Tough game. A defensive struggle, really. The two best defenses in the Big 12 slugged it out.
Good game, Bears! You have had a great year. Win your bowl game.
For the Sooners, it's the 10th win in 11 CCG appearances. It's the 5th Big 12 championship in a row and 13th overall in the 24-year history of the conference.
-
So I’m guessing that since UGa is getting smoked by LSU OU will be in the CFP? Would love to see them and LSU play in round 1. Jalen Hurts vs Joe Burrow.
Clemson hasn’t gotten much press this year but they’re in if they win.
-
It's not happening, but I'd love to see Virginia beat Clemson. That would present the Committee with a conundrum.
-
Wait...so if not OU then who are the 4 teams? LSU, OSU, Clemson, and ???
OU was 5th I believe. UGa was 4th.
-
The conundrum I was thinking about would have been whether to keep Clemson in the top 4.
But Clemson is waxing UVA, so it is a moot point.
-
Congrats to the Sooners. OU's not going to get any respect from the mediots and committee for playing a full roundrobin and 9 conference games plus CCG, so they'll likely get slotted at #4 which is a tough row to hoe. I'd like their chances against Clemson but I don't think they'd beat tOSU or LSU.
Anyway, good luck in the CFP.
-
I will throw in that I think, if OU does play LSU, the Sooners are going to score a lot of points and the game would be a shootout. And when the score swells, it starts to become an "anything can happen" kind of scenario.

That's about what I've been thinking about a matchup with LSU. At the very least, LSU is deeper than OU at critical positions, but in a shootout, strange things can happen.
-
My two cents says Sooners would beat Clemson or Ohio St but fall short against LSU
but hey thats why they play the game
boomer sooner
-
"That's why they play the game."
Truer words were never spoken, 320.
-
Well looks like it is LSU v OU in the CFP. Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
OSU and Clemson tee it up as well.
Should be good games.
-
The Sooners' best advantage against LSU is that they're on familiar territory. LSU is basically another Big 12 team style-wise. They play "hit you everywhere at every position every play" offense, and good-enough defense.
The downside is that the Big 12 has previously won, played for, and threatened to win MNC's with that blueprint.
-
What are you guys smoking?
I'll take LSU(-21)
-
LSU has a very good ground game and for OU to win they will have to stop it
One thing OU has going for it is the Heisman curse

I do think we have the 3 best teams in the playoff. The thing is, we had to scramble thru unexpected outcomes to dredge up a 4th contender, and that happened to be OU. But they are not in the same league as the other 3. They're really only 50% a team.

Just curious. Have you watched any of the OU games since the K-State loss?
I'm not saying OU is going to beat LSU. The point spread seems reasonable to me. But the notion spouted by the uninformed that OU has no defense is just false.
Or am I misreading you, and you are asserting that OU has no offense?
-
I'm guessing it's just a hook'em horn thing
-
Or a "don't confuse me with any actual evidence" thing.
-

OU has a defense. A defense that has no business on the field with the other three contenders. That will bare itself out in quick time.
As far as offense, I think Hurts has done a lot of the damage with that Sunday afternoon jog that he has, which always seemed to go for about 20+ yards in the Big XII. It won't work against the big dogs. True, that leaves a salty RB and that hot shot WR. But a QB who is not necessarily a dead eye passer.
There is no remaining team in CFB that merits matching up against the other three. Including OU.

Not a Horn thing because I don't agree with him. *shrug*

It's amazing how, in college ball, players who couldn't do much by themselves can assemble to be greater than their sum.
CeeDee Lamb is that player for OU's offense. Jalen Hurts is an adequate QB by himself. However, without Lamb (and to be fair, without Calceterra and about 4 starting RBs and an OT), he becomes a pedestrian running threat who turns the ball over more often than is acceptable. However, any time Lamb is on the field, OU's offense becomes capable of an immediate TD because he's almost impossible to tackle. He pulls the defense far enough out of sync that running lanes for the QB opens up.
OU absolutely has a good defense. LSU's offense will look a lot like Texas' did. They have seen it before (but LSU's is obviously better).
This isn't a 5 game series. If you think that OU only has a 20% chance to win this game, then that 20% win probability only has to occur on the first game.

yes, but you're not a typical Horn. You're a thinking logical type.
not the hate everything about Sooners type

Texas went 7-5 this season. The "typical Horn fan" thinks that there's no point in continuing the program any longer. We concede that all our opponents, even the ones that don't have a football team, are all vastly superior to our own. Everyone who has ever uttered the word "football" at the University of Texas is incompetent, deluded, and devoid of capability in every aspect.

Hey, how DARE you accuse me of not hating everything about sooners??? Them's fighting words!

Oh no you don't! You can't say OU has 50% of a team and then reasonably say that what you meant by that was some reasoned analysis that OU's defense isn't good enough to stop the 3 best teams in CFB.
There is no remaining team in CFB that merits matching up against the other three. Including OU.
Maybe that's true. But North Carolina matched up pretty well against Clemson. If UNC had made a 2-point conversion, Clemson would be a 1-loss team with its loss being worse than OU's. And Texas seemed to match up pretty well against LSU.
I'm not predicting an OU win. But each of those three teams could be beaten on the right day by a team that "has no business on the field" with it.

OU has 75% of an offense and 25% of a defense. Hence 50% of a team.
Big XII defensive stats be hanged.
-
And Texas seemed to match up pretty well against LSU.
Texas was physically and mentally in a different place before that game. On a smaller scale, Texas losing that game had the same effect as losing the 2008 NC. We went south.

Your story continues to change.

Oh Hooky where are you. Bunched underwear all up in here.

I'm not bunched at all. I *shrugged*. :)
We don't all have to agree. But it's certainly not a "Horn" thing. We're individuals and think differently. That's okay. It's actually a GOOD thing.

Was Barbara Billingsley a Horn?

Because “thinking, logical” Horns thought OU had a chance?
Funny world you live in.

Hey, can't say I'm sorry to see the Sooners faceplant. :)
