I know everyone is shocked this is primarily about money and not really football.

Many if us of course think the campus experience is what makes CFB more entertaining.

The Kickoff Classic was a season-opening college football game played at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey from 1983 to 2002.

Yeah, I had forgotten about that one.  It didn't start the trend obviously, but was the start of it all, apparently.  Maybe there was one in say 1935 somewhere.  Anyway, it explains why teams gives up a home game to play at a NS, and they don't have to go to someone else's home game.  I'm sure it makes scheduling easier.

They are akin to bowl games in effect, but more popular than any but the NY6 playoff bowl games.
