I think that the Rutgers/Iowa game tonight is interesting.
For one thing I still don't think we know much really about either team. Rutgers beat Ohio which is more than WVU can say but Rutgers also played them at home and won by a FG while WVU played them in Athens and lost by a TD. The Scarlet Knights' other two games were against Miami, OH and Norfolk St so who knows.
Iowa has two big wins but they were over Albany and UMASS so big deal. Their loss might not be particularly bad as it was close (FG) and on the road to a team currently ranked #12.
The problem for Rutgers is that their schedule is brutal. They play the top three teams in the league (@tOSU, vOre, vPSU) plus they have a West Coast road trip (@UDub) and trips to Illinois and Minnesota. That is FOUR league games against teams currently in the top-10. That doesn't leave Rutgers with a lot of room for error to make a bowl.
Iowa's schedule could be tricky as well. They have four remaining games against currently ranked teams (#2 PSU, #6 Ore, #19 IU, #25 USC) and road trips to Madison and Lincoln. I don't *THINK* this is going to happen but you could see this unraveling.

I'll be watching

Hopefully there's a Purdue win in all that chaos.
We made the menu for the weekend, but now the oldest is going to his HS homecoming game and the youngest is going to a different HS's football game with a friend, so it's just us and the middle child tonight. Thinking we'll take him out somewhere instead of cooking at home.
We're probably going to end up here: https://www.theblindpigoc.com/

The thought of Notre Dame going 0-3 is delicious, especially with the 3rd loss being to Purdue. Fingers crossed!

I'd love it as much as anyone but I just don't see it happening.
For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth of Notre Dame being 0-2 and ranked, if anything I think they are UNDERRATED. Yeah, they are 0-2 but if you take the rankings at face value they:
- Lost on the road at night by a FG to #4, and
- Lost at home by a single point on a botched XP Snap to #10.
That tells me that they are almost as good as those teams. Change two plays and they are 2-0 and probably #2.

Yup, folks make way too much of close losses early in the year, every year.
-
Death of college football and all that--it is remarkable that ND is still relevant right now. In the old days--two years ago?--they would be playing for pride. Now they still have a shot at glory. So many classic mid-season football games would no longer matter that much in the current playoff structure. Too bad.
-
Yup, folks make way too much of close losses early in the year, every year.
That and a big part of it is that we just don't know how good the other teams are either so it is all just a guess, the poll right now:
- Ohio State is #1 almost entirely on the basis of a 7 point home win over Texas but Texas has looked pretty shaky so maybe they shouldn't be #1 but then, who should?
- Penn State is #2 based solely on preseason expectations because beating Nevada, FIU, and Villanova proves nothing.
- LSU is #3 almost entirely on the basis of a 7 point road win over preseason #4 Clemson but that looks a LOT less impressive with Clemson struggling with Troy, losing to GaTech and now being an unranked 1-2 team. LSU does have a home win over UF but are the Gators any good?
- Miami is #4 almost entirely on the basis of a 3 point home win over preseason #6 Notre Dame but are the Irish any good?
- Georgia's wins over Marshall and Austin Peay prove nothing so the only thing supporting their top-5 ranking is a close road win over Tennessee but are the Volunteers any good?
- Oregon has had very impressive scores but their three victims are winless against FBS competition so it is hard to tell if Oregon is actually that good of if the competition has just made them look that good.
- Florida State is a top-10 team because the team that they beat in their opener had "Alabama" on their jerseys and we've all seen LOTS of REALLY good Alabama teams not too long ago but none of us actually know if THIS Alabama team is any good.
- Texas is the highest ranked team with a loss and that makes sense because the team that they lost to is defending NC and sitting at #1 but if Ohio State isn't actually all that good then Texas shouldn't be this high either and we don't know yet.
- Illinois is #9 mostly based on preseason expectations because beating Directional Illinois and Directional Michigan proves nothing. The Illini did beat Dook which is technically a P4 win but Dook is still Dook, it isn't BB season yet, and the Blue Devils also lost Tulane.
- aTm is in the same boat as Miami. It is possible that Notre Dame is REALLY good and Miami and aTm are slightly better and deserving of their top-5 and top-10 rankings but it is also possible that Notre Dame sucks in which case Miami and aTm are overrated.
You could go all the way through the poll like this. Nobody has much to back up their rankings yet.
-
crazy to think he came out of Detroit in the 2023 class and then Bryce in 2025 class. CJ Carr came along in 2024 class- but he's a good step below both of them as HS players and college recruit/prospects. that's a hell of a 3 year run for QB prospects coming out of the state of Michigan.

Uhh, what??
This reminds me of religion. Hear me out, it's banal.
You're suggesting being 0-2 makes your games still meaningful if you're an ND (helmet) into the season because you still have a shot at the playoff. This is akin to believing in a god for promise of reward (heaven) or threat of punishment (hell).
I'd argue those "classic mid-season football games" are classics in that they're important to those involved regardless of potential future payoff/success (playoff). As in someone who lives an ethical life just because they should, not because a god tells them to. The phrase "throw out the records" is prudent here.
I don't care if we're both 0-10, I will watch every second of Florida vs FSU, UGA, Tennessee, etc and want the Gators to beat the hell out of them.
-

I'd say they are officially OSU3....getting blasted at home 19-3 by Tulsa. Yikes.
-
the mullet might be on his way out!
he getting a hair cut?

to keep his job
-
always worth reminding folks, Tulsa has the smallest enrollment of any FBS school. 2,647 undergrads, 3700 w/ graduate students
-
always
-
Tulsa is also 1-2 this year with losses to New Mexico State and Navy. Not like they played a bunch of P4 teams to start the season and got drilled. they've played nothing but cupcakes and are 1-2. they suck. looks like they are playing the biggest cupcake yet in OSU3.
Maybe Oregon's 69-3 blasting of OSU3 wasn't that impressive after all.

Fishing fell through - captain not feeling well. So, we'll just go for a boat ride now and go buy some hogfish later (if they have it).
I guess I'll see some of the game.

bummer Dude

If they are out of hogfish, get hog and fish.

get hog and fish.
Why would you go fishing with Biff Poggi

If they are out of hogfish, get hog and fish.
I could, but I won't. I'll probably get some tripletail if they are out of hogfish (it's really hard to catch) and some oysters.
This place is great. They are not listing hogfish as fresh today.

Triple tail is delicious but yes, very hard to catch. I was looking on this website. You provided to see if they had any royal red shrimp, one of my personal favorites

Even though it’s still extremely warm here in Florida time for my first fall batch of family recipe homemade meat sauce, also known as, Sunday gravy.
Pair that with a couple Oktoberfest!

Wisconsin sucks.

I don’t think I’m generally a hot head, but Fickell should be embarrassed—and should resign. I know that’s not how this is done, but this team is going 2-10.
Unacceptable.

Take a discount on the buyout and resign with some dignity left. Just get the F out of Madison and take Tressel with.
No more Buckeye rejects wanted.

It'd be 3-9 if they'd been lucky enough to have Purdue on the schedule.
It doesn't matter who's the coach, or who's in uniform. You could dress the members of this board up in Badger uniforms and I'd still not bet on Purdue to be able to beat them.
-
Apparently Clemson sucks.
-
Big XII members Texas Tech and Utah are decidedly NOT twelving.

Honestly I don’t know. The Badger offensive line is terrible. Not bad, catastrophic.
-
Fickell, Tressel and Blazek need to be canned at halftime.
AD canned tomorrow.
-
Half as many turnovers as points in xii noon game
-
Dang, you guys have to play September Maryland, while the rest of us get to play post-September Maryland?
Tough draw.
-
That final minute of 1st half in Madison was quite middling.
-
Big XII members Texas Tech and Utah are decidedly NOT twelving.
Which conference is leading the pack in twelving, since the last round of realignment? Is the Big 12 still in the lead?
-
The boobirds are out in force.
Fire Fickell chants are deafening.
The 11-point favorite is down 20-0 at the half.
-
I thought Fickell was a good choice at the time, and I’ve continued to withhold judgment. No more. Fail.
-
Fickel's D has forced the Terps to kick it 5 times; 3 punts and 2FG, one of which was from 49.
The O isn't giving them much help. Nor the kicker.
-
I thought Fickell was a good choice at the time, and I’ve continued to withhold judgment. No more. Fail.
That’s where I am. He has proven he can coach in a big-time way so I was expecting a lot more.
But it’s very surprising to see Wisc. looking this unprepared. A big clue is special teams.
-
I thought Fickell was a good choice at the time, and I’ve continued to withhold judgment. No more. Fail.
We all did. He turned down ND, SC and who knows more. It's an abstract failure on every level.
I now can only wish he was at ND.
-
The Badgers are as lifeless as a team could be. The Lines should be holding up better, yet Maryland is holding leverage. Wisconsin's skill positions are one-dimensional, if that. And it's not like Wisconsin is down (at home) by twenty points to a good team. Maryland is barely decent with lots of dropped passes and drive-killing mistakes. Yeesh - after three seasons the empty roster Paul Chryst left for Fickell is somehow worse!
-

Didn't want Andersen with a 0.731 winning %
Didn't want Chryst witha 0.720 winning %
Didn't want Leonhard a Wisconscin guy
Maybe the brand is just slipping since BA & BB left
Should have kept Leonhard IMHO

The Bulls are really taking it to the Cocks.

The brand is fine. The head coach sucks.
Andersen was a bad fit. Chryst failed to adapt with the times (and went a whole year without a recruiting department). JT23 covered a lot of warts from 2017-2019.
Leonhard didn't like to recruit. He's where he belongs - in the NFL.
-

Accepted MSU, then changed his mind. At least we dont owe Mel money
-
Anderson left; he wasn’t forced out. Chryst: what Badge said. I was surprised at the firing at the time, but McIntosh made the decision. He’s stuck with the outcome, which is NOT GOOD.
-
Wow. Just turned the TV on. Time to bring Alvarez out of retirement and for Wisconsin football to return.

Down 17 in the 3rd quarter, on 3rd and 7. QB takes a knee.
-
Insiders all believed Chryst stopped recruiting, particularly after Covid. I certainly don’t have any reason to say otherwise.

Literally every time they have started to get going they have shot themselves in the foot. The talent is mostly there (except for on the o-line), but this team is bad.
-

Even during the the Cooper years at tOSU when he would continually shoot himself and the program in the foot, instate players still signed with the home team.I'm not seeing that as much at UW specially with 0-Lineman. Did the well run dry or are they going with other options?
-

Edwards isn't great but it didn't help with him getting hurt
-
Badgers just can’t find anyway to slow down the Terps line/rush. Nothing has been effective. Just brutal.
-
And O’Neill takes them out of FG range.
-
The End.
Call Alvarez tomorrow. He won't put up with this shit.
Fickell looks like a deer in the headlights. He can take his wad of gum and shove it.
-
Wahington dead to rights in the end zone for a sack, Maryland out to the 30 now.
These team sucks.
I should have stayed out on the boat for the day.

lol.

McIntosh should be on the sideline negotiating terms right now.

I don't have time for that at this point.

I'll take the job for 500k. Can't possibly do worse or Call BA back, K State did that with Snyder. Doubt he would there's just so much involved

I feel like an oddball that I just like boating. Never owned a fishing rod in my life. I'm not going out there to catch dinner, it's not 732 BC. I'm just having some fun. Maybe go for a dip.

Ya well you try it with 12 ounces in the other hand - resistance training
-
The Wisconsin QB moving forward just threw a touchdown pass.
I'm done with the Maryland kid. He's made of glass. I'm done with the midget with no brain.
Hunter Simmons it is.
Of course...
That won't happen. This coaching staff sucks.

10 minutes of core, 20 minutes glutes & legs, and then 30 minutes upper body. Followed by a shower...
Now time for a beer with my Boilermakers.
We'll see how long I last before changing the channel.
At least I have a black diamond marinated flank steak (https://www.seriouseats.com/black-diamond-steak-marinade-recipe) to look forward to throwing on the grill tonight. Somehow I don't think it will be served in celebration.

Purdue can't run the ball against FBS competition...
So what do they do the first two plays against Notre Dame? Draws right up the gut for a combined 1 yard, leading to a 3 and out.
Punt it away, and instead of running the ball right down Purdue's throat, they run play-action, hit a deep ball, and it's 7-0.
FFS.
-
WTH Ruhle gotta take the easy points - stats prove this out
-
That bounce was better than a return, lets go UNL
-
That punt returned itself.
-
There we go, Boilers! Trickeration!
All tied up at 7!

What's going on in Eugene?

Very disappointing start here.

Can’t throw a deep ball better than that and this dipshit butter fingers Goodwin who is good for at least 3 drops a game drops a touchdown.

I am impressed with Michigan play calling. And especially their front 7 on D.

Nice snag by M's no 23

Purdue extends a drive with a fake punt!
Punter's got some wheels!

Underwood is a freak. Sheesh.

Michigan looks good. This game isn’t going to be close.

Hmm... We're stirring pots today?
Purdue has as many points 10 seconds into the 2nd quarter as Wisconsin had all day--likely against tougher competition.

Purdue would handle Wisconsin. No question.

Nah. You could line up my daughter's 7th grade flag football team on the OL for Wisconsin and they'd still run for 350 on Purdue.
I won't believe that Purdue can beat ANY Wisconsin team until I see it happen.

Jyaire Hill sucks. He’s just a really dumb football player.
#3 had Dylan Raiola dead to rights on a sack. Wtf was that?

not gonna lie- not impressed with Nebraska at all. Y’all kinda suck. Michigan is blowing this- should be up waaaaay more. Makes me think Michigan is just pretty meh this year. Sloppy team that makes too many mistakes and has a dog shit OC and dog shit WR’s.
if Michigan was a legit team this year this game would be 21-0 right now minimum cause Nebraska kinda sucks imo.
-
Man- Clemson. Wow
Dabo is finished.
-
Well, with a interception after a deflected ball, it's now 28-10 Domers.
As badge would say... fND.
As Boilermakers say, POTFI!

Dabo is finished.
I'll take him.

Nothing a defense can do there - well done 'Skers get your game back.Nebraska took it back that was no gimmee

Not a good take here. UNL doesn't suck. Rhule has them turning a corner.

nothing a defense can do there?
it was a busted coverage and absolute shit defensive call from Wink. hes good for a couple of those a game.
where was the safety in the middle of the field? Nebraska can’t block your rush when you send 3- great idea to send the house and leave no one in the middle of the field Wink- you fucking moron.

I just don't understand why Belichick took that job?

This UM-UNL game is getting crazy!
I was about to post that UM has 41 yards passing and hasn't converted a 3rd down and is winning....but forget that.

Purdue-ND going into a weather delay. Second in 2 weeks for Purdue.
-
Actually got a midday break from the marching band competition. This morning during Prelims my kids' band placed 1st in their 5A division and will compete in Finals tonight, I think they have a shot to win the whole thing, even against some of the bigger 6A bands that compete and win the 6A state championship every year.
Finals start tonight at 7 but we're performing last at `10:15. Gonna be a late night.

Brandyn Hillman is a fucking retard. What in the absolute fuck was that? You had them off the field with 4 and 14 and you get an unsportsmanlike penalty for taunting which gave them a first down?
Michigan is a sloppy undisciplined idiot team. They should be destroying Nebraska right now.
Hillman needs to be fucking benched right now. Jesus fucking Christ why is his retard ass still on the field?

Barham just got held…why was that not called?

Hey lighten up I lost reception for a half hour and haven't seen shyt :character0029: pretty sure I MFed everyone and everything. And apologize if i left anything out
-
It appears Nebraska is absolutely devoid of being able to make a play when it matters
-
Teenage Bryce Underwood stabilizing the offense on his back to grind out a high-pressure drive is pretty impressive. No, the Wolverines didn't finish with a TD, but they shaved 8 minutes off the clock and added a late FG to go up 10 and likely put this road game out of reach.
-
UNL needs better trench play. They look weak on both lines.
-
Auburn v Oklahoma has been good game

The "Hey Arnold" Bowl
-
I really like the UM RBs.
I don't get the rollout, quick-out pass plays for Underwood. That's not an easy throw. They did it multiple times in the 2nd half.
-
Despite the loss- and the Nebraska o-line getting smoked all day by the UM defense- Raiola looks pretty good.
-
Unless Florida gets some fluke long TDs early, idk how we're going to win. Got some D-linemen out and the offense has been a shit sandwich this year.
-
So are they moving Illinois v Indiana over to Peacock?
-
I really like the UM RBs.
I don't get the rollout, quick-out pass plays for Underwood. That's not an easy throw. They did it multiple times in the 2nd half.
I can’t figure out if there’s bad play calling or Underwood isn’t being patient. I’m pretty sure it’s the play calling, but it’s definitely very odd either ways running game and defensive line look good for Michigan. Nebraska in the trenches does not. Raiola is a really fun qb to watch. I feel bad his line isn’t a bit better but that kid is really talented and seems like a really good kid.
-
Auburn v Oklahoma has been good game
great game. best game of the day and lived up to the hype. both these teams are excellent on the defensive front 7.
John Mateer is your Heisman favorite right now. Kid is a total stud.

Michigan is better at RB this year than last. Mullings was a really good back, but Haynes is just better. Justice Haynes was a 5* and can see why. Pretty baffling Bama barely used him last year- but then again Kalen DaBoer is allergic to the run game. Jordan Marshall showing he's a stud as well- but he showed that last year in the bowl game vs Bama. Former high 4* top 80 in the nation overall recruit- so was no slouch himself coming out just not quite as highly rated as Haynes.
Michigan's passing game play calling always leaves a lot to be desired on offense. No different this year. And the WR's are total donkey do-do. Priority number one this off-season has to be throw a trillion dollars in the porhole at some seasoned talented WR's. Ryan Williams name your price kid, Larry Ellison got you.
-
Despite the loss- and the Nebraska o-line getting smoked all day by the UM defense- Raiola looks pretty good.
Nebraska is complete ass on both lines of scrimmage. Year 3 into the Matt Rhule project they shouldn't be this bad. Temu Mahomes is LEGIT- kid took a beating and kept slinging it. His WR's are pretty good as well, but his OL/RB's leave a lot to be desired.
-
looks like Will Compton has to shave his head and face and give $50,000 to a Michigan NIL collective, as Michigan is victorious in the Bussin Bowl once again.

Yeah, this is the same garbage offense we've been doing. 2 slow-ass TEs in, every play design is for 5 yards or less. The defense is good, but won't hold up.
Why bother having a bunch of fast WRs and a big QB if you're going to put a restrictor plate on them as a HC?!??

I didn't think the dline was bad, but the safeties...woof.
But great win for Michigan, because they showed enough offensive punch to show they can win in a few ways, unlike last year.

Underwood getting better every week, OL getting better as well. RB's are studs. WR's continue to suck ass and are major concern though. team is a legit #1 WR away from being a real problem for anyone in the nation by years end.
also...turns out OU is pretty damn good. bad loss, but maybe that loss isn't completely terrible.

Dayum the Hoosiers and the Ducks both made statements,Ducks simply reloaded & are hungrier than last season. Dante Moore went 31-41 for 305 yards and a four touchdowns to as many different receivers :o. Ducks amassed 585 total yds and with 280 coming on the ground.I know it's vs OSU 2-3-4 whatever you want to call them but still.
Many myself included thought the Hoosiers were a one and done but if last nite is an indicator then how wrong can we be?They certainly seemed to catch lightning in a bottle and just poured it on at home.Mendoza threw for five touchdowns and sending this contest lopsided by the end of the 1st half.Against what was thought to be a stout Illini squad and their first win over a top 10 foe in five years. It was the worst loss of coach Bret Bielema's tenure at Illinois and the worst for the Illini since a 63-0 rout at home against Iowa in 2018 and extended Hoosierss school record home winning streak to 12, under Curt Cignetti.
If they can keep this up and stay focused they and the Ducks might be the Game of the Week on Oct 11

Oregon is legit. They had a top rated class, spent a ton in the porthole and Dante Moore is finally living up to the 'crootin' stars/hype now that he's out of that shithole program UCLA.
Indiana, still not sure about. I think it's pretty clear that Illinois was insanely overrated as a top 10 team and for no good reason to be honest. They don't have much in the way of NFL talent on that roster and BERT is a continually overrated fat fuck head coach. What has he really done as a coach? When you break it down and do a deep dive...not much. Indiana has a great offensive system and head coach- but how are their lines of scrimmage? We're about to find out in the next couple of weeks when they play Iowa and Oregon back to back weeks.

UNL needs better trench play. They look weak on both lines.
for shit sakes!!!!
I thought the O-line wasn't great, but they would hold up better than that!
31 rushes for 43 yards???
7 sacks and QB running for his life all day by rushing 4?
Knew damn well the D-line was weak :73:

Michigan does have one of the best front 7's in CFB- but no doubt Nebraska has to be better up front on the o-line.
Jaishawn Barhman move to EDGE has been a revelation, that kid is impossible to block for most CFB tackles one on one. He's a future NFL EDGE. Derrick Moore has been banged up all season and finally getting back to health and you saw how good he is when he's right. He's also a future NFL EDGE. And he terrorized NEB tackles all day long. They have good depth behind those guys as well. Really good depth at DT as well. Rayshaun Benny is a DUDE at DT and he showed that once again.

Agreed on both counts.
O-line coach / star QB uncle Dominic has been there 4 or 5 years. Shouldn't have been retained from Frost's staff.
Threw portal $$$ at the guard from ND and the Left Tackle from Bama and still SUCK! Absolutely SUCK!!!
Might as well spent that money on a couple D-tackles that weigh 330+ and could stuff the run.
Raiola played a helluva game IMO
Never got frustrated, stayed calm. Kept coming. Took a beating.
Should have taken more shots downfield - I blame the O-coordinator - I understand deep routes can take more time to develop but not all of them do.
31-40 308 yards 3tds only 1 pick vs that pressure???
with a clean pocket, the kid beats Michigan
-
corngrats to Michigan, Biff, & Underwood - great road win
I'm grumpy this morning and obviously was grumpy during the game but saw this coming after the Cincy game.
not equally matched teams - Michigan should have put the game away by halftime or midway thru the 3rd.
I thought the line was wrong, I'd have picked Michigan by 7-10.
the game really should have been about 40-20

I think Cignetti likes being where he is. The expectations at Florida are not realistic (win the MNC every year).
He's got Mark Cuban money at IU. They'll have a statue of himself made if he keeps IU in the picture.
NIL is weak at Florida compared to Miami and FSU. IU has more money than Florida.
Keeping Florida in the picture gets you fired from Florida.
I'd be a hard pass on that gig - especially as a 64 y/o man.

Exactly. You don't have to do much to be beloved at IU (or Purdue, or a bunch of other schools). You really just have to make football fun. 8-4 & 9-3 seasons with 6-6 being a "down year" is completely acceptable.
I am sure there's not an IU fan on the planet--folks here like @LetsGoPeay (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=7) included--that think IU ever's going to win the whole thing.
But IU 2024 was a HELL of a lot more fun than Purdue 2024.

Nebraska could've been called for like 10 holds. far as I remember they didn't called for holding once.
maybe the refs just felt bad for their OL that Michigan was murdering them on live tv?

7 total penalties
Michigan 4-39 yards (15 for taunting) coulda been 3-24
Huskers 3-9 yards
pretty clean game or crew swallowed their whistles

pretty sure NOBODY is feeling sorry for Michigan regarding Big Ten officiating crew calls
