Bruce Phillip Smith (February 8, 1920 – August 28, 1967), nicknamed "Boo", was an American football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football)player best known for winning the Heisman Trophy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisman_Trophy) in 1941.
Smith was born in Faribault, Minnesota (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faribault,_Minnesota), where he excelled in high school football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school_football) under the coach Win Brockmeyer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Win_Brockmeyer) at Faribault High School. The football field at Faribault High is now named after him. He attended the University of Minnesota (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Minnesota), playing halfback (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halfback_(American_football)) for the back-to-back national champion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_football_national_championships_in_NCAA_Division_I_FBS) Gophers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Golden_Gophers_football) in 1940 and 1941. Smith was captain of the 1941 Minnesota team (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1941_Minnesota_Golden_Gophers_football_team). He received the Heisman two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor). Smith earned first team All-American and All-Big Ten Conference honors in 1941.

With his exceptional pass and run protection for Bear Bryant, Jordan helped Alabama finish 11-0 in 1961 and 10-1 in 1962. He famously made 30 tackles in a 17-0 victory over Oklahoma in the 1962 Orange Bowl and was named the game's most outstanding player.
