Who is the most surprising team anywhere on that list? Houston? Clemson? I'd go with Missouri, knowing almost nothing about that team.

And in Dallas it's also probably legal to K5H, so I mean, there's not really anything holding them back anymore.

Who is the most surprising team anywhere on that list? Houston? Clemson? I'd go with Missouri, knowing almost nothing about that team.
In a way, for me it is Alabama. #11 certainly isn't bad and most schools would be thrilled to be ranked that high but at the height of Saban's run, that would have been shocking.
From 2016 through 2021 they were only outside of the top-5 for the last three polls of 2019 (9th after their loss to Auburn dropped them to 10-2, stayed there after the CCGs, 8th after beating #17 Michigan in the Citrus Bowl).
In the 11 seasons from 2011 through 2021 they only spent two weeks outside of the top-10. They lost in September, 2015 to Ole Miss and that dropped them to #12 then an unimpressive 34-0 win over UL-Monroe the next week dropped them to #13 but they kept on winning and ended up 14-1 and National Champions.
For some context:
From 2011 through 2021 there were 180 total polls. Alabama was ranked in all of them. There is a dropoff after that:
- 180 Bama 100%
- 173 Oklahoma 96.1%
- 165 Ohio State 91.7%
- 165 Clemson 91.7%
- 147 Georgia 81.7%
- 141 LSU 78.3%
- 137 Notre Dame 76.1%
- No other teams were over 75%
Alabama was top-10 in 178 of the 180 polls (98.9%) and there is a big dropoff:
- 178 Bama 98.9%
- 142 Ohio State 78.9%
- 121 Clemson 67.2%
- 105 Georgia 58.3%
- 102 Oklahoma 56.7%
- No other teams were over 50%.
Alabama was top-5 in 167 of the 180 polls and the dropoff behind that is enormous:
- 167 Bama 92.8%
- 96 Clemson 53.3%
- 95 Ohio State 52.8%
- No other teams were over 50% or for that matter 40%.
