Last week was the nail in the coffin for MSU's bowl hopes. The bright side is that the offense finally started to work. But they dug a hole, committed too many penalties, and ran about the worst 2 point play I've ever seen.
Northwestern's offense might be the most fun unit in the country, and I'm happy to see Aidan Chiles have success after Jonathan Smith failed to build an offense to match his skill set in East Lansing.
Northwestern 31, Michigan State 21

Yeah, Chiles seems like a completely different player now.

I think we're all sleeping on Northwestern (well, not us, but the media). I doubt this game is as close as 10. 34-6?

Spread opened as NW -5.5 and moved to -7.5
I still put coin on the Cats

Oof. Betting against your own team is rough.

Emotional game for Fitz.

I'll do the $10 emotional hedge bet. Particularly if MSU is favored, I'll be the ML against them.
Here, this seemed like way too small a line

I did it once. Never again. The joy of winning a bet is cheapened and hollow when your team has to lose to get there.
-
I think the point is that you win either way. If your team wins you're happy. If not, you get paid.

I get it. I'm saying I've done it. Winning a bet when you've betrayed your team and they still lost makes it dirty money.
It's emotional and irrational. But... They call us fan[atic]s for a reason.

I had to do something back in the day to cope with Sooner Magic
yes, it felt dirty, but $100 was a lot of money when I was in college
10 bucks wouldn't have been enuff to make me feel better

So, what's holding MSU back? Administration? Supporters? MSU has of course had solid teams in the past, I don't know when the last good team was, 1893 it seems....

They were #8, 11-2 in 2021. Before that, 10-3 in 2017. Then the 3 year run from 2013-2015, when they had three straight top 5 finishes
I think Dantonio try to capitalize on that run by recruiting bigger fish. while he landed his best ever class in 2016, they were a character disaster. he over corrected, and while early on, he was good at identifying talent that others were overlooking, his 2017 to 2020 run, essentially just seen based on flipping MAC commits, and they looked the part.
Since then, It has been too many self-interested parties, pulled in opposite directions. multiple presidents, multiple ADs, a board of trustees that seems to be in it more to enrich themselves. at one point we had two different NIL collectives fighting to be the superior one, one of whom decided mid-season to pull all of their funding. It has been an administrative disaster for almost a decade. thrown back to back bad head coaching hires, and this is what you get. The jury is still out on whether it is three bad coaching hires in a row

Fitz had the ultimate gig at Northwestern, where you are a legend if you are good once every four years. His last four years, he had three losing seasons, but the other was a Big Ten CCG appearance.
Only being good once every four years will get you canned at most places. Even Michigan State.
