We know your least favorite P5 team, it's your rival. Duh.
Who is that G5 team that really rubs you the wrong way?
I guess I'd have to go with Oregon State at this point. After decades of dragging the OSU name through mud, just when you didn't think that they could possibly get any worse, poof. They don't even have a seat at the P5 table.
What about you? UCF and their "NC"? Liberty? Eastern Michigan?...
Having a little trouble deciding between Appalachian State and Toledo? :098:
-
I guess mine is Boise.
As a big stats guy, when you look at the top teams and highest-ranked teams over the past 30 years, you've got your bluebloods/kings...and Boise.
They make every 'top' list, being a G5, Johnny-come-lately.
And don't get me wrong, what they did is great. Respect. But they grew their program on high school schedules....as a high school type program. Tallest midget. Great. Good for you.
But stay out of the top-ranked rankings, please. You do not belong.

UConn.

BYU

UCF and BYU are not G5.
They are A2 (Almost 2).
There is no such thing as the P4.
It is P2 and A2.

UCF and BYU are not G5.
they should be
same with Cincinnati
-
Yeah, that's true. The Big 12 teams are ineligible for this. Pac 12 on the other hand....
-
PAC 12 = Mountain West.
I wonder if they will ever try to get to 12 again.
-
Yeah, that's true. The Big 12 teams are ineligible for this. Pac 12 on the other hand....
BYU, Houston, TCU, UCF, UTah, Cincy

It feels weird to put Oregon State on there, since they were technically some kind of power team until not that long ago.
Also, Liberty for me, even if they do, I have a coach with an offense I generally enjoy.
This exercise also made me realize that there has probably been at least one point when I have had a bit of a soft spot for almost every G5 team just because they were fun.
-
Yeah I have no beef with the G5. Live and let live.
-
Eastern Michigan.
-
Notre Dame.
They can't even get into a G5 conference.

kansas.

Man nwms in here twisting the knife. Don't see the guy for almost a year, but when he returns, he's salty AF.
I like it. :)

Boise State. It’s like..what’s with the blue field bro?

I'm more upset about 1984

I'm more upset about 1984
don’t worry about it. just party like it’s 1999.

We should also do the opposite of this as well. Your favorite team that's not your primary rooting interest.
Least - Miami - no idea why.. have also just disliked the Hurricanes and their teams.. even since the 90's
Favorite not primary - Wisconsin - loved their style of ball for a long time. Always focused on winning the game in the trenches. Always felt like a great midwest football program that was just country strong in the trenches, always had a beast at running back and defensively was just "tough." Maybe not top end talent, but good enough talent mixed with toughness that was good to watch..

This, same reasons.
I'll add an honorable mention for BYU because that 1980s MNC is such a complete joke.

Memphis
That's a good one.
Basically any school that has ever hired John Calipari deserves to be on a most-hated list.

99 was a good season!
-
Yes, it was, minus the loss at Cincy. Made up for it by destroying Ohio State. Our first and only trip to Columbus.
-
I concur with BAB: Liberty. Boise State amuses me. I don't like them for all the same reasons, but I can't get too worked up about them, and that play against Oklahoma in the Fiesta (I think I have my facts right) was a classic CFB moment.

1) ND, but if you guys are not going to allow that, then Auburn because...they are more of an underdog by SEC standards and because of @eltigrerex (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1580) legendary SEC speed.
2) USC (the one in the B1G). Curiously, this has almost nothing to do with ND. Talk about an arrogant fan base and program. Gross.

It is P2 and A2.
We are in a transisition year but by 2026 it will be...
P2, M2 and G6
At that point the Pac will the 6th conference making up the G6.

This reminds me of asking everyone which side you take on random rivalries you don't have a vested interest in.
As for random programs I like, I like when Michigan is good. As a kid, I liked Clemson when I saw them in a Gator Bowl.
I like when ND is good to root against them.
As for rivalries, I'm a UM/UNC/Wash/Oregon/USC/UofA/Utah/Neb/Tex/Tex/Navy guy.

USC-UCLA

TCU. I really hate that team. They play weak schedules, the media harps praise on them when they’re doing well. The beat down Georgia put on them a few years ago was….awesome.
-
I haven’t checked lately but I do know after their first 5 or so years in the Big 12 they had a losing record.

It confirmed a lot.

Also, I hate Liberty, as their biology classes are very different than everyone else's. Fuck that noise.

Nebraska 26
Clemson 21
Jan. 1, 2009 • 12:10 p.m. Central
Gator Bowl • Jacksonville, FL • CBS
Nebraska scored on four consecutive third-quarter possessions to rally from an 11-point halftime deficit and the Blackshirts capped a dominating effort with a late defensive stand as the Huskers came back for a 26-21 victory over Clemson in the Gator Bowl.
The Huskers were poised for the comeback thanks to an outstanding effort from the Blackshirts. Nebraska held Clemson to 210 yards, including only four yards rushing. All 21 Clemson points came off Husker turnovers, while NU forced two Tiger turnovers that led to six important points in the five-point win.
Clemson led 14-3 at halftime thanks to a pair of touchdowns off Husker turnovers. The Nebraska offense then erupted for 20 points in the third quarter, gaining a lead the Huskers would not relinquish with 1:40 remaining in the third quarter. Overall, Nebraska scored the game’s final 16 points thanks to clutch plays from Joe Ganz, Quentin Castille and the offense, and a stout effort from the defense.
After the Tigers converted another turnover into a touchdown to go on top 21-10, the Blackshirts limited five straight Clemson drives to three or fewer plays. The Tigers ran 14 plays during that stretch for minus-six total yards. During the same period, Ganz threw a touchdown pass to Todd Peterson while Alex Henery connected on three field goals to provide the final margin of victory.
Clemson made one final drive in the closing minutes, marching from its own 23 all the way to the NU 10. With a 1st-and-goal opportunity, the Tigers were sacked for a loss of 16 yards and threw three incompletions to seal the victory.

Yeah, I guess a lot of the ones that drew widespread ire are in the Big 12 now
-
Can't believe nobody's mentioned Baylor.
I would have, but they're not G5.
-
It was this one. I loved Major Harris, but I think I was cajoled to root for Clemson because they were 'southern.' I probably went along with it because they had orange helmets & jerseys like Florida.

Baylor has never really been on my radar, for anything
my one visit to Waco was back in 2001 - Huskers were ranked #4 - life was still good
Rain fell during much of the first half and play was suspended for 36 minutes in the second quarter because of lightning.
Four Cornhuskers topped 100 yards rushing, tying an NCAA record, as No. 4 Nebraska overcome five turnovers in sloppy conditions for a 48-7 road victory over Baylor.
Thunder Collins rushed for 165 yards, Dahrran Diedrick for 137, Eric Crouch for 132 and Judd Davies for 119 as Nebraska (7-0, 3-0 Big 12) rolled up 641 yards on the ground.
The Cornhuskers had seven fumbles, including a dropped ball in the end zone by Crouch that Baylor recovered for its only touchdown.

You don't consider WV to be southern?
-
Yes, I don't like Liberty either. Academicly atrocious. Bribed their way into FBS.
-
You don't consider WV to be southern?
No. But it wasn't my consideration, it was the adults around me.
BUT
I assume much of the rest of the country considers all the Appalachian states as "southern," at least south of PA.
But the coastal plain southerners consider the mountain folk a different sort.
WV is rural, probably have an accent, and are mostly poor. That screams "southern."
BUT
Are they especially hospitable? Do they have wrap-around porches? Do they drink sweet tea, have fish frys, or gauge their self-worth by their BBQ?
I don't believe so.
There is a 'southern divide,' and it's about elevation. When you are no longer sweating your balls off every day of summer, with 90% humidity, you're in Appalachia, not 'the south.'
-
Yeah, for me WV is the first state that comes to mind when someone mentions "the South."
Kentucky is next.
-
For me, 'the south' is rural MS-AL-GA-SC. Thick accents. Religious. Judgy. 'Bless your heart' Hot and muggy. Dollar General stores. Towns either have a Wal-Mart or don't. One fast-food joint. The HS football team is the biggest congregation, with the church right behind it.
I guess it's all relative.

I've heard about that relative thing.
-
Yeah it's all based on your perspective.
In Ohio 99% of the people that you encounter who have southern accents are from either WV or KY.

My son and I judge the legitimacy of travel baseball tournaments by the number of Dollar Generals you pass after getting off the interstate, and their proximity to the fields. The more you see, the more likely you are about to play some real stiff competition, or at the very least a 12 year old with a moustache, 2 kids he can't see without chaperoned visitation, a cheek full of chew, and a filthy curveball
-
I love the religiosity of the south and the % of teen pregnancy. I truly believe they don't know what the word 'hypocrisy' means, which leads us to the ugly political stuff.

Hmmm...
I wonder what states have the highest percentage of grandparents under 40 yo?
-
The ones with the highest % of church-goers.....

hypocrusy is banning political discussion but allowing anti religion discussion
I take great offense to this

It's a hypocrisy discussion.

I think you're way too high on that %. I always surprised by the accents I encounter when in Cincinnati. Its the same in Kentuckiana (southern regions of IN, south of Bloomington/Columbus, IN).

Two different accents.
If they say Ohiya instead of Ohio, that's called a southern Ohiya accent.
-
We had a time-share down by St. Pete beach when I was a teen and we'd see the same people each year. One was a not-unattractive girl from Ohio, with her family. She had a hell of an accent. I liked it.

Did the Bulls gain any ground on the Broncos this weekend?
-
No, we earned that loss. I went to USF my freshman year, actually.
I've been mildly surprised that USF hasn't done what UCF has, in terms of program ascension.
They're basically the same, but one is in the Big XII and the other is in whatever the fuck.
