Title: Georgia @ Auburn
Post by: MikeDeTiger on November 07, 2017, 07:16:16 PM
About as interested in this as I can be in a non LSU game.  UGA with a stiff test on the road, AU out to prove they're as legit as they've looked at times.

I'm kind of interested in this for fact-finding as well.  AU is probably the best team UGA will have played so far (maybe I need to watch ND more), I want to see how they respond to a team with athletes that belong on the field with them.  For AU I want to see who's the real Auburn, the team that couldn't get out of its own way at times vs. Clemson and LSU, or the team that has steamrolled everyone else.

Last week showed me some stuff about Alabama, and if UGA and Alabama are the division representatives, this will be the other game that tells me more about how I expect that to go.

Specifically, I want to see Fromm against the Barn defense.  I'd like to see AU get after him some and clamp down on the run to see what he does when he has to be the man.  But we'll see.  It may not come to that.

Spurrier was asked a couple of weeks ago if UGA could beat Bama and he said sure, if Bama had a bad game ,but Bama would be favored.  I think this is exactly right. We are 2+ years from being mano a mano favorites against them.

Auburn, though,is a very close match.  They have a balanced offense and a great dline and they seem to have fixed their pass protection issues. I too think they have more players than Notre Dame, but this is not Fromm's first ever start either.

I think Fromm passes the test, pun intended, and UGA wins a close one 31-27 at Sanford on the Plains. (We have a winning record there,16-10)

You must not be aware of the attrition that is going on in Tuscaloosa. Alabama lost two more lbs for the season against LSU to go along with the two they lost early in the season. One was Shaun Dion Hamilton who was a team captain and the other, Mack Wilson, a Donte Hightower clone. I can't see Alabama going undefeated or winning the NC after losing those players.

I love how Bama is so good that a total depletion of one position group only means they won't go undefeated or win the whole damn enchilada.  Must be nice.

I've always liked watching UGA-AUB, despite it being one of the 2 selfish series that held the SEC hostage with the cross-division rivals thing.  It's just cool to see those 2 helmets on the same field.

I think either team needs to win the turnover battle (am I boring or what?) and of course field position.  Punting might be a huge factor here.  I see this as a 50-50 game.  Fromm seems to make one ill advised pass a game and about half the time they are INTs.

I worry about our ability to pressure the QB without the blitz.  Roquan Smith may end up with 14 individual tackles in this game.  He's our best defender.

If you look back in history, you will see many times one side has ended the other's undefeated season.  It's remarkable really, going back to 1942.  In 1971, UGA was undefeated and Pat Sullivan had a bunch of prayers answered and beat UGA in Athens.  We returned the favor a few times also.

You throw out the records and home field advantage and everything else when toe meets leather.

Yeah, this game is pretty evenly matched.
Auburn will be the most balanced team UGA has faced this year, you have to make Stidham try and beat you with his arm and pressure him, but can the Dawgs do it?
Auburn's offense has been rolling the last few games.  I could see this game being very similar to the Auburn-LSU game.

Somewhere like 27-24, 31-27 like game.
Going to be a tough one for sure.

if Auburn wrecks the 2-sec-team opportunity in the playoffs, they'll likely be escorted over the Georgia or Florida line and forced on either the ACC or Conference USA next season.

this ought to be the 'can't miss' game of the weekend for any college football fan, by my reckoning.  OU/TCU, and Catholics/Criminals is just a distraction.

usually i'd toss out a prediction without a care of being right or wrong, and usually for trolling purposes to get people to the website out of emotional reaction, but.... even as much as i like UGA's team this year, i like Auburn's 'embattled' status just as much- and can argue it either way.  I have a sneaking suspicion, and though i can't give a reason why, that Auburn win's it.  I hate that, too... I really like this UGA team's moxy.

If you're a Dawg fan, you sure don't want the players thinking this way, but...

UGA is probably fine if they lose this game, so long as they win the rest of them.  Take care of the regular season then beat Alabama in the SECCG or Auburn in a rematch, and they'll almost certainly be in the playoff committee's top 4.

It's a 50-50 game, I'm pretty sure, even if one teams pulls away late.  I don't see a specific reason to favor A or G or vice versa.

I disagree, ND vs Miami when both are good is the national game of the week.

It is worse than that- they still have a 5 star freshman and 2 4 star top 100 freshmen to throw out there after all that.  That is the depth Kirby has not had time to build yet.

No one in the history of college football (since scholly limits) has had the time to build it, either.

The UGA OL looked like a bunch of swirling fatties.  Wow.  Amazing result.

It wasn't that amazing to me.  UGA had managed to play well most of the year and just laid a stinker with mistakes all over the place, and the offensive play calling seemed unwilling to put the game in Fromm's hands, which was the only way to stay in it.  They weren't going to run on Auburn, and the usual tactics against a heavy rush seemed to be absent from the playbook.

You have to be willing to pass on first down, and pass again on second.  But the OL was exposed for being mediocre (again) and a freshman QB no matter how good is still inexperienced.

Surprised me...after Auburn had PROVED that we couldn't run between the tackles against them...that we kept trying to do so.  Don't we have a few misdirection or reverse plays designed to get the running back outside...give Chubb or Michel a chance to get to the open field?  Seems like we just kept on with that "Let's just blast it off tackle again!"  And Auburn was the one doing the blasting.  (Reminded me of the offensive scheme back during the Vince Dooley days.)

Going to be interesting if Mark Richt finally wins a national championship, and it's with Miami.

I don't think this Miami team is in any danger of winning a NC, but who knows what the future holds.  Richt might have a lot of years left in him.

It would appear Coach Malzhan has learned to not take the foot off the gas against a good team now....excellent, dominating performance by Auburn EXCEPT on kick coverage and punt team.

How can our O-line play so well against Auburn and Alabama and look so shaky at times against Arkansas and Ole Miss?

I guess inconsistency is what you get with multiple true freshmen on the line.  Prior to this year a tr.fr. had never started on OL for LSU in my lifetime.  After this year, I hope to never see it again.
