Title: And They Will Look to the Chryst to Save Them (SOC 10-26-19)
Post by: MaximumSam on October 26, 2019, 06:32:53 AM
Up early because my gosh darn dogs wouldn't stop barking. They are, of course, my wife's dogs, and she promised I'd never have to do much of anything when we got them.  So of course she is knocked out asleep and I'm up sipping coffee after letting them out and feeding them.  It's really the compromises that make a marriage work.

It's supposed to be a wet one today in Columbus.  My wife has to work.  I'm gonna try to unload the kids to the neighbors and enjoy what should be a great day of football.

Work assignment. Too secret locale. :67:

Also, wondering if UW can get a moral victory of some sort today. Not sure how that would look.

At least Navy-Tulane should be fire.

Wiscy at OSU, FOX: Well duh.  This will probably be on all the TV's in the house and my kids will whine and moan and ask why I have to have football on in every room.  And I'll tell them it's their birthright and then they will whine some more.  In any event, yes, I'm looking forward to this game and OSU play a legit good team that will punish them for making mistakes.

Oklahoma at Kansas State, ABC: Since this will also air on the freewaves, I might flip over here and there. KSU has been a little punchy under Chris Klieman, and maybe, just they'll have something for the Sooners.  Also, Gameday is doing Klieman's former team, NDSU, as they visit SDSU.  Could be a connection.

Iowa at NW, ESPN2: So let's see, two limited offenses squaring off against two good defenses in the cold rain?  Sign me up!

Appy State at South Alabama, ESPNU: Appy State is undefeated and if they beat Michigan this year not sure it would even be an upset.  You might say that Michigan losing to Appy State set both programs on opposite paths.  I wonder if they still show that clip of Michigan getting their field goal blocked during Appy State games?  Gotta tune in to find out.

Illinois at Purdue, BTN: Actually quite intrigued by this game?  Illinois seems destined to lose, as that's what they normally do and they've probably been drunk all week and can't play defense even when sober, except against Wisconsin.  But still, Illinois can theoretically go to a bowl game.

Liberty at Rutgers, BTN: Is Hugh Freeze out of the hospital?  Is there any reason to watch this game?  How bad can Rutgers be?

Miss. State at Texas A&M, SECN: Mostly wanting to see the Bulldogs fail so that Joe Moorhead can end up at Rutgers.  That is my secret dream.

I'm going to decide you are going to Area 51.  To watch football with aliens and show them our ways.

Coffee is wonderful.  You take this bean like thing from a tropical plant, let it sit, then heat it for a while, then grind it to a powder, and soak it in hot water.

Out comes this unattractive brown liquid that really doesn't taste that good and is wonderful.

I still don't understand Starbucks.

Starbucks? Yeah, I don't get it. People will pay $3 for something they could make at home for $0.10.

And there are companies out there getting $7 for a loaf of bread too.

People are drawn in easily.

Beautiful morning in the greatest Twin Cities in the world. 55, sunny, a goregeous fall day.

I made it through yesterday's PE exam. Hopefully, in 6 to 8 weeks, I get confirmation from NCEES that I don't need to do that again.

How's your head feeling? I remember taking those exams. Going in, I figured I'd get out and do some partying afterward.

Nope. All I could do was think about my head hitting the pillow. And my head was so big, I could barely get it in the car to drive home.

EIT was the worst for that.

I'm glad we had no equivalent to the PE exams.  The Final Oral Exam was "in the bag", or should be.

The Preliminary Oral Exam in year 2 was where chalk met leather, or whatever you say.

Ditto on the spaghetti.   It’s the one thing I make that is a true family recipe, being more than 50% Italian.

Its one one of those deals where everyone who tastes it wants to make it- yet it is incredibly simple

I used to eat spaghetti Mon-Tue-Wed.  On Thursday I'd turn it into chili.

That would finish the pot.  On Friday I'd dine at the restaurant in which I had a small interest.

The wife like spaghetti, but not every day she says.  Huh.

I actually walked out of there not nearly as brain dead as I did leaving the EIT exam. I managed to go to Costco and home before I completely unwound from the test.

Heading down to the East River Flats soon. We're limited to parking on the pavement, but we can set up the buckets, tents, grills, etc. on the grass.

The weasels leaving a big, steaming, red turd on the turf in Champaign last week took a lot of the luster off that game. But it's the possibility of the first Gopher win over the weasels in Minneapolis since before I was of legal drinking age.

Yeah, I'm not doing the pasta homemade today, but I do love it. We took our classes in Florence - Fall of 2017 and another one this past May. I'm using dry pasta I bought in Rome for today's meal.

My wife's in charge of that. We (more she) learned at this little place in Tuscany, near Florence. Her starter is not as old as his was (150 years, he claimed). But she makes some mean bread.

I don’t understand why Ohio State is so bent on establishing Dobbins as a rushing attack. They ran him on 2nd & 18 back there when it seemed like a sure chance to throw on both 2nd AND 3rd & Long. Buckeyes strength is the passing attack and they aren’t using it as a weapon.

Wife decided that going out for a "fancy" date where she has to get all dressed up isn't in the cards. Especially since it's in Laguna Beach, which might be a serious sh!tshow for traffic and parking.

So we might just go out for a casual meal, or we might hit the specialty butcher, get a really nice steak, and open up one of our nicer bottles of wine. Either option wouldn't bother me a bit.

Pitt chokes away game against Miami, giving up long drive to Hurricanes late in 4th, losing 16-12. And Pitt also gives up its first chance at a 5 game win streak since 2009. For as long as I’ve watched Pitt they’ve never been able to take advantage of any momentum they find themselves on the better side of. 5-3 when they should be 6-2 and expecting a Top 25 ranking.

Might as well phone an OSU/UW post in.

Wow. What an awesome game!

So Playing Jump around in the 4th, seemed like a pretty big troll.

Dobbins stiff arming Orr to the ground for a 30 yard scamper seemed to kinda break Badger spirit. He went untouched for a TD (3 score lead) on the next play.

I thought Meyer was gonna watch the game from an undisclosed location; they had him on the Jumbo tron just grinning.

Everyone else uses two players on Chase Young. Wisconsin seemed to stubbornly not do that; and he wrecked havoc in the back field.

Quote
Wisconsin is the real deal and should be considered the top of the conference.  OSU will give them a good test but its clear so far without injuries Wisconsin will win that game on the 26th

What's clear is OSU and Wisconsin have performed the best on the field through the first half of the season.
What's also clear is both teams need to take care of business next week to make Benthere2's statement bare any weight.

To date OSU and Wisconsin have the top two Running backs in the league.
I think OSU D line is a bit better, I think Wisconsin's O line is amazing. Strength on strength battle there.
OSU QB is a bit more dynamic.
Playing the game in the Shoe will be an advantage for OSU.
I think it will come down to line play; can OSU O line play well enough for the dynamic players to make an impact, Can Wisconsin's O line play well enough to keep the chains moving. And momentum plays, big stops, turnovers, 20+ yard gains.

All that to say, if the 2 best teams in the league can hold serve next week, the game in two weeks should be amazing. But, I don't think we can clearly say Wisconsin will win.

How much has changed in the last 2 weeks?

Not much should be done about it. Students are under a lot pressure and the student section is one of the better ways to blow off steam vice alcohol, parties, etc. Whatever powers that be who are fussing about student sections should take an afternoon at an NFL game. The behavior I’ve stood amidst at NFL games is measurably more vulgar than anything I’ve witnessed at college games.

From what I can tell, they can't get in very fast, and security would rather throw them out than give them the time of day.

They can't expect to get to their seats on time when they show up at the gate with 5 minutes to go before the kick. Getting blasted is clearly the priority for them. I'd say take away a couple of sections and let lower income people buy the tickets for the student price.

Yep, probably. Maybe go after someone on the OSU staff, or possibly bring Nards back?? Matt Campbell? How about Les Miles? It'd be humorous to see Miles beat Harbs.

man this is a true beat down. 38-7, probably would be 38-0 if not for that bs PI on Hudson.

Have to think just how big that drop from Ronnie Bell was last week. If he hangs onto that and Michigan forces OT good chance they would’ve pulled the W out.

Imagine them coming off a comeback win in Happy Valley at night and then beating the snot out of ND the next week. They’d have been a top 8 team and Harbaugh would have all that white hot heat off his seat.

Unfortunately....that is likely the case.  However....they have been making a push to get to campuses that they have never been to.  Ames (Iowa State) got their first Gameday this year.  Alabama and LSU basically get Gameday every year....and are featured as the visiting team another couple of times.

Maybe they get it September 19th vs. the Hawkeyes next year if they finish strong and Iowa finishes strong as well.  If they are both ranked preseason, that could certainly be a candidate.  Early season game (week 3), likely to be nice weather, solid rivalry game, playing for Floyd.

But I was really pulling for Auburn to knock off LSU.  Certainly would have improved our chances....because yeah....#1 vs. #2 is difficult to pass on.  I do think, however, that based on the way that they've played, that OSU may hop LSU when the College Football Playoff Rankings come out.  And I'd expect Minnesota to get a nice bump as well.  Fact is....even though it's highly unlikely....if Minnesota were to go undefeated and win the BTCG....the committee couldn't possibly rationalize leaving them out of the playoffs....so at some point they would have to be moved ahead of some of these one loss teams.  Whether that occurs with the first CFP poll or whether it would take a win over PSU for the committee to start making those moves...who knows?  But there's a good possibility that the Bama/LSU game will be #1 vs. #3 instead of #2....which is still a big deal....but not quite as cool.  And it's not crazy to think that the Gophers sneak into the Top 10....which would make that PSU game a really great game.  ESPN has been showing the Gophers lots of love these past few weeks.  Since we haven't had much success as of recently...I think that we're an easy team for other fanbases to root for.  I like seeing the non traditional power teams from other conferences find success.  And the fantastic Casey O'Brien story has made two separate segments on Gameday in the past month or so.  It would give them plenty to talk about.

And LOL!  I just saw this from Fleck's post game presser.  He's straight up calling out ESPN for Gameday.

Pac 12 classic tonight in Eugene.  Lots of stress on refs, with several multi penalty plays some which involved reviews, etc.  Some great plays too.   Ducks with a final chance here, down one in final minute.

IU/UNL a very interesting game. I wonder what Michigan's McCaffrey thinks about his younger brother getting to play as a freshman in Lincoln.

If I'm him, I'm regretting going to Transfer QB University. Heh.
well, QBs #1 and #2 are injured
but, I do like the young McC

the future looks bright

Have to think just how big that drop from Ronnie Bell was last week. If he hangs onto that and Michigan forces OT good chance they would’ve pulled the W out.

Imagine them coming off a comeback win in Happy Valley at night and then beating the snot out of ND the next week.
Grover - getting a little ahead of yourself there, even if Bell hangs on it's a tie game with the PAT.Changes PSU's attack also.DPJ had 2 big drops in the 1st half that stalled a drive or two

I don’t know man. Seems like Michigan had all the momentum in that 2nd half. The M defense came alive and Patterson got his head out of his ass that 2nd half. I think Ronnie Bell catches that TD pass and the game ties up 28-28, Michigan would’ve been on cloud 9 and feeling confident as hell that the W was there’s. They flat dominated PSU that entire 2nd half.

I was just saying, that drop by Bell was huge. It ended the game. Michigan scores their they at least have a shot in OT with all the momentum on their side. And a Michigan at 7-1 with back to back top 10 wins would’ve shut a lot of the Harbaugh can’t win a big game and all the hot seat talk right up.

Nationally, Florida-Georgia will be the headliner. But that’s about it. Washington’s faltering has taken the air out of what would’ve been a prime matchup Vs Utah. Glad I’ll be tied up at an actual game next week, and not minding the other scores.

Had a tire pick up a tiny nail, leak getting worse, not repairable, so $207 to replace tire with 10,000 miles on it.

The former car had run flats and those failed routinely, the main thing I hated about that car.  The 35 profile tires would go bad if you hit a small hole.

I'm watching the ten day forecast for the "S" word

need to know when to change to my winter tires

my summer tires were original tires on the truck, they now have 64,000 on them.  Trying to squeeze the last few miles out.

Winter and summer tires are great, better than AS tires, but that changeover can be complicated for some.

Summer tires can wear out faster if they are performance types.

I bought the winter tires on a set of wheels, so a jack and a four way in my garage is an easy swap.  I then just wait until my next oil change and they recalibrate the sensors.

The winter tires and wheels were used.  Got them for $850, less than a set of 4 tires installed.

This way I can go a little more agressive in the winter.  In the summer I certainly don't need a softer performance tire on the truck.  Something that will wear 60-70 thousand

I had a bone graft session yesterday at the dentist following my extraction.  It wasn't too bad really, just time consuming.  The aftermath is OK, not something I would do for fun obviously.  The wife goes for her surgery 11/14, that will be a big deal for us.  We hope they don't have to replace the hip entirely, but it's possible.  It took 6 months to figure out the problem, and an MRI, which is not possible with some hip replacements but was with hers.  I'll be taking care of her for a few weeks following.

She should be better by the time baseball rolls around in January.

The ATL might be one place with relatively low "natural disaster" potential.  There are occasional tornadoes of course, and the ice storms can paralyze the place for a day.

Droughts can be an annoyance.

And there is the pine pollen season.

Try Phoenix. Other than the occasional dust storm. Very rare thunder shower (won't say storm haven't seen one in the 7 years I have been here). No earthquakes (at least that are felt), no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no ice storms, no large snow falls. And of course there is the thing that it is not California. However they seem to be migrating here, please take them back.
