Horns 3, Minnesota 0
Next up, Stanford
-
Alas Brutus, I think I'm the only B12 fan that gives a rip about volleyball. That's why I post on the B1G thread instead of here.
So if you wanna talk B12 volleyball, I'm afraid you're going to have to interact with me, like it or not.
-
I like womens beach volleyball
does that count
-
I watch it because Texas is good at it. I've got no real idea about the strategy or nuances of the game.
I see "Ooh! Go get the ball!" and "Ooh! Good hit!".
-
Horns drop their first match of the season 2-3 out in Palo Alto, now we've got to bounce back against BYU. We owe them some payback, anyway!
-
Those were the first 2 sets Stanford has lost all year. Texas took them to 12-15 in the 5th at their place.
I still don't fully appreciate the nuances of what I'm watching, but I'm glad Texas is still good at it.
-
Yup, Horns will be fine. That's what I love about college volleyball, you don't get penalized for playing tough early OOC matches, it can only serve to help you both in preparation for the rest of the season, as well as in power rankings from the committee at the end of the season.
-
Horns took down BYU (and Wichita State) over the weekend. Next up, Rice, tomorrow.
And then on Friday... the Ags!
-
Horns lose to Rice, bummer.
Definitely need to take out some frustration on the Ags tomorrow night.

-
Thanks, don't really need it though. Between the B1G volleyball thread and this one, we're all set. :)
-
It was nice to see the Horns bounce back and beat the in-state Aggies 3-0 though. Now it's on to the conference slate, the Birds in a Blender come to Austin tomorrow.
-
Wouldn't nude volleyball rule? Because I think it would.

In theory, yes.
In practice you might wind up with schools like Cal Berkley rolling out a women's nude volleyball team full of athletes who merely "identify" as female.
-
Don't look now, but Baylor is ranked #2 at 10-0 with wins over ranked teams Creighton, Marquette, Wisconsin, Hawaii, and Missouri.
I thought the B12 kicked them out 5 or 7 years ago? Huh.

Yikes. That's not the jiggle I was looking for.
-
Iowa St put up a fight last night. Texas bled on the floor. Won 3-1.
-
Horns topple previously undefeated and #1-ranked Baylor in a sweep tonight in Austin.
Who's the cockroach NOW, huh????

Baylor has a great team, but the #1 ranking was kind of a trick of the light. They'd played a couple of top 10 teams this season, and are undefeated. Since no one else really was undefeated, Baylor was sort of #1 by default. They hadn't really faced much adversity.
Having been there and done that before goes a long way in sports. The Baylor girls are new at the top. Playing in someone else's hostile gym with a target on your back is a skill in itself. They just haven't had the experience yet. Last night's loss will do the entire team good when the NCAA time comes around.
All that, and Texas is probably currently the most complete team in volleyball.
-
Texas back line played maybe the best I've seen in years... or ever. That was fun to watch.
Serving still could use some work, but service errors were down last night and that's a difference-maker.
Baylor's good, they'd only lost two SETS all year prior to last night. Beating them in Waco in a few weeks will be a tall order, but if the Horns can continue to play as well as they did last night, then the sky's the limit for them this season.
-
Horns sweep OU in Norman last night, not a bad way to start the season. Now, due to coronavirus weirdness, we have to turn around and play them again today.
And I sure do miss all of the fun OOC matchups we usually see in the early season.
-
Cramming shoulder to shoulder and cutting up in old-arsed Gregory Gym in a sport that Texas is consistently good at! All things that make volleyball great!
Would be weird to see it in an empty, quiet gym.
-
Yup, strange times we're in.
-
Horns sweep Kansas last night in Austin, play 'em again tonight.
I didn't get a chance to watch any of yesterday's game but will definitely be watching tonight.
-
Horns sweep Kansas again to go to 4-0.
I can't tell you how great it is for my school to be a part of a conference that's playing volleyball this fall. It sure would suck to not have the chance to play. What a dick move that choice would have been, you know, for any dick-ass conference that made such a pathetic decision. I'm so glad my school's conference is smarter and better than all those loser conferences that aren't playing right now,
OK, Cool. Hook 'em!
-
Now all we gotta do is charge $85 per volleyball ticket and play in front of 120,000 people. We're clearly a volleyball school.
Ok, cool. Hook 'em. Sucking sucks!
-
word
-
Horns survive two tough matches against Baylor, both ended up 3-2.
Still undefeated on the season. Hook 'em!
-
Texas finished up the first half of the season undefeated, well done under difficult circumstances.

Now for the Grudge Match against the Huskers. :)

Texas to the Final Four.
Now to see if that ranking really was disrespect.

To be the best you have to beat the best, ranking or no.
Hopefully I'll be able to watch some of it.

Horns proceed to NC game to take on Tucky.

Texas is now Big 12 and Big 10 champion.
-
Ha!
I'm looking forward to actually getting to watch the Horns play tomorrow night. I invited friends over, should help me stay awake instead of falling asleep on the couch (again). :)

and the Lone Star State Champ after taking down the Huskers

and the Lone Star State Champ after taking down the Huskers
I don't know about that, there was that loss to Rice, after all. :'(
-
Huskers took down Texas St. and Baylor in the Tourney
Horns probably didn't want rematches with those two

No doubt. I heard that DeLo$$ Dodd$ himself came back from the AD graveyard and intentionally forced the committee to place us elsewhere in the bracket.
-
My daughter was with us for the week. She demanded we watch the match last night.
Turns out she cusses a lot more now. Wonder where she learned that?
Was glad Texas swept. I have a bedtime, and it was past it.
-
Ha! We're gettin' old.
My daughter plays and loves to watch soccer, but she's not much of a volleyball fan.
-
Friends and my brother came over, we had three TVs going for the Longhorn baseball game, volleyball game, and MLS game. If felt like a good, old-school sports weekend. It's nice to have things getting back to normal.
Regarding the NC volleyball match, man Kentucky was so clean on passing in sets 2-4, and Stumler just put on an absolute clinic. She was pretty much unstoppable. The Horns came out strong in the first set and played pretty well overall, but the Wildcats were just better all the way around for the majority of the match. If there were any Kentucky fans around, I'd offer sincere congratulations on their first ever NC.
-
Horns won the season-opener at LSU 3-1 over the weekend. It was switched from a regular game to an exhibition, but it's still a solid win over a team that's in the others receiving votes category.
Upcoming OOC games include #20 San Diego on Friday, then #7 Minnesota, #21 Stanford, Arizona, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and our nemesis-- the #23 ranked Rice Owls! :57:
-
seems like the last season ended a week ago
-
seems like the last season ended a week ago
Heh, well, it did sorta. Due to COVID the season extended into the Spring last year, but normally it's a Fall sport.
-
Horns beat #10-ranked Minnesota 3-1 up in Minneapolis. All sets tightly contested, and that's a great win in a faraway, hostile environment.
Now, on to #20 Stanford in Austin on Sunday.
-
good win
-
Horns sweep #20 Stanford here in Austin, next up, the Texas State Armadillos.
-
Horns have won matches against Arizona, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M, all 3-1.
Next up, a road match in Houston against the dreaded Rice Owls!

Volleyball school
I wish. It's been a decade since we last won a volleyball NC.
We're a swimming and diving school.
-
We're a gym school.
But UT has good beisbol, that will help y'all fit in around here. Lots of SEC schools love their baseball. I never made it to Disch Faulk, BUT maybe I will one day, and I definitely recommend any college baseball fan take a trip to the Box.
-
Honestly, I enjoy going to baseball games a lot more than football games. Mostly because there's less pressure, there are so many of them, that each and every one is not do or die. Plus, baseball is just a more relaxed sport. Oh, and parking and entrance/egress are much easier, with fewer fans.
Playing beisbol in the SEC is going to be a lot of fun.
-
All true.
I would not necessarily say baseball in Baton Rouge has a relaxed feel though. 10k rowdy fans who think they're at a football game makes for a pretty good time. I think I prefer it that way to the more usual sterile crowds baseball attracts. Some part of this fanbase has to be rowdy 'cuz lord knows the football crowd can't be bothered to fill the place up anymore.
-
Baseball crowds in Austin are still into it. You should go to a game at Disch-Falk, then you'll see what I mean.
-
I remember my days at UT during baseball season if there was a day game more then likely a few classes would be skipped
-

Yup. In the spring I'd do my best to set up my schedule with all morning classes, just so I was free and clear for baseball games in the afternoon.
Many, many days of morning classes, then lunch at The Posse, and then walking over to the Disch for an afternoon of sunshine and memoriies.
-
On top of a really bad day of football, the Longhorn volleyball team also lost its first match of the season up in Waco yesterday, 3-1. They split the season series with the Bears, taking the first match 3-0, the prior day.
Bummer, but hopefully they can learn and grow from it.
-
Horns won their first round match against Sacred Heart, and play the second round tomorrow against Rice. Texas swept the Owls in Houston earlier this season and should win again tomorrow, but ya never know. Rice was Texas' sole regular-season loss last season.
Baylor won its first round against TAMCC, and will play Wazzu tomorrow in the second round.
Kansas won its first round against Oregon, and will play host Creighton tomorrow in the second round.
ISU, KSU, TTU, and WVU all open their first round matches tomorrow.
-
Horns sweep Rice, on to the Sweet 16!
Kansas eliminated host Creighton 3-1 and is through to the Sweet 16.
Baylor eliminated Wazzu and is on to the Sweet 16.
ISU, KSU, WVU, and Tech lose their first round matches and are out.
-
The Huskers advance to the volleyball Sweet 16 with a sweep of Florida State and now will face Illinois in Austin.
-
Yes... come to Butthead...
-
Tonight's the big night!
Horns face off against U-Dub in the Austin regional, winner of that match will play the winner of Nebraska and Cinderella Illinois.
Kansas also takes on 3rd-seeded Pitt and Baylor faces Minnesota.

-
Whew.
Horns hang on while down early 2-0, to win 3-2.
-
Came back on Saturday night to have "one of those matches".
Nothing would go where it was supposed to. Service errors. Just constantly bricking the setup pass. Blocks full of gaps. Just all around out of sync.
Not something you can do against a quality group like Nebraska. They didn't miss, and deserved to advance.
-
Services errors, bad serve receive, bad defense all the way around. Just wasn't our night and really, it wasn't our weekend, but our hitters were just a little too much for Washington. Not so with Nebraska.
There's pretty much a pattern here, and I'm not sure "always a bridesmaid" is good enough. Especially after seeing the same problems year after year despite the differences in personnel. Could be time to make a move from our current coaching staff.
-
Horns dispatched Fairleigh Dickinson in Austin tonight with efficient effort. 13 service aces was a season high.
Next up tomorrow night will be CD's Georgia Bulldogs, who took out Towson.
-
On to the Final 4. Will this be the year Texas is the bride and not the bridesmaid?

Corngrats on a great season and deserved title!

So I guess the coaches get to hang around for another year?

with a fat contract extension

Congrats to the Lady Horns!
-
So I guess the coaches get to hang around for another year?
Yes, they are allowed to be on annual contracts. If they don't win the NC again next year, they're fired.

sounds reasonable to me
