ITT you can list which players from your favorite school surprised you the most about they went in the draft. Either much higher than you would have thought or much lower (or not at all). Pick one for each. Here are my two.
Charles Fisher- This guy was a CB at WVU who was the first pick of the 2nd round of the ‘99 draft. He didn’t crack the starting lineup until his senior season and even then had what most WVU fans considered an average, forgettable season. But he apparently had a really good day pro day and combine and parlayed that into being the 33rd overall pick in the draft to the Bengals. I remember me and a friend were blown away by this. I can name ten guys off the top of my head who I thought were better corners at WVU. He blew his knee out his first game and never played another down.
Grant Wiley- On the other end of the spectrum is this guy who was a 4 year starter and tackling machine at LB during his time in Morgantown. He was as a freshman AA in 2000 and a consensus AA as a senior in 2003. Despite his accomplishments he went undrafted. I heard technical jargon like he didn’t have “good hips” as reasons why NFL teams weren’t high on him. It’s not like I thought he would be a first round pick but I figured somewhere along the line somebody would draft a guy who did nothing but produce at a high level in college. The Vikings picked him up as an UFA. He got hurt, was placed on IR, and then got hurt again the next year. He retired without ever playing a NFL game. He ended up losing about 60 pounds and got into acting.

Oh, wow, ever? I thought this was going to be for this year. Hmm.
We had a pair of corners leave early a few years back, and neither got drafted. I had heard as high as 2nd-3rd round for one of them. 2014 draft - Roberson and Purifoy were their names, had to look it up.
Meanwhile, Florida's 3rd CB that year was picked in the 4th round.

Lol. Yeah that would count. I think if you had told someone in, say late 1981, that Herschel was going to be drafted in the fifth round of 1985 that would have surprised a few people.

Dallas took a good risk on that one. He ended up being worth a ton of players from the Vikings a few years later.

I was shocked Cousins went as high as he did, and then the fact he actually probably could have gone higher.
Then, across the board, I thought MSU front seven players under Dantonio would have gone higher. But, then, in fairness, none of them have really exceeded their draft slot.
So in both cases, I was wrong.

Vernon Gholston had 22.5 Sacks his last two seasons in C-Bus.Was drafted no 6 in the 1st rd of the draft,and he busted bad :017: never saw that coming.Andy Katzenmoyer also busted but he had a neck injury.Off the top of my head those were surprises.
As I've mentioned before Bill Belichick shocked Browns fans by taking Craig Powell with the Browns 1st pick.The really,really sad thing about this was the Browns had the 10th overall pick.Belichick panicked when Kyle Brady was taken so he traded down to the 30th pick.After having all the 1st round to think about it the idiot picked Craig Powell.Who missed his senior season in C-Bus after knee surgery.Powell played in parts of 14 games over 3 years he made 1 solo tackle and was in 3 others
None of that ended up mattering as Model moved the team.He gets a championship in Baltimore promoted Ozzie newsome to the head of player personell who had a great career.Belichick lands in NE does an about face from his C-Town debacles and wins 8 Titles.And Browns Fans.......it's a real sad story

Hmmm. In recent memory- probably Ernest Shazor or Mo Hurst. I thought Hurst was a 1st round pick. Must’ve been the heart thing? He’s sure way out played his draft slot in his short nfl career.
Shazor going undrafted was a little shocking. This is a guy that was being mocked as a top 10 pick after his junior year.

Tingelhoff was as originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent out of Nebraska in 1962. Tingelhoff earned a starting nod at center as a rookie and never relinquished the role for the remainder of his stellar 17-season career. An ironman in the NFL, Tingelhoff never missed a game or a practice during his career. He started 240 consecutive games, started in four Super Bowls and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection.

I was interested in guys you personally watched at Nebraska and remember their careers. There are always some guys we watched in college and NFL scouts seem to like them or dislike them more than we did.
I’ll tell you another guy from WVU I was shocked went so high was Pat White to the Dolphins in the 2nd round. He was great in college but I knew he wasn’t going to be a NFL QB but apparently Miami felt differently to pick him so high.

I’m just looking for what surprised you at the time. Not necessarily whether they outperformed or underperformed their draft position in the NFL.
I wouldn’t call it a rule though. That’s no fun.
