3:30 kick.  Iowa (Iowa!) in alternate unis.  Expect the under.

Iowa is pretty tough to hang with in their place.

I can't decide how this plays out.  On one hand, I think OSU will be comfortable taking what the Iowa defense gives them and moving the ball.  OTOH, they have been fairly middling in the red zone, and Iowa is comfortable in a bend don't break type of game.

Bucks roll, something like 38-14.  Iowa's defense is decent enough to give OSU fits, but they don't have any real strengths on offense, plus the punting/kicking game is a liability.  Iowa's only shot is to hope the passing game clicks enough, and they keep giving OSU consistently poor field position (I think they would score regardless if the field is 90 or 40 yards, but it takes much longer to march from the shadow of their own goalpost)

I think the Hawks are in trouble

not enough offense

but hoping for a low scoring close game and perhaps a big upset

true. but a noon or 3:30 game at Kinnick is a lot different than a night game. If this was a night game, I'd give Iowa a much better shot at pulling the upset.

Yeah, I guess this is the final Saturday where a 3:30 kick isn't a de facto night game.

Once that time changes on Sunday, we enter four months of eternal darkness.

It's hard to see Iowa scoring enough to keep this close.

Iowa's defense has to play lights out (possible) and they need to win the special teams (have you seen OSU's special teams?)

But if the Bucks stay motivated and come out to prove a point, then I think they win something like 40-13.

could be a horrible pick, this is really the bucks toughest road game to date

Plus its a 2:30 CDT start in Iowa, about half a time zone west of Ohio.

But if the game does go over 3.5 hours, the sun will be setting just in time for Iowa to kick one of those last minute game winning FG under the lights.

You know, the kind of game winning kick that Iowa likes to kick at home every now and then against a visiting top 5 team.  Much like the 2008 game against #3 PSU, which was a 2:30 start.

Iowa is certainly giving their fans a great entertainment value.  Four of their five B1G games and their ISU game have been decided by one score.  I do not think that will keep up this week.  The Buckeyes are rejuvenated and I think they will roll.

I know the Michigan game last season was a 7pm kick, but it was still a great FG winner under the lights!

3:30 games that end in the dark are the greatest kick time in college football.

I think some of my greatest memories fall into that time frame.

Granted, preferably October so you get the sun setting dusk lighting over the pitch black November lightning, but I'll take all of it

Although at times this defies logic, but Iowa is currently riding a 191-game streak without a shutout.

It's very possible that the streak ends this Saturday.

Hawks beat Cyclones who beat the Sooners. They played PSU who went tooth & nail with tOSU.I know you shouldn't factor in transitive properties but it's CFB and they are at home

Well... 2 things...
1) PSU this year already cracked that top 5 voodoo Iowa had been having, and
2) Good thing OSU is ranked 6th to avoid all the hub bub about a top 5 team in Kinnick stadium.

Yeah, I am not feeling it this time.  This just feels like OSU is going to blow out Iowa by 4 TD's.

Everybody knows Iowa can't score more than 17 points.  Once OSU scores its 3rd TD, ithe game's over.

there might be enough whiskey in Texas to get me to play golf in the dark in November in NW Iowa, but someone else will be buying
If you're golfin' in NW Iowa, then the Whisky isn't going to do you any good if it's in Texas. Unless you've gotta really long straw.
And who said anything about stopping in November? Those suckers shine through snow, amigo. You can hit the links after work all through the Winter months.
Well. So long as it's not raining, of course. That would just be crazy.

Man, Gut feeling coming up:

I'm thinking the Bucks roll this week, no let down by the D or O. I like the tune of 45-10, with the biggest play of the game coming at the end of the 1st quarter with a wave to the "real heroes" up on the 12th floor.

Three quarters into the game last week it looked like the story of the 2017 Ohio State Buckeyes was going to be of a team that rolled inferior competition, but laid an egg every time they faced a real foe. Instead, J.T. Barrett probably came up with his first signature moment since the Buckeyes 2014 win in East Lansing and now the Buckeyes control their own Big Ten title, and likely College Football Playoff destiny.  But ask Penn State, Iowa City is no fun.  While it won't be a true night game, like Penn State had to deal with, it should be close enough, and Hawkeye fans are happy to get some positive momentum after seizing Floyd back last weekend.  Iowa's defense has been good all year, but is playing absolutely lights out right now.  They allowed 35 points in the first 5 quarters of Big Ten play (28.0 ppg), but have allowed only 39 points in 15 regulation quarters since (10.4 ppg).  You want a tutorial on bend but don't break?  Iowa is 12th in the conference in total defense, at 389 ypg, but 2nd in scoring defense.  They've surrendered only 8 touchdowns, fewer than every school but Wisconsin...who is 2nd in total defense.  They haven't been tested like this though.  J.T. Barrett's performance on Saturday made the Silver Football suddenly a two man race.  Barrett is leading the conference at over 300 passing yards per game, while also leading in passing efficiency, thanks to a conference best 71.4% completion rate and an amazing 18-0 TD-INT ratio.  I don't think there is a quarterback in the nation, Baker Mayfield included, playing any better.  The Hawkeye defense is good, but that style isn't going to work 100% of the time.  You give up yards like that, and Ohio State will make you pay.  It also bears mentioning that the opponents during that 15 quarter streak were Michigan State, Illinois, Northwestern and Minnesota, not exactly an offensive juggernaut in the bunch.  Kinnick will be a factor, and I think we see the best Iowa offensive performance in weeks, but defensively I don't think Iowa forces enough three and outs to give their offense much to work with even when they do get stops.
OHIO STATE 34, IOWA 20

If Ohio State wins, it won't be by 17plus points.

Iowa at home, against a a top ten team...guaranteed :

Physical as hell
Slow the pace therefore speeding up the game
Give you few shots with the ball, especially in the red zone
Make you March the whole field
Bring at least a few wrinkles that are not anywhere on film- Ferentz always has a few for the Buckeyes.

In 2017, is Iowa better than Ohio St?

Yes!  Here's why:

First, on  2017/09/09, Iowa     beat Iowa St   44 - 41 OT
Next, on  2017/10/07, Iowa St  beat Oklahoma  38 - 31
Finally, on  2017/09/09, Oklahoma beat Ohio St   31 - 16

That previous poster is a moron. ;) The way I really see it is if it is a 5-3 or 6-4 game, Iowa has a real shot.

But, Iowa lost 2 out of its 3 games with 17-10 scores this season. I am thinking its 17-10, Ohio St.

Welp, I got that one picked wrong. I'd call that a curb stomping. I really hate when the team I support gets embarrassed; '06 Florida, '17 Clemson, '17 OU, '17 Iowa. I'm seeing a nasty trend I do not like.

Congrats to Iowa, they came to play. Excellent all around effort. I hope they do well the rest of the season.

OSU can still win the B1G, but not sure they will after that performance.

1) congrats Hawks, you totally outmanned us. Just knocked the crap out of us
2) the trick play was fantastic , you didn't need it but still an awesome play
3) fake punt up 30? I don't blame you, urban does that kind of crap all the time, but what comes around goes around.
4) i have 8 tickets on sale for Indy
5) anyone still think urban is better than Saban? Dabo ? When's the last time those guys lost a game by 31? Let alone twice in 10 games
6) personally because of score, this ranks with me with most disappointing performances along with game cooper got extended right before kickoff against UM and we lost 38-3 or something and maybe the MSU loss with Germaine at QB just because it was so unexpected
7) another big loss, another game urban doesn't give the ball to a talented RB. Dobbins 6 carries 51 yards. Hyde, zeke, dobbins, all underutilized in big games.
8) Iowa tight ends are either NFL caliber or our defense sucks, I'm not sure which one is true.
9) 9 penalties for Ohio state, this is a weekLy occurrence, seems like a very undisciplined game. Is that coaching?
10) it had nothing to do with the outcome, but targeting on bosa? I can rip your knees off with a low blow but I can't tap heads, with no one even falling on ground and get ejected? It's no wonder there's empty seats in stadiums

Last week too, the face mask that extended a PSU drive. Both of those plays I don't think the play was malicious. They were both jumping and trying to make a play on the ball, but by the letter of the law committed a fowl. I don't like it, but I think they need to be called in order to continue to stop the detrimental effects of actual targeting hits and actual face mask grabs.

If you told me b-4 the game OSU scores 24, I would have projected a 2-score win for Ohio State. So I was completely wrong about this too. I knew there was a very outside chance Iowa would actually pass on 1st down like every analyst all season said, and I was then saying, but finally, that's what Iowa did. You would think that from the 1st game they were aiming for Ohio St, but no. They just finally figured something out.
3) fake punt: Fake punt from the 30???? Weird formation. Stuff we would do in high school JV games. Not varsity. I just wish the long snapper didn't lose his feet. He deserved to score.
4) Tickets: Sorry. Wish I could
6) Don't whine here. This is the worst overall series IOWA has. It is like we are playing Russia, except they win all the time.
8) Iowa is Tight End-U. Over the past 38 years has produced NFL tight ends. Iowa has 4 good tight ends now. Noah Fant is ready for the NFL.
10) Not intentional, but it is what it is, and we are teaching better technique so as to avoid injury by enforcing the rule irrespective of intent. Correct call.
----
Here I was hoping the Hawkeyes could hold Ohio St to 3 or 4 points so iowa had a chance to win.

Damn shame a 5th yr QB constantly throws behind receivers.More alarming is staring them down then throwing into double coverage.3 of his 4 picks were tossed into the teeth of it.John Elway/Tom Brady couldn't complete those passes.I can live with the lack of arm strength. His 1st 2 pix into DC,timing & decisions did not reflect a 5th yr sr.The coaching failed and the "D" mailed it in in the 2nd half also but tOSU needed an experienced field general.

One of the most shocking scores I have ever seen:

I wouldn't have been shocked by Iowa winning but, if I had missed the game and you told me that Iowa won I would have guessed something in the range of 17-10 to 27-10.  Prior to yesterday I didn't think Iowa could score 50 points against air.  Where did that offense come from?

It wasn't a called fake, and Kirk was pissed about it.

I'm guessing when they run that rugby style punt, the punter has the green light if the numbers are there. And the numbers were there, one missed block from going for 20+ yards.

That said, there's a time and a place.

Iowa play-by-play guy, Gary Dolphin, asked Kirk about it in the post-game show...
Dolph: "You at least have to like a punter with a little imagination, don't ya?"
KirK: "Not necessarily, no."

what's up with the Buckeye defense?

I didn't expect them to be better than last year, because the secondary last year was ridiculous. but the best D line in OSU history was just obliterated, again.

and the linebackers are awful. they can't cover TEs, they don't diagnose plays very well. maybe it's time to let Tuf Borland get some more time. start working in some other guys.

JT obviously played awful, but to allow every Iowa call carrier to avg between 5.9 to 9.4 yards per carry is pretty inexcusable, considering Iowa was I believe the 10th ranked rushing offense in BIG 10 entering the game.

they gave their RB wadley 20 carries, which is smart, he's damn fine player. we gave dobbins 6 (1 in 2nd half). can anyone explain that to me?

I think it is dangerous to judge Ohio State's Defense off of one game.  They haven't been elite this year but they have been, overall, at least decent.  For now at least, I think you have to view the Iowa game simply as an outlier.  Prior to Saturday I didn't think Iowa was capable of scoring 50 points against anybody.  Even if one is going to argue that Ohio State's defense is awful, they still aren't as awful as the 50+ that Iowa hung on them makes it look.  Judging from Iowa's other games that would make Ohio State's defense the worst in the league by far and Ohio State's defense clearly isn't THAT bad.
As far as Dobbins' lack of carries, for once there is a legitimate answer.  For most of the second half we were playing from WAY behind and had to throw the ball.  Still, only six carries makes no sense.

It was perhaps the biggest defensive failure I've seen at OSU...ever?  They have given up points before, but against good offensive teams.  Iowa has not been good offensively.  Frankly, OSU looked like they had never seen a team operate out of the I formation.  Most of Iowa's first reads were wide open.  The linebackers and safeties consistently failed to cover anyone.  Nor could they slow down the run game.  It was all bad all the time.

well Urban said today that 6 carries is not enough, DUH.

but he also says Iowa took his option away forcing JT to run. in 6 of the last 7 losses for the Buckeyes the QB has ran the ball more than the NO1 RB option. if it's clear that the opposition is taking away the better runner, why has OSU no compensated for this yet?

I realize we were behind in the 2nd half as well, but if I remember correctly from my drunken stupor we stopped Iowa the first 2 drives, only down 14 points is not too much to totally abandon the run game.

You are right.  Ohio State forced Iowa to punt on their first two drives of the second half.  Running was still an option there and for that matter, if Ohio State's offense had been successful on those first drives of the second half it would have been a game.
Ohio State started the second half with three consecutive three-and-outs and then it actually got WORSE with back-to-back drives ending in interceptions after Iowa had forced Ohio State to throw by taking a 31 point lead.
First Ohio State second half possession (after holding Iowa to a three-and-out to open the half):
Second Ohio State second half possession (after forcing a punt):
Third Ohio State second half possession (after an Iowa TD on the odd formation 4th down conversion drive):
