Title: Congratulations to Alabama and Notre Dame
Post by: medinabuckeye1 on October 27, 2025, 03:50:43 PM
The Tide and Irish each made their 900th AP Poll appearance this week joining Michigan (936) and Oklahoma (915) in the 900 club.  Ohio State is the only team with four digits of AP Appearances (1,009).  Also of note, @utee94 (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=15) will be happy to know that Texas could make their 800th AP Poll appearance next week as they made their 799th this week.  If they remain ranked next week, Texas will join USC (823) in the 800 club.  Nebraska (733) and Penn State (717) are in the 700s while UGA (688), LSU (686), UF (648), Tennessee (645),  and Auburn (604) are in the 600s.

the fact that Ohio State is 73 spots ahead of #2 is pretty remarkable. hell of a program they got there in Columbus.

The area in which Ohio State is the absolute undisputed king of the mountain is consistency.  Teams like Alabama and Oklahoma have higher highs but nobody has higher lows than Ohio State.

A while back we were having one of our endless discussions about helmets and @ELA (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=55) made an interesting observation.  He stated that one of his criteria for a helmet is the ability to recover from a prolonged downturn.  For example, Michigan's quick recovery from RRod/Hoke eras confirmed Michigan's helmet status.  Under RRod and Hoke from 2008-2014 the Wolverines had three losing seasons plus two 7-6 seasons and an 8-5 season.  So six out of seven seasons from 2008-2014 were 8-5 or worse but then in 2015 they shot back to 10-3 and 10+ win seasons immediately became the norm again.  The observation that he made was that he simply didn't know with Ohio State because they haven't had a prolonged downturn in over a century.
