Louisville 4-1 @ Miami 5-0 7pm,Tonight
Louisville Cardinals and second-ranked Miami have had their share of shootouts over the years. Both teams can still score, but the Friday matchup in Miami Gardens, Fla., also will feature the Atlantic Coast Conference's top two defenses. 'Canes won a 52-45 victory last season in Louisville. Entering Friday, the Cardinals (4-1, 1-1 ACC) are scoring 36 points a game, one more than the Hurricanes (5-0, 1-0). Louisville has a banged-up offensive backfield. Cornhuskers will try to keep its first national ranking of the season from being a one-week outlier when it visits Minnesota Golden Gophers for a Big Ten clash Friday night in Minneapolis. Appeared at No. 25 after winning in dramatic fashion last week at Maryland - just the third time in seven years that Nebraska has appeared in the poll. No. 20 USC @ No. 13 Notre Dame 7:30 p.m.
USC protected its home turf by easily handling the Wolverines 31-13 in Week 7. Can the Trojans go into South Bend and upset the Irish in Week 8? Since dropping the first two games of the season, Notre Dame's electric offense has found a rhythm. So, SC's defense could have a tough road ahead on Saturday. Trojans had to rely on walk-on King Miller as their primary running back for most of the game due to a litany of injuries, they still rushed for 224 yards against Michigan's traditionally stout defense. It will be interesting to see how USC matches up against a Notre Dame team that has taken a step back defensively.
No. 23 Utah @ No. 15 BYU 8 p.m.
At 5-1, is it too early to say that this Utah team is looking like the Utes of yesteryear? If that is the case, they get to prove it when they take their show on the road to BYU this weekend. One of the most entertaining -- and underrated -- rivalries in college football. This year should be no different. It's hard to overstate how important this game is for each team, even without considering the fact that they do not like each other. The Cougars are 6-0, but their résumé so far is void of a signature win. On the other hand, Utah's best win so far was its 42-10 victory over Arizona State. Whoever comes out victorious takes a significant advantage in the race for the Big 12 Championship Game, and perhaps even beyond.

It's been a long time since there has been this much red in this stadium.
Their QB compared himself to Pat Mahomes in the preseason, and he's doing a bang up job of copying the version from Texas Tech. Crazy plays and drive killing sacks. The Gopher pass rush has already given him happy feet.
Taylor has an 80 yard run that set up the TD but that's it. The Gopher OL still can't get any push, and if they can't get anything going tonight, it's gonna be a long night in IC next week.

If you're a .500 guy after 4+ years and you were given a .500 program......what are we doing here?
Great guy, made recruiting a priority again, brought Florida into the modern day with the huge group of peripheral jobs/people, etc....but refused to bring in an OC when the offense is a problem....not a great plan.
More than letting him go, Florida needs to sign a legit HC from a P4 program. No more up-and-comers, no more little-time BS. Get a dude. That's all I ask.

Tough to say. I'm not that familiar with Florida's program. Urbz believed in it over Notre Dame because it was easier to recruit there. Is that still the case? Not sure.
The other thing is why would a successful head coach in the P4 leave to take a job that has chewed up everyone that has touched it.

These types of guys want a challenge. The challenge at Florida isn't having the things you need to be successful, it's the pressure to use those things and be successful.
Spurrier did it. Meyer did it. Everything necessary to win is there. Muschamp went 11-1 one year (lost the bowl)...the same guy who had Florida's first losing season of my lifetime. McElwain went from unranked to top 10 during a season. Mullen won an OB and had 3 straight top-10 finishes.
If those guys can have those peaks, the problem isn't the program. Great HCs are hard to find, that's all.

They're 11-12-13. We practiced. I had each player focus on 1-2 positions to learn what to do on each of the 4 plays.
I'm the only HC out there with diagrams, having to show them between each play in games.
They have no excuses.
They want to say they're on the team and then just go out and wing it. I'm like, I've got reverses and all these fun things we could implement, if you'd remember these 4 plays.
So winning went out the door and I just hoped they have fun out there. It's fun to score a TD or get an INT. But it's A LOT of fun to win the game.

Jay Norvell is also an old Iowa player from the 80's. He had been mentioned as a possible successor to Kirk Ferentz if he ever retired, although Norvell was never really at the top of Iowa's wish list.
I think its safe to say Norvell is no longer on that candidate wish list for the next head coach at Iowa.

The HS team usually went 1-9, 2-8 or so, but one of the years I was DC, we made the playoffs.
We had a badass kid who basically carried the ball 35 times a game and that was enough.
Now it's just 8-on-8 flag football with middle schoolers. 3-man lines.
I wanted to either have few plays with many formations or one formation and a bunch of plays, with alternate plays off those.
Wound up having one formation and 4 plays for half the season.
There's 2 problems
1 - these kids don't grow up watching football, it's either basketball or nothing (like the Rez, actually)
2 - Hand out 20 playbooks and maybe 2 of them look at it
They just want to run around and have fun. Nothing wrong with that, it's a low-stakes entity, of course. But you can't expect to win any games like that.
*We also only had 3 1-hour practices before our first game. The other schools have had teams all along, and ours didn't have one for a few years. So it'll get better, but it's mystifying that they don't learn the plays to help them be more successful. That's why my 8th-grade teaching was a 1-year and done.....I cared much more about their futures that they did. Weird feeling.

I have been officiating HS football for 25 years, they power that be have been trying for the last few years to get me to also officiate Flag football here in AZ, but I continue to refuse. I actually got assigned to do 3 flag games last week and turned them all back. I don't know why they keep trying.
Personally I don't care for flag football.
