Title: 2021 Minnesota Offseason Thread
Post by: ELA on November 27, 2017, 08:53:21 AM
Wow, didn't see this coming.  Think Fleck might be regretting how he chose to cash in his 13-0 chips?

Train Wreck Fleck.

Nice ring to it.

let's not pretend like this kid was all world or anything like that. 41% completion and 4 TD's vs 7 INT's. Those are some J'OKe numbers. Minus about 3 TD's a'course.

No, but it's never good when a guy would rather transfer than be your starting QB.  It's not like Speight left after being named starter.

And if Minnesota had a better option, they'd play him.  This kid at least had moments.  He looked great against MSU in the fourth quarter and against Nebraska.  Flashes is more than any other Minnesota QB showed.

Probably shouldn't mention "trains" when discussing Minnesota's off the field shenanigans.

they are getting a JUCO transfer at QB named Victor Viramontes (6'2, 240). Viramontes was a one time Michigan commit but he flipped to his hometown Cal towards the end of NSD. Transferred out of Cal after only one year there, which is understandable. He committed to play for Sonny Dykes, Dykes got fired, Wilcox took over and Viramontes wasn't Wilcox's guy at QB so he transferred. Happens all the time when there are coaching changes.

I'd bet that Viramontes will wind up being their starter. He's a big athlete that can really run. Might wind up being an upgrade over what they had at QB in 2017.

Based on his tweet from late last night, Croft transferring is addition by subtraction.

How so? I don't understand or I'm missing something.

I also didn't realize he was a RS sophomore.  Thought he was a true freshman for some reason.  That changes a lot if that's what he looked like in his third year in the program vs. his first.

He thanked the Minnesota Department of Education for his time at the U, then blamed his forced exit on being falsely accused of punching through a dorm door.
The MDE doesn't handle any college administration at the state level, and Croft's suspension earlier this season was for a positive drug test. Bye.
The door did indeed hit Croft in the ass on the way out.

Good to get rid of guys like that, for sure.

yeah many local fans are not feeling Elite about them.  But others are so it will come down to win baby win and everyone will be fine

Some are starting to think Fleck is promoting his agenda with little regards for the University's tradition

Would any other University allow a coach to dramatically change the brand of the school like this?

Hayden Fry created the Tiger Hawk logo when he came to Iowa. He fashioned new uniforms to mimic the Steelers. Few people recall but the Iowa gold color changed permanently to more of a yellow. But contrary to what Fleck is doing, the the Tiger Hawk logo bore some relationship to the school's mascot, and the state nickname.

Boat oars will last one coaching era. Coaching eras at Minnesota generally are fleeting.

I found this website with cool concept helmets. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/533395149600911883
I like this one. Perhaps it was used once. The website seems confused over whether it was 1968 or 1986: (https://i.pinimg.com/564x/1a/6e/04/1a6e04e8cf162d674c74f178f2c59ef6--football-uniforms-football-helmets.jpg)

Lucky for PJ Fleck his most avid fan and strongest supporter is who he's married to. Heather Fleck goes on twitter and lashes back at Star Tribune reporter's negetivity:

its been a good off season.  PJ still has energy.  the QB situation is the biggest concern where we will be very young.  add depth at a good number of spots will help over all

Adding a QB that can read a defense and is totally bought into the system being run will also be a huge plus.

Minnesota will not be blown out in any game this next year and will hopefully surprise some teams.

I wouldn't say confidently any team won't ever get blown out.  You could always lay an egg.  PSU and UW were probably the only teams that never got blown out last year.

True never say never but I guess I am saying I don't see that likely happening.  but sure it can

at OSU and at Wisconsin are clearly two games that could go very south for us.  injuries and everything between now and then play a part in it.

having 5 away big ten games is harsh with two of them stated above.  Nebraska it seems we do fairly well there. Maryland and Illinois
