Post by: ALA2262 on August 20, 2020, 10:34:01 PM
CBS Sports released its 2020  (https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2020-cbs-sports-preseason-all-america-team-alabama-sec-lead-selections-from-teams-playing-in-fall/)Preseason All-America team (https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2020-cbs-sports-preseason-all-america-team-alabama-sec-lead-selections-from-teams-playing-in-fall/) on Tuesday, which was comprised of players from teams that are still moving forward with playing the 2020 football season.

With Alabama as one of them, the Crimson Tide led all schools with five first-team selections and nine overall players on the team voted on by CBS Sports and 247Sports writers.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith (https://247sports.com/Player/DeVonta-Smith-57201), offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood (https://247sports.com/Player/Alex-Leatherwood-80818), linebacker Dylan Moses (https://247sports.com/Player/Dylan-Moses-22587), cornerback Patrick Surtain II (https://247sports.com/Player/Patrick-Surtain-II-76862) and punt returner Jaylen Waddle (https://247sports.com/Player/Jaylen-Waddle-85880) were named to the first team. Leatherwood and Moses were among the nine unanimous selections. Running back Najee Harris (https://247sports.com/Player/Najee-Harris-62925) and offensive guard Deonte Brown (https://247sports.com/Player/Deonte-Brown-79391) landed on the second team.

Waddle accounted for three of Alabama's nine spots on the preseason All-America team, as the junior was also two-time, second-team selection as a receiver and all-purpose player.

Is it just me, or was it every time a Bama DB got beaten the past 2 years, it was Surtain?  I know his dad played football and all, but is he that good?  Maybe just lacks consistency?

It is just you. Patrick Surtain is considered one of the two best cornerbacks in the upcoming draft. Todd McShay has him the number 2 overall pick after Lawrence. I don't think he would be considered so highly if he got beat every time.

Bama really dominates this proj. draft, OSU and Clemson have several picks.  UGA has none in the first, which is a bit unusual.

I'm a bit surprised Richard LaCounte at safety is getting no preseason attention, not that it matters really.

THe good news is Bama is losing a lot this year.  The bad news is it doesn't matter.

I didn't say he got beat every time.
Maybe I'm too hard on him, but the best players shouldn't have their worst games against the tough teams.  He may be great at covering the average WRs, but I haven't been impressed by his play when I've seen him.

I'm usually hardest on OL, but I was surprised by Surtain's preseason pub.
