Title: Jimbo Fisher Departure
Post by: Hawkinole on December 05, 2017, 01:25:32 AM
Very pleased to see Fisher is leaving FSU.

I thought he completely mismanaged the Jamies Winston controversy by putting a hand on the scale. He didn't need to do that. (1) He is not a fact finder in the investigation, (2) what he said contradicted an FSU student's complaint, (3) Winston had a witness -- he didn't need Fisher meddling. Reminded me of Alford's support of Pierre Pierce, who later pulled a knife on his girlfriend. Coaches need to keep their thumb off the scale, as hard as it may be, and let other processes determine what leads to discipline.

I can't understand half of what he says, as he mumbles, and speaks in a way intended for others to not understand. Here is an example. Jimbo Mumbling in a foreign language (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtkbgKwjnt8)

Something seems a little different about this relative to most coaching hires/changes.

My personal belief is that Jimbo overplayed his hand at FSU.  I don't think he really wanted to leave.  He was going through the same song and dance that had worked before, but seemingly FSU got tired of it.

Now I'm not saying FSU forced him out - I'm only saying that FSU had created an environment where Jimbo was going to have eat just a morsel of crow in order to stay.  He was going to have to reel his bluff back in.  I don't think this played out how Jimbo had in mind.

So rather than show his hand and humbly work things out with FSU, he bolted.  He must have figured, hell look at all this money, look at this great stadium at A&M, and these people love me.

But I really don't think his heart guided this move.  So he'll either have to make peace with it and get happy in Texas, or A&M just created another Aggie joke.

something i read about the 'saban' factor makes a lot of sense... nothing new here, just throwing it out there:

the SEC is preparing for what they believe is Saban's last 3~5 years... loading up on talent and getting the coaches/schemes in place while they wait.

if this is the case, aTm made a smart move.  so did UF and by extension MSU, as well as Arky and UGA w/Smart (2 years ago now, so they kinda lucked into it)... UTk has yet to have been decided, and there may be trickle down next season into UK, and maybe even LSU (though i think the bayou has the best possible person in place there).

yup... i think the SEC is shifting due to one man.  and, i don't think that aTm did poorly, but.... i think jimbo is a violation waiting to happen.

I go back to the way he handled Winston. It wasn't a violation. I think he had no idea the morality code he was violating because he isn't thinking deeply. Here is my example of Steve Alford in a nutshell who did the same stupid thing: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2013/04/11/ucla-steve-alford-sexual-assault-pierce-iowa-2002/2074995/ (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2013/04/11/ucla-steve-alford-sexual-assault-pierce-iowa-2002/2074995/)
Alford was unpopular at Iowa for more reasons than this, but this really was a big part of his decline.  I was shocked Jimbo Fisher wasn't called out for it at FSU.
Fisher got a lot more $ at A & M than at FSU. Fisher was divorced while at FSU. I don't know where his ex-wife and children will be. That's another issue one has to wrestle with.
Hopefully Willie Taggart will be an improvement. I liked Bobby Bowden so much more than Fisher.

An FSU fan is 'happy' that their MNC winning coach left for allegedly greener pastures.

Jimbo left for green, but I don't think it had anything to do with pastures.
