My favorite as well.  We're having lamb chops tonight and traditional tomorrow for just the two of us.  I have some nice wines selected, one rose' from Sonoma that is almost white, they gave it only 2-3 hours of skin contact (made from pinot noir).

I have a bottle of "real" Champagne as well (which is made from some blend of chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier, on occasion only the red varietals).

I hope no one gets in this looming travel mess and no one argues politics and gets mad.

Pretty sure I know what my wife will be thankful for... I let her know on Monday this week that we can get a puppy :)

Heck... Pretty sure that's what I'm thankful for as well.

The wife walked to the park with me (and largely sat) while I ran a bit.  It was 71°F and sunny.  We were both thankful.

I'm thankful for hot water, a nice bed, a great wife and kids, enough food to eat, being retired, living here, a whole bunch of things.

Happy to all.

Limo comes tomorrow at 4:45 AM. Off to AZ to see Mrs. 847's AZ family.

Hoping to meet up with Frog Face @DevilFroggy (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=35)  and 'Fro  @OrangeAfroMan (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=58)  while there, but when the Mrs. that brought up to her P's, it did not go over to well with the outlaws. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving.  Mine will be quiet as the hubby has to work and while my youngest son is with us this year, my other two are in Wyoming and Kentucky, so too far away for any visit or grandkids to spoil.  My sister and I will probably spend the day playing Quiddler and Yahtzee, and I will make my usual turkey meal and save a plate for the hard working man I love.  At least he gets Christmas Day off.

I am so very thankful that my mother has weathered her latest health scare, everyone else is fairly healthy, no blizzard on the horizon and while my Huskers have struggled this year, at least we won the one game I did attend (Northwestern).  I guess you can blame my non-attendance for the losses, lol.

Happy Thanksgiving! I tried to spatchcock a mostly frozen turkey last night.  It did not go well.  In other news, going to add soy sauce and fish sauce to the gravy today.  Let's see if my family kills me.

My FB page pulled up some photos from last year when Daughter 1 was visiting.  It was a beautiful day then and is going to be one again this year, but my daughter is visiting over Christmas instead.  I'm very thankful my wife is up and about again.  She did the dishes last night on her own (I told her not to).  She told me she really doesn't like being "taken care of".  I on the other hand ....

I grilled some lamb chops to perfection, she told me it was her favorite meat item.  Also had Brussell sprouts which did not come from Belgium.

I'd rather cook than clean up after.

I love that tune and the story behind it,there is a station here in Cleveland that has been playing it for over 30 yrs a Turkey Day Tradition

There were mother rapers and father stabbers and father rapers in there,"and they asked me kid what are you in here for",'and i said littering and they all moved away from me and then i said creating a nuisance and public disturbance and the they all move right  back" - Classic, thanx for the reminder

One of the best ways to get the different meats to cook evenly by putting the dark meat a little closer to heat source.I've never done it but Alton Brown and the MIT grad on Serious Eats both use/recommend

Is anyone doing anything non-traditional for dinner?  When do you usually dine?

When I was a kid, we'd eat around 4 PM.  There was some distinction between "supper" and "dinner", but now I don't recall the difference.  It was an odd time to have a large repast, I think we barely had lunch or ate a late breakfast.  I probably didn't get out of bed until noon anyway.

I think we always had turkey, and ham for Christmas (I suppose to prove we weren't Jewish or something?).

We only ate beef, chicken, or pork at home 99% of the time.  In France, I've never seen pork on the menu (outside Alsace), and rarely see chicken at restaurants.  Their beef is not good in my experience.  My step son makes a huge dinner over there and invites about 30 neighbors.  I went with him the year before to get the turkeys, they were 80 euros each, he had to order them.  It's not a holiday over there of course.

twas the Live rendition on youtube - about 25 minutes

the next thing up was Robin Williams on Carson w/ Jonathan Winters 1991 -random, but hilarious

so, what the heck do the French eat if beef is not good and there's no chicken or pork?  Seafood for all???

A lot of fish and seafood, but also duck and lamb, rabbit and veal.  If you see pork or chicken on the menu of a US French-style restaurant, it's been Americanized, which is not always bad.  Our local French place menu is below.  This is somewhat Americanized but still mostly real French.  (The owners are French.)  It's a nice place, we think, and a bit hidden so it's not massively over priced.  People go there for the atmosphere.

T (http://www.atmospherebistro.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Dinner-Menu-Click-Here-1.pdf)he term "entree" in French is the appetizer, the ENTRY to the meal.  Julia Childs I'm told changed this somehow.

The other confusing thing is seeing the term "menu" at a place like McDonalds, which in that context means "Combo meal".  Bistros will have "menu items" which are 2-3 course meals.

I'd be ok, I enjoy duck and lamb, rabbit and veal.  As you know, some "Americans" would need to do some adjusting of thoughts.

I enjoy French places and the good food.  Especially the sauces.

Thanks, Fearless.  Best part of having my son here is that we have not seen him for ten years after he moved to Alaska (except for my father's funeral in 2011).  Thank goodness for Facebook or I wouldn't have recognized him when I picked him up at the airport, lol. I'll be sad to see him leave when he finds his own place to live; just glad he will be in the same city for a change.

Thank you for the blessing on my mom.  It's hard to see her fading away with heart troubles and Alzheimer's.  She will be 90 years old next year so we are glad we've had her this long.

Gotta blame something on the poor season, lol.  Might as well be me.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Preliminary dinner at sister’s last night. Next up another dinner with Dad out in the country at a longtime family friend’s who are more than glad to host us given how a few of their grown children can’t make the trip back to the nest this year. Heading out to visit Mom’s grave before buying some spiked eggnog and heading over. Even though it’s Arizona, pretty cold and rainy all week.

The only non-traditional thing on the menu today is a filet mignon for my wife...

...but that's because she's allergic to poultry. She's still roasting a 13# turkey for the rest of us lol.

With today's weather, I might sous vide the filet and then sear it in cast iron. It's pouring.

I did sous vide the whole beef tenderloin tonight.  Damn, it was good.   Port wine sauce with it.
We did have gravy for the turkey breast I put on the BGE.
Nice Egg Bowl tonight.

FYI, the Costco turkey was delicious, probably the best I've ever had.  It came as a package, a large breast with taters and beans (which were not good) and cranberry and stuffing for $26.52.  The wife really liked it.  I was semi-amazed.

The new stove has a temperature probe in the oven which is nice to have.

"Supper" once meant the evening meal, while "dinner" meant the largest meal of the day, whether it was served at noontime or in the evening.
Supposedly, WWII was the beginning of the end of this usage, as the U.S. military called meals "breakfast," "lunch," and "dinner," and the GI's came home from the war with that understanding.
