Title: World's Largest Outdoor Whatever it is
Post by: Cincydawg on October 28, 2019, 04:05:09 AM
I guess no one drinks any more, cocktails or otherwise.  The term "Cocktail" is a bit bizarre anyway, reminds me of that sugary canned fruit concoction.

Both teams have pretty good defenses.  The UGA offense has gone into hiding of late, I think in large part because their young WRs cannot get open.  USCe used press coverage and pressure and nobody got very open against USCe, and UF has better defenders.  I was almost shocked to see the line, maybe UGA fans bet more than UF fans.  If I were betting, I'd definitely take UF here and the points (6-7).  IN fact, I think UF wins comfortably, something like 27-16.  AS usual, turn overs could be decisive, and as usual, the score might not indicate the closeness, or lack thereof, of the game.  I don't know if this matchup generates more upsets than others, but it seems like it to me, both sides have at times knocked the other off a loftier perch.

In this case, UF is ranked higher, but is the dog, go figure.  I think UGA ends up 9-3 this season, a disappointment for sure, and makes the Citrus Bowl against say Michigan, which could be a good game.

Congrats to OAM on the victory.

Sandbagger.

I'll be watching this one at the lake house of a huge UGA fan.  I can't tell whether he really wanted me over to watch the game, or whether he just wanted to impress me that he has a lake house.

Don't care.  Sam Rayburn lake is nice this time of year and we're off Saturday.  Might do some grilling.

Is this the game UGA finally allows a rushing TD?  No TDs allowed on the ground is pretty awesome after 7 games.

Probably not...Florida only runs to keep the defense from lining up in a 5-2.

I think UGA is closer to the preseason squad than the one that lost to USCe.  They're favored for a reason.  However, if the DEs for Florida are healthy, this should be an even matchup.

I'm just stoked that Florida is a top 10 team again, playing for something important in November.

If you press the UGA WRs, they won't get open (much).  Then blitz Fromm and get him dancing.  Stuff the run game as much as possible.  Recipe.

As noted, last year's game was closer than the score indicated.  The TO margin was 3-0 favoring UGA.

Georgia finished with 189 yards rushing, including 80 in the fourth quarter. Florida had 170 on the ground. It's the 13th consecutive year that the team with more rushing yards won the game.

Georgia has about a 99% chance to rush for more yards, but Florida doesn't expect to win that battle and play-calls accordingly.

Yeah, the objective is not to get more rushing yards.  That would be just a product of getting ahead by a decent amount and running clock often as not.

It's a silly statistic really IMHO.

I'd probably run the ball on every down were I UGA, but I'm olde schule.

They did that against Kentucky.

Just about, it was raining a bit.

I don't have a literal "Gator Hater" t-shirt, but if I wear my normal LSU gear Saturday, does that pretty much count?

Way up high on my bucket list of football games to attend in person.

Forget grilling.  Way too cold for that.  Saturday is looking to be gumbo weather.

Whoever wins the turnover battle will likely get the W, if either side does.

The 'no open container' thing is the cool part.  Plenty of police presence between The Landing (where many congregate) and the stadium, but you just stroll by with drinks in hand.

Huh, I really though the Gators would win this one, and they hung in there and made it close.  Some of the ref calls were pretty bad both ways.

I think UGA dominated many statistical categories like TOP, and zero TOs in the game, which is unusual.

Meh.  We didn't deserve to win.  Hate that the difference was a wide-open play.  This game was sort of like a Lennox Lewis title fight - UGA just jabbing away, not needing to take any risks, because it would be the only way Florida could come back and win.  They earned it.

Odd that in the LSU game, Mullen kept running the ball 'enough', knowing it wasn't going to yield any meaningful yardage.  But today, he didn't really do that until the last scoring drive.  Florida abandoned the run, so UGA's defense had no reason to stay honest.  Weird.

Maybe he didn't trust the defense to keep us in the game?

Obviously, one turnover going UF's way might decide that game otherwise (maybe 2).  Getting off the field on 3rd down is akin to half a TO and the UF defense struggled to do that.  They mounted a 4th quarter come back that was insufficient and Fromm made enough throws to win it, but one score.

I was a bit surprised UGA couldn't run the ball more effectively, I guess both D's were selling out to stop the run to an extent.  The return of Cager from the UGA injury list was obviously large.

One advantage UF has in the East race is one more win, so one fewer games, and they play Vandy and @ Mizzou.

UGA faces Mizzou and A&M and at Auburn, so they have to win 2 of those 3 if UF wins out (which seems likely, Mizzou curse not this year I think).

Auburn at home is a tougher draw of course and Nix plays better at home, and their defense is legit.  I think they can play as well on D as Florida, if not better, and Fromm might not get so many 3rd down conversions obviously.  Turnovers, again.  UGA "should" beat Mizzou and A&M at home, but UGA is still not the powerhouse team IMHO they were thought to be preseason and upsets are certainly possible.

Of course, if UGA loses twice and a two loss Florida gets to Atlanta, it could be a dubious distinction against either LSU or Bama, though Florida competed with LSU on the road, so maybe.

Georgia better not play like they did against Florida if they want to win out.  We played horribly and only lost by 7.

Trask continues to be better than I think most people probably expected.  I only halfway joked earlier this year that Florida would improve by virtue of Franks' injury, but that really has been the case.

I was surprised how good UF looked against the run most of the day without committing more help than they did.  Those big boys for UGA weren't getting the push their 326 lb average would suggest.

....I don't know what constitutes holding anymore from offensive tackles.  After this game and LSU/Auburn last weekend, I think the zebras roll dice, 1-3 is a flag, 4-6 is no flag.

Actually, penalties are on a 20-sided dice in Whoa Nellie College Football Game.  (shameless plug)

TWENTY?!?

You're never gonna sell a game in the South if it involves numbers higher than your target customers can count.

I wonder if the Dawgs are "doomed" to having one really ugly game in each regular season that colors our perceptions of the team.

Funny you say that.....my sales have been strong in the rockies, the midwest and the northeast.  Barely a sniff from the southeast.

I have been pondering "what's wrong with Florida" after watching some of the game again, and my answer is "really not much".  They compete, it wasn't a blow out obviously.  They stopped the run.  They needed 2-3 breaks.  UGA caught one break on the dropped pass.

Obviously, their OL could use an upgrade, and Trask is not the best QB in the league.  I have no clue where their recruiting is right now, but I think they will remain "significant" in the SEC East for years to come with Mullen.
