Mornin' all running out 1st thing to get some Rogue Ale if there's any still on the shelves.Thanx for the heads up Bwarb
No. 18 Michigan @ Northwestern(Wrigley Field), 12:00 FOX The potential for M* is there but the execution/experience during plays has been erratic & unpredictable. And their 2 losses have been on the road but the week off should help. M*which moved up in the College Football Rankings from a debut at No. 21 to No.18. Fun fact: Northwestern has never won at Wrigley & M* has won 13 of the last 14 games between the two
No.21 Iowa at No.17 USC, 3:30 BTN How will Iowa bounce back from its most deflating loss yet of the 2025 season? We’ll see. But consider this fanciful stat: The last 10 times that the Hawkeyes lost a regular-season game, they bounced back with a victory in their next contest. BUT USC is 5-0 @ Home in 2025 with an average victory margin of 30.4 points. IOWA hopes slowdown USC passing attack that averages 303 yards per game through the air. However So.Cal's running game averages 5.81 yards per carry, No. 8 nationally & Hawks really struggled to slow Oregon
Oklahoma @ Alabama, 3:30 ABC - if OU can get by Bama for the second year in a row, they have two home games with a shot at 10-2 and, almost certainly, a spot in the CFP. Alabama didn't get off the bus in last year's 24-3 loss to OU. But this year, they win and it's in the SEC Championship if Texas loses any of its last three games.
No. 10 Texas at No. 5, 7:30 ABC A rematch of the SEC Championship Game -- Georgia beat Texas 22-19 in overtime last December -- marks the first time the Longhorns will play at Sanford Stadium, Texas has won 4 games. They haven't run well, and you never know if you're getting good Arch or bad Arch. But it's winning, the defensive front is eating up everyone. They had a great game V. The Sooners but Mateer was banged up. And they had to go to OT V. Kentucky & Mississippi State. Georgia has been the find-a-way to win team or just chummy with Satan himself. How do you beat Kirby's team? Pay off the officials or heave the damn rock so Arch will have to put his stamp on the season
TCU@ No.12 BYU. 10:15 ESPN - not that anyone here cares but might be a good game. BYU didn't look like one of the nation's better teams last weekend in a 29-7 loss to No. 6 Texas Tech during a conference showdown @ TT. The loss means the Cougars likely need to win each of their final three regular-season games -- and probably win impressively -- to land a spot in the College Football Playoff. BYU missed out last season when it was 10-2 on the selection day. Against TCU, BYU has lost five straight games -- four by 25 or more points — most recently falling 44-11 in 2023 in Fort Worth
Coffee's done and I'm out the door

Morning Nubbz!
I'm sipping coffee while my dogs annoy me. One had a sore on his ear that neither of them would leave alone, so now he's wearing a cone of shame.
Gym here in a bit, then the store. I have a bad habit of buying random stuff that's on sale during the week, and now I need to cook it. Have some puff pastry, skirt steak, chicken thighs, and other random things I need to do something with today.
But really looking forward to the football. For one, it's pretty warm today, so I can watch in the sun room. Plus good games on all day.
Noon: Will flip between ND-Pitt and Michigan-NW. Auburn North still in the playoff mix but NW can be sneaky tough.
3:30: Flipping between Bama-OU and USC-Iowa.
Evening. Buckeyes and Georgia-Texas.
-
Minnesota played another good team last night.
Oh, and F Oregon too.
-
slept in this morning, was out too late last night
sippin coffee and tryin to decide if I should play golf or watch football this afternoon (gonna be 63 & breezy)
interested in Hawks @ Trojans

https://awfulannouncing.com/college-football/iowa-usc-big-ten-network.html
Nice article explaining how Iowa-USC ended up on BTN instead of a major network.
I am still not sure if I understand this. There is a clause each Big Ten school must play 1 conference game on BTN and at least 2 games total on BTN. Neither Iowa or USC have played a conference game on BTN yet, invoking the clause somehow for this week's game.
-
poor planning - but, a win for the BTN
-
I'm pretty sure each team must have at least one home game on BTN too.
-
Well in my quest for Rogue Ale,no such luck but the guy on the corner said he'll pull some aside if any comes in. Plus I came back with a sixer of Shiner's Holiday Cheer so that's a Win. Have a Funeral today unfortunately so I won't be catching much of the early games, be making some chili later as the weather starts to turn.
Hopefully UCLA doesn't have any surprises left under the lights tonite but they have nothing to lose and will be playing loose. The game between these two is eerily similar to the 1980 contest when Terry Donahue's Bruins (who were5-6 the year before) dumped the No.2 ranked Buckeyes in the 'Shoe 17-0 :-[. Hopefully we'll have none of that

Did not sleep well last night. Snuck in a nice little workout, although I’m running behind because of some marathon traffic. Trying to decide if it’s worth seeing if any Wisconsin fans are congregating at the usual Wisconsin bar, since I haven’t been there much this season.
I’m guessing no, but we’ll see.

Gym, shower, coffee ready. Very rainy weekend here in Southern California.
Quite a packed Noontime slot; way too many worthwhile games for me to follow each one.
Looking forward to Florida @ #7 Ole Miss and especially #10 Texas @ #5 Georgia this evening.

A&M fans will feel so vindicated if they lose today.
Yes, a surprisingly negative, defeatist fan base.
Mike Elko agrees to a massive extension this week, and (who knew!?) he and his team don't show up. But give'em a break. Not even quite lunchtime in Texas.

LSU down 14-0 to a bad Hogs team. I see they've mimicked the Florida giving-up-on-the-season tactic.

Badgers came to play. The true freshman QB looks the part, and the D looks solid.

Maybe Brian Kelly is coaching them again since he wasn't fired

Indiana saw how OSU was getting crapped on for blowing out everyone, so they are just playing to the crowd. 4D chess by Cignetti

A&M continues to implode
-
USCe with a 1-play, 80-yard TD, lol.
A&M is cooked. The dynamics of it:
1 - Aggie fans have their fears realized
2 - this may keep them out of the SECCG
3 - their playoff spot is safe
A world where 2 and 3 are true isn't a world I want to be in. Ugh.

15.5 point underdog is up 30-3 at the half @ Kyle Field. A&M has -9 yds rushing, zero 3rd down conversions, and Heisman hopeful QB is 6-19 with 2 INTs.
Holy shit.

In blink of eye, about to be 20-10, now 30-3.

Hope that WI RB is okay, it doesn't look like he can move his legs.

Beamer's not gonna be allowed on the team bus. Fired by text in the locker room, is my guess.
-
Watching Northwestern is why MSU has no excuse. It's tough in this era to be OSU, Oregon, Michigan. And Indiana hit the absolute home run hire. But Northwestern going toe to toe with Michigan, trying to get bowl eligible. No reason for MSU to not at least be that in a down year
-
Michigan could be in trouble at Wrigley

Underwood has the metrics but that wasn't a Heisman moment

Damnit Michigan I was gonna take a nap

Sellers is 2-5 for 7 yards since starting the 2nd half with a 15 yard completion.
He wasn't particularly good in the first half aside from one throw. He had an 80 yard catch and run that went like 73 yards on the ground due to bad tackling and angles
-
Michigan really shooting themselves in the foot today, making many mistakes today.
Mich is actually lucky to be down only by 1 right now. NW settled for FGs 3 times today.

Bowls were talked about. Programs getting bowl-eligible was mentioned. As the regular season wound down, prognosticators started evaluating which bowls each team might get into. The NC was a discussion of course, but it had to be a limited discussion because by week 9-10, the number of teams still having a realistic chance were generally counted on one hand.
Now, the only thing talked about is the CFP.
As Badge said, maybe this doesn't seem like a change to you, since your team was always in the NC discussion. So it's all you paid attention to. Now it's all there is.
-

In the 6 1/2 years I lived in the Midwest and could drive, I had to scrape my windows, brush snow off, etc many dozens of times. I even had probably 5-6 times that I was struggling with iced over car door locks.
In the 23 years I've lived in CA, I've never had my house destroyed by a wildfire and have never had a single thing damaged by an earthquake.

Before Cable TV, they didn't even have minor bowl games.
The games are still on TV. You can still search out articles about what bowls teams might get into.
We still have threads on here about it.
What am I missing? That Stephen A Smith doesn't talk about it as much? Did he ever?

Sure, but they're already rich, so.....

I'm all in on the playoff era. Obviously the Buckeyes benefit. But I underestimated how great everything else would be. Michigan-NW would mostly be an exhibition by now, but because of the playoffs it has real weight. A ton of games have meaning now whereas in past seasons only a handful of games meant anything by this point in the season. It rocks.
-
Interesting take coming from a fan of a blueblood, but I respect it.
I obviously want the end of season to be exclusive, but it has been frustrating with the playoff expanding only now, after Florida's downturn when an expanded playoff would have found us in it 4-5 times despite an otherwise disappointing decade-plus.
In the 12-team format, Florida would have been in it in 2012, 2018-19-20. Oh well.

Crazy shit in the Iron Bowl? Never

This is why I disagree with Sam's take.....while he's completely correct that more teams are in play for a spot, the highest-ranked teams have less and less stakes the later we get into the season. And I don't care if it's Florida, an SEC rival, or some far-flung team like Oregon or Ohio State, big-time games late in the year were SPECIAL. Tension. Heroes and goats (the bad kind) created. The pinnacle of fandom is now gone, so that far more 'fans' of good/not great teams can have more motive to watch.
No tanks, mon.
-
Its not basketball. The better teams still win in the CFP. This creates stakes that ultimately dont matter

I don't even think that Penn State and Notre Dame did.
-
I dunno about that. Last year was wide open. This year looks wide open, too.
The equivalent of a 2 seed won last year. If thats as wide ipen as it gets, I stand by my point. You could make it a 64 team tournament, and I bet youd never get anything lower than a 2 seed winning it
-
Really?
Do honestly believe that Clemson, Tennessee, SMU, Indiana, ASU, and Boise St had a chance?

That leaves four teams with a chance, which is more than most years of the four team CFP. But also yea they did. ND with a much better chance if they played Texas.

I'd gladly pay $1,000 a game to never have to watch this buffoon coach another game at Michigan.
if anyone was on the fence that he's not the guy- that ugly ass win should've proved it to them that he ain't.
they are 100000% losing on the road to Maryland next week. book it.

I think we are all on the same side. The expanded playoff is better. It makes more games matter, but in the end, you actually get the best teams. 2 and 4 didnt do either of those things

lm guessing they didnt want to do anything until whatever NCAA penalties were handed down, so that they could (a) sell whatever coach on the full picture, and (b) have Moore in place as a scapegoat if things went bad.
The thing is, its not great, but its also not bad. If there was some obvious target, then sure. But is there? And its not like they are going 5-7 and HAVE to do something

I disagree. I felt that TX/tOSU was for the NC last year because I didn't think PSU/ND had a chance no matter the match-up.
I felt that four teams had a plausible shot last year. One of them won it, two lost to that one, and the fourth got upset by Notre Dame.

It's weird when people come up with all these other reasons FOR something when it's literally just a money grab. More teams = more (casual) fans/eyeballs/clicks = more money.

I'm not sure what this means? Georgia already lost to an Alabama team that has lost to Florida State and Oklahoma-- the same Oklahoma team that got whipped by Texas.
So... yeah... no... whatever.
