I believe this is the last weekend where we will have a significant number of teams not playing (unless you count the SEC's traditional FCS-fest on the penultimate weekend). This weekend seven of the top-25 and four of the B1G are off.
The obvious headliner in the B1G is the game in Iowa City. At this point is appears VERY unlikely that a 2-loss team will get into the B1GCG so the Iowa/Oregon game is effectively a B1GCG elimination game. The winner is in a pretty good place with a decent chance to sneak into the CG. Iowa gets a crack at USC next week so they *could* eliminate both the the West coast contenders in back-to-back weeks. Then they'd just have to win as heavy favorites (vsMSU, atUNL) and hope Ohio State loses. Oregon also gets a crack at USC later this season and the Ducks have by far the best opponent winning percentage (SoS tiebreaker) of the contenders.
The ranked vs ranked games (plus USC/Iowa because the Hawkeyes are first among ORV in the AP and ranked in the coaches poll) are:
- #3 aTm -7.5 at #19 Mizzou Sat at 330 on ABC
- #6 Oregon -5.5 at #26 Iowa Sat at 330 on CBS, Big Noon location
- #8 BYU +10.5 at #9 TxTech Sat at noon on ABC, Gameday location
I find it interesting that none of these are primetime.
The Maryland/Rutgers game is huge for bowl eligibility. Each team has four wins and thus needs two more to go bowling. Rutgers only has two games after this one so if they lose to Maryand they'd have to win out (@tOSU, vsPSU) to go bowling. Maryland's chances are better but I have a hard time seeing them make it without winning in Piscataway. After this they have @IL, vsM, vsMSU.

Just as I have an ongoing, annual ticker in the back of my mind of how long its been since 1988 (ND's last NC), so, too do I have that same thing about years Miami has been in the ACC without winning it.
Amazing counting numbers.......37 and 21, respectively.
Forget Catholics vs Convicts, they're both just irrelevant losers.
