When this China Virus is over, what is the number one thing that you miss, that you will do first?

Just going on a date with my wife. We have a couple of local places we like to hit up. We prefer to sit at the bar and chat up the bartenders. We’ll also typically run into people we know at these places and have a drink with whoever we run into.  Just a little socializing without any reservations attached to it.

A. Stability when it comes to plans (Weddings/parties/etc)
B. Going to restaurants and sitting inside, instead of sweating outside
C. Going into an office again, though that might take longer.
D. Bars in general

Not looking forward to
People asking me to do things more

I'm looking forward to humanity coalescing around the understanding that we're all equal, that these tribal divisions like race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, political party, gender, sexual orientation, and/or all the other ways that we choose to hate or distrust each other are nothing more than artificial constructs that we can discard and move forward as a human race, not as tribes.

Oh, wait, you asked for when the "China Virus" goes away, not for when social media goes away...

I'll see myself out [from humanity].

Describe you favorite date.

Well, that's hard, but I think April 29th, it's not too cold, not too hot, it's just right....

I look forward to going on a cruise, without wearing a mask.

I look forward to hugging someone, other than my wife. (I'm good without handshakes - I'm a fist bump guy)

I look forward to going to a grocery store, without wearing a mask and without one-way aisles.

I look forward to pumping gas, without wearing a glove.

So much has changed with this virus. I don't know what "normal" is.

But, those are some of the things I look forward to.

I'm not a hugger

I don't wear a mask in the grocery store - yet.     I try to go down the isles the right way

I don't wear anything while pumping gas, well pants, I wear pants

My two trips today to the medical center were interesting, they are taking significant precautions, one might think overkill, I don't know.  They've had to add staff to each office to help clean surfaces, and they leave a piece of paper on each cleaned surface.  This has to slow them down, but I imagine they have many fewer folks like me coming in with "lingering" issues.

I'd been to this sports med office before with the wife when she was having her hip revision.  The place was "busy", not today, maybe 3 other patients when I got there, versus more like 10 back in November.  And everyone of course was wearing a mask.

Normalcy may not return for years, if ever, and some changes could be good.

Lol.

This thing has been spreading since last November. At least. There are almost 8 billion people in the god damn world. How many have died from this in almost a year? 620,000 is the official count. Bet you by November official death count still won’t be 1,000,000 people.

Your initial salvo was that it'd disappear after Nov 4.

Now you're belittling it. If it's that little, then why would Nov 4 matter?

Want to wager on whether we reach 1M by November?

No my initial salvo was that after Trump inevitably loses, most all this bullshit and media hysteria over something that IS JUST NOT THAT SERIOUS will evaporate almost overnight.

Aren’t you the same guy that said Tesla was going bankrupt and the stock was going from $180 to zero like a year ago? $1,600 a share since that great prediction of yours. WHOOOPS.

Maybe I should take you up on a wager lol.

I look forward to going out on an actual date that includes appetizers, drinks and talking to random people.

Also, I'm confident that Biden being elected and people getting over this thing might parallel, if we get a vaccine ramped up by winter time.  Fall is still a big worry for me - I just don't know how logistically things will work out when we have actual cold and flu season along with COVID.  But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Exactly!   It is the “TrumpVirus” after all.
so say the CCP and Nazi Pelosi.

what he is saying is that the American MSMwill begin covering it with a much different tone beginning Nov 4th- regardless of out come, and he is spot on    If you can’t admit that their narrative is Continued chaos to work against POTUS- something they only mildly try to hide- your not living in reality.

No it’s easy. I just have to look at the web pages each day and laugh my ass off. Like today for example were CNN is talking about Portland mayor being teargassed.

What they don’t talk about and which I have already watched the video of his that very mayor being damn near assaulted by the crowd, having to be scurried away from the protesters not the teargas, and having bottles and other objects thrown at him while he escaped.

Their narrative is that the federal law enforcement officers that are there to protect federal buildings are the problem and the reality is that is completely fake news. The violent anarchist and protesters are obviously the real problem. But at least I can give them credit for discussing it which is something they usually won’t do just like they won’t cover the murders in Chicago and the violence going on in most of our major cities today. their narrative is that the federal law enforcement officers that are there to protect federal buildings are the problem and the reality is that is completely fake news. I doubt the nature of coverage changes on election night.  It could shift some after the inauguration.

COVID looks very serious to me anyway.  I know some claim it's "not that fatal, only old people die", but it is taking up a lot of hospital space even if treatment has improved and mortality rates are down, and of course for quite a few not old people, it's unpleasant to contract.

The report new case rate in Sweden is declining, I'm not sure why.  They experienced quite a few deaths relatively, I'm not sure why.  Their experiment has not been an all out disaster.

A) The virus isn’t economy-derailing. It’s the DUMBASS OVERREACTION, THE MASS SHUT DOWNS AND LOCK DOWNS and then a weak, ineffective federal government doing next to nothing to stimulate the economy and help people weather the storm of these stupid ass FORCED SHUTDOWNS.

B) I could give a shit less what I sound like. This thing is not that serious. It’s a mild disease. It isn’t killing healthy, young people. It’s killed people that are old as shit and were on the way out anyway, the immune compromised, and it’s killing the disgustingly fat, severely obese people with diabetes and heart conditions who don’t appreciate their life anyway and should get on a treadmill and eat a fucking salad and drink water instead of shovel an entire extra large Pizza Hut meat lovers down their fat disgusting faces and then wash it down by guzzling an entire 2 liter of Pepsi.

The last time I was out for pizza with the wife, we ordered a large for the two of us.  After one slice, she got a phone call from her daughter in France, so she gets up to take it outside.  I know these calls can last hours.  So, I eat another slice, I mean it is just sitting there, and then another ... first thing I know the pizza is gone.

What to do?

So, I order another pizza just like it, eat two slices, and right on cue she comes back in and finds a still hot pizza waiting.  She never noticed.  I paid the tab.

Well, it's obviously getting into late July.  Normally "we" here would be gearing up for stuff, now we seem aimless.  I get a sense the SEC is going to give it a go, or maybe they are just looking brave before dropping the hammer.

I hope the SEC moves forward with a season. Cause I don't think the B1G or Pac will.

I am looking forward to:

My husband finally out of his sling (rotator cuff surgery last month) and having the time to go on a long delayed road trip before he returns to work.

My brother being able to leave Kansas and get up to NE so we can finally inter my mom's ashes (she passed in Feb).  See above.

Being able to go to the store and not have to order everything online - it's convenient but I miss window shopping at the store.

November 5.  If it goes the way I want, it would be a nice early birthday present (Nov 9).

Less hysteria on social media and being able to have a conversation that does not revolve around COVID-19 and / or Trump.  I don't like election years at the best of times, and this year has sucked beyond belief.

I look forward to when I can travel to Arizona to see my mom and dad, 86 and 87 years old. Dad stopped working in March as a Safeway sacker because of Covid-19. He used to say he would die if he stopped working. Now he is afraid he will die if he does work. He has been working high school kid type jobs almost 20-years so he would keep busy, and keep living.

It's been difficult on him, and we speak at least 2x per week, but it is not the same as an in-person visit.

The surgeon said the surgery was almost always successful, done outpatient, arthroscopically, and the alternative is a lot of pain, and I can't throw a baseball, which is the real reason here.  He said if I do the PT religiously, and I will, I should be fine.

My shoulder apparently is a big mess as well as the rotator cuff, which I kinda knew already.

My husband's surgery went well; he has arthritis in that shoulder as well as bone spurs they shaved down.  He has five anchors holding the repair in place and has had two weeks (3 days a week) of PT.  Make sure you take your pain meds about an hour before your PT or you will regret it, lol.  Hubby skipped it before his PT yesterday and is still hurting big time today.  He is mostly frustrated as it is his right shoulder (he's right handed) and he can't do much of anything.  He is used to working all the time and the boredom is getting to him.  He really has no hobbies other than playing computer games which is difficult since his fingers can't coordinate the mouse if he uses his left hand.  It took me 20 years to talk him into going to see a doc about his shoulder pain and he keeps saying he should have just "lived with it" like he had done before.  I think when all is said and done he will be happy he did it.  Doc says a full six weeks in the sling and 10-12 weeks of PT before he can even think about going back to work.  We may squeak by with his family medical leave picking up the insurance premiums for 3 months, but it's going to be close.  What hurts is the missing paycheck for those 3 months.  Working on getting him short term disability but I don't think that was part of his insurance pkg.

Can't even take advantage of the time off to see family as most of them are in other states with varying levels of isolation / quarantine protocols in place.  So, a lot of watching DVD's we've put off seeing for a long time.  Too bad he doesn't like sports - I have scads of Husker games he could watch but he would not be interested.

Good luck with your surgery and here's hoping for a quick recovery!

The wife got her "bill" for the MRI, $4134, all paid by insurance.  Mine was at the same place.  They seem not to be very busy.

Her surgery is scheduled for 3 August.  I have not heard back from the doc yet.  I have bone spurs as well as the rotator cuff injury, which happened in 1971.

I am willing to hit the PT very hard.  I need to be in playing shape by January.  I guess my piano will suffer though, I have a few left handed pieces, and my left is still weak anyway.  There is a Chopin Etude I like that is mostly left handed.  I am pondering when to schedule mine so that she is somewhat recovered while leaving time for me to recover before January.  It's my right, her left.  And the car is a manual.

Oddly enough, this injury did not get better with age, go figure.  Now just simply reaching for things is painful.
Title: Re: What do you look forward to?
Post by: huskerdinie on July 27, 2020, 08:20:58 PM
Oh, wow.  My hubby's MRI was around $1400, of which insurance paid $600.  We are making monthly payments on the other $800.  Thank goodness the surgery was outpatient; I can't imagine what it would cost with a hospital stay.

My husband was asked today about driving; we have an automatic and I do all the driving anyway, so that is one less worry for us.  We prefer manuals, but I'm glad we have the automatic right now - in an emergency, he would probably be able to drive himself if he had to.  I spend all my time in the car, I swear.  Between his doctor appointments and my sister's doctor appointments (I took away her license years ago), trips to the library and grocery store it's a good thing I'm retired now.  If I have to see a doc, we are going to be in trouble, ha ha.

PT is slow but steady for him now.  Really painful the other day but today wasn't bad.  Looking forward to getting the sling off.

I'm on Medicare, as is the wife, and I have retiree supplemental.  She has something else, not sure what.

I presume that $4400 is the "MSRP" in effect, not the "real price".  I called today and learned they have not sent the MRI over to my doc yet, which is kind of a bummer.  They are on the same floor around the corner.  They gave me a CD, yay, I can't read it.

2020 sucks

Hubby is slowly recovering from his rotator cuff surgery and my brother is hoping we can finally meet up in Nemaha, NE for the internment of my mom's ashes -been waiting since she passed in February.

Meanwhile, my ex-husband was just diagnosed with lung cancer and his doc is worried it has already metastasized to his brain.  My brother-in-law is continuing his fight against skin, lung, and brain cancer and my mother-in-law is currently cancer free.

So looking forward to some semblance of "normal" - although that seems to mean major illness for my family members, so maybe a new normal would be better.

Taking a family vacation with my wife and daughter.

Seeing my folks in AZ who are hunkering down and isolating due to COVID-19.

Walking across the street from my office to the bar to visit the bartender, and his staff, and consume the great food he offers, that is far better than bar food.

Achieving justice while not being fearful of disease spread simply by walking into a courthouse atmosphere surrounded by dozens of people from every background, half or more of whom do not socially isolate.

Going to a wake or funeral and greeting my neighbors or old friends and expressing my condolence, rather than mailing a card and gift certificate.

“We’re not negotiating over liability protection,” he told CNBC as Congress looks to craft a coronavirus relief agreement.

Why would it be important to Dems to be able to bring lawsuits against healthcare workers and businesses?

I'm all for holding China and the WOW liable, but not Doctors, Nurses, healthcare workers, and others.
Why is it so important to protect insurance companies and corporations from liability to American people for either corporate negligence or recklessness? If you are in a car accident, you are governed by the laws of negligence as it pertains to civil liability. Should we require an exception from these standards for corporations when they act unreasonably and someone is injured or dies? Isn't one of the best ways to contribute to ending a pandemic to require corporations to abide by recognized legal standards? You and I do not not get a pass from that standard in our everyday life. We will be sued if we run a stop sign and injure someone. Why should a corporation get a pass with regard to the way it treats  employees and customers? Liability standards with respect to employees are more stringent because we have workers compensation.
Why does Wal-Mart, Target and Costco require masks for employees and customers? Why doesn't Fareway Stores require masks? Have Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, the CDC, and epidemiologists helped  establish a standard of how a reasonable corporation treats employees and customers? Maybe, and maybe not. A jury of 8-Iowans can decide. I wouldn't want to be on the side of Fareway Stores.
Why didn't Tysons require social distancing when the pandemic hit, and either immediately require face shields and masks, or the social distancing standards of the CDC? Eventually they did, but they knew their plant conditions and CDC recommendations and did nothing at first. Tysons has spent plenty on lobbyists seeking a free pass on the liability, so let's give that to them. Their workers don't have that power.
In Waterloo I was told 5 employees died at the Tyson plant from COVID-19. If Tysons knew or should have known there was a probability of death or serious injury did they carry on business as usual, and if so should they have been allowed to carry on business as usual in a pandemic? I just don't understand why corporations should be immune from lawsuits, when you and I are not immune.
When you run a stop light and hit someone you are held liable, and your insurance carrier pays the damages.
