Iowa is pretty tough to hang with in their place.true. but a noon or 3:30 game at Kinnick is a lot different than a night game. If this was a night game, I'd give Iowa a much better shot at pulling the upset.
Yeah, I guess this is the final Saturday where a 3:30 kick isn't a de facto night game.Plus its a 2:30 CDT start in Iowa, about half a time zone west of Ohio.
Once that time changes on Sunday, we enter four months of eternal darkness.

I know the Michigan game last season was a 7pm kick, but it was still a great FG winner under the lights!
But if the game does go over 3.5 hours, the sun will be setting just in time for Iowa to kick one of those last minute game winning FG under the lights.
You know, the kind of game winning kick that Iowa likes to kick at home every now and then against a visiting top 5 team. Much like the 2008 game against #3 PSU, which was a 2:30 start.
Plus its a 2:30 CDT start in Iowa, about half a time zone west of Ohio.3:30 games that end in the dark are the greatest kick time in college football.

there might be enough whiskey in Texas to get me to play golf in the dark in November in NW Iowa, but someone else will be buyingIf you're golfin' in NW Iowa, then the Whisky isn't going to do you any good if it's in Texas. Unless you've gotta really long straw.
In 2017, is Iowa better than Ohio St?
Yes! Here's why:
First, on 2017/09/09, Iowa beat Iowa St 44 - 41 OT
Next, on 2017/10/07, Iowa St beat Oklahoma 38 - 31
Finally, on 2017/09/09, Oklahoma beat Ohio St 31 - 16

Hawks beat Cyclones who beat the Sooners. They played PSU who went tooth & nail with tOSU.I know you shouldn't factor in transitive properties but it's CFB and they are at homeOK where were we at?
Man, Gut feeling coming up:Welp, I got that one picked wrong. I'd call that a curb stomping. I really hate when the team I support gets embarrassed; '06 Florida, '17 Clemson, '17 OU, '17 Iowa. I'm seeing a nasty trend I do not like.
I'm thinking the Bucks roll this week, no let down by the D or O. I like the tune of 45-10, with the biggest play of the game coming at the end of the 1st quarter with a wave to the "real heroes" up on the 12th floor.
10) it had nothing to do with the outcome, but targeting on bosa? I can rip your knees off with a low blow but I can't tap heads, with no one even falling on ground and get ejected? It's no wonder there's empty seats in stadiumsLast week too, the face mask that extended a PSU drive. Both of those plays I don't think the play was malicious. They were both jumping and trying to make a play on the ball, but by the letter of the law committed a fowl. I don't like it, but I think they need to be called in order to continue to stop the detrimental effects of actual targeting hits and actual face mask grabs.
1) congrats Hawks, you totally outmanned us. Just knocked the crap out of usIf you told me b-4 the game OSU scores 24, I would have projected a 2-score win for Ohio State. So I was completely wrong about this too. I knew there was a very outside chance Iowa would actually pass on 1st down like every analyst all season said, and I was then saying, but finally, that's what Iowa did. You would think that from the 1st game they were aiming for Ohio St, but no. They just finally figured something out.
2) the trick play was fantastic , you didn't need it but still an awesome play
3) fake punt up 30? I don't blame you, urban does that kind of crap all the time, but what comes around goes around.
4) i have 8 tickets on sale for Indy
5) anyone still think urban is better than Saban? Dabo ? When's the last time those guys lost a game by 31? Let alone twice in 10 games
6) personally because of score, this ranks with me with most disappointing performances along with game cooper got extended right before kickoff against UM and we lost 38-3 or something and maybe the MSU loss with Germaine at QB just because it was so unexpected
7) another big loss, another game urban doesn't give the ball to a talented RB. Dobbins 6 carries 51 yards. Hyde, zeke, dobbins, all underutilized in big games.
8) Iowa tight ends are either NFL caliber or our defense sucks, I'm not sure which one is true.
9) 9 penalties for Ohio state, this is a weekLy occurrence, seems like a very undisciplined game. Is that coaching?
10) it had nothing to do with the outcome, but targeting on bosa? I can rip your knees off with a low blow but I can't tap heads, with no one even falling on ground and get ejected? It's no wonder there's empty seats in stadiums
Stanley for Heisman!FU Gerry Andersen for letting that kid leave the State of Wisconsin.
It wasn't a called fake, and Kirk was pissed about it.
3) fake punt up 30? I don't blame you, urban does that kind of crap all the time, but what comes around goes around.
what's up with the Buckeye defense?I think it is dangerous to judge Ohio State's Defense off of one game. They haven't been elite this year but they have been, overall, at least decent. For now at least, I think you have to view the Iowa game simply as an outlier. Prior to Saturday I didn't think Iowa was capable of scoring 50 points against anybody. Even if one is going to argue that Ohio State's defense is awful, they still aren't as awful as the 50+ that Iowa hung on them makes it look. Judging from Iowa's other games that would make Ohio State's defense the worst in the league by far and Ohio State's defense clearly isn't THAT bad.
I didn't expect them to be better than last year, because the secondary last year was ridiculous. but the best D line in OSU history was just obliterated, again.
and the linebackers are awful. they can't cover TEs, they don't diagnose plays very well. maybe it's time to let Tuf Borland get some more time. start working in some other guys.
JT obviously played awful, but to allow every Iowa call carrier to avg between 5.9 to 9.4 yards per carry is pretty inexcusable, considering Iowa was I believe the 10th ranked rushing offense in BIG 10 entering the game.
they gave their RB wadley 20 carries, which is smart, he's damn fine player. we gave dobbins 6 (1 in 2nd half). can anyone explain that to me?
It was perhaps the biggest defensive failure I've seen at OSU...ever? They have given up points before, but against good offensive teams. Iowa has not been good offensively. Frankly, OSU looked like they had never seen a team operate out of the I formation. Most of Iowa's first reads were wide open. The linebackers and safeties consistently failed to cover anyone. Nor could they slow down the run game. It was all bad all the time. That is the thing that still has me scratching my head. I said it upthread, but prior to Saturday I didn't think Iowa could score 50 points against anybody. After as dominant as the D was against Penn State, I'm baffled that they could look THAT bad against Iowa.
As far as Dobbins' lack of carries, for once there is a legitimate answer. For most of the second half we were playing from WAY behind and had to throw the ball. Still, only six carries makes no sense. You are right. Ohio State forced Iowa to punt on their first two drives of the second half. Running was still an option there and for that matter, if Ohio State's offense had been successful on those first drives of the second half it would have been a game.
well Urban said today that 6 carries is not enough, DUH.
but he also says Iowa took his option away forcing JT to run. in 6 of the last 7 losses for the Buckeyes the QB has ran the ball more than the NO1 RB option. if it's clear that the opposition is taking away the better runner, why has OSU no compensated for this yet?
I realize we were behind in the 2nd half as well, but if I remember correctly from my drunken stupor we stopped Iowa the first 2 drives, only down 14 points is not too much to totally abandon the run game.
