This would include an abbreviated season, even one game played by two teams. A further pondering would be what happens to player eligibility if most of the season is not played.
-
It would probably be irresponsible to start the season when it's supposed to start.
An interesting abbreviated season idea would be to only play conference games. The potential bowl game matchups would be extra interesting, due to the lack of regular-season OOC games.

40 percent.
-
The complicating factor is that not all colleges are going to behave the same.

Per ESPN, that's all college football has been for the past 5 years.

100%. All of my training has been preparing me for this!

Oh man, don't even go there.
-
I'd rather not think about it

Actually if the NCAA decided to shorten the football season, I would like to see a 6 game divisional season and then a 64 team tournament. Each Power Five conferences would send their top 4 teams and the rest of the field would be selected by CFP Selection Committee.

Sam McKewon contemplates the fate of the 2020 season and says any version of college football is worth fighting for.

Online oddsmaker Draftkings Sportsbook released its 2020 college football futures on Tuesday, which included an over-under for Nebraska’s 2020 win total. The Huskers had an over-under of eight wins set by the oddsmaker. Going over that win total would likely exceed expectations given Nebraska’s challenging schedule in 2020.

As you might imagine, defending Big Ten champion Ohio State has DraftKings’ highest over/under win total in the league at 11. That is second only to Clemson (11.5) nationally. Penn State and Wisconsin are tied for the second spot in the Big Ten at 9.5, with Michigan checking in at an even 9. Nebraska is at 8 and Iowa 7.5.
Likewise, Ohio State is the clear betting favorite among Big Ten teams when it comes to winning the College Football Playoff, coming in a low +250. The Buckeyes are tied with Alabama for second in the nation there, trailing only … you guessed it … Clemson (+225). Michigan and Wisconsin also check in at +5000, with Iowa at +8000 and Nebraska at +10,000.
It should be noted that DraftKings is warning anyone who plays these odds that all bets will be void if the season is shortened.

UGA's prospects hinge on how good this Wake QB transfer turns out to be, and obviously he would benefit greatly from August practice etc. The rest of the team should be pretty solid, but that is a large potential miss.
-
Iowa State has cut the pay and bonuses for all coaches. Maybe that is a hint of what is to come - or what isn't coming.
-
My guess is we may see some games, perhaps only conference games, and a rejiggered schedule, played in front of empty stadia.
-
128 team, double elimination tournament. Screw Liberty for sure, and...UMass?

What is still surreal to me is that in just over three weeks we have gone from thinking the 2019/2020 CBB season would still finish up, just with empty arenas to now seriously doubting whether or not there will be a 2020 CFB season.

This part would make me worried, if I were Notre Dame brass:
Specifically, there have been models for college football (https://www.cbssports.com/college-football) teams reconvening on June 1, July 1 and Aug. 1. In addition, there has been discussion of a truncated season, including one with only conference games being played.

I'm not worried about the 2020 CFB season--yet.
I think your point is really astonishing that we made this mental change in three weeks. But we might have over-pivoted our mental frame of reference from "everything is normal" to "nothing will ever return to normal" in three weeks, and I think that might be too far.
This thing is moving VERY fast. On Mar 11--the last day games were played in the BTT, there were 1301 cases in the US and 38 deaths. There are now >250K and >6K. In three weeks it went from basically nothing and we questioned whether everyone in the world was overreacting to an exponential curve and the bulk of the country is under "stay at home" orders.
Where will it be in a month? Where will it be in two months? Two months is basically 9 weeks--three times the amount of time since the end of sports. With how fast this is moving, that's an ETERNITY.
Right now everyone is in the mental frame of "this is just going to keep getting worse [forever]", because of the way it's dominating the world right now. But to have a full CFB season, team activities would probably need to be allowed to restart 2 months from now. If it restarts later than that, we might be looking at an abbreviated or a shifted season. If this is still so much of a threat that they can't start activities until late July, or into August... Then there's probably no season.
So I'm not ready to predict what'll happen to the 2020 CFB season because making predictions two weeks out is hard enough with this thing.
