Title: OT: Your favorite song of all time
Post by: betarhoalphadelta on July 27, 2026, 02:43:28 PM
This might be a short thread b/c people can't exactly easily be repeat posters with new information.

Do you have a favorite song?

The family was talking about this last night... I can't come up with one. I figure I could probably scroll my Spotify playlist and maybe find a handful of contestants, but if I can't name it up front without looking, is it really my all-time favorite song?

What say you?

You know we've got not one but two active music threads on the B12 board.  It's okay to venture away from the B1G board.  It's just, like, one extra click.

Anyway it'd be impossible for me to name a favorite song.  I probably have a top 50 I could define, but beyond that it's about my mood and the current vibe, which one would be my favorite at any given time.

Freeeeeeeeee Birrrrrrrrrrrrrrd!

Literally cannot tell you how many times I've heard that from bandana-wearing, Harley-riding, unkempt beard-having miscreants.  That, or "Gimme some Skynyrd!"  (I actually LOL'd at the part in Song Sung Blue when an archetype of this person yelled the same thing at Hugh Jackman's character.)

Eventually, a weary combination of "I've heard this too many times" and "YOLO, lessee what happens" gets to you, and the only proper response is flipping the bird and yelling back "I got your free bird right here!"  Some of them take that well, some of them don't.

So this actually happens in real life and isn't some trope?

I've been around some rough customers and have never heard it.

But I've heard plenty of IZOD wearing yuppies say that's what THEY say.  And I've seen it in movies, of course.

Seems to be more plausible than Bigfoot, however I've never seen either in the wild.

Yep. We went to a Journey tribute show a few months back and left as that song started in the final encore.

Beat traffic and spared myself another hearing of that thing.

I love that song but I can admit it's way overdone.

Freebird on the other hand sucks and was never any good.

I think they're both good songs. Never want to hear either one of them again.

Don't Stop Believing was a good song. It worked out well for the 2005 Sox.

That's about when I had enough of it.

Freebird

I've got two for ya.

It's been "requested" (more like a demand hurled in the face) at more dives and festivals than I can recall.  All my old bandmates from a few different bands/areas have a joke about it.  I texted several of them as my wife and I recently watched Song Sung Blue, just laughing at old times.

Most all of them were not belligerent.  But it's a real thing.  Dumbest thing was, in most cases, it should've been obvious from the music we were already playing that we were going to eventually get to Freebird.

At Fantasy Camp, one of the players had his 10 year old son with him who served as bat boy (he did a terrific job).  Additionally, he asked us all for our walk up song, which he  then played just before we batted.  It was pretty awesome, even if he was playing it from a cell phone.

You might guess mine ... he played it any time I came into relieve also, ...
