Stumbled across this online thought I'd post before forgetting - "Pop" Warner, "Bump" Elliot,"Rip" Engle,"Woody" Hayes, "Bear" Bryant
Here are a few fetched from the net
- Jake Butt being tight end kind of appropriate
- Navy had a guy named Wave Ryder. If that's not a perfect name to play for Navy then what is?
- Nebraska had a few - I.M. Hipp, Jarvis Redwine, Richie Incognito, Prince Amukamara who apparently is an actual prince since he's descended from African royalty
- Arkansas had some Dicks at QB while they had a Nutt for HC.
- Alabama and Oklahoma State both had Ears Whitworth as their head coach. After being fired at Alabama for racking up a 4ā24ā2 record,he went to UGA to be a line coach for Wally Butts
- Auburn had a player/coach (and math professor) named Boozer Pitts. He was actually head football coach twice
- Dick Crum though I wouldn't feed him to the pigeons
- And the afore mentioned Michigan's Horace Prettyman in another thread
- Quincy Adeboyjeo (pronounced atta boy joe!)
- Texas evidently had a Philander Moore they also had a Austin Maverick
- 2009 Mr. Irrelevant from Arkansas ....Ryan Succop
- There was a Boobie Hobbs out there somewhere
- There was a Crazy Legs Hirsch, played one varsity season at Wisconsin, then the next at Michigan, after enlisting in the Marines during World War II.
What do ya have to add?

I remember that dude. Always felt bad for him.

Michael Stonebreaker as a name for a LB is right out of central casting. In fact, if I were watching a football movie and a character had that name Iād roll my eyes at the absurdity of it. Kinda felt the same way about Colt McCoy as the QB of Texas.

If the 49ers had drafted him, he'd have made bank in jersey sales.

A local urologist here in Austin is named Dr. Richard Chop. And yes, he goes by Dick.

There can't be anyone under retirement age that goes by Dick. It's all old people. Like Dick Vitale.
-
Why would you? In 2025, it's like being named Penis Smith.
Old names: Martha, Phyllis,...we have a 2nd-grader named Leland, that's an "old name" imo, Cecil, Ernest (these are just form my older family members), Gwendolyn (they'd just be named Gwen now)

Mabel, Gertrude, Mildred, Agnes...
