It's a brisk 30 degrees outside in Columbus. I imagine there is frost on the car for the first time this year, though I haven't gone out to look yet. It feels nice drinking some coffee in silence before the wife and kids all wake up and make endless amounts of noise. They moved trick or treat from Thursday to today, which is nice because now my wife can take them while I
watch football pass out candy.
Probably not cooking much today. Yesterday I made carnitas, beans, and rice pudding. I had a 9 pound pork shoulder, so I used about half for the carnitas then just roasted the other half in the oven in salt and brown sugar. What I'm saying is that I have a lot of pork in the fridge. I may still run to the store grab a few ingredients to make a couple sauces or salsas. I have a few empty squeeze bottles that could be filled with something delicious.
Anyways...football
Noon
MSU at Michigan, FOX - Michigan fans watching Maryland pile up 675 yards against Minny's defense are suddenly wondering if the offense actually made a stride or not. Sparty just wants to rub the stink off after losing to Rutgers. Tough to see MSU scoring in this game, but they should be a sterner test on defense.
Purdue at Illinois, BTN - Boilermakers got a nice win and I think they get their coach back, if not Rondale Moore. But they aren't good enough to just roll out and beat a team - Illini didn't show much last week but they did show a little up front on defense. If they can get after the quarterback we might get a game here.
3:30
Indiana at Rutgers, BTN - *GAME OF THE WEEK* the mighty first place tilt here is the star of the show. Both teams got wins last week on smoke and mirrors. Indiana has hopes of being a legit good team - they need to play like it today.
Northwestern at Iowa, ESPN - Northwestern pasted Maryland. Is Northwestern actually good this year? They always play tough defense, but if they can score points against Iowa, then the West is on notice. Iowa in trouble if they start the league 0-2.
7:30, OSU at PSU, ABC - PSU down a lot of guys and already in a 0-1 hole. They are gonna come out mad and ready to fight. OSU looked a little passive last week and needs to show they can punch back.
Other games of note
BC at Clemson, noon, ABC - Trevor Lawrence has the rona, so Clemson going with another five star QB
Memphis at Cincinnati, noon, ESPN - Bearcats want playoffs
Texas at Okie St, 4 pm, FOX - The wheels started coming off the Longhorn recruiting this week, Okie State is undefeated and trying to sneak in the playoffs
Oklahoma at Texas Tech, 8 pm, FOX - Points should be scored
The SEC looks pretty dead this week, which means someone is going to get up a bite a good team. Not sure who it is though.
-
disappointed Husker fan here - no football
Breakfast at the Fire Station this morning, it's their biggest fundraiser of the year
then back to normal, frosted schooners of beer before heading to the golf course.
Weather straightening out after the cold and snow last week. Nearly 60 degrees with a 25 mph breeze.
promise of a free brat after the round when you buy a beer upstairs - football watching. I'll miss the early games, but watch the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes.

Yeah, I just saw that. He was really good.

Yeah, I just saw that. He was really good.
Yeah. Loved him on Jeopardy.

He did his thing, retired about 20 years ago, when he was still making movies, and I don't think we heard from him since.
RIP

Classic!!
-
At least he lived long enough to see his iconic character undergo a sex change operation.
-
I can only hope that the movie Zardoz (1974) manages to show up on TV. One of the greatest bad movies of all time. I highly recommend it especially while enjoying spirits.
Connery is the main character but is overshadowed by the bizarre storyline.

Connery in Zardoz.

Reported Illini QB and TE out today due to COVID?
Illinois got infected by Wisconsin and if they play today I guarantee Purdue is next, even with those players out.

No truth to that. There were no positives on Friday. UW had positives on Sunday. Maybe Illinois gave it to Wisconsin.
-
Illinois’ program has not made any announcement regarding its testing, but the typical incubation period for the novel coronavirus means it is possible.
Illinois coach Lovie Smith told reporters Wednesday that his team had no new cases of COVID-19 since playing UW at Camp Randall Stadium (https://madison.com/wsj/sports/college/football/badgers-coach-paul-chryst-takes-heat-for-mask-use-during-illinois-game/article_50441712-7a76-5cfb-a5f8-2ccde7ccf312.html).
-
Also, I hate to type this, but I'm going to anyway.
Wisconsin and Purdue will not be playing next week. You heard it here first. Still more positive tests rolling in - up to 23 now, including 10 staff.
-
Come on. Let's not pretend contact tracking is that easy.
-
Illinois starting quarterback Brandon Peters will miss Saturday’s game against Purdue after contracting COVID-19, the team announced about an hour before kickoff.
Redshirt freshman tight end Griffin Moore will also miss the game after a positive test and “several” players are out due to contact tracing protocol. Illinois listed 14 players as out for the game against the Boilermakers.
-
No truth to that. There were no positives on Friday. UW had positives on Sunday. Maybe Illinois gave it to Wisconsin.
There's no proof as of yet, and may never be. But let's just say circumstantial evidence is strong.
-
The incubation period is 5-7 days. Illinois MIGHT have infected players and coaches on the field, right now.
-
Sparty offense looking moribund already.
-
Sigh. Another empty possession after a turnover for WVU. That’s become too common this year.
-
The incubation period is 5-7 days. Illinois MIGHT have infected players and coaches on the field, right now.
Yep. If Purdue doesn't see a rash of cases next week, I'll be surprised.
-
Let's see how many consecutive 3 and outs we can get - count is 2
-
First down Sparty on the ad libbed shovel pass
-
Holy hell Rocky - hell of a throw
-
BC easy TD march.
-
Sparty!
-
UGA doing a Wisconsin imitation, which is a good thing.
-
Walked the dog, took a shower, completed our ballots (dropping off today), and now watching Purdue.
Have lunch with the in-laws at a brewery (patio), which means that for the second week in a row I have something scheduled that will result in leaving the house prior to the end of the game. Depending on the score I'll listen to the end in the car via internet radio on the way to lunch (lopsided score), or wait and catch the finish via DVR when I get back (close game).
No cooking today. Ordering pizza for dinner in case we're getting a bunch of trick-or-treaters.
Purdue up 7-0 and looking like they've got zero trouble moving the ball on offense today.

David Bell is incredible.
Better pure WR than Rondale.

Milton dealing for Michigan
-
Every throw is at Michigan CB Gemon Green
-
Milton dealing for Michigan
His arm is special.
These young kids have serious burst. AJ Henning and Blake Corum’s acceleration are eye opening. Need to get these guys the ball more.
Gemon Green is terrible btw. Don Brown has to go. His defenses are played out.
-
Every throw is at Michigan CB Gemon Green
He’s awful. I would too.
This is why Ambry Thomas’ opt out is so killer.
-
Awful series right here. Milton threw that ball on 3rd down way too hard.
-
Milton dealing for Michigan
The pocket presence is strong with this one
-
That was a ticky tack bullshit call. That’s two now vs the CB’s that were highly questionable.
-
The rare fake cadence call on the defense
-
These flags on the CB’s are a joke. Literally every other pass attempt the refs are calling defensive holds.
-
Pass interference is Sparty's biggest offense
-
Pass interference is Sparty's biggest offense
Yeah seems like every time Michigan gets them to 3rd down a penalty gives them a 1st down.
-
Clemson down 14-7 to BC.
Don’t feel too bad- they are starting a 5* QB and the #2 player in 2020 in DJ Ugilelie (6’4, 230).
-
Wtf is wrong with Michigan defense today? They just must love committing penalties on 3rd down.
-
About time Sparty got a penalty.
-
Man do I hate the blind side block rule
-
Seems very Sparty to be winning on the outside and then not even try to pass
-
Man do I hate the blind side block rule
Trying to make the game more safe and all.
-
Sparty just completely blitzing the run every play. It’s getting annoying.
-
This is an ugly ass game and I’m already getting tired of watching it.
-
Purdue defense not looking great, but with a blindside block stalling a drive, and an interception and now fumble recovery, Illinois has now been in the red zone without points 3 times.
Purdue up 14-0 and just got the ball.
-
Michigan’s CB’s absolutely suck. Gray and Green are terrible.
-
Michigan corners getting beat like a drum is not what I expected
-
Michigan corners getting beat like a drum is not what I expected
Gray and Green suck. OSU WR’s going to eat them alive.
-
Don Brown needs to go. His defense sucks and is so played out and predictable.
-
They need to hit throws down the field to back the Michigan state defense off. Stop trying to run it up the middle on 1st down with the RBs.
-
Etienne bad fumble, bc runs it back. 21-7
-
Horvath fumble, ball back to Illinois.
Now injury to Karlaftis. Couldn't really tell if he was grabbing knee or hammy.
-
TD Illini.
14-7 Boilers.
-
Pretty simple:
Use tempo on offense and start throwing the ball DOWN THE FIELD. Sparty is cramming the box- stop trying to run it up the gut for 0 or 1 yards every first down. Run tempo and throw the ball past the friggin sticks.
On defense- quit with all the man to man bullshit- play zone and keep safeties back- your corners suck and can’t play man to man- ADJUST.
-
Erick All has butterfingers. Two drops today he should’ve had. One was a little behind him but he should’ve had it. Last one perfect throw he just dropped.
-
WTF was that?
You take Milton out on 2nd and 3rd down? To run that shit? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?
-
Don't understand going wildcat there when you already have a mobile quarterback and you are playing well
-
Don't understand going wildcat there when you already have a mobile quarterback and you are playing well
Milton is dealing. And he’s 6’5 and can run. And you take him out on 2nd AND 3rd down for that shit!
Harbaugh is retarded.
-
Cam McGrone down now. GREAT.
-
WTF was that?
You take Milton out on 2nd and 3rd down? To run that shit? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?
Weird play calling across the board from Michigan. Every time it seems the Wolverine's offense is about to breakthrough either the ball is taken out of the hands of a player with momentum or something strange and uncalled for is forced, like the wildcat inside the five despite Milton shouldering the drive.
-
The blindside block rule is absolutely ridiculous. It just punishes blocking with no benefit to safety

Last week was false hope. This coaching staff is a god damn joke. Harbaugh is a straight up retard and Don Brown is a past his prime DC who plays man to man across the board and blitzes every single play. When he’s got a huge talent advantage over an inferior opponent his defenses feast. When they don’t have that huge talent advantage they get blown apart.
-
Sparty came in saying we just give up if we get in 2nd and 3rd or long
-
Holy hell BC just scored again
-
Giles Jackson is ridiculous. WOW.
-
Dueling FGs and Purdue goes to the half up 17-10. Will receive 2nd half kickoff.
Illini lead in total yards but the aforementioned 3 red zone trips with zero points hurt them. Purdue defense looking like utter trash.
Same for the Illini defense. Aidan O'Connell is 13-14 at the half for 186 yards, so maybe that Wisconsin QB performance wasn't as good as it looked last week, judging by the competition level?
Purdue really needs to step it up on defense.
-
These refs suck. Flags every other play.
-
Horvath fumble, ball back to Illinois.
Now injury to Karlaftis. Couldn't really tell if he was grabbing knee or hammy.
Worst call I've seen in a long time. Can't believe they didn't overturn that.
Horvath was clearly down.
-
Nico Collins would’ve had that pass Ronnie Bell just missed.
These CBS are terrible.
With Collins and Ambry Thomas this is a much better team.
-
Another Horvath fumble, this time on the goal line. Horrible break for the Boilers on a drive that was HUMMING.
Going to review, but I think that's just to determine if it's Illini backed WAY up by the goal line or whether it's a touchback, as there's no doubt it was a fumble [this time].
-
Sparty’ OTs have largely neutralize the pass rush from Michigan’s DEs. Michigan CBs not looking good either. Michigan’s OL not getting it done; the running game is anemic. Its anyones game at this point.
-
Purdue gets the ball back on a high-throw tip interception. Penalty on the INT return so instead of 1st and goal from the 2 it's outside the 20.
But a good throw to Sparks and now it's 1st and goal on the 2...
-
TD David Bell!
Purdue almost Purdue'd this scoring opportunity again, but managed a bit of a broken play on 3rd down and Bell pulls down a great catch in the back of the end zone.
24-10 Boilers.
-
Bell makes it look easy. Excellent catch in the back of the endzone
-
Seems like 2nd down is UMs money down.
Not much on 1st, then they've picked it up a ton on 2nd down, but if they don't, seems like MSU has them on 3rd down.
-
Purdue gives up a bunch of yards but gets a big 4th down stop as Illinois was approaching the red zone. Will take over just outside their own 20.
-
Stupid, stupid, stupid MSU. You get them in 3rd and 11, and taunt? Get the F back in your huddle.
Went from 3rd and 11 outside of FG range to 1st and 10 inside the 30
-
Why do they insist on running up the middle on 1st down when MSU brings more guys to play the run than Michigan can block??
How about you try other plays?
-
Stupid, stupid, stupid MSU. You get them in 3rd and 11, and taunt? Get the F back in your huddle.
Went from 3rd and 11 outside of FG range to 1st and 10 inside the 30
7 point mistake
-
HELL of a catch by Bell. Went up, highpointed, got it off the back of the defender, AS he was being interfered with.
As if we didn't already know it, this kid is GOOD.
-
That throw to set up the first and goal by Milton was ridiculous. Wow.
Now if they’d only let Milton throw the ball deep on some go routes or posts to back MSU the F off.
-
Just keep throwing it. Michigan's front seven is nasty, but this might be their worst secondary since the RR years. It's certainly their worst pair of corners.
-
Just keep throwing it. Michigan's front seven is nasty, but this might be their worst secondary since the RR years. It's certainly their worst pair of corners.
The corners are god awful. Worst I’ve seen at Michigan in a very long time.
The crushing blow of Ambry Thomas‘ opt out cannot be overstated.
-
Purdue gets aggressive with 4th and goal from the 1 and doesn't make it.
But on Illini possession the IL QB gets HAMMERED on an option play, coughs it up, and Purdue recovers the fumble in the end zone for a TD.
31-10 Boilers. This one is rapidly approaching getting out of range for an Illini team on their 4th string QB.
-
Michigan’s freshmen are saving the O’s ass.
-
I think this might be the worst game of Harbaugh’s career at Michigan. Even if they win.
-
Milton needs to learn how to harness his arm. Dude has one of the strongest arms I’ve ever seen from a Michigan QB but he tries to throw everything 150 mph.
-
WVU waxing K State in Morgantown. 34-10.
-
This is the game that has convinced me more than ever that Harbaugh and Don Brown have to go.
-
Vincent Gray is literally awful.
-
Hanging onto Ricky White's commitment after he blew up from a low 3 star to a decently high 4* is looking like the only good thing Dantonio's staff did last year.
-
You have to be kidding me. That is a ticky tack bullshit and you call that defensive holding?
-
These CBs are negating UMs entire pass rush, because you can just throw it up, and the only way they aren't getting burnt is by holding
-
Great job, Boilers. Let Illinois march down the field [yet again] and score to bring it to 31-17, and then on the ensuing drive throw the hell out of the ball with tons of incomplete passes so you don't burn clock.
Maybe the 13-yard sack on 3rd and 10 was better than an incomplete pass, because at least you burned some clock?
Purdue hasn't shown an ability to stop Illinois' offense all game, but got lucky with Illinois shooting themselves in the foot once and then finding their way to 4 turnovers. We might need a 5th turnover to keep this from becoming a game.
-
Rocky Lombardi sucks and he’s carving Michigan up. Should tell you how awful this defense has been playing.
10/24 for 225 yards. This dude is completing like 42% of his passes for 22.5 yards a completion.
-
Gemon Green sucks. That was an easy pick for a legit CB. Kid is trash.
-

He's always had a freakishly strong, but super inaccurate arm.
You can't rely on him dinking and dunking your way down the field, completing 75% of his passes. You've got to count on him hitting a few big plays.
-
Gemon Green sucks. That was an easy pick for a legit CB. Kid is trash.
I mean, the CBS are awful, but on replay, it looks like his knee hit Nailor's helmet. I thought he dove, but it looked like he fell, and tripping messed him up.
Both coaches have now had a dropped pick save them from a stupid playcall.
-
Michigan’s CB’s absolutely suck. Gray and Green are terrible.
What's the story here? Gray and Gemon Green are starting because of TWO unexpected losses? Ambry T and another opted out? This game, largely defined by MSU's surprising success firing the ball downfield and extending the drive, has so far come at the expense of Michigan's overwhelmed CBs.
-
They deserved to miss for kicking there
-

Gray started last year. He was not this bad. He’s regressed.
-
Hmmm, wonder if we'll be seeing this offseason if Michigan can win the press conference for the fourth hire in a row.
On another topic, Harbs hasn't hit expectations, but has made Michigan a top-4 team in the conference, which it wasn't for nearly a decade, with a couple of teams that were a game away from something more special. Do we think his staff or Tucker's will be more disappointing relative to expectations when it's all said and done?
-

Harbs is in year 6 and has way more talent on his roster than Mel Tucker does. And he’s playing at home.
-
Hat tip for Michigan for breaking out a creative Wing-T-looking play call and then completely blowing the blocking. Solid call and mess of an outcome.
-
That play on 3rd down from Milton was insane. They need to roll him out and throw every once in awhile.
-
Harbs is in year 6 and has way more talent on his roster than Mel Tucker does. And he’s playing at home.
"When it's all said and done" means long term. Not today.
Basically, the Harbs era has been a certain kind of disappointing. Will the Tucker era be more or less so when taking into account different expectations is the question.
-
So MSU DBs can hang all over Michigan’s WRs with no flags, but Michigan DBs even sneeze near MSU WRs and it’s a flag. Makes sense.
-
Don't look now but the Bearcats want in the playoffs
-
They deserved to miss for kicking there
I can’t believe that. Tucker is channeling his inner Tressel.
-
I can’t believe that. Tucker is channeling his inner Tressel.
I heard Tressel once kneeled out the clock on the 1 down three just to be a gentleman.

Why do I waste my Saturdays watching this crap team? FU Jim.

It's 2020. It's gonna happen.
-
I might turn the Michigan feed on and mute the tv to hear a less homer UM announcer. Joel Klatt is just the worst.
-

I just realized he would be Michigan's top choice if they fire Jim, which makes me cackle.

I guess that's your makeup call?

What the Heck did the ref see there?
-

Insider rumors last year when he turned down MSU was that it's OSU or ND or bust
-
Whoot sparty!
-
What the Heck did the ref see there?
They've had a rough day. They've been super inconsistent on a bunch of stuff
-
Fire Harbaugh. Tonight.
-
After the refs were making it hard on Michigan, now they're helping out.
Update: Welp.
-
I might turn the Michigan feed on and mute the tv to hear a less homer UM announcer. Joel Klatt is just the worst.
Agreed!
-
You know if things fall right Rutgers could be alone in first place tonight
-
Agreed!
He is the main reason I'm ticked about the Big Ten-FOX deal. I would rather listen to Pam Ward than him
-
Lol at the Spartan trying to dive off the field
-
That run play was one of those that seemed like a good idea. But it wasn't.
-
Why is MSU running offense?
-
Love these smoke and mirror onside.
-
https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/1322624011231203328?s=19
-
Lol well this got weird
-
Touchdownnnnnnnn Rutgers!!!
-
Full strength meaning no one was out from the virus or injury, at home, ideal weather, and Michigan is 29 points short of covering the spread against a rival that just lost to Rutgers.
-
You gotta be kidding me on this Auburn touchback - Tigers roster loaded with playmakers like Seth Williams, Pugh, and Bigsby isn't enough to overcome its bad luck:
EDIT: LSU throws an INT return on next drive. Auburn TD a few plays later.

-
You know if things fall right Rutgers could be alone in first place tonight
2020 can go 2020 itself.
-
The RU/IU winner will move to 2-0 and first place in the B1G-E. If that isn't weird enough, it gets even more strange:
If Penn State beats Ohio State then:
- The IU/RU winner will be 2-0 and alone in first place and
- The other six teams in the division will all be tied at 1-1
It gets even more strange:
Based on the tiebreakers the order would be:
- 2-0 IU/RU winner
- 1-1 IU/RU loser (1-0 H2H with the other five either way because IU beat PSU and RU beat MSU)
- 1-1 UMD (0-0 H2H with the other five)
- 1-1 MSU (1-1 H2H with the other five)
- 1-1 PSU (1-1 H2H with the other five)
- 1-1 M (0-1 H2H with the other five)
- 1-1 tOSU (0-1 H2H with the other five)
I'm not exactly sure what the tiebreakers between UMD/MSU/PSU and the IU/RU loser and between tOSU/M would be but the order of those groups is right.
Only the IU/RU winner and Maryland would control their own destiny (UMD because they haven't played a B1G-E opponent yet).
-
well its clear there is a #14 spell on this season
so please vote the Gophers in last place
hey first their defense deserves it but if there is any luck there we could use it
-
I love the Tiger Bowl, every single year. Gus with his home field voodoo is killing it so far. Need Marie Laveau to shake a chicken foot at this point.
-
I’d be cool with firing Harbaugh and making Don Brown interim HC.
-
I'm sitting on my porch watching trick or treaters but it looks like NW has pulled ahead of Iowa
-
I love the Tiger Bowl, every single year. Gus with his home field voodoo is killing it so far. Need Marie Laveau to shake a chicken foot at this point.
Every year the War Eagle fan base demands Gus's firing about once a month during the season, then Auburn goes and beats Alabama about once every two years and it's crickets during the off season. Crushing a defending national champion LSU will mostly wash away the bad taste still lingering after their loss to South Carolina.
Up 42-3 in the 3rd, this is the Auburn achieving their potential against LSU. On offense the coaches are maximizing quite an array of specialized playmakers - durable Tank Bigsby, using 300lb Pegues as a bulldozing receiver, and Stove and Seth Williams are great downfield weapons. Of course it helps Nix is not forcing anything. On defense, the gameplan to shut down LSU's run game gave a young DL focus and later opened up the pass rush against a young QB who holds onto the ball too long.
Gus is completely out coaching Orgeron.

HairBall 1-6 at home vs. MSU and OSU. 29-0 against everyone else. Something has to change up there, it's way to Cooper~esk.

Ryan Day will finish him. Gonna be hard to keep his job when Ohio State rapes Michigan to the tune of like 70-24.
It’s gonna be a blood bath.

The Cooper comp sorta fits, but Cooper often had the better team. Jim did like ... once?
Anywho, Michigan is in an interesting spot. The buyout is bad short term, but it's a sunk cost this year. It would make next year kinda a mess, but the deal is done after next year, which ain't bad.
If he's gone, losing Brown or Gattis is a given unless wants a demotion, and losing both is probable. Wonder who they go to if Fickel says no.
-

Lmao. Why you think I said OSU would drop 70? Those CBs couldn’t cover MSU WRs and some ducks thrown by Rocky Lombardi.
Justin Fields and those OSU 1st round WRs will hang at least 70. Maybe even more.

That would be interesting.
I mean. It seems like a mess of jobs shouldn't open, but some will because some crazy boosters will foot the bill.
I don't know what to make of Harbs. He needs to beat PSU and have UW canceled to avoid 4-3/4-4. And if they don't can him, he goes into the last year of the deal because he ain't getting extended in the climate and with that record. Just a weird, weird deal.
-
Wow. The Auburn score. Just saw. It certainly isn’t 2019 for LSU anymore.
-
Windiana about to go 2-0
-
TCU was up 30-0 on Baylor at one point. It’s now 33-23 with over 10 minutes to play.

Northwestern goes to 2-0. Iowa 0-2

Texas forcing TOs is making up for Ehlinger's awful 15/29 140yds passing Vs Ok State. Longhorns only down 5 and driving late in 4th.
EDIT: Texas takes lead on Ehlinger weathering blitz and finding Smith in endzone. 2PT good - Longhorns up 34-31 with 4 left.

Just scored 34-31 Texas
-
Texas converts a 4th and 7 for a TD. Now up 34-31 with 4:27 to go.
The drive was kept alive when Ok St roughed the punter on a 4th and 22.

Well that's a good start

Overtime in Stillwater

Ok we'll take that

Cancel the season. Ohio State is so much better than everyone else it’s not even funny.

Which 2 good SEC teams are going to lose more than twice?
-
Florida is down 15 players vs Mizzou, settled for 2 FGs so far. 6-0
Both starting safeties and (woeful) CB Wilson are all out, so if Mizzou can't pass on us, something's amiss. It's straight up kids back there.
Old-timey blue helmets look okay. I prefer the classic Gators look, though.
-

Season saving win for Texas, until of course they crap the bed against West Virginia or Kansas St. The headline for Texas isn't pulling off the "upset" Vs overrated OK State - it's getting out of their own way and finishing off a game on their terms.
-
I knew LSU might fall off a cliff, but to Auburn? Bo Nix is good enough to carry a high school team, but he's not bonified doing as much in the SEC.
-
PSU gets a gift roughing call that avoided a 3 and out, but had a good drive after that and get a field goal. 14-3
-
Which 2 good SEC teams are going to lose more than twice?
Everyone in the east will likely have 2 losses. TAMU could end with 1, but they ain't exactly a juggernaut.

OSU rushing game looking a lot more energetic

If they both win out, A&M would obviously be ranked higher, due to SOS.

Meh maybe. They got run over by Alabama so another matchup with them is entirely unattractive.
-
Yeesh Bucks miss a bunny field goal
-
So after this week, Purdue, Northwestern and IU will be 2-0. While Iowa, Penn State (assuming), and Minnesota will be 0-2.
Who expected that?
-
Nice 89 yard drive for the Bucks. 21-3
-
Wow, just learned that Alabama's Davonte Smith is 1 TD catch away from tying for the SEC career lead, with Florida's Chris Doering and Bama's Amari Cooper.
Has Smith ever been the clear-cut #1 WR for the Tide? 30 TD catches is a lot.
UPDATE: He's now tied, with over 200 yards and 4 TD vs the Cowbells.
-
Matching touchdowns. 28-13 Buckeyes

Olave visually followed that home, very good eye-hand coordination

The difference in the game was turnovers. FoSu had 4, Texas had 0.
FoSu had 530 total yards, Texas had 287.
EDIT: Texas was superior on special teams too.

Franklin is the most gracious losing head coach in the history of American football.
-
UGA reminds me of last year, good D and very limp O. Very.
They won't keep up with Florida I suspect, ends up something like 34-24.
UGA D also suffered some critical injuries, including to Lecounte having a motorcycle accident after the game.
-
Dayem Jahan Dotson had 2 nice one handed grabs b2b highlight reel stuff.O'Connell from Purdue went 29-35 for 376yds - keep that up and he'd be in the Heisman talk! That Taylor(Illinois) from what I've seen is a decent dual threat QB threw 2 picks and was 17-29 for 372 but he certainly made things happen. If I have time today might watch condensed game clips on YT

There's a first time for everything. That's been a major weakness for our team since... well, 2010?
Horns forced a couple of those turnovers, and OkState shot itself in the foot a couple of times too. Winning is always better than losing, but this Texas team just isn't very good.
Ossai on the Texas D is a beast though. Pretty much any time something bad happened in OkState's offensive backfield, it was Ossai causing it.
-
The Clemson close call is some news, but the win won't hurt them if they are undefeated of course.
Michigan one would think is out, and Penn State. Ohio State looks a lot like Ohio State. I wish we had their QB.
Can Wisconsin hang with OSU?
The Big 12 may be eliminated from the playoff now. The season is going reasonably well with respect to COVID I think. Not perfect, but also not an immediate disaster.
The conferences showed some flexibility in getting this thing moving. I was just idly wondering if the Pac 12 was playing at all. I checked, they are. huh.
UNC is not as good as some expected, I think they got ranked like #6 at one point, in part because the B1G had not started, but still.
Auburn surprised me, but they often are unpredictable. LSU looks to be borderline bad, not mediocre.
-
LSU lost so much, both players and coaches, I didn't expect them to be very good. Just too much fresh blood all at once.

Can Wisconsin play? Get that done first.
The Big 12 is all but done, though not 100 percent. OkSU is unlikely to run the table, but you ain't eliminated until it's final. Many moons ago, only one Big 10 team escaped September without a loss (and that team only climbed to No. 19). The conference was all but written off. That season produced the first and last national champion from the conference in more than 15 years.

Doubtful. The running game against Illinois didn't look the same. The passing game looked great, but as Purdue v Illinois showed, maybe that's not very hard.

We're making it through with COVID. There will still be games canceled / postponed, but it looks like the season won't be completely blown up.
-
The top three teams preseason to me look like the real top three teams. Alabama had some defensive issues that may have been addressed. Clemson has a QB issue due to COVID. Ohio State may not have any issues.

#1 Clemson at #4 Notre Dame next week

Clemson QB is apparently out for that.

12 players. 10 staff.

If the Badgers have to cancel their game against Purdue, that makes two. One more cancelation and they would be ineligible for the B1GCG (unless there are LOTS of other cancelations).
That could seriously impact tOSU's CFP hopes in a number of ways.
- If the Buckeyes take a loss and need SoS help, not facing Wisconsin would hurt because nobody else is as highly ranked.
- If the Buckeyes are undefeated and up against undefeated Clemson and BAMA for seeds, the #1 would be very valuable because the other two get each other while the #1 gets a much weaker Semi-final opponent (at least in theory).
-
If they can't play Purdue, I'd say just shut it down.
Make a ring that says 1-0 on one side, and "2020 can kiss my ass" on the other.

Ryan Day will finish him. Gonna be hard to keep his job when Ohio State rapes Michigan to the tune of like 70-24.
It’s gonna be a blood bath.
100 is right answer "Afterwards in a meeting with his team, Day said “The Big Ten better have a mercy rule because we’re going to hang 100 on them”.

150 players total?
no wonder Frost said he was confident his program would get through this

Different protocol for players.
Chryst and the other staff can return November 4 with no symptoms and a negative swab. Players are 21 days, due to that cardiology thing.

seems reasonable
coaches cardiology issues aren't important, or maybe it's just tougher for coaches to sue the conference since they are under contract

I personally don't know how coaches don't regularly have heart attacks with all the emotional stress, but their cardiac issues aren't important in the same way that they are for an athlete...
Most coaches don't really exercise their heart much... Although I think if he gets a positive test Brian Kelly might need a 21-day layoff, because his heart must REALLY be pumping to turn him purple so often...

...and I wish "we" (OSU) had LSU's quarterback last year. Don't take my comment out of context, I love Haskins and Fields, but Joe had a jaw dropping year in an era of jaw dropping QB's. #HelmetFootballProblems
If Wisconsin can keep all their bodies on the field they can play with anyone.

the Boomer Sooners aren't getting in
maybe Notre Dame with a single loss to Clemson

Yes they have

Correct. Burrow was pretty average his junior year, so the Buckeyes made the right call to go with Haskins for that year. Haskins did even better than expected and went pro, while Joe improved a lot between his junior and senior years. The Buckeyes got Fields anyways, so I think it worked out well for all parties.
-
Burrow broke his thumb so he didn't see hardly and snaps. In 2016 he was 22-28 with a 169 QB rating

LoL.
It won't be OU this year.

Nah. That's Minnesota stuff.
FoSu stuff too.
When the AFCA announced that they would consider applications for pre-1950 MNCs, only one school applied--FoSu (known back in the day as FOAMC) for the 1945 season.
So now there is this in the east end zone at T. Boone Pickens Stadium (a.k.a. "Boone's Farm"):

That QB last year was unworldly.
No excuses for LSU. When has a defending national champion ever looked this rubbish-y? 89th in total defense. 73rd in scoring defense. This despite paying Bo butthole Pelini OVER TWO MILLION! My take on this season is that Orgeron has never been a top coach, especially when it comes to game planning and developing talent. Mike Leach and Gus Malzahn have both coached circles around Orgeron. Last year’s success was the dramatic aligning of a number factors – NFL experience, an overpowering roster, and especially an all-timer of a season from the QB. Now it’s a matter of how much patience the LSU is willing to grant Orgeron. If things are better next year, expect Orgeron to be back to his coaching equilibrium, similar to the 2017 season where deficient in-game coaching led to a loss Vs Troy before sheer roster talent followed up with subsequent wins over #21 Florida and #10 Auburn.
-
Perhaps but that NC buys him at least 3 years.Remember Richt @ Georia and Cooper @ tOSU never got over that hump. And they had sustained recruitng/rebuilding coups for over decade. But he could have landed in the right place at the right time also.

2011 Auburn was 70th or worse in points scored and allowed per game.
LSU is odd. Ed has alternatively been very good and very bad hiring coordinators. He lost like 30 players, many who were super good. They should play like they're more talented. I like Ed in a general sense, though I doubt he'll have LSU at the place it wants to be. For his sake, I hope he has a solid run (like Harbs Michigan) the rest of the way, then ends up a DL coach or head coach at a small Louisiana school to while away his days.
-
LSU may have been in a statistically unlikely situation where it all came together for one year for them, but in normal times they will be a 9-4 or 10-3 kind of program.
They usually recruit well enough to have depth and sustain decent teams, usually.
