My internet went out during a lightning storm last night so a lot of looking at my phone today. Not sure what games I'll be able to get through the antenna amongst the three soccer games I have to make today.
-
enjoying the fall weather and a Husker night game combo
expected high of 85 with a breeze
schooners at the pub this morning, afternoon golf, Husker football
Go Bucky Badger!
-
So far, so good here on the weather. Supposed to rain later in Madison but I don't think it's going to be as bad as thought.
-
I always rooted for bad weather back in the 80's and 90's when the Huskers ran the ball
tougher on the team that preferred to pass
-
Through two games, UW has rushed the ball for 473 yards, on 86 attempts. It has passed for 601, on 65 attempts.
-
Woo wee.
The Wolverines are in trouble.
-
We can hope.
-
Italian sausage sammitches with marinara, giardiniera and provolone. Veal brats simmered in beer and served with hot mustard. Ring bologna served with a spicy pickle relish.
Going to come up with a salad, for balance, and some fresh veggies from the farmers' market in a little bit, when it opens.
Very nice day in Kenosha, so far. We'll see if it holds.
Got the 36 set up in the cockpit area already, along with the 21 down below.
-
Woo wee.
The Wolverines are in trouble.
Don’t be so sure.
-
Let's Go Bucks!
-
Volleyball matches on the slightly early side today, then help in law prepare to shut down lake house .
Might not get to TVs until 3ish.
Long week of coastal and Midwest travel, pretty maybe it's good i m not going to champaign. No chance once they moved to night.
-
putting a pork roast in the crock pot, that can simmer while I'm on the course, will be ready for kickoff
red, yellow, green peppers along with onions, and garlic cloves
would like to spice it up, but daughter doesn't agree
-
It's a grey, rainy morning here in Norman, Oklahoma right now. No, I'm not here to see the Sooners. My OKC bound train is stopped in a siding waiting for Amtrak to get by us so we can be on our way.
Should be off work soon enough at least, ain't far from OKC.

Send her to Denny's.
-
Send her to Denny's.
Or to your dock
-
she's been to Badge's dock and she enjoyed the italian beef sammiches

Got a big day of producing game orders and such. Going to watch Florida, then get to work on the next order - the entire 2018 Pac-12. Ugh.
-
Living in the Pacific Time Zone not a lot of sports bars are open by the time these noon games kick off. Planning on watching Michigan-Wisconsin and Tennessee-Florida.
-

Great to hear, 'Fro. I think I might need a couple for Christmas gifts.
-
Smoking a couple slabs of ribs, paired with green beans and macaroni and cheese. Was thinking I should go to the gym, but rapidly losing my willpower as UM@UW looms.
-

Michigan beat Army in double OT. They faced some adversity against Middle Tenn. as well.
Wisconsin? Cake walk.
-
Logan Bruss is working with the 1's in warmups.
The Michigan RB is also in warmups, as is DPJ. Tru Wilson did not make the trip.
-
Time to watch some football with the fellas. Here's to a great day, all.
:08:
-
Finally in my hotel in OKC just in time to watch some football
-
Bs call on Ross imo. That’s ticky tack.
-
Taylor is a bad ass. He’s the best NFL prospect at RB that Wisc has ever had imo.
-
Someone pointed out how good MSU's scripted first drives always are. Right down the field, nine plays, TD. Didn't even get to third down. 7-0
Now watch them score no more than 17, happens consistently.
-
Chryst doesn't look like he's gonna ignore Taylor today
-
Elbow was down. Don’t matter. Michigan can’t stop them on short yardage.
-
Damn all he had to do was cut right.Great Back but read his blocks wrong there
-
TD Taylor - the hard way is right
-
He should’ve been blown down. My only gripe with those goal-line plays. Any other time that run is blown dead.
-
Special team already with a kick out of bounds, and a fumbled return.
Northwestern has negative total yardage and is already at the MSU 27
-
Kick out of bounds, force them backwards, fumble the punt return to give them the ball at the MSU 27, PI to give them a 1st and goal. TD Northwestern.
Rinse and repeat from last week. MSU just can't get out of their own way with stupid penalties and mistakes.
-
Wow, ruled NW short, replay confirmed. MSU stuffed NW three straight plays from the 1, turnover on downs
-
Now why the hell did Michigan call a timeout after that long play to go 1st and Goal?!?! Almost always an advantage to the defense when a TO is called inside the defense 10. Basic stuff Harbaugh!
-
What the hell.
-
Jesus Christ this coaching staff is stupid.
Shea missed a wide open Nico for a TD. And then they let a freaking fullback who had been playing DT all camp run the ball and he fumbles? GIVE ME A F’ING BREAK. Harbaugh should fire himself. Right now.
-
Charbonnet must be hurt if they’re putting Mason in and giving him the ball that far out.
-
Charbonnet must be hurt if they’re putting Mason in and giving him the ball that far out.
Then put in Turner. Don’t give me that BS. This is dumb ass coaching rearing it’s ugly head....AGAIN. Stop handing the FKIN ball to guys like Ben Mason and Ben VanSmuren. Give the ball to the FKIN running backs.
-
Today will be the day I’m officially done with this coaching staff.
-
Today will be the day I’m officially done with this coaching staff.
Me too. Not the staff. Just done with Harbaugh. Keep Don Brown and the OL coach. Fire Harbaugh and everyone else.
-
Me too. Not the staff. Just done with Harbaugh. Keep Don Brown and the OL coach. Fire Harbaugh and everyone else.
Yeah you’re not wrong. I like Brown. I really can’t stand the judgement calls in key situations.
-
Ugh can we end replay
-
Ugh can we end replay
Yeah it’s getting ridiculous. That’s clearly a catch.
-
Man that looked like a catch to me.
-
Are you FKIN KIDDING ME? ARE YOU FKIN KIDDING ME?!
-
That’s literally an awful call.
-
Patterson is awful. Just straight up trash.
-
That’s literally an awful call.
This is a theme. Last time Michigan went to Wisconsin DPJ got ROBBED by the refs of a TD catch.
-
The replay officials have gotten 2 of 3 calls wrong. What’s the point?
-
And one call changes an entire game. Disgusting.
-
Wow Jonathan Taylor just made the whole Michigan defense look like they were running in mud
-
This game could literally not have started worse for Michigan. Bonehead decisions in the red zone by the coach and then they get robbed on a huge catch by the refs only to give up a big TD on the very next play.
-
That’s literally an awful call.
Agreed, not sure how ya take time then miss that
-
Wow Jonathan Taylor just made the whole Michigan defense look like they were running in mud
He had a giant hole. Michigan run defenders aren’t staying in their lanes. They look confused as hell.
-
And one call changes an entire game. Disgusting.
Ridiculous.
-
HOW THE FK IS THAT A 15 yard penalty on DPJ?
-
Shea Patterson literally sucks.
-
Patterson could have had coffee back there
-
Patterson could have had coffee back there
He is truly awful. Time to bench him.
-
Taylor on pace for...600 yards
-
Does AC still think it's too small a sample size to say Michigan's run defense is a problem?
-
HOW THE FK IS THAT A 15 yard penalty on DPJ?
Between coaching, Patterson and officiating, this has been almost unwatchable.
-
Catch. 14 point swing on bad call
-
And Patterson on pace for the....bench.
-
Penalties are the only reason Northwestern is in this. MSU has to get this corrected
-
Wow. These refs are full of shit.
-
M can strike fast and SP appears healthy and if he settles down we'll have a game.Sure hope not though
-
Does AC still think it's too small a sample size to say Michigan's run defense is a problem?
Taylor is one of the best RBs in the entire country. Maybe even the best. He made a big play. It happens. You can’t really stop him, you can only hope to contain him. And he’s got like 80% of his yards on one carry. Relax.
-
Penalties are the only reason Northwestern is in this. MSU has to get this corrected
MSU with 53 yards in penalties already, plus -1 in TO. Northwestern has 49 yards of offense.
-
M can strike fast and SP appears healthy and if he settles down we'll have a game.Sure hope not though
Patterson is garbage. This game is already over.
-
Penalties are the only reason Northwestern is in this. MSU has to get this corrected
Those offensive line injuries really hurt too.
-
Drinking coffee with more juice than Michigan’s offense
-
Amazing how Kemp hits people behind the LOS all the time yet the ball carrier happens to fall forward and never backward.
-
Don Brown is getting his ass handed to him. Letting a FB screen burn him for 20 yards. Jesus Christ. GTFO. This staff is dumb as shit.
-
Wow. Taylor hurt
-
BTW, how is Michigan so thin at DL they move Mason there, then so thin at RB they move him back?
-
BTW, how is Michigan so thin at DL they move Mason there, then so thin at RB they move him back?
Harbaugh is a dumbass when it comes to personnel. This is widely known. Why do you think the 49ers wouldn’t let him draft players.
-
Who is this 4th down Wisconsin?
-
Ballsy call I would not have made great pitch and catch.Coan looking decent
-
Why the FK doesn’t Michigan teach their DBs lock & level like Woodson was talking about in the pre-game? Seriously. If you play that much man coverage how the FK do you not teach that?
-
FK this game, fk this team, and fk this coach. I’m out.
-
Nice stop there
-
lol
-
Wiscy is a confident bunch
-
https://twitter.com/finebaum/status/1175458317252157440
-
Dumb move db under thrown could have just stopped.M needs to capitalize here
-
Wisconsin has been playing Wisconsin football.
-
Difficult to fathom, but Michigan looks overwhelmed athletically
-
Nice play by the lineman had the guy open
-
Michigan’s play fakes are atrocious and literally fool no one. It’s painful. I’m going to fake this handoff which no one is buying and looks like a terrible acting job then through into double coverage.
-
Useless Greg McElroy with the insight that when Pat Fitzgerald got to Northwestern, he decided to model his program after what Dantonio did at Michigan State. That would be the Pat Fitzgerald who was hired at Northwestern a year before MSU hired MD.
-
Damn UW found their QB 28-0,14 w/o Taylor
-
Welp
-
UW gonna pin their ears now.JH better save some face
-
UW gonna pin their ears now.JH better save some face
I’m not going to lie, I hope the Badgers win 56-0 for two reasons:
1) it’s time to move on from a Harbaugh. His judgment on personnel and QBs has been absolutely awful. His game coaching and planning is awful.
2) the badgers need the credit they deserve. The story shouldn’t be just the Michigan fail, but a massive win should give them the attention deserved.
-
I'm having a nice day. Really nice day. I hope it continues.
For 2019:
UW: 138
Opponents: Nothing
-
Difficult to fathom, but Michigan looks overwhelmed athletically
There is a well-kept secret in Wisconsin. In-state talent is much better than it gets credit for.
-
2) the badgers need the credit they deserve. The story shouldn’t be just the Michigan fail, but a massive win should give them the attention deserved.
Agree Badgers are Top 5 nationally
-
Glad Ohio State has UW in C-Bus,still think Ms passing game is better than this.Harbaugh has to show leadership here
-
How was Collins redshirting last year?
-
YEEEEEHAAAAWWWWWWWWW!!!!
-
Wisconsin was such a boring game I switched over to MSU/NU. Now that looks like a slow strangulation by the MSU defense. Suppose I should load the charcoal and light the smoker for these ribs, let the temp get fully settled in, as I need to put them on in 90 minutes.
-
That’s just stupid. That’s not a late hit
-
Wisconsin. Just. Wow.
-
Wisconsin fans should be embarrassed. They boo the ejection of that blatant targeting and cheer #2 as he runs off? That was an incredibly dangerous hit.
-

Probably would have happened anyway, but the the BS targeting call 30 seconds earlier didn't help.
-
You ever sorta halfway watch a game while you’re doing other things and the score doesn’t match what you’re seeing when you look up?
That’s this Tennessee-Florida game for me. It’s 24-3 UF and every time I look up UT is doing something good.
-
Just looked up

That’s this Tennessee-Florida game for me. It’s 24-3 UF and every time I look up UT is doing something good.
That's because once Florida scored a TD, it knew the game was won, and the new QB started taking stupid risks.
-
Just looked up
Just looked up and the Vols fumbled
Lol. Yeah, I saw that too.
-
Agree Badgers are Top 5 nationally
Top 5 is a stretch. I still think Clemson, Bama, OSU, Georgia, LSU, and Oklahoma are better. Some of those teams would make pretty short work of Bucky.
-

As stated, it was the call before that one that had them in a frenzy already. And yeah, very dangerous play there. Just not sure how he could have avoided it. He led with his shoulder and McCaffrey was going down. Bang bang play.
I just hope the kid is OK. That was a vicious hit, in a vicious game.
-
Called the slow start in another thread.
-
UCF is lucky to only be down 7-0. Pitt is dominating them.
-
TCU not off to a good start vs SMU
-
Buckeyes weather the RedHawk storm
-
Top 5 is a stretch. I still think Clemson, Bama, OSU, Georgia, LSU, and Oklahoma are better. Some of those teams would make pretty short work of Bucky.
LSU gave up 38 to Vandy.
I like LSU under Burrow, but it might be a stretch to say they are better than Wisconsin.
-
Auburn’s DL living up to the hype. Really controlling the Aggies up front in a surprisingly big lead the Tigers are pitching over Texas A&M.
-
UCF is lucky to only be down 7-0. Pitt is dominating them.
Pitt got up 21-0, and then totally collapsed
-
Mike Golic Jr such an idiot. Kansas tries an onside kick by popping the ball straight up in the air. Ball never hit the ground and KU kid blasts WVU kid. That is kick catch interference. He repeatedly called it a botched call. Idiot.
-
Appalachian State beat North Carolina.
Temple lost to Buffalo.
-
Really impressed with Malzahn and rest of Auburn staff in managing their way out of Texas A&M working with all the 4th quarter momentum. Auburn’s 4th quarter TD drive to put the game mostly out of reach was perfectly play-called, executed, and gave the defense a big rest ahead of the passing attack A&M was forced to resort to.
-
Pitt!
-
WVU survives Kansas. Ridiculous call very late in the game. On 3rd and 10 with just a few seconds KU throws a pass over the middle that goes for 9 yards. Clearly a yard short of the line to make.
Refs call it a first down despite spotting the ball a full yard short of the line to make and it going in the books as an official 9 yard game. It allowed KU one more play on a hook and lateral that got inside the 20.
-

It's good you weren't there to see the Sooners, Froggy, as OU played "Open Date" today.

Appt State has been the best football program in North Carolina for some time now.
-
LSU gave up 38 to Vandy.
I like LSU under Burrow, but it might be a stretch to say they are better than Wisconsin.
There is no “D” in SEC.
-
LSU gave up 38 to Vandy.
I like LSU under Burrow, but it might be a stretch to say they are better than Wisconsin.
If that LSU-Vandy game had taken place in the Big 12, all the media talk about it would have been how nobody plays defense in the Big 12.
But since it was in the SEC, everything is good.
Shootouts prove that SEC offenses have caught up with everyone else.
Low-scoring games prove that SEC defenses are best.
Blowout wins over FCS team prove that no one can match up with the SEC.
It's all good.
-
Uh Nebraska? Anytime buddy
-
Peters has the Illini up 14-0 over UNL,wonder if the Wolverines would take him back

14-7 now.
Come on, Huskers!
-
Illini recover the ball on the 10 yd line being reviewed.Illinois 1st and 10
-
TD Illinois 21-7 0ver the Bug Eaters
-
I feel dirty rooting for the SEC, but go Dawgs! POTFI!
-
Ribs are going to be tender af. I personally don't think "fall off the bone" is appropriate, but it makes the masses happy. Doing baby backs, instead of my usual 3-1.5-.5, I did 3-1.75-.75.
-
Blackshirts with the pic
-
OL is a mess. No PK, Adrian continues to come off as a softie. Skill players look good.
-
skill player made a play
-
Georgia and ND go on scoring drives at the end of the half. 10-7 ND
-
That Husker fumble inside the 10 is the difference so far. Huskers easily lead the stats.
-
Old Dominion up on UVA 17-14 heading into the 4th. Can they do it two years in a row?
-
That Husker fumble inside the 10 is the difference so far. Huskers easily lead the stats.
huskers game to lose
they're trying
-
ODU stupidly decides to go for a 4th down on its own 30 and doesn’t make it. UVA cashes in. 21-17.
-

Sounds delicious. I've been using Franklin's recipes for pork ribs, pork shoulder, and beef short ribs.
-

They don't call it "Odd U" for nothing.
They do call it "Odd U," don't they?
If they don't, they should.
-
my pork shoulder came out nicely
pulled the bone for the dog
finishing the bottle of bombay
just cut a fresh lime
-
Nd v UGA another really nice game. Home and home!
-
They don't call it "Odd U" for nothing.
They do call it "Odd U," don't they?
If they don't, they should.
If they don't, then I'm gonna start calling Ohio Dominican University that.
-
Nd v UGA another really nice game. Home and home!
Yeah, I'm really appreciating this game.
-
ND player literally throws his teammate on the ground to fake an injury to slow some tempo from UGA. That stuff drives me crazy. I’d love to see that penalized but honestly don’t know a way to do it.
-
Did you see the blatant, purposeful fake injury ND just did? That's it. It's official. They're all just soccer players now. The coddling of the QBs, the targeting calls on normal football collisions, and now faking injuries (as instructed from the sideline, no less). Pffffft.
-
Texas stuffs an OK St fake FG. 28-23 Horns in the 4th.
-
Gundy was sick of fga in the game. I could see that call 1500 miles away on my couch
-
Call unsportsmanlike conduct on that flagrant fake injury.
-
N turnover rate last decade plus is stunning.
-
Call unsportsmanlike conduct on that flagrant fake injury.
Problem is how do you prove someone is faking an injury? You can’t put that kind of judgement in the hands of officials.
-
When DB slams his own LB to ground you can.
-
Call unsportsmanlike conduct on that flagrant fake injury.
I don't think that was fake
-
Or that one?
-
They fumble more than wishbone teams.
-
This is sickening to watch.
-
Are you cooking for masses?
Sounds delicious. I've been using Franklin's recipes for pork ribs, pork shoulder, and beef short ribs.
Wife and kids. But my eldest just turned 12, so sometimes I feel like I need to cook for the masses!
Big thing was that this was the first time we tried ribs with the middle one (who is autistic and has been weird about food his whole life). He's 10 and probably ate a half a slab, so I'd call that a success!
-
From here on out, all ND "injuries" are fake until proven otherwise. They're taking advantage of the officials being unable to identify a faked injury, because of the safety issue involved.
It's bush league, embarrassing, and they should be penalized over and over and over again.
If you think I'm being overly dramatic, I'm not, because everyone is complicit in it - the coaches who ordered the one teammate dragging down the other, the players, and the medical people as well. A-holes are probably talking the player through the process - "okay, shake your head no....alright, I'm going to check your forearm for a bit....and when we get back to the sideline I'll give you some eyedrops that are actually just water."
Bulllllllllll shittttttttttttt
-

Nice!
Dry rub? Sauce? Mopping?
-
Nice!
Dry rub? Sauce? Mopping?
Dry rub (I generally buy commercial instead of making my own) and I sauced two of three slabs. I don't mop. I did three hours naked in the smoker, wrapped in foil for 1 hr 45 min, then back to naked for 45 min with sauce applied for the last 30 min. Came out perfect. Wish I'd taken a picture lol.
-
Annoyed by all these players wearing those strips on their arms because they all want to be Alvin Kamara...
-
I wonder what all those Asshats are thinking now. Nebraska to win the West?? Maybe pick Illannoy instead?
-
ND had an OL literally 10 yards downfield on that RPO. That's why those plays are indefensible, the refs can't remember to enforce the rules on them.
-
I guess Kirby pointed it out.
-
I wonder what all those Asshats are thinking now. Nebraska to win the West?? Maybe pick Illannoy instead?
Who are these asshats? Not this board. 6-6.
-
And ND gets great field position after the awful punt.
-
N in I formation? Of course they get stuffed. I I hope Washington is ok.
-
Home and Home. Great college football game in Athens, my favorite college town.
-
That was a fumble 45 min ago
-
Frost pretty honest post game. Hard to win games -3 to margin w 115yds in pens.
-
Frost doesn't bull
good win by the team
way too many turnovers and penalties, but a win
Lovie and his NFL conservative hurt his call
-
College Gameday heading to Lincoln next week.

I wonder what all those Asshats are thinking now. Nebraska to win the West?? Maybe pick Illannoy instead?
Pretty sure Wisconsin made the statement today that they'd be favored in the East this year, so they're going to steamroll the West.
-
Damn, UCLA was down 32 a few minutes ago. Now it's 49-46.
-
Nice win for Colorado.
-
UCLA won t give up. Gordon w 8tds for wazzu
-
Pr TD UCLA
-
It was 49-17. Now 60-56. Still 730 left
-
9 tds for Gordon. Plenty of time.
-
6 tos is how you lose 67-63. Damn.
-
Glad I wasn't the only won that saw this.
50 pts in the 2nd half.
Can you imagine throwing 9 TD's being up 32 and LOSING?
UNREAL.
-
PAC after dark - the wild, wild west, highest scoring game in PAC 10 History.Of course long before the end the Oktoberfests worked their magic and I was slumbering
-

NO pictures thank you if I can't have it.

Pretty sure Wisconsin made the statement today that they'd be favored in the East this year, so they're going to steamroll the West.
Well, let’s not get that far ahead of ourselves.
-
I really can't stand Pawl,he's not a shameless shill like Danielson but still if I want to watch highlights on the World Wide Leader he's part of the package.Who ordained him and Heather Dinnich authorities/experts.This board could step in for all of them and their numbers would sky rocket.Except for SVP - class act
-
WOW, I was watching that WSU-UCLA game and I'm stunned. Not even at the comeback or the final score, but when I was watching, UCLA looked pathetic. 0-3, thinking they made a poor HC hire, playing listless, etc.....they were as low as you can get. And then they come back and win that game?!?
You never can tell what a group of 20 year old is going to do - ever. Also, no "Air Raid" team will probably ever win the NC - they can't punch the ball in at the goal line and they can't salt away time off the clock with a big lead. Also, practicing against that type of offense day in and and day out makes their defense soft.
-
Anybody see Rutgers Lineman jubilantly pop his QB in the facemask after a score.Snapped his head/neck back pretty good surprised he didn't drop then & there
-
Yes, Wisconsin made a statement, "We ARE Wisconsin.". Opponents should beware, they might beat them but will be sore on Sunday. And they very well may lose. Or else Michigan is simply far more incompetent than anyone had predicted.
OSU us steamrolling lessers, which is a better sign than slipping by them, but the Season awaits.
-
1/3 of the way through the season already. It just flies by.
-
And many teams have really not yet started to play the real schedule. And those who have likely have played one competent opponent.
-
1/3 of the way through the season already. It just flies by.
Shut up!!!

LSU did it to us 13 times in our game 2 weeks ago. So effectively, they were granted 19 times-outs. I was thoroughly embarrassed for them.
-
One ND player dropped twice flagrantly. Then he hopped up like a soccer player and returned to the game each time after one play.

-
As a CFB fan, I admire what Wisconsin does and how they do it. I don't think I'd want to face them in a bowl game.
Stanford managed this route for a few years.

Yeah, it's cool to see a bunch of 2* recruits/walk-on's on the OL beat the snot out of people every week. Makes me smile. Those big guys broke Michigan's spirit yesterday. Ground and pound.
I'm ready to proclaim last season a blip.
-
One ND player dropped twice flagrantly. Then he hopped up like a soccer player and returned to the game each time after one play.
Maybe a rule that if if the trainers have to come out and attend to you then you have to sit out the rest of the drive. Maybe even the quarter.
-
Yeah, I think if time is called for an injury, that player should be "injured" for the remainder of the drive, at minimum.
It's my impression the zebras are letting the pass defenders play aggressively this season more so than usual. I saw a lot of manhandling that was not called yesterday.
-
As a CFB fan, I admire what Wisconsin does and how they do it. I don't think I'd want to face them in a bowl game.
Stanford managed this route for a few years.
Exactly so.
-

Something like this is where I'd want it to go.
But the argument in the other direction, is that a rule like this would encourage players to stay in and on their feet when they're legitimately injured, thus potentially causing even further damage. I'm not sure I buy it, but I think it's enough of an argument to keep the anti-flopping rules at bay.
-
Exactly so.
+2. I love watching the Badgers do what they do.
They're my second-favorite B1G team, don't you know. :)

In the Texas-LSU game, there was one play where Texas has gotten a first down and was running up to the line quickly to run HUNH, and two LSU players hit the field at the same time, rolling around faking their injuries. Then they saw each other, one of them looked over to the sideline, and immediately popped right back up. It was comical.
-
Brian Kelly claimed the ND players were not dropping intentionally. Maybe so. The timing was curious though. He said one was concussion protocol and the other was cramps, both seemed to return to the game after a play as I recall, and one dropped shortly thereafter, the concussion dude.
Whatever, I think if you drop and get tended, you should be out that series, as suggested above.

The first one, where the ND guy told him to get down, was definitely legit. He was wobbling on his feet and then was taken through the concussion protocol.

I dimly recall both players returned to the game after one play, but I may be mistaken.

Yup, we were doing pretty much the same thing for the LSU game. There were a couple of LSU fans behind us, nice guys cheering for their team and not trash-talking at all and we chatted with them some.
But after all of the LSU flopping with fake cramps, we kept on telling those guys, "Hey, if you need some water just let us know. We don't want you keeling over in the stands and rolling around, we're hospitable like that." And then, every time one of us got up to get a beer or something, we'd bring them back a fresh, cold bottled water and give it to them. They were tolerant but not overly amused. :)

No way, folks from Louisiana were clearly, BADLY dehydrated that day. Beer would have just made it worse and I couldn't do that to our fine guests and retain a clear conscience.

I meant to get all of this earlier but work had a nice over the weekend meltdown.
That game struck me as Wisconsin being solid and good in Michigan perhaps being as rickety as I expected. I think this is possibly giving the badgers a little too much shine, and we will have to see about some of the next steps.
That said, beating Michigan always rules and I do like the look of this team.
-
If Wisconsin is not a real top ten team, Michigan is a what? Perhaps it was just a bad matchup for UM and others will fare better against UW?
Maybe.
-
I thought they were your baseball buddies from the CWS in Omaha?
That's why I had to look out for their health. With their players dropping like flies all over the field and rolling around in agony (to return one play later with no ill effects of course), I jut couldn't feel good about offering them further dehydration. I care too much.

At MB stadium, hot dogs are $2 each, regular beer is something like $4. The prices are astounding, to me, and they held for the SB as well.

Sorry, hot dogs are $1.50 each. A bottle of water or soft drink is $2. A beer is $5.
Beer prices vary but are comparably low. It's amazing to me. And they are making more money with the cheaper pricing.
According to Falcons president and CEO Rich McKay, fans spent 16 percent more overall in the first year, even with price cuts of 50 percent.

Husker Linebacker Coach Ruud's take: Current Georgia starting quarterback Jake Fromm must be awfully talented if he could beat out Fields.
All Fields has done through four games this season is complete 66 of 95 passes (69.5 percent) for 880 yards and 13 touchdowns, with zero interceptions. He's rushed 34 times for 190 yards (4.4 ypc) and six scores.
"He can run it, he can throw it, he doesn't turn the ball over," Ruud said. "He's been really solid."
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Fields directs an offense that is as strong as any team in the country, Ruud said. The Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) rank 14th in total offense (526.5 ypg) and third in scoring (53.5).
"It's very similar to what we do, honestly, in that they use pre-snap disguises really well, they use tempo really well, and they're very balanced," Ruud said.
-
Fromm beat out Eason and Fields. I think Fromm is a better fit for UGA's offense while Eason and Fields are better fits where they play now. That doesn't mean one is better than the others. Context.
-
true
most D-coordinators would rather not face the kid that can run
-
A mobile QB on a decent team has a better chance of upsetting a top level team than a very good static QB on a decent team. They do pose more problems for defenses.
He can at times simply dominate and have the game of his life and beat the better team.
-
The Fromm-Fields-Eason thing is interesting. I think UGA played it safe - Fromm helped win games, so don't mess with the success.
Yet both Alabama & Clemson - top programs - had Fromm-esque options starting at QB, but made the risky-ish change to a higher ceiling, but less known. I believe they both did so because they'd been at the top of the mountain for a few years. UGA was (Aug of last year) arriving and didn't want any additional risk.
If UGA had been a top program the previous 4-5 years, I say Fields stays and starts over Fromm, a la Bama (Tua) and Clemson (Lawrence).
-
Kordell Stewart's hail mary over Michigan was 25 years ago today. Jesus Christ. I'm old.

Maybe a rule that if if the trainers have to come out and attend to you then you have to sit out the rest of the drive. Maybe even the quarter.
I think the 1st time a player goes down it can be the same rule of missing the next play.
But if a player goes down a 2nd time, then I think they need to be attended to more than a play. How long does it take the body to absorb liquids to minimize cramping?
-
if a player goes down on the field and causes the clock to stop, he sits out the entire series.
If he's injured badly enough he can't get off the field under his own power he probably needs a few or more plays off.
if you want to play within the next couple of plays....... and your injury is to your shoulder or your arm, walk off the field, if your injury is to your right ankle or right thigh, hop off on your left leg
-

SO, I find this interesting because each thing is slightly different.
Clemson was kind of easy. Bryant was just fine. His starting year he was 66th in the country in YPA. He was a plus runner, but not a great one. It was kinda clear more talent could edge him. Lawrence is maybe the best QB draft prospect ever. This was kinda easy.
Bama was a little messier. Hurts was a top-25 guy in YPA. He was a high end plus runner. He led an offense that was 16th in points per drive and the best at avoiding turnovers in the land. The team only turned to Tua in desperate straits. Bama didn't give a super talented Tua the job until it had a title on the line and needed something (and after that, it was easier to bench). In retrospect, Tua probably shoulda started sooner, though it's not because Hurts was all that lacking.
UGA is this other kettle of fish. Eason has the ceiling, but his floor and average play are not very good. Fromm, I can't tell if he's a supercharged Scott Tolzien (gets the ball to the right spots, won't make more than a few plays that pop), or high-end pro-style passer in a system that makes him seem like a cog. Likewise, I can't tell if Fields is hyper developed or if OSU's system is good at making guys look good. I had the sense Fields looked a little rickety at times last year, though the numbers don't back that.
I mean, Lawrence beat Bryant, or got close enough they knew he was beating him soon. Tua beat Hurts eventually. It never quite seemed like Fields did THAT well last year, or made it close enough to split the difference.

Is a series a drive? Or just a set of downs?
-
The play-calling for Fields at UGA wasn't a normal sample. He had more rushing attempts than passing attempts. They used him to run the ball and pass in garbage time. And his passing numbers, while minimal, couldn't have been any better, really.
He wasn't given an opportunity to play his way to the starting role - UGA made its decision to not rock the boat.
-
Is a series a drive? Or just a set of downs?
I'd say in this context a "series" would be an entire drive-- sit out until a change of possession. Which for a defender obviously means you sit out the remainder of your opponent's drive, plus your own offense's drive, and then you can come back.
I agree that if you're injured bad enough to stop the clock and have the trainer out on the field, then sitting out one play certainly isn't enough time for the medical staff to evaluate you properly.
Bu I doubt we'll ever see that happen. And honestly, how can we expect the refs to monitor that?

Does it affect offense, or just defense? If it’s just defense, do teams cut block more because you can freak a guy out about his knee, and force a backup to play a crucial series? ( someone already mentioned this discouraged the use of trainers, right?)
The fallout seems high, and the payoff is HUNHs function slightly better?
-

for a shorthorn you're very insightful,I was gonna say something along those lines. If guys are really taking a dive and it appears they are in at least some instances there has to be a counter measure.A possesion/drive that's in the red zone might last a play then they're miraculously mended. With this implemented it will curb those tendencies somewhat.Of course they could always send a 3rd stringer out there to take a dive

Heck, the refs can't even monitor substitutions properly
but, this is why they have numbers on their jerseys

I've already said I don't see it ever being implemented, for multiple reasons. All we've done is name some obvious consequences, but I'd expect a multitude of potential unintended consequences.
With that said, watching your opponent's defense take 13 dives in a single game, demonstrates that ending such behavior would do more than just making the HUNH offense function "slightly" better. That many flops completely disables the HUNH offense. There's simply no way to run the HUNH when every single time the offense is trying to rush to the line to fire off a play while they perceive the defense is at a disadvantage, a defender flops to the ground, causing not only a disruption to the timing of the offense's attempts to run its game, but also allowing the defense an uncharged timeout and a substitution that otherwise would have been impossible.
Ultimately the only real consequence will be the end of the HUNH offense because it's incredibly easy to disrupt simply by flopping 13 times in a game, as long as there are no consequences for doing so. Some might view that as ok, others might lament that such an unsportsmanlike tactic was allowed to kill an entire offensive philosophy. I'll leave it to you, the reader, to decide. :)
-
well, since I'm no fan of the hurry up..........

Thank You Mr Crime Novelist,Okay 1st bring back O-Line using their hands like the defense. Then eliminate the chuck rule - no touchie at all by defenders.Or they can implement previous mentioned measures and like it.All in the name of Sportsmanship
-
:)
Anyway, I don't have much love for the HUNH offense either, except it's what my team currently likes to run and they do it pretty well. But not when a bunch of soccer-style floppers are gumming up the works.
Ah well, on to the next thing.

Is a series a drive? Or just a set of downs?
I don't like the term "drive" in the meaning that has crept into Sportscasterese the past couple of decades. A drive once meant moving the ball a considerable bit of yardage and at least threatening to score. As in, "A 5-minute, 14-play drive to open the 3rd quarter died on the Popcorn State 23 with a missed field goal attempt." Now it seems to mean a possession. But for me, 3 and out is not a drive.
A series is a set of downs. You get a first down, the series is over.
A possession lasts until the other team has the ball.

Agree with your first and third points, not sure I really agree with the second one I highlighted.
I mean, I guess I could agree with it, but in that case, I don't really think the term "series" has much meaning at all. It's more meaningful and more specific simply to say "set of downs." You go 3 and out, you had one set of downs. No real need to call it a series. If you manage a first down in your initial set of downs, well, now you're driving, but I don't think it makes any sense at all to say something like, "that drive entailed 4 series." That's just not very meaningful and is actually somewhat confusing.

Did Popcorn State ever play Iowa Pre-Flight?
From Wiki:
The United States Navy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy) commissioned pre-flight schools at the University of Georgia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Georgia), the University of Iowa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Iowa), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_North_Carolina_at_Chapel_Hill), and Saint Mary's College of California (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Mary's_College_of_California) in 1942. Cadets were given three months of rigorous physical training and instruction in basic aerial navigation and communications. Graduates were sent to basic flight schools and advanced flight training before assignment to the Pacific Fleet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Pacific_Fleet).
Athletics and training were emphasized at the schools. It was believed that the rigors of college football were ideal preparation for World War II. Numerous collegiate and professional athletes and coaches were recruited as instructors. They often played on or coached the football team of their respective school. Each team usually played established football powers in their respective region and other service academies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_service_academies).
Iowa Pre-Flight was coached by former Minnesota (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Minnesota) coach Bernie Bierman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Bierman) in 1942 and went 7–3. The Seahawks were coached by former Missouri (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Missouri) coach Don Faurot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Faurot) in 1943 and went 9–1. They finished second in the final AP Poll (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AP_Poll) and were named the service academy national champion. Iowa Pre-Flight was coached by former Auburn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auburn_University) coach Jack Meagher (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Meagher) in 1944 and went 10–1. They finished sixth in the final AP Poll.
Jim Tatum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Tatum) and Bud Wilkinson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_Wilkinson) both served as assistant coaches for the Seahawks under Faurot. Tatum went on to coach at Oklahoma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_Sooners_football) and Maryland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryland_Terrapins_football). While at Maryland, Tatum recorded a national championship, three conference championships, and a 73–15–4 record without a single losing season. Wilkinson went on to coach at Oklahoma, where he set an NCAA record with 47 consecutive wins. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Pre-Flight_Seahawks_football#cite_note-ou-1)

Yeah, Iowa Pre-Flight was legit. In 1943, their only loss was by 1 point at #1 ND.
Hmm, would be a great sleeper team to make for my game. Not sure about stats for them, though.

Bud Wilkinson had played for Bernie Bierman at Minnesota. He patterned much of his coaching philosophy and style after those of the Silver Fox.
Don Faurot invented the Split-T offense, while at Iowa Pre-Flight I believe. Wilkinson installed it at Oklahoma and won 3 MNCs, 2 fewer than Bierman had won at Minnesota.

If a team goes backwards and punts, is that a "drive"?
Cars do have a reverse gear. If you reverse you car and park it, is that a drive?
-
In that case, what's the difference between a series, a possession, and (as the term is now used) a drive?

These days? Not much, I guess.
I understand the distinctions you're trying to make, I just don't believe a sentence like "Well that drive consisted of 4 series and covered 57 yards, ending in a missed field goal" has much purpose or makes much sense. People wouldn't be clear that a "series" was taking the meaning of "a set of downs." This is probably why nobody says it that way, anyway.
Instead you'll hear, "Well that drive consisted of 13 plays, with 3 first downs, covered 57 yards and ended with a missed field goal." The latter makes more sense, contains more specificity, and paints a clearer picture of what happened. At least IMO. *shrug*

That drive netted minus 17 yards and ended in a punt after three plays and a penalty.
That drive ended after only three yards and a punt.
That drive covered 307 yards but ended in a bunker.

Chicks dig the long ball.

I've never head any announcer put it that way, any more than I've heard an announcer say how many footsteps a 50-yard run took.
A footstep is nevertheless different from a run.
This discussion of the meaning of "series" came about because of the suggestion that players should be suspended for a series. If the reg were written that way, apparently there would have to be clarification about what that meant. "Possession" would be clear, but some knuckleheads would think that "series" meant was the same thing.

A possession may be the better term, but I personally view that as a series. It gets a bit wanky if a player intercepts a ball and then fumbles it back perhaps, I 'd consider that a change of posses (x2) and new series.
