Hey FF what are the lively UNL Fan Forums?I want to know what the chattering ebola chimps...err the Children of The Corn are saying.Could be a the type of game where the Bucks are bit in the backside.UNL hasn't hit full stride yet but they're in the friendly confines under the lights and look to come out swinging.Buckeyes have to keep on keepin' on.Haven't read injury reports so feel free to chime in

I'll check it out seldom do I interact on homer boards.Last time I think was 2-3 yrs back on the Camp Randall Board.I got into it with a Buckeye Poster who was talking smack. He was sure the Buckeyes D-Line would dominate UW up front, they didn't and I told him so before hand and he got chippy. But disappeared when he was wrong. It was a close game in Madison, that D-Line was great in 2017 though.URBZ IMO blew the best chance we had at a NC by wet nursing Barret with both Haskins and Burrow on the bench - think about that.2 record setters on the pines. But JT was his pet project

IMO this is gonna be a much closer game than fans suspect. There's this ebb/flow/ - yin/yang energies in the universe. And Ohio State hasn't stubbed it's toe yet and UNL has.Martinez hasn't really hit his stride yet so theres that.'Skers almost got out of C-Bus with a win last year,it was close now they're at home.UNL can keep Fields out of his rythm this will be close.I think the Good Guys depth will see them through - hopefully

THIS WEEK'S NUMBERS
Saturday night's meeting between Nebraska and Ohio State will mark just
the second all-time matchup of schools with more than 900 all-time victories.
The first of those meetings occurred between Michigan and Ohio State last
season.
The Nebraska offense topped 300 yards in both rushing and passing at Illinois
last week. That marked just the second time in school history the Huskers
have posted a 300-300 game.
Nebraska will host ESPN's College GameDay this weekend. It will mark the
seventh time the show has originated from Lincoln and the first time since
the 2007 season.

This is only the eighth meeting between the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes.  Ohio State is 6-1 in the previous games and, of course, the one loss was the game I drove all the way to Lincoln to see in person.

They played two games in Columbus in the 1950's when Nebraska was down and Ohio State was up:

Then the B1G games started almost 60 years later.  The first B1G game between these two was also the very first B1G game ever played in Lincoln.  The Cornhuskers joined the league for the 2011 season.  They started out with four OOC wins (TN-Chat, Fresno, Washington, @WY) then lost their first ever B1G game in Madison.  The next week they hosted the Buckeyes:

the 2011 game is still the largest comeback in school history

hopefully Fields has better luck than Braxton Miller, but not too much better

Lincoln getting some Love, good they sure as hell won't be getting any starting at 7:30 Saturday Nite (https://www.cfb51.com/Smileys/fantasticsmileys/character0029.gif)

Husker head coach Scott Frost, appreciates the love. In fact, he wants his players to embrace the coming days.

“Our guys need to learn how to be comfortable in these situations,” he said. “This is special. Regardless of how this game goes, we’re going to do the best we can. I hope we can win. Regardless of how this game goes, this is a special time for Nebraska. There are some big things coming this week. 'GameDay' hasn’t been here in 10 or 12 years. This is a good opportunity to highlight our program, the direction the program is going, the improvement we have made, the path that we are on.

“It’s going to be great to get national attention here in Lincoln. If we weren’t improving and getting better and going in a really good direction that was obvious to a lot of people, we wouldn’t have those guys on ESPN coming to town. This is special. Our guys need to be able to operate and flourish amidst whatever distraction brings along with it.”

“It’s fun. Anytime there is a spotlight on your campus, your university and your town, I think it’s a good thing,” Frost said. “If you let it be a distraction, it can be. They will probably mic me up at practice or something, but I don’t raise my voice much anyway, so I don’t know how much good footage they are going to get.

“I don’t want it to distract the players. It’s not going to distract us. We've got a really good team coming in here and we need to be at our best to have a chance to beat them.”

The Huskers have a long history of success under the lights in Lincoln.
• The Huskers have won 21 of their last 23 home night games at Memorial Stadium. NU is 47-7 alltime in Memorial Stadium night games, including a 44-8 victory over Northern Illinois on Sept. 14.
• Nebraska's dominance at night in Lincoln has been impressive, as 34 of the home night wins have
been by at least 13 points.
• The seven losses in home night games have all come against teams that won at least 10 games
in that season (Washington, 1991; Texas, 2002; USC, 2007; Virginia Tech and Missouri, 2008;
Wisconsin and Ohio State, 2017). Ohio State is the last team to win a night game at Memorial
Stadium, defeating the Huskers in 2017.

There haven't been many cracks for OSU.  The defense is night and day compared to last year.  However, they have had a few injuries, and were missing a whole front line on the DL last week.  Also, safety Isaiah Pryor has entered the transfer portal and apparently left the program, so that's a knock at safety depth.

On the other side, Fields hasn't had to deal with a lot of pressure, and he can take his time in delivering the ball, so it will be interesting to see whether Nebraska can make him uncomfortable.

Should we give Nebraska a fighting chance here?  I slim chance?  Almost no chance?

Maybe the game is somewhat close at the half and OSU gets rolling?  Maybe Nebbie jumps out to say a 5-0 lead and shocks the world.

the Huskers will do whatever they need to bring at least moderate pressure

Are you kidding me? I expect a complete dog fight to the bitter end.
Field has yet to face a truly hostile crowd and a truly Roccus environment. This is his first. Ohio State defense has seen nothing like this Nebraska offense which is as dynamic and explosive is any day will see all year.

It's going to start happening more as other programs hit the 900-wins mark.

Notre Dame is at 899.  Penn State is at 890.

These days, a solid program can win 100 games a decade, I'm sure some have exceeded that since 2009, Bama etc.  15-0 is possible, but very unlikely of course for ten years.

From 2009 through 2018:

Bama: 127 wins
Clemson: 112
OU: 105
OSU: 103 (forfeits deducted)
Wisconsin: 102
Stanford: 101

Sorry Boise. I'm not including you.

Where you going this weekend? I want to know before I place bets.    . . .  I am not actually a betting man, but if I were.
LoL, I've seen wins too!

Anyway, not going to Lincoln this year.

I've seen the Buckeyes play in all 14 B1G stadiums plus the four major bowls (Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange).

I've seen them win three of the major bowls (Rose in '97 vs ASU, '03 Fiesta vs Miami, '14 Sugar vs Bama) and I've seen them win in all B1G stadiums except:
-Wisconsin (03)
-Purdue (12)
-Northwestern (04?)
-Nebraska (11)

Someday I'd like to see my team win in each B1G stadium but right now I have a six month old so those trips are out for a while.

Ohio State's record in games I have attended away from Ohio Stadium:
11-4 in B1G road games (three at IU).
0-1 in B1GCG's, MSU
1-0 in OOC road games (VaTech)
3-3 in bowl games (won: Rose, Fiesta, Sugar; lost Orange, Sugar, Fiesta)

the only thing that will keep the Huskers in the game................ winning the turnover battle

Nebraska has 10 takeaways through four games to rank first in the Big Ten and fifth nationally in that category.

Nebraska has five takeaways over the past three games.

Nebraska has averaged 2.6 takeaways in its past nine games. Prior to that, Nebraska averaged 1.0 takeaway in its 30 previous games spanning three seasons.

The Huskers have forced three or more turnovers in four of their last nine games. Before the current streak, NU had not forced three turnovers in 30 games dating back to game two in 2016.

Nebraska has forced 16 fumbles in its past nine games. Prior to that, Nebraska had forced just 14 fumbles in its previous 34 games.

OSU has a reputation of dropping a clunker (last 2 being road games to Western foes), and this has all the makings for an OSU under-performance and for making Nebraska look amazing.

Nebraska May very well win, but I don’t think it would be because OSU overlooked them.

the Huskers have experienced a couple dogfights already- and figured out how to will their way to a win.  Likely their only game at night at home, and with game day in town...I expect to see their very best performance, maybe all year.

OSU has not experienced a dogfight, a night game on the road and very hostile environment.  They have not experienced an explosive offense, multiple players who can take it to the house from all over the field. Fields has not experienced consistent pressure, playing from behind late, or any of that stuff.  No, Nebraska has, in my opinion, one of the most creative minds in CFB for a coach, and he will throw everything and the kitchen sink at OSU, with a squad that will be sky high all night.

while the Buckeye players clearly know they are walking into a hornets nest, they also clearly are chomping at the bit to prove themselves in an extremely difficult venue.   We will see if they are equipped to to compete at that level. Because, let’s be real, we really don’t know.   They will have to grow up fast.   Bottom line, they. Could just get beat by a better team Saturday night.

Early returns for Grinch in Norman are very positive, although his defense hasn't been tested by a first-rate offense yet.

Last couple of years, we were getting lit-up regularly by second-rate offenses.

They're just anticipating Fearless and his Posse rolling into town with all that Shark Water and hot air flying out of everywhere

Early returns for Grinch in Norman are very positive, although his defense hasn't been tested by a first-rate offense yet.

Last couple of years, we were getting lit-up regularly by second-rate offenses.
Ya Grinch improved the Pirate's lot every year in the Paloose.I think he jumped at the chance for OU because he was uncertain what was up with Urban leaving and Schiano's place afterward.Or perhaps him and Day didn't see I-2-I,tough to know but he got while the getting was good.Perhaps he would have stayed in C-Bus if he was guaranteed the gig moving forward.I was always very curious as to why tOSU did not retain him.If you find out do post, maybe you'll have the same luck with him as the other Ohio guy Stoops

“We’ve had this one circled since since February. So we’re ready to go,” said DT Haskell Garrett on Wednesday. “We knew that this was gonna be the one. Everybody’s testing us, every week, every day, so we just gotta go out there and make a statement.”

That definitely falls well short of bulletin board material, but it stands out in the tightly-controlled world of college football media. Outside of rare exceptions, different variations on “We just take it one game at a time” are the rule.

And we've reached the annual week where the local jabber jocks on Columbus radio offer up hot takes about how the Big Ten should have fixed crossovers so that OSU and Nebraska play every year instead of once in a blue moon.

Uh, guys? Hello? That's sorta what we have going on here. Every year you preview and recap the game. Pay attention!

One of my former students, a valedictorian, is a freshman at OU.  She comes home to visit her family on home-game weekends because she doesn't like the noise.
my daughter loves the noise and attends most of the games, unless she's working

just not getting up at 5am to get near the Game Day stage
but, UNL does have those types that have no interest in football or the gameday/night crowd and excitement

Ugg!

OSU has a reputation of dropping a clunker (last 2 being road games to Western foes), and this has all the makings for an OSU under-performance and for making Nebraska look amazing.
umm... no.

UNL has an issue with the passing game.   Teams are sitting on short routes and pressing the outside WR's.   UNL doesn't have a Stanley Morgan this year to help stretch the field.   So UNL's offense has to be more precise in a more crowded area.   This is why, I believe, UNL has had some really big plays and at times, an offense that performs poorly.   Win big or lose quickly...    I see the run game continually improving with OL development and RB's adjusting to the system, but to make this offense really click, you have to stretch the field on the outside.  jmo

Defensively, UNL is much improved.  That doesn't mean they will shut down OSU but they are much better.  I'm really looking forward to watching UNL's DL vs OSU's OL

Despite some fans expectations not being met, I think UNL is on the correct path.    Talent holes still exist but a slow and steady climb is good for the program.

hah, If the offense could have managed a TD in OT vs the Buffs, expectations would have been unreal

and possibly not good for this team

Frost is hoping his team will play loose in that nothing-to-lose manner. "I don't think a lot of people are going to pick us to win. Rightfully so, because they've got one of the best teams in the country I think right now ... So there's no reason for us to be nervous or uptight. We've just got to go take our swings."

"These are the games you want because it lets us see where on that road we are. I don't have any doubt we'll get there. We'll take our swing on Saturday and see how far we've come."

I like the analysis Entropy, wrt to what you've observed in the passing game.    I wasn't quite able to figure out, what you had expressed.  That makes sense to me, as I think about not only the CU game, really the NIU game too.   I'm not convinced I'm noticing improvement on the OL, that's an effort which requires a bit more close viewing on my part.   I'm stuck remembering missed assignments, and frankly no line surge.  Guys are getting beat.  Short yardage situations are not something I have any faith in Nebraska.

I really worry the kicking game will cost them (again, though the CU loss wasn't really all or that much on kicking, but it was a contributing factor) during the season.

the O-line play "seemed" improved vs Illinois, but I'm not convinced either

they seem decent at pass pro, run blocking has been terrible until Illinois

the test Saturday evening will be real

Nebraska football offensive lineman Christian Gaylord lost his father in car accident last Friday, and he has offered to give the jersey his father wore to College GameDay guest picker and longtime Huskers fan Gabrielle Union.

After Union was announced as the guest picker on Thursday, the actress wrote a tweet which included a question about which Nebraska jersey she should wear when she appears live on ESPN Saturday morning. Gaylord then replied to Union on his Twitter account, posting a picture of his father on top of the jersey.

"I’m a senior on the team," Gaylord wrote in response to Union. "I tore my ACL this year and awaiting a medical redshirt. My father was killed in a car accident last Friday. You’re more than welcome to wear my fathers jersey he wore during my games. It would be an honor."

Later in the evening, Union replied with a tweet to say that she would wear Gaylord's jersey on Saturday. GameDay will begin its television broadcast from Lincoln on ESPN at 8 a.m. CT Saturday.

"I would be honored!!" Union wrote in her tweet. "@Huskers @HuskerFBNation can you help make this happen? #ThereIsNoPlaceLikeNebraska #GBR #Home."
