Title: BigTen Power Rankings Heading Into Week 12
Post by: ManHawk on November 09, 2025, 06:21:58 AM
What does everybody think?  I made a suble change today to how I name this weekly thread going forward.  Instead of calling it the BigTen Power Rankings After Week 11,  I now am now going to refer to the week coming up,  which is week 12 this time.  I am confident this will not confuse anybody too much

My Rankings are in a post below.
Title: Re: BigTen Power Rankings Heading Into Week 12

1.  Ohio St - continues to dominate

2.  Indiana -  Mendoza and the Hoosiers had possibly one the greatest last minute TD drives I have seen in thrilling win at Penn St.  Just amazing.  Some weeks you thrive and some weeks you survive.  A championship contender needs to do both.  Weird to think about Mendoza has thrown 4Q picks in close games on the road against Iowa, Oregon and Penn St,  yet Indiana still managed to win each game.  They are having a truly special season.

3.  Oregon - gutsy last second win in Iowa City.  Oregon just needs one more win over USC or Wash and that should be enough to get Ducks into the CFP.

4.  Iowa -  Hawkeyes have 2 conference losses in last 2 minutes to Indiana and Oregon. Iowa now has to head to USC in quick turn around.  Iowa probably is playing for a good bowl now.  CFP chances probably gone.

5.  USC - keeps CFP hopes alive as USC takes care of NW in a home win.  Now USC gets to host Iowa

6.  Michigan - just needs to keep winning and then upset Ohio St (again) to make the CFP .  Best win is victory over Wash

Hmmm...

7.  Washington - laid an egg in disappointing loss at Wisc.  CFP hopes are gone.  But still has big win over Illinois.

8.  Illinois -  has win at home over  USC,  but also has big losses to Ohio St, Indiana and Wash

9.  Minnesota -  has solid win over Neb, but has some big losses to Ohio St and Iowa

10.  Nebraska- pulls out solid win on the road over UCLA but still has that loss to Minn earlier

11.  Northwestern -  hung with USC for a while but ultimately loss on the road.  NW has 3 conference wins over UCLA, Penn St and Purdue.  3 losses to USC, Neb and Oregon.  Easy team to slot.

12.  UCLA - loses at home to Nebraska.  Cinderella's chariot seems to have turned back into a pumpkin the last 2 week.  UCLA still has 3 wins over PSU, MSU and MD

13.  Penn St. - another heartbreaking loss at home in last seconds.  What a weird delimna PSU is to rank.  0-6 in conference with no loss by more than 1 score.  Everybody knows PSU is better than their record,  but what do you do when 2 of those losses are to UCLA and NW?

14.  Rutgers -  beats MD to stay alive for a bowl bid.  Last game of season against PSU will probably determine who gets the BigTen's last bowl bid.

15.  MD - loses again,  this time to Rutgers.  At least MD can say they have 1 conference win against Wisconsin

16.  Wisconsin?  -  pulls out sloppy win in the rain in big upset over Wisconsin.  But given how bad Wisconsin had been in previous weeks. this ranking almost feels too high

17.  Purdue -  winless but seems to have more close losses recently  than Mich St

18.  Mich St - winless but I guess Mich St has some close losses too.  MSU is probably is still better than Wisconsin but I gotta give Wisc credit for getting a win this last week.

Ohio State and Indiana are still at the top of the BIG heap. Oregon, Michigan, and USC will still have something to say about which teams make it to Indianapolis and who stays in the running for a College Football Playoff appearance.

1)Hoosiers - while rallying in spectacular fashion at the end IU had a much harder time putting away the same Lions tOSU beat by 24 pts just last week. The only knock against IU seems to be on the road V very physical opponents, that's when things get dicey for them

2)Bucks - Buckeyes ground out 4 straight scoring drives in the 2nd Qtr to pull away from the Boilers 34-10. Jeremiah Smith finished with a season-high 10 catches for 137 yards and caught a 35-yard TD pass to break open the game. C.J. Donaldson had 2 TDs on 1-yard plunges. tOSU played without starting WR Carnell Tate

3)Ducks - Won on a clutch 39-yard field goal with 3 seconds left, escaping with an 18-16 win over Iowa. On a cold/rainy Saturday afternoon, pulling out the win in less-than-ideal weather conditions

4)USC - beat N.U. @ Home as Makai Lemon had TDs on the ground and thru the air, while making 11 catches for 161 yards, and So. Cal. stayed in the CFB Playoff race. Trojan offense produced 482 total yards. That’s the most allowed all season by the stingy Northwestern defense

5)Mecheegan - did not play, and have  trip to Evanston next with the Wildcats

6)Iowa - keeping them here as 2 of their 3 losses came at the hands of 2 teams that may win the BIG. And their other loss was to the instate rival. Hawks defense ranked No.10 nationally kept the hi flying Ducks to just 18 pts in perfect weather for Duck Hunting.

7) Huskies - Gonna keep them here also even tho they fumbled on the road vs the other UW. As the 23rd ranked Illini were beat by this team H2H by 17 pts and both have 3 losses

8)Illini - were off this week but they're as good as any other 3 loss Big Team.

9) Gophers - were idle and head to Eugene next weekend V the red hot Ducks

10)'Skers - won as expected vs a shaky UCLA squad.

11) NU - a couple of tough road losses B2B @ USC/UNL

12)Rutgers
13)Terps
14)UCLA
15)PSU
16)MSU
17)UW
18)Boilers

Contenders:
1) Ohio State--wake me up when something changes.
2) Indiana--oohwee, Penn State is still dangerours.
3) Oregon--Kinnick in November is no joke, nor was Oregon's drive to win it.

Top 25-ish:
4) Iowa--brutal way to lose that upset bid. Better than anyone below.
5) USC--better win than most people will probably give them credit for.
6) Michigan--bye.

Not Ready for Prime time:
7) Washington--H2H solid win over Illinois keeps them here, but ouch, that was rough.
8) Illinois--bye
9) Penn State--don't let the record and two poor losses fool you; this team is still more talented than almost everyone else. I'm predicting ending on a 4-game winning streak to make it to bowl eligibility.
10) Northwestern--lost to a better team on the road; better than everyone else below.
11) Nebraska--good road win.
12) Minnesota--bye.
13) UCLA--played Nebraska close, not close enough.
14) Rutgers--H2H over Maryland.
15) Maryland--lost to Rutgers, better than the cellar.

Pur-Don't:
16) Wisconsin--getting a win moves them to the top of the bottom. But don't get excited, the beatings will return this week.
17) Purdue--Bye. Are they good? No. But they are better than their record indicates. And will they finish 2-10? Yes. And I would still take them straight up against Wisconsin, even though I'm giving the Badgers credit for their win.
18) Michigan State--they aren't good, even on a week off. Penn State isn't going to be fun.

Medina's objective rankings:

The premise is simple:
Each team's opponents are ranked as against each other then each team's ranking against all of their opponents is averaged.  For example, this past weekend Ohio State became the seventh B1G team to beat Purdue while Purdue became the sixth B1G team to lose to Ohio State so we compare Ohio State's win and Purdue's loss to the wins/losses by the other teams that played tOSU/PU:

Against Ohio State:

Against Purdue:

I really can't do rankings this week as I didn't see the games. My brother was in town and we were busy.
