Title: New Mexico (0-1) at #14 Michigan (1-0) Postgame
Post by: Temp430 on August 29, 2025, 09:09:51 AM
New Mexico's new head coach brough a lot of Vandals with him to Albuquerque.  No less than 75 new players for the Lobos.  What happened to last year's Lobos?  Don't like this portal crap.

The game is 7:30 PM Saturday on NBC or Peacock.  Michigan starts a just turned 18 year old at QB.  Michigan's defense should be good and they should win this game handily.  Hoping the game is such that QB #2 gets in as early as possible because he needs the experience too.

Does this game really deserve a thread?

You're playing the #2 team from a state whose #1 team just took a big steaming #2 against South Florida.

It's not like the Lobos are some powerhouse like Appalachian State...

Why does the thread topic have reference to Idaho, when Michigan is playing New Mexico?

LOL... I didn't even catch that.

The only good thing to come from New Mexico is green chiles.

He's only nominally from New Mexico. He was born on the planet Krypton.

You are kinda just asking to get upset, when you mix up your opponent with the Idaho Vandals.

The 2025 Lobos have more in common with the 2024 Vandals than the 2025 Vandals.

Michigan is appealing the targeting call on LB Barham to the Big Ten.  As things stand he’s out for the first half in Norman.

that shit show last night was all your fault with this bullshit ass dumbass thread title mocking the opponent. the internet gods repaid you in kind and the rest of Michigan faithful suffered for it. do me a favor and don't create another Michigan game week thread all season. please and thanks.

I must say the Lobos played better than I thought they would.  And Underwood was way better than my most optimistic hopes.  Lots for Michigan to clean up but overall a solid first game of the season.

MDot, I bet you shat your pants when Morgan muffed that punt.  Lol

They’re going to have to play much better to beat the Sooners.

I was shitting my pants all game. Especially when Barhmam got ejected for a BS call and the refs basically gifted them a TD that drive with so many bad calls and bs penalties.

they ain't beating the Sooners.

Quick thoughts on the offense:

I like where the OL is heading, but it's still way too inconsistent at times and needs more time to gel more. which is not great for next week on the road in hostile environment vs a very talented OU front. would feel much better if this game was say- week 6 or 8. week 2? that's a rough spot.

Jordan Marshall seemed to have an off-day. which was fine because Justice Haynes was in a groove. need Marshall to bounce back. Marlin Klein is a stud TE.

Quick thoughts on the defense:

Cole Sullivan needs to start. Somewhere. Where, I don't care where- that kid is going to be a SPECIAL linebacker.

Nate Marshall and Dominic Nichols are the best pure pass rushers this team has. By far. Holy shit do they both flash and jump out across the screen. I get that Derrick Moore & TJ Guy are the vets and starters and probably better run defenders- but neither of them have the same kind of quick twitch or "juice" rushing the passer that Dominic Nichols and Nate Marshall flying off the edge rushing the QB. Nichols and Marshall look/feel like future 1st rd EDGE rushers.

the velocity and accuracy he got on this throw while on the run rolling out throwing to the other side of the field across his body is pretty absurd. Drew Henson type shit.

game was very weird. all the fault of Temp430 if you ask me.

as noted in the post below, 10 of New Mexico points came off of turnovers, 6 of which came off a trick play. 6 also came on the drive with the bullshit target call on Jaishawn Barham and the missed 3rd down incompletion- that drive should've been dead twice and Michigan should've gotten the ball back.

Michigan rotated a ton and played 31 players on defense last night, with some young guys like LB Cole Sullivan, EDGE Dominic Nichols, and EDGE Nate Marshall looking extremely promising.

EDGEs Derrick Moore and TJ Guy off to the NFL draft after this year.

Dominic Nichols and true frosh 5* Nate Marshall got next.

5* EDGE Carter Meadows got next after them.

Michigan is a DL factory right now. Choo Choo. All-abord.

Michigan offense was all-time bad last year.

Last night's game Michigan had:

More yards of total offense (452) than it did in ANY game in 2024.
More passing yards (251) than it did in ANY game in 2024.
More rushing yards (201) than it did in 11 games in 2024.
More offensive points scored (34) than it did in 12 games in 2024.

Last year Michigan's longest passing play was 36 yards. Bryce Underwood's 11th pass attempt went for 39 yards, beating the longest pass play they had all season last year.

Michigan offensive plays of 50+ yards:

Season opener vs. New Mexico: 2
In the entire 2024 season: 2

Michigan pass plays of 30+ yards:

Season opener vs. New Mexico: 2
In the entire 2024 season:

lot of new faces and kinks to work out on offense- and it was just a weird ass game in general. watch it for yourself if you want. horrendous officiating, trick plays, and a muffed kick return pretty much gifted New Mexico all their points. again, I blame Temp430. bastage.

I'll give New Mexico props I guess. They fought, didn't quit. Head coach threw the kitchen sink, QB took a beating and kept throwing picks, and that TE #7 they have is actually really damn good and could be a P4 starter on a lot of teams imo.

Did you watch the game? Honest question because reading a box score can be very misleading. I’ll give you two easy examples. One of the turnovers was the NM qb on 4th down at their own 40 throwing it up for grabs, got picked and acted like a punt at Michigan’s own 20 and if they would have batted it down instead of the turnover, they would have had the ball on the NM 40 instead of their own 20.

2) looking at a box score, Arch Manning had 170 yards passing and 38 yards rushing to Sayin’s 126 and 2. The box score would say Sayin was pretty bad, when in reality is he ran a very efficient offense and should have been 16/20 with more yardage due to dropped passes.

Seeing stats doesn’t tell the entire story. I’ll give New Mexico, especially their offense and qb credit. Qb got destroyed all night and kept getting up and made some pretty incredible throws. Secondly, some of the trick plays were wild and successful.

as an M fan, my concern is the defense is not what it’s been the last 2-3 years, especially the d-line. That being said, their offense finally has a pulse. We’ll learn a lot this week. That being said, if I’m a stud receiver that’s considering transferring or a superstar coming out of high school that could start day 1, I’d be watching Underwood very closely. if I’m receiver #1, I’d want to be with that qb.

They did. Fumble on a kickoff return.  Sort of to the point. Some turnovers are a huge advantage, some are not. A team can have two turnovers and the other zero but if both turnovers were Hail Mary passes at the end of the game and end of the first half, it may not tell the story because the advantage gained from those specific turnovers would be minimal. Now that being said, 2 of the 3 New Mexico turnovers were impactful.

lol you son of a gun.

no they play Oklahoma in Norman. there is NO WAY they win that game imo. too early in the season for an OL that shows promise but needs time to gel and it's the true frosh QB's 2nd college start ever. would much rather this game have been scheduled like games 4-6 than game 2. oh well.
