Title: What will the final top-10 and top-25 look like?
Post by: medinabuckeye1 on December 31, 2019, 03:48:13 PM
Pre-bowl AP top-25 with results since:

I think the final top-10 will be:
After that it gets murky quickly because #7 - 12 have not played yet.

I think that Boise, USC, and OkSU will drop out.  That will be all so long as Navy and Cincy win.  Those three will likely be replaced by Washington, aTm and ?  Texas and KSU could end up ranked if they win.  Boise might not drop out but they certainly should.

Impacted too much by bowls, that's how it'll look.

The top 10 won't contain the Wolverines.

Top 25 will though.

I could see Oklahoma dropping like a rock.  Not only did they get mauled but the Big 12 had a terrible bowl season.  I think they are much more likely to finish around 10 than 4.

They might, in OUR rankings, but I think these voters are "conservative".  Folks generally thought OU was by far the weakest playoff team, and they were, but they were a playoff team.  They might drop to 6, perhaps.  Where would you rank them?

That's pretty good, but I think I'd slide Minnesota in there for Oklahoma or ND.

Minnesota definitely has a good argument to be top 10.

I might move Oregon further up since they have a very talented DL, but reality will be this:  no way the media will put PSU ahead of Florida.. now way.   SEC is the best conference... I don't disagree.  But unfortunately that also translates into more positive justification vs other conferences.   When it's a coin flip or close, SEC will get the benefit.    Which is where, I believe, most of the frustration lies...

My list is what I think the AP will do, not what I'd do personally of course.  I'd be delighted to get Minnesota into the top ten, but don't think they will jump that far up.

After all, Auburn didn't want to be there.

Should Penn State be ahead of Florida?  Maybe, it doesn't really matter much in reality.  If they played each other 100 times, one team would probably win 55 of them.

PSU has good wins at Iowa and vs Michigan, and pretty solid losses at Minny and OSU, plus a bowl win over Memphis.  Both played ten P5 teams.

Florida has a good win vs Auburn and decent losses at LSU and vs UGA and the bowl win.  BUT, they were ahead of PSU in the previous poll.

I would give an edge to Penn State myself.
