Can't recall this game ever being more blah. Maybe 2012, but after 4 straight losses, a mid-UM actually sort of cared this year. I've heard a couple MSU fans say they hope to lose, because they don't want a meaningless win to save Johnathan Smith.
This used to be a game you could count on MSU playing over their head. It's been a while since that was true. 2017 is probably the lone example in the last 25 years. Over the past 25 years I'd say the better team has won 24 of 25. It's actually been largely uninteresting as far as upsets go.
Might be closeish for a half, but that's about it

One of my favorite rivalries though Sparta the last few campaigns has fell behind because fall off in coaching thus recruiting. Justice Haynes if he can grind it out and move the chains might be a long day.On the other hand that wr Kelly for MSU is averging 15 ypc and if Chiles can evade M*s pressure he'll find him. It's prolly going to be a 12-15 pt M* win but if Sparta can keep chippy with a hopefully rabid crowd anything is possible - this is their season right here

That literally might be the last upset in this series, give or take 2017

Yeah, I guess this one technically wasn't an upset.

Kinda felt like one though.

This past Saturday was the 10th anniversary of both the Michigan surrender cobra and Minnesota's first win over Nebraska since the primordial ooze era of college football.
It was a good day.
-
I disagree
-
can’t remember an MSU - Michigan game this meh in awhile.
Seems like both fan bases are down on the coach. Spartan fans want the guy gone yesterday and Michigan fans are teetering on the edge with Sharon.
If Sparty wins at home it might put the coach on life support and buy him more time- and it feels like the fans are ready to pull the plug on him yesterday and don’t want him around for another second.
If Michigan wins here- yeah whatever you’re suppose to beat a team this bad with a coach minutes away from being fired. If they lose here- oh boy - just reinforces all the negative thoughts and questions Michigan fan base have about Sharon.
Think we can just call this one the State of Michigan Buyout Bowl Rivalry game.
-

Well if that means sending Sharona packing then by all means - GO ble-c-h,boof,boo - this is going to take some getting use to

Well close

If either coach is back next year they are unserious programs. What a horrible game

oh and Semaj Morgan is truly awful. don't think i have ever seen a player as bad as him in my lifetime watching michigan. not an exaggeration.

Lol. Sparty wasn’t offside. Kind of nice to see the refs blow a potential game changing call in Michigan’s favor instead of Sparty’s as has happened in the past several times over the last 40 years in this game.

it was certainly a very consequential call- but don't feel like it was game changing. Michigan State was not going to win that game- they are in a word, bad.
it was pretty embarrassing play calling by Sharon to not even attempt to unleash Underwood in the run game or pass game against one of the worst pass defenses in the country. guy is a fucking clown show coach who is holding his players and this team back. mean this with all sincerity- Underwood should transfer after the season is over if Moore is still employed. kid is #1 overall NFL draft pick material and will never realize that potential playing for a fucking moronic loser like Sharon Moore.

Morgan has Moore's party pictures
he 100000% has dirt on Moore.

thoughts on the game...
yeah, so Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall are really, really, really good.

Has there ever been a Michigan coach that MDot didn’t trash? Been thinking for years that he’s actually a buckeye pretending to be a Michigan fan.
Moore is fine right where he is.
-
I think Moore has been handling the QB situation OK as it apears there isn't a semi-decent replacement if BU gets hurt running the ball.On the other hand Mdots not wrong on Morgan I've read more than a few comments on other boards with the same reviews.

Moore is absolutely god awful. And you're part of the problem if you think he's fine right where he is.

you can't coach scared or try to make players play like they are bubble wrapped. have to play to win the game and put belt to ass of the other team every week: see Cignetti, Curt. have to let your players play and the chips fall where they may.
Bryce Underwood is not going to be anywhere near the type of player he can become if you don't involve his legs into the equation. He is a FREAK athlete for his size and those legs are a dangerous weapon. Jayden Daniels RS Jr year at LSU he ran for 885 yards, his 5th year at LSU he ran for 1,134 yards. Bryce Underwood is bigger, stronger, and faster than Jayden Daniels- if he's not running for about 800 yards a season and throwing for 3,000+ starting next year something is way off. Don't need to wait to know, something is way off. Sharon Moore is an abysmal coach who has no fucking clue what he is doing and doesn't belong anywhere near the head job trying to learn on the fly at a place like Michigan with a mega-talent like Bryce Underwood as his QB.
Sharon belongs in the MAC or D2 learning how to be a head coach- not learning on the fly at a place like Michigan. Guy is fucking clueless and complete dirty unwashed asshole.
-
You need to reign in the bubbling bombast, many times BU looks disjointed throwing the ball, regardless of your rants. M* has provided him with a decent squad,RBs,WRs, and O.L.. Ya the kids got lots of raw talent but that edge needs a lot of fine tuning and some of it is personal perspective.Got in a couple of pissing matches with other players and was taking selfies of his own self last night. He should try focusing on where he can improve his game like techniques/fundamentals instead of hamming it up.Maybe just maybe he's a bit of a prima donna
-
I I’m going to give an unpopular take. The offensive play calling and coaching is a problem, but Bryce Underwood is overrated. Yes, there will be a mountain of excuses about coaching putting him in less than ideal situations, which I completely agree with a lot of that, but there’s also been enough plays where he had a chance to make a decision or play and he didn’t. I know, he’s 18. But when you are crowned the Lebron of college football, you better back it up. His open field plays where he ran, he didn’t make anyone miss and didn’t outrun anyone. He had quite a few situations where he scrambled into the blitz instead of away from pressure. He’s not selling a fake throw or any of the sort so he can fake out a defender. His passing game down field has been mediocre at best. When there’s pressure, he puts his head down and doesn’t look around while scrambling. Sorry but I always think of how good Troy Smith was at sensing pressure, keeping his head up and finding a way to make a ridiculous play. He throws too many cannon short passes.
This kid is sure as heck athletic, but he doesn’t grasp how to make plays, create misdirection and as bad as the play calling is, he’s also changing a lot of plays that lead to terrible decisions. Also, he definitely doesn’t show killer instinct, he shows his generation mentality of look at me. Taking selfies, signing autographs mid game. Maybe that changes, but if it doesn’t, he won’t win squat and it won’t be solely on the coaches.
-
BU certainly ✔️s all the boxes he's getting serious money he needs a big brother type telling him what he needs to hear, not what he wants to hear.Get the right guy to keep him focused and he could be all that
-
Moore is fine right where he is.
I hope a lot of Michigan administrators agree with you

There was no way for him to not be overrated. I will say that he could probably put up bigger numbers in a more simple offense, but they are building this offense for him to be here for the next two years. could he go to Tulane and put up huge numbers and then get the same NIL package? Probably. But I do think they appear to be investing in his future. and I think the deal they have with him allows them to do that. Not sure how many schools have that luxury, and overpaying for him up front, allows them that luxury

I don't think he is overrated at all. he's playing just fine considering the circumstances and his coach sucks, the play calling sucks, and the talent around him is extremely young.
the fact that Semaj Morgan still gets targets and playing time and is featured in the offense is absolutely insane. everyone of Semaj Morgan's 100,000 drops are on Sherrone Moore for even playing him at this point- not on Underwood or Morgan himself.
Right now Underwood's LT is a RS Fr., his RG is a RS Fr., his RT is a RS Fr., his best WR is a true frosh, his #4 WR Goodwin is a RS Fr., his #2 RB is a RS Fr., and his #2 TE who can't stay healthy is a true soph.
His #1 RB is a JR and he's freaking AWESOME, his #1 TE who also can't stay healthy is a RS Jr who is pretty good, and his second best WR is a RS Sr who is pretty good. His #3 WR is Semaj Morgan who is complete ass, and his LG and C who are both 5th year guys have been playing like ass as well. The line was better with El Hadi out of the lineup at LG and there's a reason why Crippen kept getting portaled over at C- he's just not very good.
They need to get serious and fire Sherrone Moore into the sun, go absolutely nuts in the portal for WR's and a C, and throw a FAT NIL package to keep Justice Haynes for his SR year and they'll be a machine in 2026.
-
I hope a lot of Michigan administrators agree with you
unfortunately Warde Manuel is the AD, so he'll keep Football Juwan Howard around entirely longer than he should. fear not rival fans.

While some of this is accurate and if BU has any sense he could improvise and hit Marsh,McCulley even Goodwin or the two TE's .Tell Sharrone he didn't see Morgan or he wasn't open from his perspective. In other words use his noggin,Sharrone isn't gonna bench him

Now you know what the Cooper years were like,he should have never seen year 5 let alone 13.But at least sherrone is 2-0 V tOSU - so keep him around. Matter of fact give him an extension for his insightful use of Morgan

While that sounds warm and fuzzy for his future, how does that add up? They call running plays every first and second down and that's building the future offense for him?
Maybe it improves with experience and age, but I see a lot more fundamental issues than I expected. Sure he was likely always going to be overrated, but watching him and watching CJ Carr, I'm far more impressed by Carr and we're talking same age, same experience level and it could easily be argued that Carr has faced stiffer competition. There's athletic ability and then there's someone who feels and executes on the field.
-
Considering the injuries on ND O-Line and one semi bad game vs USC Carr's been solid
-
The Notre Dame and USC game has a factor that's being downplayed.. The weather sucked. It's part of why the USC passing game was a mess as well.
-
Considering the injuries on ND O-Line and one semi bad game vs USC Carr's been solid
I didn't love Carr's film, he has impressed me in game.
But that was a two way street. CJ didn't want the noise of being the legacy QB, and Michigan wasn't sold. There was definitely some back channel stuff where they just agreed to go their separate ways.
The more scouts just go to these 7 on 7 camps, the harder it is to identify QBs, at least at the highest level. I actually think it's helping the lower levels identify arm talent they can coach up, and then lose. The current North Texas coach was an FCS coach, who found Cam Ward, then brough him with him to be OC at Washington State. Then when Miami poached him, he found John Mateer. Now he's the HC at North Texas, and his QB is an absolute stud, and wasn't even a starter in HS, but he saw him at a 7 on 7. Now he's completing over 68% of his passes, with 21 TDs and 4 INTs.
He'll be at a Power 4 school next year, the only question is whether its because he's following his HC
-
That's impressive but who is the competition?
-
CJ Carr, I'm far more impressed by Carr and we're talking same age, same experience level and it could easily be argued that Carr has faced stiffer competition.
yeah sure, except for the FACTS that they are not the same age nor have the same experience level.
CJ Carr is 20 years old and is a RS Freshman, whereas Bryce Underwood is a true freshman who just turned 18 years old two months ago, he technically could be class of 2026.
You are discounting an entire year of experience sitting in a college system learning an offense, an entire year and off-season of getting reps in practice, and developing chemistry with WR's and TE's on the team and sharpening your game before you get thrust into live action and have bullets flying. CJ Carr has had this luxury that Underwood has not.
And the stiffer competition is debatable. Notre Dame's SOS is 12th, Michigan's is 18th. And Michigan has yet to face the best team it'll play all year- Ohio State- whereas Notre Dame has already faced anyone with a pulse on their schedule and won't be facing anything but patsies from here on out- translation: the SOS will even out at the end.
Underwood's stat lines often look a lot like JJ McCarthy's. Gee, wonder if his current head coach being JJ's OC has anything to do with that, YA THINK?
Michigan's pass game is fucking stone age archaic- and it has been since Harbaugh arrived. Literally the only year it was any good and above average was when Jedd Fisch was the OC in 2015. Every other year it's been complete fucking ass and Sharon the Fat Jolly Fucking Retard has continued the tradition of eye sore headache inducing dog shit awful 1970s passing game.
Michigan literally does nothing in the pass game concepts that gets guys wide open or the QB easy completions. Everything looks like retards trying to fuck. It's fucking insane that Sisters of The Poor D3 schools can scheme guys open and have QBs chuck the ball all over the yard and Michigan can't figure it's shit out when it comes to throwing the football.
Underwood was insane for even signing with Michigan- but that bag was real. He's going to wind up losing more money by staying with Moore who will tank his NFL draft stock. He needs to make an ultimate to the AD at the end of the year- get rid of Moore or I'm out. And if Warde has half a fucking brain he'll pick Underwood.
-
Carr would have came out if he got handed the same bag of goods. BU isn't in a bad place can't see him giving ultimatums on a grown mans future. No guarantee the next program would pony up if he appears like an 18yr old entitled ass trying to get the HC canned. If M* wins out he'd have more clout and maybe sit down with Moore - if Manual doesn't share your POV

Purdue at home and Northwestern on the road aren't gimmes when Sharon Moore is your head coach, and Maryland on the road frightens the shit out of me. could legit see him losing to Maryland and then doing the completely implausible and beating Ohio State at home to go 9-3 and be out of the playoff.
Moore wants to keep his job he needs to finish 10-2, beat Ohio State and make the playoff. Anything short of that- he deserves to be fired.
-
9-3 with a true frosh QB with losses on the road vs OU & USC and a home loss to #1 OSU
not too shabby
losing to Maryland and then beating #1 OSU - gonna keep his job fer sure

Harbaugh raised the standard. You have the NIL money cannon behind you to get top guys in HS recruiting and the porthole. Zero excuse to settle for mediocrity anymore. This isn't Nebraska. Make the playoff or hit the fucking road jack.

Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right.
It's one thing to want to keep your star safe bc you don't have anyone behind him. But you're trying to win championships. If wrapping your QB in bubble wrap is losing you games, then what's the point of worrying about his health? His health is irrelevant if you don't make the CFP.

16-31 over four-plus seasons, including a 10-26 record in conference play

If either coach is back next year they are unserious programs. What a horrible game
If you’d told me Underwood would be just 8 of 17 for 86 yards I really would’ve thought Spartans won the game. Rossi coached his arse off and many times left the Offense in a favorable position.M* did rip off some long plays scoring 3 TDs in the 2nd half some of that was leaving the "D" on the field from turn overs or 3 and outs.A couple of sustained drives even if they didn't score would have helped out the defense. If there is a coaching change I'd give Rossi and interm tag for one season at least he showed some fire

You're exactly right on the age difference and red shirt vs true freshman, but ask Arch Manning how being in the system completely elevated his game. The most common excuse I see for QB's underperforming is "learning the system" or that they need to get experience. While that can be true, there's also the reality that some guys understand the game better than others, which can offset or conquer a talent gap. Unless you want to try and convince me that Tom Brady was the most athletic qb to venture through Ann Arbor. Athletic ceiling isn't everything, especially at this position.

I would just say that he is a true freshman. OSU has had a couple of these uber recruits at QB, and it is unfair to expect him to be a Heisman candidate in his first year. Also, he was an uber recruit due to his physical gifts, so his actual QB play is still a work in progress.

his physical gifts obviously helped him be ranked so highly- but that wasn't it alone. Underwood was also insanely productive at the HS level as a player setting all kinds of state passing records and won National Freshman and Sophomore of the year awards, went to 4 state title games I believe and went to all the 7on7 tournaments and camps and performed at the top at every one. he checked every box as a recruit. HS production, size, physical gifts, and excelled at camp/7on7 tournament settings.

In almost every circumstance I would agree with this, but this kid came in making bold statements he’s going to win the Heisman and be the greatest freshman to ever play. You talk like that, you better back it up, not be mediocre at best and be focused on selfies on the sidelines. So at this point, shut your mouth underwood, humble yourself and prove something. I prefer a talented and humble leader, not big mouth “well he’s inexperienced” one.
also, this is pretty interesting and backs up my shift in mentality towards him and the offense.

Perhaps but he was a man amongst mostly boys then, he's coming up in weight class now.Braxton Miller was the same thing coming out of H.S. smaller but quicker and a cannon for an arm, that the WRs mostly ran under. He made 2nd team All-American as Freshman on raw talent mostly but it's a huge adjustment. When he ripped his knee up his JR season it affected both his throwing/running capabilities. In NFL Lite Football they don't give a rodents rear end what your resume says they're trying make their own way

Good Post but that applies to a lot of these kids - young, dumb and full of C**. Sometimes their actions come from parenting/coaching other times they're just caught up in unrestrained enthusiasm in the moment. But someone has to reign them in and point them in the right direction and proper sportsman ship before things spiral down into the bloods vs the crips type of crap

posters in the comment section had some interesting things to say:
- "The hype is starting to dwindle. I don't see a high IQ player. I think UM has another Joe Milton." (kinda funny as that's what I said to Mdot - months ago just yanking his chain)
- "Some of us have been trying to get you guys to this. Good to see you offer the apology. We gotta quit hyping and clamoring for Bryce to be Superman. He’s young and missing a lot of reads on the field still."
- "He’s at about a 50% completion rate. Running is smarter."
- "I don’t think that most of us that were upset with the game cared that we grounded them to dust on ground. It’s more-so that he was 8-17 for 86yards. That’s abysmal. Not all his fault, but the staff has to give him some help too. How do we go from using TEs heavy vs Wash, but nothing at all vs Sparty? It just feels clunky and scattered week to week in the pass game and Bryce looked uncomfortable and bailed out of some pockets he shouldn’t have."
- "Watching Underwood so far, you get the feeling he is very nervous back in the pocket. so far lacks the nerve to stand in there. Now is it just because he is young and he will develop it or is it a flaw he can't overcome ?"
-

Not a high IQ player is where I'm leaning. it's not an personal IQ insult, but a football IQ assessment. There's athletic talent and then there's guys that can see and feel the game and I don't see it with him.
The second point, i think this is why Denard and Webb are speaking out. Everyone is quick to trash offensive play calling (myself included before now). What if they are calling plays to involve the tight ends more and Underwood is the one choosing not to? The flaw I see is that he can't read defenses. Again, that could definitely be an experience thing, but his overall football IQ right now is a red flag from my seat. Experience will get him further, but I'm starting to believe his ceiling is much lower that preseason expectations and a huge check said it was.
Now with that being said, i still hate constantly running on 1st and 2nd down over and over. That's why I'd love to know when and where the 16 RPOs were at, which we'll never know.

To me it is simple. he is physically, talented and gifted, but very inexperienced.
he will continue to improve at reading defenses and using the pass to beat teams
in the meantime, Michigan is still dangerous because they’re so good at running the ball

Including Underwood, he can move the chains by shaking takles and taking off. How to you chart/plan for broken plays? The downside of course is injury and every team always has at least one Kamikaze - ALWAYS. Who doesn't care if you''re Marino,Elway,Brady or Mahomes(how does Montana always seem forgotten :017:) he's coming for you

Why don't they put Morgan back on returns he was good at returning KOs & Punts in '23 avg,15.5 yds every KO return and 33.7 for just Punts
In '24 he avg 11 yds per punt return 2nd on the team Bennet avg 13 but only returned one punt,Morgan lead the team over all
