Both teams are coming off of very low scoring games with each team scoring just 10 points their last time out. Miami beat aTm 10-3 in the CFP first round while Ohio State lost 13-10 to Indiana in the B1GCG. So now they face each other with tOSU -9.5 and an O/U of 42.5. FWIW, Vegas is thus predicting something like a 26-16 or 26-17 Ohio State win.
Series history:
Ohio State leads the series 3-2 and won by far the biggest game in the series. Ohio State won the 2003 Fiesta Bowl aka 2002 BCSNCG 31-24 in 2OT. None of the other games involved NC contenders:
- Ohio State won 10-0 in Columbus on 9/10/1977. The Buckeyes finished 9-3 and #11 that year while Miami finished 3-8 and unranked.
- Miami won 23-12 at the Meadowlands in NJ in the 1999 Kick-off Classic on 8/29/1999. The Hurricanes finished 9-4 and #23 that yere while Ohio State finished 6-6 and unranked.
- Ohio State won 31-24 in 2OT in the aforementioned Fiesta Bowl / BCSNCG on 1/3/2003.
- Ohio State won 36-24 in Columbus on 9/11/2010. The Buckeyes finished 12-1 and #5 while Miami finished 7-6 and unranked.
- Miami won 24-6 at home (home being a nearby NFL stadium) on 9/17/2011. Both teams finished around .500 and unranked.

I think if OSU can apply pressure on Beck consistently, he'll rattle and they win rather easily.
-
I don't know how to predict anything involving OSU, as their most recent outing was so different than the rest of their season. Except for their defense, which was still obscene in a good way.
If Miami can't score, they can't win.
-
My GUESS is they win easily, something like 27-10, a never in doubt kind of game.
I find the Indy-Bama game more intriguing.
-
Indy might shutout the Tide

Not so fast my friend.

They might, or hold them to 10 or less, which is about the same thing. I suspect we'd all agree that overall Bama has a clear talent edge, which might not mean much, so did OSU.
Bama's major major weakness is inability to run the ball, which in CFB of course is a terrible weakness to have. Will they figure that out against a stout run D? Seems unlikely.

I think the talent is pretty good at Indiana - coach seems to have an eye for talent, coaches it up and spends wisely in the portal

Cignetti is a different dood.
I saw an interview and when he evaluates transfers, he looks for production over STARZ.
Smart man.

the Buckeyes didn't appear to have much better talent - especially in the trenches

Well, looks like Miami was a lot better than I gave them credit for. Not sure how to feel about it, I was a little peeved we only scored 3, but proud we held them to 10 total points.
So far this season, Miami beat ND, aTm, and Ohio State. They should be a top contender for the final.

fMiami.

agreed

Was Conner Stallions on Miami’s sideline?

Cristobal has taken plenty flak for his foibles, but his recipe thus far is solid - Trenches, defense, $$$ to acquire talent, very good coordinators.

When is a bye a bad thing?

How an 8-team CFP was bypassed is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is that the decision-makers are NFLcentric.
As you all know, I abhor the inability/unwillingness for the masses to differentiate college and NFL football, basically in any and every situation.
If they're the same, college is an inferior product, plain and simple.
Differentiated, college is far better.
Why the college decision-makers are willfully working towards an inferior product is stone cold fuck nuts.

Well for starters NCAA & the Networks never put it to the Highest Authority - US
