bama has neutral games for next 2 years, then gets back into home and home series, with a trends seeming to be multiple p5 teams each year after 2025 or so. and usf from the g5 is no slouch either.

future bama ooc schedules:
2020: usc (dallas), ga state, kent st, ut martin
2021: miami (atl), so miss, new mex st, mercer
2022: utah st, @ texas, ulm, austin peay
2023: texas, @ usf
2024: wku, usf, @ wisconsin
2025: @ fsu, ulm, wisconsin
2026: @ wvu, usf, fsu
2027: wvu, @ osu
2028: @ notre dame, osu
2029: nd
2030: @ ga tech
2031: ga tech
2032: arizona, @ oklahoma
2033: @ arizona, oklahoma
2034: @ va tech
2035: va tech

so next 3 years are meh outside of 1 game, but then it picks up in quality and quantity. so happy we're getting back to home and home series.

Silver lining around a dark cloud. Has to mean they think or know that the CFP will be expanded. No way in Hell they need to expand except for more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

There was talk that UGA was figuring on an expanded playoff when their scheduling went bonkers.

Hmm... Wasn't that what I was saying?

So for everyone who wants to see more marquee OOC games and fewer pastries, an expanded playoff helps make that happen.

2022:  Utah, USF, @FSU
2023:  @Utah, Charlotte, FSU
2024:  Miami, Samford, @FSU
2025:  USF, @Miami, FAMU, FSU (literally all in-state teams)
2026:  Cal, @ FSU
2027:  @Cal, FSU
2028:  CU, @ASU, @FSU
2029:  @CU, FSU
2030:  Texas, @FSU

I see Bama playing USF.  That's smart.  Everyone should do 2-for-1s with USF and UCF - get that FL talent exposure.

For MSU, a lot of meh in the near future, with Miami, BYU, Boise State and Boston College as the "marquee" games over the next six years.  Then it gets better with the return of ND, plus a couple Pac 12 names

2020: Miami, @BYU, Toledo
2021: @Miami, Western Kentucky, Youngstown State
2022: @Boise State, WMU, Akron
2023: Boise State, CMU, Richmond
2024: @Boston College, FAU
2025: Boston College, WMU, Youngstown State
2026: @Notre Dame
2027: Notre Dame, CMU
2028: @Washington
2029: Oregon
2030: @Oregon, CMU
2031: Washington

I will say, BC does kind of move the needle for me a bit, as they were frequently UMs second big opponent (back when that was a thing) in the 90s, when I was falling in love with the game.  Feels like they must have played like half the time in the 90s.

For a program like Alabama, how much does it matter in recruiting that they play in Florida versus say playing Michigan in Ann Arbor and being on TV?

I doubt it moves the needle much at all. Alabama is a house hold brand now. They are on TV for every game and they are always in the mix for the playoffs. They sell themselves well enough that a game location won't really matter to them.

For Oklahoma

2020: 9/5 Missouri State; 9/12 Tennessee; 9/26 at Army

2021: 9/4 at Tulane; 9/11 Western Carolina; 9/18 Nebraska

2022: 9/3 UTEP; 9/17 at Nebraska

2023: 9/2 Illinois State (1); 9/9 Georgia; 9/16 at Tulsa

2024: 8/31 Temple; 9/7 at Tennessee; TBA Tulane

2025: 9/6 Michigan; 9/13 at Temple

2026: 9/5 at UTEP (1); 9/12 at Michigan; 9/19 at New Mexico

2027: 9/18 LSU

2028: 9/2 Temple; 9/9 at LSU

2029: 9/15 Nebraska

2030: 8/31 Tulsa; 9/14 at Nebraska

2031: 9/13 at Georgia

2032: 9/11 Alabama

2033: 9/3 Tulsa; 9/10 at Alabama

2034: TBA

2035: 9/15 at Clemson

2036: 9/13 Clemson

I like the marquee games a lot, but I'd like to see us stop scheduling FCS programs and, ideally, replace them with either upper-tier G5 or middling P5 opponents.

Could be a lot worse.

We had a series with UCLA the past two years.  Tennessee, admittedly on hard times, but maybe not so much when the schedule was made 15-20 years ago, is a borderline top-10-ish program all-time.  UCLA is a top 30-ish program all-time.

The Dawgs will be playing 3 P5 teams a year toward the end of the decade OOC, which leaves only one croissant.

Well, Georgia Tech is really a pastry now.

Also bama has been plucking South Florida talent for a while now. One of the reasons Miami can’t get back is they can’t keep their talent like they did from 80-00. And bama is one of the biggest culprits.

More specifically, the Tide seems to have a pipeline with IMG Academy, south of Tampa Bay.  That's really frustrating for the FL teams, for their own in-state football magnet school to be pillaged like that.

When I was a student, FSU (an independent) in 1981 scheduled:
Nebraska (#17)
Ohio State (#7)
Notre Dame
Pitt (#3)
LSU
Miami (#13)
S. Mississippi (#13)
Florida

FSU went 6-5, overall. It was in one of Bobby Bowden's early years, and with that schedule, it was a heckuva result. They defeated Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Louisville, Memphis State and Western Carolina.

Either your schedule will be replaced, or if they go through with this nonconference scheduling, your coach will be replaced.

I think they think that a couple OOC losses won't be pivotal, if they happen, e.g., lose 2 of 3 OOC contests and win the division and you could be an impressive 10-3.

I personally don't think an "impressive 10-3" should make even an 8 teamer, but whatever.  It helps that GaTech may well be a pastry then as now.  Or not.  I had thought the Dawgs should drop Tech to play a better schedule, but perhaps keeping them is OK if they play a better schedule.

You can eliminate Oklahoma in 2031 now. UGA plays at Oklahoma in 2023. Oklahoma will buy out of the return game.

Scheduling H/H eight years apart is stupid.

I'm not sure why UGA could get bought out of that return game.

Some feared that ND would buy their way out, but they didn't.  That was just two years apart though.

Envy!? something bad to say? WTF!? Nothing bad about buying out of a game. Happens all the time, which is the basis of my assertion. If that was not the case, OAM would not have brought it up in the first place.

Georgia perhaps needing to unload a game vs. a P5 opponent would mean that Georgia would hypothetically be needing to take action.  There is no incentive whatsoever for OU to buy out of that game.  It may have happened, but I am unaware of OU buying out of a "marquee" game in the last 50 years.
Title: Re: ohio state and alabama announce home and home series 2027-28
Post by: Cincydawg on June 22, 2020, 08:57:32 AM
And Georgia doesn't need the money.  This isn't like buying out Appy State or someone.  The separation in time between games is because of who else was scheduled in between, nothing else.  If OU wants out, they probably are stuck.  And I can't see why they would want out anyway.
