Just wondering.

There aren't any games to go to, Copernicus.

Nope. WVU isn’t allowing fans and high school games in WV are limiting attendance to immediate family.

I don't believe any will occur, but if they do, then... maybe.  I'm not worried about 25,000 people outdoors in a 100,000-seat stadium.  Even if every yahoo attempts to bumrush the 50-yard-line, it'll be easy enough for me to stay well away from the masses.

The real problems I see are in restroom facilities which are pretty cramped and enclosed, concessions (which are unnecessary and avoidable), and mostly-- entrance and egress.  On a typical gameday, there are tightly packed lines to get into, and out of, the stadium.

I suppose I could get there two hours early to avoid the entry lines, and stay an hour late to avoid the exit line.  But now we're talking a 7-hour day inside the stadium.  Which makes it even harder to avoid the concessions and bathrooms...

The new Abbott test might change attendance, if it works and is spread about fast enough.

They have a 15 minute turnaround test apparently.  Imagine you go to a game and get there at a prescribed time to get tested first.  You wait 15 minutes and get your entry ticket validated and then attend as normal.

Concert, convention, game, whatever, it could change things.

Imagine being the 5-7% who test positive and instead of enjoying the game, have to be quarantined.  With such an expectation subversion, it might cause some ugly outbursts.

If it's possible, you must do it, but it's not like there won't be hissy fits along the way.

Really?  Someone better tell the 60 or so programs that edited their schedules and are under the impression they're playing football in a week or so...

What is the data to suggest that 5-7% would test positive?

These would be folks who probably would be asymptomatic and normally not get tested.

Folks who seek testing usually have some reason to do so, known exposure, symptoms, etc., so testing positives are expected to be higher than rep pop.

This isn't a board where posters generally reside in the southeastern quadrant of the United States.

There is an SEC board hiding around here somewhere that you perhaps ought to check out.

YES!

I absolutely will be finding games to attend, Fall or Spring. Just tell me when and where.

It's tough. If I lived closer to Purdue, I certainly wouldn't consider it within my risk-reward matrix to go to a game in person in a semi-crowded stadium. (And yes, 15K in a 60K stadium is still semi-crowded relative to sitting on my couch).

If Purdue was playing, and had a game at USC or UCLA, and it was nearly my only chance to see them live in person for the next decade or so... I might have to consider it.

I won't be.  I doubt I could get tickets to a UGA game, if they play.  Any notion of going to a game in some neat location is obviously out.

Ditto for me and OU games.
I could probably get tickets to a University of Tulsa game, but the mediocre (or worse, lately) on-field performance isn't worth enduring the hour before kickoff wherein the loudspeakers blare rap music at the pain threshold.

I don't see any reason to attend any event that has a large crowd

I'd also suggest that stadiums not allow anyone over 60 years of age or anyone else at risk

I am going to be in the Columbus area towards the end of October, I had every intention of going to the OSU-Michigan game. I am going to be officiating football games in a few weeks with no hesitation. I am an Umpire, so I will be handling a sweaty football, I will be in the midst of a whole bunch of kids, etc.

Sorry, but I don't have any underlying conditions, so I am not in the least bit worried about catching Covid, the flu or any other virus that may be out there which wouldn't be pleasant to have, but certainly not worth changing my whole life over.

I know for Ohio HS football, refs are not allowed to touch the ball as a Covid-19 measure this year.  I wonder if that will be the same case for you or if that is just local to this area.

Not allowing anyone in over 60? Could we allow the 60 year olds to make that decision for themselves?

I would recommend this for everyone here.  Publix here gives you a $10 gift card if you get it, which is free.

I'm also due for my second Shingrix shot (shingles).

Yeah it's a good question.  They had the Pickerington North vs. Pickerington Central game on ESPN2 on Sunday, but I forgot to watch it.  Would've been interesting to see how it was handled.  I heard them mentioning it on Friday on 97.1, but haven't had a chance to see it in action.

I like that gift card, but that's because I'm thrifty and think too much about groceries.

we could, but some may not make the best decision and become a statistic
like those that stand in line to get in and have a fever, those folks are told to go home after taking their temp

I below to a National Forum of officials and Ohio is the only state to report this. As a former Ohio football official, I am glad I am not part of it. Using a beanbag for the center to spot the ball just seems stupid for a number of reasons.

This is what an Ohio Official that I know said

We did an intra-squad scrimmage last night.  Some observations, maybe it will help your crew.

(I know there is a state specific board, but since few go there, and there are some other Ohio officials here, please bear with me.  Thank you.)

1.  We wanted the forward point of the ball touching the bean bag and the center put the ball on or beyond the bean bag.  We let it go, which may have been a disservice.  We talked a bit about it afterwards.  In normal mechanics we spot the ball and every center at every level slides the ball forward as they tilt the ball.  Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.  So what we saw was really not much different from what we normally see.  We decided that we need to do a better job communicating our expectations to the center.  If the center takes advantage the U or R will stop the clock and fix it, reset to 25 and we'll wind it.

2.  Our U thought it was easier to retrieve the bean bag and set it for the next play while working from the CJ position instead of the regular U IP behind the defense.

3.  The R should help the U by retrieving the BB on punts.

4.  The HL frequently had trouble seeing the blue bag and did not know where to set the box.  We have ordered a couple of orange bean bags and hopefully that solves the problem.  (I know a lot of crews spot the ball on a line every play but in Ohio that is not the correct mechanic.)

5.  The state is encouraging the U to work from CJ so our U experimented.  We have to more scrimmage this coming week.  Our U plans to work from the regular IP during 2-minute and goalline and CJ the rest of the time.  We will see how that works.

As a person who is 60, I want the right to make my own decisions about the risks I am willing to take.

If someone happens to be in line with a fever and I have chosen to risk he might be in the line near me so be it.

If that fever is for more cowbell, you might be in Starkville.

I certainly understand this and respect it.

Interesting stat would be number of folks that have died that have made that decision.

I don't say this in a bad way, it would separate this group from "victims"

Absolutely. I chose to live deliberately. I assume the risk, I also assume the responsibility. If I contracted Covid I would not be a victim.

If I get Covid-19 and end up in the hospital and very sick, I would be the first to say, it is my own fault. Of course, I think, based on what I have read and the statistics I have seen, that the odds of me ending up in the hospital or dying from Covid to be very very small.

In general, you will not see me blame anyone or anything for things that happen to me.  Of course there are exceptions, the suicidal depression that I suffered from after Ohio State lost to Purdue was not my fault, it was completely Urban's fault for not having his team prepared.
