Didn't see one so DB's Jeff Okudah & Shaun Wade have delared for the Draft and so has JK Dobbins

OSU Schedule
Bowling Green
@Oregon
Buffalo
Rutgers
BYE
Iowa
@MSU
@PSU
Nebraska
Indiana
@Maryland
@Illinois
Michigan
Don't love having the bye that early. At Penn State is always a problem. Interested to see what Oregon looks like with Herbert leaving.
-
That Oregon game out West early could be tricky.
The four game stretch coming out of the off week could be rough as well:
I do like that PSU and M are not back-to-back immediately proceeding another potential tough game in Indy.
-
Much better Duck teams have been absolutely curb stomped by much worse Buckeye squads.

When?
I double checked and according to my go-to source:
- Woody's team beat them in the 1958 Rose Bowl ('57 season, for a tOSU NC).
- Woody's teams beat them four more times in the 1960's (three in Columbus, one in Eugene).
- Earl Bruce's teams beat them a couple times in the 1980's (both in Columbus).
- Tressel's team beat them in the 2010 Rose Bowl (2009 season).
- Urban's team beat them in the inaugural CFP CG at Jerry-world in 2015 (2014 season).
That makes 9-0:
- 5-0 in Columbus, Ohio
- 2-0 in Pasadena, California
- 1-0 in Eugene, Oregon
- 1-0 in Arlington, Texas
-
I think something must have been lost in translation, since your data supports my message 100%.
They don't scare me at all.

None of those Duck teams that OSU beat in the regular season went on to win the Rose Bowl.
Season
2014: OSU 42, UO 20 in the CFP NCG
2009: OSU 26, UO 17 in the Rose Bowl
1987: OSU 24, UO 14 in Columbus
1983: OSU 31, UO 6 in Columbus
1968: OSU 21, UO 6 in Columbus
1967: OSU 30, UO 0 in Eugene
1962: OSU 26, UO 7 in Columbus
1961: OSU 22, UO 12 in Columbus
1957: OSU 10, UO 7 in the Rose Bowl
In recent times, the Ducks are tough to beat in Eugene. OU curb-stomped them 68-3 in Norman in 1972. That OU team finished 11-1, beating Penn State in the Sugar Bowl, while the Ducks finished 4-7. OU upset the highly favored Ducks 17-14 in the 2005 Holiday Bowl. But, in the most blatantly stolen game that I have ever watched, the Ducks won 33-32 in Eugene in 2006. OU went on to win the Big 12 (despite losing to Texas) then lose to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, while Oregon finished 7-6 with a loss to BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl.
I don't think that Ohio State can go into Eugene and win on the basis of a 9-0 all-time record vs. the Ducks. Those Pac-12 zebras are still waiting to kick you in the teeth!

A lot different.
-
they have had trouble recruiting QBs?
-
Yes, Oregon is all flash and no smash. Even in their hey day they couldn't hang with the Buckeyes. In the meantime OSU has gotten quite a bit better, while Oregon has regressed.

The other game in Eugene was the first to be played in their current stadium.

I thought the Oregon team we saw in the Rose bowl was much more physical than their teams of the past.
-
Blount was pretty physical. He missed most of that season for sucker punching a Boise player.

Chase Young is gone.

I dunno, hopefully tOSU can replace this exodus but that's a tall order. At least Fields should be healthy heading into Oregon in September

LoL, I was about to respond to @847badgerfan (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=5) by noting that his post is probably a good candidate for least surprising development of the decade.
-
Bucks are in good shape up front. It's the back end that will have to replace a lot. Depth back there will be an issue.
-
Those Pac-12 zebras are still waiting to kick you in the teeth!
This. I've seen so many better teams head out west only to get hosed by the amateur refs in the Pac. This will be a win for Oregon, no matter how much better the Buckeyes are.
-
Oregon's no pushover, the Autzen crowd is really loud and enthusiastic, the stadium really holds the noise in, and there are those Pac-12 zebras. You've got to be more than just "better" than Oregon to win there.
-
I think they will use B10 refs. I figure the most important thing to have returning is QB, and then OL. A program like Ohio State will generally have running backs and wide outs aplenty, same with LBs and defensive backs and DLs. Usually. They can of course find lightning in one of those players.

Shaun Wade coming back. A big and surprising return.
like his choice, not just because it helps the team, but I think it was the best move for him. He can finish his degree, gain more experience and be a leader on a young squad on the back end. I think it will increase his success chances next year at the next level. I was listening to Lavar Arington on Speak for Yourself, and he provided so success rate numbers which shows that guys who stay and finish college tend to make a longer career in the NFL and be more successful during and after their playing days (they were discussing if Tua should stay or go). While guys like Chase Young, Bosa's, Zeke, etc. tend to be the prime focus and are successful as well, the majority of guys are not like that, and at that level, like he said, everyone is good.
-
I think a player who is a legit first rounder should go NFL (in general). Life is short, football is shorter. A lesser player might be advised to go if his family is in dire financial need and he won't graduate anyway.
http://www.tankathon.com/nfl/mock_draft (http://www.tankathon.com/nfl/mock_draft)
This had him going first in the second round. No RBs in the first round.

Second round and maybe not even that, which is why I like the choice. Its a gamble for sure with injury etc., but if he has a strong year, leads the young guys and produces, he will move up to a 1st rounder next year I think.
.

I have seen several mock drafts where he was a late first rounder. I think he wants to play outside, and win it all.

That's even worse for tOSU than using P10 refs.
-
That's even worse for tOSU than using P10 refs.
Why's that?
-
That's even worse for tOSU than using P10 refs.
I disagree. IMHO B1G refs seem to slant some calls to favor non-Buckeyes (mainly holding calls) but don't go so far as to "cheat". Again my opinion, Pac Refs will blatantly make mind baffling calls that absolutely alter the course of a game. When OSU's scoop and score got overturned, I joked are these Pac Refs?
OU/Oregon - onsides blunder.
Wisconsin vs. one of the Arizona schools, after the play the opponent runs over and falls bt himself on the ball for like 20 seconds to prevent Wisconsin from getting off a game winning field goal.
Cal - WSU - Calling penalties on the wrong team.
I won't go so far to say refs in other conferences are good, but man the Pac Refs are really bad.
-
OU/Oregon - onsides blunder.
3 or 4 plays later, OU got a pick that would have enabled the Sooners to close out the game. But DPI was called, and it was upheld even though the replay clearly showed that the ball had been tipped at the LoS.
That's the only game involving my team, or with my team on the receiving end of a bad call anyway, where I couldn't come up with a plausible explanation for how the zebras could have gotten it wrong.
Here's the video of the onside kick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btSGkMBrqI4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btSGkMBrqI4)
No Duck ever has control of the ball. The zebras cannot say who on Oregon's team recovered it.
#23 in white recovers the ball. I guess he should have made an ass of himself doing a choreographed celebration dance. Maybe that would have caught somebody's attention.
-
Why's that?
I will say that I don't really watch to many P10 games so most of my opinion is from watching B10 games. That said, IMHO B10 officials are horrendous. It may be some homerism on my part, but it seems that offensive holding calls always favor our opponent. But again, that may just be my Buckeye goggles clouding my view.

Now that I *THINK* all the NFL defections have been declared, here is a look at Ohio State's Offense heading into next year:
It appears that the Buckeyes will have six returning starters on offense and a total of 14 returning from the 2-deep. Going by position groups:
QB's:
Having a Heisman Finalist returning at QB is pretty much as good as it gets. The departure of his backup sets up a battle for the #2 (who will presumably be #1 in 2021) but shouldn't be a big issue.
RB's:
Obviously losing the School's single season rushing record-holder is not a good thing. IMHO, Teague is a decent back. He is very physical, so much so that I might actually prefer him over Dobbins in a 3rd and 1 situation but he lacks Dobbin's speed. In the CFP semi-final Dobbins had a 68 yard TD run and a 64 yard run that was oh-so-close to being another TD. Those were just run-of-the-mill plays but he beat one guy and had the speed to turn it into a LONG play. In those situations Teague would have been more likely to run for 20-30 yards due to having less speed in the open field.
WR's:
The Buckeyes are losing two out of three starters and three of the six in the two-deep. That said, WR is a position of depth at tOSU so this shouldn't be a major problem. Olave, Wilson, and Gill are a quality group and have seen plenty of playing time. The WR's should be fine next year.
TE's:
The starting JR and the backup SO are both back so this position should get better.
OL:
The Buckeyes are losing two out of five starters and three out of 10 from the 2-deep. At this position where youngsters rarely see the field let-alone start that isn't too bad.
Overall I think that tOSU's offense should be at least close to as effective in 2020 as it was in 2019.
-
Ohio State's Defense heading into next year:
The defense was hit harder than the offense by NFL defections, losing both standout DE Chase Young and standout CB Jeffrey Okudah. In total only four starters and 13 of the two-deep return. Going by position groups:
DL:
Obviously losing three out of four starters including Chase Young is a hit, but the Buckeyes seem to have recruited extremely well on the DL. DE should actually be a position of strength again. The bigger question, I think, is on the interior. The Buckeyes are not only losing both starters there, but one of the backups as well. Development of guys for these two positions will be a key for Ohio State next year.
Linbackers:
The Buckeyes return two out of three starters and four out of six from the two-deep so this should be a wash.
Defensive Backfield:
Losing three out of four starters is problematic but Shaun Wade's return should help dramatically (particularly if he can keep his head up and stay in games).
Overall I would predict a step back for the defense in 2020 but the Buckeyes were so good in 2019 that they could take a significant step back and still be REALLY good.
-
Are they losing both backup QBs? Gunner and Chugs?
-
Are they losing both backup QBs? Gunner and Chugs?
Keeping Gunner.
people don’t realize, what Ryan Day has done for his QBs......he has never had a returning starter.
i expect the o-line to be every bit as good.
the defensive line depends on the health and development of the tackles. Namely Tommy Togiai who would have played a ton this season but for a torn labrum. They say he is far and away the strongest player. Also...can Antwan Jackson develop into the 5 star prospect he was thought to be.
OSU is loaded with LBs and ends. How healthy can the DBs stay with Wade, Brown, Riep, Banks and Proctor as your primary group. Thin behind them.

Okay, Ryan Day, so you wanted to be a HC...
1- this isn’t some bungled sexual misconduct or something, it’s straight up rape.
2- both players are seniors...no, it’s not important, but this usually happens with younger guys before they’ve matured any, doesn’t it?

I don't know that there are any tough decisions here. They got charged and are suspended. Of note, they haven't been indicted, and there could be an issue where this charge is dismissed for a future indictment. But still, the tough decisions (IMO) are when there is some heinous accusation but no charges filed, leaving the coach to make a judgment call.

Also it will be interesting to see what steel chambers brings to the table given that he had offers from every major school including Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Auburn, etc.
-
OSU is obviously one program that will have elite skill level players routinely no matter who they lose with few exceptions. Even a "decent" RB should do well at OSU if he doesn't fumble much. Their season probably hinges on the Penn State game, but going 11-1 is still good enough so long as PSU loses two of course (if that is their one).
Maybe they stumble vs MSU or something, that shouldn't really matter.
Will they find another "game changer" on defense? Maybe.
-
Another thought is the transfer portal - what happens if the NCAA passes the transfer rule this spring? If Teague is done for the year then OSU is pretty thin at RB and I imagine would look pretty attractive to a few guys at other programs. Was listening to The Athletics' OSU podcast and they mentioned Jaret Patterson (Buffalo RB) who ran for 1800 yards as the type of guy who might just up and go if an opportunity came along. Interesting to ponder...
-
Yes, I think a good RB at a lesser program would leap at such a shot, even if he would share the load (or because of that).

"Rub some dirt on it!"

That is an odd story. Shot through both cheeks, and he doesn't call the police or seek medical attention?
"Rub some dirt on it!"
One of two things.
1. They found him quickly, and it would've been hard to talk to police with that kind of injury
2. He knows who shot him and doesn't totally want the circumstances out there.
-
I'd guess that he knows who shot him. A random mugger isn't going to target a dude that is 6'2" and 300 lbs of solid muscle that could kill him with one punch. There almost had to be a motive.
But a bullet through both cheeks that somehow missed his tongue and teeth?
-
That is an odd story. Shot through both cheeks, and he doesn't call the police or seek medical attention?
Actually shot through-and-through his cheek. I take it he was shot through one cheek, through-and-through, which I would imagine involves someone placing the gun in his mouth and shooting out, while hopefully not hitting anyone else with the bullet.
I am thinking alcohol is a factor at 12:28 a.m. on Sunday morning, and someone called it in from the scene of the shooting, rather than from where he was found as officers followed a trail of blood two blocks to find him. I am thinking there is one or more witnesses who called it in.

Not sure yet but the initial report was extremely weird - the cops found a shell casing and blood, and followed the blood to Haskell's apartment, to find he was shot in the face. ?
-
On the east side of High Street, Chittenden is basically the boundary between student housing and ghetto. So it isn't completely far fetched that some crazy pos tried to shoot him.
That's not far from where another D-Lineman supposedly crawled into a dumpster in order to shoot himself in 2014. Which of course was another bizarre story, where the given explanation was rather unsatisfactory.
Eureka! There must some sorta D-Lineman serial killer on the loose. Look into the guy that shot OSU DE Will Smith.
-
Hey, Buckeyes fans. I need some help.
Could you complete these lists. Even if you don't all agree, I could combine them.
If OSU did play this season, who would lead in these categories:
Rushing attempts:
1.
2.
3.
4.
(obviously Fields would be included)
Receptions:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
(including RBs, if applicable)
Number of sacks, from most to least:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Number of INTs, from most to least:
1.
2.
3.
4.
-
Hmm
RB carries - a little tough to say because Master Teague was the presumed starter but injured his Achilles. But people act like he's ready to play. So...
1. Trey Sermon
2. Master Teague
3. Justin Fields
4. Demario McCall
Receptions
1. Chris Olave
2. Garrett Wilson
3. Jameson Williams
4. Jeremy Ruckert
5. Trey Sermon
6. Julian Fleming
Sacks
1. Zach Harrison
2. Baron Browning
3. Jonathan Cooper
4. Tyreke Smith
INT
1. Josh Proctor
2. Shaun Wade
3. Sevyn Banks
4. Marcus Hooker

I'm relieved to hear Haskell Garrett is in stable condition. I'm also confused as to the circumstances surrounding this.
Interesting (to me) elevenwarriors comments are blaming Kevin Warren for this. (line of thought, when players aren't playing, and let to their own devices, poor decisions are made. case in point kid gets his cheeks shot off.)

I still don't understand how you get a clean shot off that goes cheek to cheek without some other serious damage being done. He is lucky he has his life after being shot in this manner.

Guy points gun at your head, you turn your neck a bit, goes into mouth and out cheek. Millimeters.
