Title: #9 Ohio State (4-0, 6-1) at Nebraska (2-2, 3-4) Post Game
Post by: MaximumSam on October 11, 2017, 01:18:06 PM
7:30 pm on FS1

Why FS1?  Because they wanted me to upgrade stupid SlingTV from Blue to Orange+Blue.  Or did I have Orange? I dunno and I'm cancelling it Monday.  But apparently the Indians game is on FS1, so I guess I'll try to watch that tonight.  Maybe.  More likely my herd of girls will take over the television and watch Youtube.

Anyways, Nebraska.  OSU won 62-3 last year.  OSU seems better this year, and Nebraska seems worse.  So it will probably be a tight game.

Riley's likely coaching for his job right now.  He may have to beat tOSU to justify keeping him around another year, but it's not likely to happen.  They did play UW tight for most of the game last week, so who knows.

Generally speaking, teams don't usually look so good the week after they play UW. I went against that line of thinking last week and it bit me.

OSU romps in this one.

I moved in May and swore off cable forever.  I got SlingTV for football season, which has been ok.  I knew they didn't have the BTN, but didn't even think about Fox Sports 1.  I'm stuck in the house this weekend so had to bite the bullet.

I keep picking good weeks to avoid the TV.  I'm not going to see this one either.   Some folks in town, and will likely be out and about.   Doesn't seem like I'm going to missing anything exciting.

Not sure I would say OSU is better, but little Red is looking bad. Real Bad. So , I agree with your assessment that it will be a tight game.
Having a party for the game, wife is hoping for a blow out so guys will interact on a level deeper than just football talk.

One of the few times where I expect a beating to commence (sans Billy C era, where I was all in on betting against Nebraska).  Two OBs vs the Canes, a couple OU games,  and last year's tOSU game.
I'll probably be off the board til Monday, so enjoy the game guys.

Yeah, my buddy was saying that too.  Seems too complicated to sit in my sun room and watch television though.  I checked out the FS1 Sling service last night while watching the Indians lose.

Before you buy the internet on the plane make sure you check the fine print. I did this a couple of years ago only to find that it was not capable of streaming.

BTW Nebraska fans, does Mike Riley need a win here to keep his job?  I was listening to a Nebraska podcast that seemed to think they should just keep him because there weren't any realistic options.  They mentioned Scott Frost but didn't think he would come.

Well last year OSU blew out both Oklahoma and Nebraska while they were each ranked in the top ten.

The Buckeyes've already been destroyed by a far worse Oklahoma team that lost to Iowa St and almost lost to Baylor.

So it stands to reason that Nebraska would be in a strong position to do the exact same thing as Oklahoma did.

I've see this too. You have to wonder how physically beat up Nebby is? And after hanging with Wisky for 2 and half quarters to get crushed how beat up they are mentally?

Haven't got to watch much of Nebraska this year.  The thing that sticks out from the stats is Tanner Lee having 10 picks in 6 games.  None of his other stats are all that good, but they throw a lot.  It looks like Nebraska is constantly chucking it, with poor success.  This is a bad recipe against OSU.  Nebraska needs to try and establish the run game and keep Lee from having to drop back and throw 50 times.

Hmmm, I'd argue that throwing it is the way to beat OSU. See Indiana and OU.
I thought Maryland would give a better game since they had that big wide out; but they didn't throw to him and get whipped.

Indiana had a good game plan of getting quick throws to their giant wideouts within 2 seconds.  OSU came out in man and had to adjust as the game went on.  Oklahoma presented a different problem, as OSU made a conscious effort to keep Mayfield in the pocket.  However, the back seven did not respond well to the RPO's and other looks.
Neebraska doesn't have a mobile QB or giant NFL receivers, so I don't think they can duplicate those looks.  If they just try to drop back and OSU can tee off on the QB, I don't think it will end well for Nebraska.

after the Northern Illinois loss I guessed that Riley needed to win the west to keep his job.  After losing to the Badgers, the only way he can accomplish this is to upset the Bucks.
all really depends on the new AD and the options for Riley's replacement

I'm leaving for Lincoln in an hour, first to the golf course there, then to Buzzard Billy's in the Haymarket near campus for food and drink with a large group.  Stop by if you're in town Buck fans.  Well, Husker fans too.  Perhaps Rabid Rattlesnake Boy will appear.....

Sharkwater party starts tomorrow morning rain or shine

forecast for Saturday and kickoff look crappy

maybe I can get a good ticket for $20

I didn't watch the game due to conflicts, but ex players on twitter were suggesting UNL was attacked in similar fashions to last week vs Wisky.

All I know is Purdue was within 10 of Wisky.. and Iowa has only had 50 pts hung on them once during KF tenure.   UNL is poorly coached and the players have given up.  So have I... I guess.

Nebraska deserves better than this. The sport is just better when they are good. Just as a fan of the sport- it would've been so much better to see a competitive back and forth game between two helmet/blue-bloods. Nobody wants to see Nebraska get blown off their own field.

I still think Nebraska has got to go and get Chip Kelly. Riley was never the man for the job to begin with in the first place. That hire always baffled me. Chip is sitting out there at home. If I'm Nebraska I dump Riley now and hire Chip. Why wait?  He's not coaching another team- he could take over the job immediately and start recruiting and they could let someone be the interim coach for the remaining 5-6 games.

well, the Sharkwater tailgate was a success as usual

a few Buckeye fans shuffled through, good people

Rabid Rattlesnake Boy was there, Old Scribe and his wife B.G. were there.  Was good talking about old times on the boards

the ex players that tailgate there every week have given up on Coach Riley, even before the blowout

I did not even inquire about ticket prices - stayed at the tailgate and watched the first half on TV.  Packed up and went back to the hotel before the 4th quarter started.  Sad state of affairs.............

I get that Nebraska isn't all that right now under Riley- but I still kinda agree with temp. I was never that down on Ohio State. Meyer always has a history of clunker games here and there, but his teams always get better throughout the year.
Ohio State has a lot of speed on offense. Paris Campbell can fly and Mike Weber and JK Dobbins is the best 1-2 RB punch in the conference by a long shot.

5 TD passes

LOL,

Barrett played a great game. but I think a lot of the turnaround has to do with 1) Poor competition, 2) I think the WRs have finally started to turn into something. lets not forget Oklahoma's defense has been shredded by just about everyone, except for Ohio St.

It'll be more interesting to see how it goes when a D line can put some pressure on JT, ala penn st, Mich St and Michigan.

But, there's no denying JT is looking great, throwing a good ball, making good decisions, running for purpose not because he's scared or confused. He dare I say it, looks like the freshman JT that finished 5th in the Heisman.

of course any QB is helped by having 2 RB's that are playing very well too.

Alittle late, but still........I completed my B10 Stadium visit with this game!  I watched Ohio State WIN in every B10 Stadium (as of 2017 season LOL), even though the goal was just to visit each stadium, the winning was an added bonus.  While the drive to Nebraska was long and not very exciting, the trip was well worth it.  I will say that the Nebraska fan base has to be one the best group of fans in CFB.  They have a huge football tradition, and love the Huskers.  They were hospitable and great to talk with, not just about football but their home state.  The Capitol Building was amazing to visit.  The stadium was bigger than I thought, old school in nature and even though the game was over by the half, a lot of folks stayed the whole time.  Student section emptied out fast, but no surprise on that one.  The local atmosphere was very enjoyable and loved the LaVosh.  Several great brews were sampled and a few found their way back East.  A great time!

Yes, yes I did, however, we were invited to tailgate by some very fine folks we met while enjoying a few of the 132 taps at the Hop Cat.  We were behind the Journal Star building, near the overpass.  It was a good time and the folks were all very friendly.

There is definitely variance amongst places like this.   They do use proper barware which is a good sign.  I remember having a very sour ale poured in a full pint glass at another place like HopCat.  I was like, wtf are you doing?   First, you're giving me a 16oz pour of this beer, which I'm not complaining, but not really in their interest, but that's not how you serve that beer.   I do like the HopCat in Indy.
