Title: Irrelevant SEC Recruiting
Post by: bamajoe on July 19, 2020, 03:50:11 PM
I thought it noteworthy to remark on Alabama's recent recruiting success. About a month ago Bama was uncharacteristically languishing somewhere around number 40 in the recruit rankings. Since that time Bama has gone on a tear and are now in the top ten again.

This week they got the Brockermeyer brothers out of Fort Worth even though their father is a former Texas All American. They are considered the number one tackle and center prospects; respectively, in the land. Bama followed that up with Terrence Ferguson out of Peach County, Ga. considered the number two guard prospect in the country. They already have the number five tackle in five star prospect JC Latham out of IMG Academy who committed a week ago. It has been a good week for Alabama regarding the future OL.

How are you guys doing?

UGA, like Bama, tends to lag and finish up pretty well at the end.  Looks like UGA is at 16 right now, I imagine they will end up top five, I don't pay much attention really.

I remember Blake Brockermeyer, wore 69 I believe.  Maybe his boys will be as good as the Pouncey twins were for Florida.

Gators fans have had to trust Mullen's recruiting, because he seems to go after 3* guys he specifically wants.  Our class is ranked 10th in 24/7 composite rankings, so that's fine.

2 problems that I'd like 'fixed' are:
a - the top 5 FL recruits are leaving the state, and related to that...
b - Alabama's pipeline with IMG Academy needs to switch to Florida

All that being said, Ohio State's head-and-shoulders above everyone at the moment.

Ohio State is having a great recruiting season, but I disagree that they are head and shoulders ahead of everybody else. They have 19 recruits which is four more than Alabama and LSU and nine more than Georgia. If you consider the average recruit ranking Ohio State is only slightly more than the afore mentioned three. State may win this ranking but it won't be by much.

It's not that OSU has 5* guys, but they have high 5* guys....not just top 300 guys, but top 150 guys.

I suspect recruiting rankings mean even less than usual this year because of "special events" ...
