Title: OT Best 80's Movie Round 1 #4 War Games vs 13 Field Of Dreams
Post by: Gigem on August 01, 2026, 06:52:46 PM
(4) WarGames vs. (13) Field of Dreams

(4) WarGames (1983)
Home computers, arcades, hacking, nuclear war, and Cold War anxiety make WarGames one of the purest early-’80s time capsules. It introduced an entire generation to the possibilities—and dangers—of connected computers while asking whether technology could accidentally bring the world to the edge of destruction.
(13) Field of Dreams (1989)
Field of Dreams is not visually loud or stereotypically ’80s, but few films from the decade have demonstrated greater emotional staying power. Its baseball imagery, father-and-son themes, Iowa cornfield, and famous lines remain widely recognized. It earned its place by transcending the decade rather than visually defining it.

War Games by a big margin.    Movie screams 80s, and it is a fantastic movie.

Doesn't get more 80s than using an old Imsai 8080 with dual 8" floppies and 300 baud dialup to hack a secret government computer.

Another case of one being very 80s and the other being a better movie, although both are great.

That’s what makes it so fun.

Plus, think about the staying power of War Games.  None of these guys were big stars when it came out. Certainly not Mathew Broderick.

Would you like to play a game”.

Hot damn I'd piss on a sparkplug if I thought it'd do any good.

Mr. McKittrick, after careful consideration I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks.
