Has the NFL Thursday night game killed the good Thursday night college game?  Seems like we used to get some decent ones, now we get better ones buried on Friday, and an AAC one Thursday.

The short sightedness of all these folks seems obvious.  They want to grow the game by playing in London and Mexico City, but they take the homegrown fan for granted.  The NFL goes and takes away what had been college footballs other night for 30ish years.  So the colleges respond by taking Friday night from the high schools.

Pretty much yes.

But watching undefeated SMU play @Holgo's new gig is somewhat interesting.

Those SMU uniforms were pretty slick across the board.

Houston on the other hand looked like "Generic Alt Uni For Team That Usually Wears Red."  So... not good.

Anyway, congrats to the ponies for 8-0.  After the mid 80s I never thought I'd see the day.

That game was pretty fun. I thought Ball State was probably a better story, but western staying competitive and making a bowl for another year is pretty impressive too.

Miami wins the Battle of the Bricks.

You can go ahead and pencil them into the MAC CCG.

Ohio is technically not eliminated, but they'd have to win out vs Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Akron, while Miami would have to go 1-2 vs Bowling Green, Akron and Ball State. Akron is winless, so neither team is going to lose to them. For the crossover games Ohio has the much tougher out with Western Michigan than Miami does with Ball St. Even then, Bowling Green would have to both beat the Redhawks and lose to the Bobcats. Bowling Green is pretty bad so they'll probably have the whole "losing to the Bobcats" thing covered, but the upset of Miami? Well... they did beat Toledo.

Midweek  Maction:
Tuesday:
Western @ Ohio U
Eastern @ Akron

Wednesday:
Bowling Green @ Miami
Northern @ Toledo

Thursday:
Buffalo @ Kent

Also Thursday: N Carolina @ Pitt

So if Ohio beats Western AND Bowling Green beats Miami, then Ohio U is still alive. If one or the other doesn't happen, then they are pretty much done.

Buffalo dominated Kent for three and a half quarters, building a 27-6 lead, but then Kent exploded for the final 24 four points and the win.

The comeback included a blocked punt, an on sides kick recovered by the kicker, and a walk off 44 yard field goal.

Good for them.  Kind of crazy, if you asked a random fan to name to name the best MAC program historically, I would assume you'd get Miami in a landslide.  And it wouldn't necessarily be wrong, but their on field success over the past 4 decades, has been sort of middling.

This week's MACtion

Tuesday
Eastern @ Northern
Ohio @ Bowling Green
.
Akron @ Miami
Toledo @ Buffalo
.
Then on Saturday is Ball @ Kent
.
Miami has clinched da East, as noted up thread.

The West is pretty convoluted. Eastern is the only team mathematically eliminated at 2-4. Western and Central are tied for first at 5-2, and both are idle this week. Western owns the H-H over Central, and finish with Northern, while Central gets Toledo. Ball, Northern and Toledo are all log jammed right behind them at 3-3.

I know my Badger fan friends love to poke and cringe at Chryst's press conferences, wardrobe and lack of media savvy, but Solich is one guy who is a total master of saying virtually nothing.

I remember 'covering' his first couple seasons and we'd play a game at any interview guessing how many times Solich would say 'tremendous'.   His GQOAT was in reference to a long time Nebraska trainer that had decided to retire/move on.   "[So and so] was such a tremendous trainer for this program for a tremendous number of years.'   Has tremendous every been used to describe a period of years?   And so it went, signing day in '98 was another doozy.   He was such a good dude though, amongst the kindest most helpful coaches I've ever been around.

I always thought his biggest wart as head coach was the in game, clock management and simple game flow.   Countless plays coming into the huddle late,  odd ball clock mgmt, etc. I think he really struggled to make the position/coordinator role during a game to HC, things did improve, but he just didn't have the on field command and it showed, more so in TO's shadow.

For the Mac West race, there is only one scenario where anyone other than WMU can make it to the ccg.

If Central beats Toledo AND Western loses to NIU, then Central would go. Western goes under any other scenario.

FYI, doing laundry appears to be more complex than just dumping dirty clothes into the washing machine.  Huh.

The wife is now walking about with no limp and a cane.  She is way better than she was pre-op.  It's amazing.  She does have a rather impressive surgical scar.

Hopefully she can get back to doing the laundry, cooking, cleaning, and beering me when needed soon.

I've been doing two different types of laundry loads since I graduated high school

one load that uses hot water & bleach - whites and towels

one that uses cold water - colors

nothing bad has happened in over 30 years

If you wash in cold water, you probably won't have any dye bleed from coloreds to whites, probably.  Your white likely will get a bit dingier over time, but you can bleach them with chlorine bleach and remove most of that.

I took the wife out to our local French restaurant last night (and to Costco earlier in the day), her first sojourns outside the building in 2 weeks.  She did just fine, we had a nice meal, she had some lobster tourine thing for dinner, it really was an appetizer.  I had scallops, which the French call something like "Ko-quiya San Jack".  I don't know what wrong with just scallops versus naming it after some dude.

The hospital brought her "French toast" one morning which she did not eat.  They don't have this in France apparently.  She said the dinners were good there.  I got some lamb chops for tonight which I'll grill.  She wanted turkey Thursday so we got some prepacked meal at Costco with enough Turkey to feed us for a week.

We'll see how that goes.

As for Oxyclean, it is a rip off.  I buy bottles of hydrogen peroxide for 88 cents at Walmart, same thing, it only works in hot water (or with a long presoak time).  The old Tide with Bleach had a different kind of bleach that sort of worked, mostly on tomato stains.  I worked on that project back in 1984 or so.  They pulled a cute trick to get that priced the same as regular Tide.

My mom used "Dash," which I don't ever see anymore.
Dash advertising emphasized that it had low sudsing and that suds don't do anything to clean your clothes.

Dash is not sold any more.  Back in the day, it had the highest phosphate content and was a really good product.  Everything is nip-P now so it's gone.

Bubbles help a lot with dish washing liquids but not at all for laundry detergents.  But Tide replaced soap products.  Soap is its own "builder" (taking out calcium and magnesium from hard water), so women knew to add soap until suds started to form.  The original Tide could have been formulated for low sudsing but the consumer would not have liked that at all as they associated suds with cleaning.

In the newer machines this is even less relevant today so products are low sudsing now.  Products like Cascade for your dish washer are VERY low sudsing because bubbles can cause the pump to over heat.  Don't use Dawn in your dishwashing machine.  It happens with dire results.

Column about UGA-Tech that amused me.  UGA has not lost in Atlanta to Tech since 1999.  I was musing about going to the game but the weather is going to be horrible.

Kicker had to be crapping his pants, when he saw his teammate going through his whizzing on the field act.  I would've bet $100 that he would have missed that XP, but my wife was asleep.

I'd love to be watching football right now. Took the kids for a tour of Dodger Stadium, which would be a lot more fun if I weren't sitting in the car with the youngest because she's got a stomach ache. Grr.

You didn't watch the Egg Bowl last night.

side note: and this isn't really a sour grapes in the moment comment, but football continues to become suffocated by the way in which officiating sucks the life out of it.   Set aside the actual 'calls'  whether they are good or bad, the game just dies a slow death repeatedly they way it operates these days.  Really

And when you look at 3 really bad calls in the 2nd half of the Iowa-Nebraska game it starts to make you wonder. And, then they huddle up after the made field goal like something else is about to come down.

Games today - fun. Cincy lost the ball on a fumble, overturned on replay, then hit a 51 yard pass and score on next play.

from where I was sitting, West side row 6 on the 17 yard line... it looked like the Sker defender contacted the receiver's shoulder, not his head
haven't seen any replays, didn't record the game

Targeting looks like it from one angle and not so much from another, often as not.  I'm OK with its being waved off much of the time, unless it's obvious.

I'm not interested enough to go find the replays

the Hawks won in spite of the no call

playing at home sometimes has a slight advantage

the Hawk fans I deal with whine about officiating win or lose

I'm looking forward to spring ball

You all know how I like to make fun of Barnum for his self-promotion and all that, right?

Well, this is not self-promotion, because it's the University's feed. But my God... Seriously? It's as if he wrote it and they published it.

Most of these accomplishments happened at Western Michigan. 39 NFL players? Like who?

And he's counting this year as a division championship? Seriously? WTF.

Don't wonder why I can't stand this clown. And now he's got his AD hoodwinked. It's all about the kids, ya know?

He did have a first-rounder, but I'm guessing you have to include camp invites to get to 39, which is silly.

I think he's a pretty decent coach and he gets people to believe some nonsense, which is a coach's job, but that is some over the top silliness.

Cant believe another season is essentially behind us and Saturdays turn in college basketball soon. One final game with Army V Navy at 3. Always reminds me of John’s write-ups. One of his best was his experience at this game. Go Army, beat Navy.

Of all the coaching hires so far Addazio to Colorado St is the worst. There seems to be this idea that any kind of P5 experience will translate well to stepping down to the A10, MWC, etc level, no matter what. No coach I’ve ever seen straddled the .500 mark more consistently than Addazio at BC and don’t expect any better at CSU. Not to mention his schemes are out dated, his recruiting was sub-par, not to mention he has no familiarity recruiting West of the Mississippi.

The second worst hire is Norvell to Florida State, not because Norvell isn’t an effective coach, but because is hiring him any better than hiring Taggart?!?! Gators fans can’t be scared.
