the Big 12 is the first to have no possible undefeated teams with the loss of Oklahoma State.

Percent of Undefeateds with 1st Loss:
Week 1: 6.5% (5 of 77)
Week 2: 18.1% (13 of 72)
Week 3: 13.6% (8 of 59)
Week 4: 33.33% (17 of 51)
Week 5: 35.3% (12 of 34)
Week 6: 22.7% (5 of 22)
Week 7: 7.5% (5 of 67) -Added 50 teams to list.
Week 8: 24.2% (15 of 62)
Week 9: 12.8% (6 of 47)

Week 9 Thoughts:
-Oklahoma State lost, but still remains Big 12's best hope at a team in CFP. They are the only team left with 1 loss. It will take lot at this point to get a team in. That helps (in the order I see most likely): the PAC-12 champ (who wil be hurt by only playing 6 games before the confernce championship), a second team from another conference, or maybe Cincinnati/BYU/Boise State.

Week 10 Thoughts:
-PAC-12 and MAC start this week so we finally have everyone playing.

BYU @ Boise State (Friday): BYU has to win out for NY6 most likely. Boise might need to as well. Very big game between 2 undefeateds.

Florida vs. Georgia: winner likely will take SEC East.

Clemson vs. Notre Dame: Winner will lead in the ACC.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 2, American: 1, Big Ten: 5, Big 12: 0, Conference USA: 1, MAC: 12, Mountain West: 4, PAC-12: 12, SEC: 1, Sun Belt: 1, independents: 2, total: 41

You know, I just thought of something.

You have "Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:

10: BYU,...and the champs of the Big Ten, PAC-12, Mountain West, and MAC."

With the Covid tie-breakers, isn't this not necessarily true?

I believe in the scenario where both Purdue and Wisconsin go undefeated, one goes to the championship game, while the other does not, so you could have two undefeateds coming out of the Big Ten.

The Pac 12 is having an outstanding season.

All the way to week 10 with a league wide undefeated record.

I bet THAT has never happened before.

A large portion of this list just got wiped out.
