No J Brohm and no R Moore? Hope Brian Brohm and Marcellus Moore are up to the challenge of replacing them...

Last year David Bell went off for somewhere around 200 yards. That offense tears up Iowa's defense regardless who is on the outside. Losing Moore will hurt like a stubbed toe but someone will pick up the yards.

It's going to be interesting. Apparently Jackson Anthrop is also out, and he was the reliable slot receiver prior to Moore. Nowhere near as talented or as flashy, but could get open and catch the ball from the slot. I think Amad Anderson has been working in the slot a lot, and he's a really good receiver, so I do think we'll be okay there. And with Bell and Milton Wright on the outside, with the possible addition of Maliq Carr as a big-body guy who is a matchup nightmare, I don't think I'll say our WR corps is anything but stellar. But with Rondale Moore included? We're talking supernova.

I mentioned Marcellus Moore, and he's an interesting player who may make a name for himself. But he's basically wood sprite sized, and a true freshman. He's a BLAZING fast player, and he could very well be put into service as KR/PR, but I think he's too young to be pushed into service at the WR position. I could see them trying to put him on the field a few plays of offense for jet sweeps and/or reverses though. With his speed if he's in the open field he'll be hard to catch. But he doesn't have Rondale's strength, so if you DO get a hand on him, he's probably going to the ground.

I think it will be more interesting to see how Brian Brohm calls the game.

I'm interested in the Hawk's new QB.  I always expect Ferentz to call a conservative game, but more so with an inexperienced QB

Agree with everything BWar said, and would like to add that I believe Amad Anderson is the most underrated WR in the B1G.

He's got everything you'd want in a good WR.  He knows how to find the openings in the field, he attacks the ball, he has excellent hands, good body position, and great balance.

I'm actually surprised he hasn't transferred elsewhere to become a #1 or #2.

I like Anderson. I like Wright more.

Aidan O'Connell seems to pick his receiver before the ball is snapped.

These holding non-calls have gone from annoying to infuriating to laughable.

Purdue and Iowa were both garbage. Luckily for me, Iowa slightly more so.

told everyone in the garage that the first team to score a 3rd TD would win

I'd like to think the defenses are that good, but............

Both teams were the victim of that.  Karlaftis was held constantly.

The refs called exactly 1 holding penalty on each team.

the Big refs were a bit rusty yesterday

not a great performance

Here's a breakdown of penalties...

Iowa - False Start (X4), 12 Men On Field, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Pass Interference, Personal Foul, Holding, Face Mask.

Purdue - Delay Of Game, Pass Interference, Holding.

Iowa fans claiming bias need to watch the game again.  It was the Hawkeyes own sloppiness that cost them, not the refs.  C'mon, 4 false start penalties, 12 Men on the field.....

I didn't claim Iowa lost due to penalties.  They lost due to underperforming in everything but running the ball.

However, when the announcers repeatedly point out missed calls, it's bad.

I should have clarified, I wasn't referring to you specifically.

In general across a few forums that seemed to be the narrative.

It was a weird game. In the first half, Purdue couldn't run the ball for squat. Something changed in the second half and they started feeding Zander Horvath, who finished with 129 yards on 6.1 ypc. Conversely, it seemed like Iowa was just gashing Purdue on the ground all first half, but they stiffened in the second. Damarcus Mitchell for Purdue seemed to be all over the place on defense in the second half.

Passing, Petras for Iowa seemed great in the first half, but finished with a 56% completion percentage as things seemed to go worse in the second half.

The biggest issue for Iowa was completing drives. They had two decent drives end up in fumbles in Purdue territory, and another end up in only a FG attempt when they were rolling.

The biggest issue for Purdue was the 1st half running game, and Aidan O'Connell making some poor decisions with the football and some bad throws. I said he seemed to pick his receiver before the ball was snapped--I saw a number of questionable throws including a lucky completion to David Bell where he had to wrestle it away from the DB, Hankins, and a long pass to Milton Wright who was triple covered--surely someone else was open. He also had a terrible throw to the TE Payne Durham which resulted in an interception, in the Iowa red zone. Usually I blame tipped balls on the receiver, but Durham was on a shallow crossing route and O'Connell rifled the ball into him high and behind, and despite trying to contort himself back in time to get it, Durham had little chance at a catch. It popped off his shoulder and into the defender's arms. That one was 90% O'Connell, 10% Durham.

Hopefully this is just sloppiness, and the Purdue 2nd half defense is the real defense. Even if O'Connell is only "ok" going forward, if we have Rondale back it should mean that we have enough weapons to look a little more consistent on offense. Or maybe he'll be benched for Plummer or Burton.

But this seemed like a game that was there for the taking, and neither team was really stepping up to claim it.
