Been in trial, one that didn't end and goes back next week. Which always kind of sucks because you can't quite let go of it for the weekend. But with a glass of wine in hand and a couple pizzas on the way, we soldier on. Temps are slowly dropping in Columbus. It was misty and in the 50's today, the leaves are still dropping, and the dogs are on the fence of whether they want to go outside or not.
We are hitting the stretch run of the season. While everyone is talking playoffs for the Top Four, the Bottom, uh, Fourteen are still jockeying for position. Well, at least everyone but Purdue.
Schedule
- UCLA (4-5) at Washington (5-5), Friday, 9 pm, FOX
- #2 OSU (8-1) at Northwestern (4-5), Noon, BTN
- MSU (4-5) at Illinois (6-3), 2:30 pm, FS1
- #4 PSU (8-1) at Purdue (1-8), 3:30 pm, CBS
- Nebraska (5-4) at USC (4-5), 4 pm, FOX
- Rutgers (5-4) at Maryland (4-5), 6 pm, FS1
- #1 Oregon (10-0) at Wisconsin (5-4), 7:30 pm, NBC
Others
- #3 Texas at Arkansas, Noon, ABC
- Utah at #17 Colorado, Noon, FOX
- Virginia at #8 ND, 3:30 pm, NBC
- #22 LSU at Florida, 3:30 pm, ABC
- #23 Mizzou at #21 South Carolina, 4:15, SECN
- #7 Tennessee at #12 Georgia, 7:30 pm, ABC
- Kansas at #6 BYU, 10:15 pm, ESPN
-
UT/GA should be a good one maybe 'Skers/Trojans
Kansas Jayhawks have lost by scores of 6,3,4,11,4,11 and one oopsie by 28 vs Houston not winning the close ones.Based on BYU getting gifted last week vs Utah I might have taken the them vs BYU if it wasn't on the road

What’s on tomorrow’s menu? You are typically a “ last minute” guy.

I am and it's a good question. Supposed to be nice weather tomorrow - I haven't grilled in a while so hopefully Kroger has something good tomorrow to smoke up. OTOH the wife has been craving chicken parm and I have some buttermilk in the fridge, so might as well fry something up.
-
needed to be fitted for a tux for my buddy's wedding in Florida, wanted to take the vette but the small narrow seat wasn't comfortable
stopped by the inn afterwards for a few schooners of beer and a charlie boy, the bar stool wasn't comfortable, stood at the rail..
hernia surgery recovery isn't going as well as normal, we soldier on!
ready for UCLA (4-5) at Washington (5-5), 8 pm, FOX

Chicken Parm. Yes please.
being in Florida- it’s always a good time to grill. Think I am going with shish kebabs

That's it Buster no wining/dining Bwarb tips for you - one year

Doing BBQ pork spare ribs this weekend but probably waiting until the kids get back from Indianapolis on Sunday.
So for tomorrow I'm thinking maybe grilled burgers with green chile, bacon, and Oaxaca cheese.
Horns play the hated pigs at 11 AM, so it'll probably be a late lunch.

Ya well stay off the dance floor and fer god sakes don't go grabbing the garter. It's hell at the bottom for the pile and even worse for the poor sap who catches it

If you looking for a jarred sauce and like it spicy, I highly recommend Mezzetta Spicy Marinara. I have made my own sauce but mostly don't bother since I found that.
A good shish kebab is great. It wasn't exactly the same thing, but the best I made was from a beef tenderloin that I sliced thin, marinated in some Thai themed stuff like fish sauce and bird's eye chilis, then mushed them back together on a stick for grilling.

Oh yeah back in the olden days when we played every year, my dad's radio station would do a whole-hog BBQ for the tailgate party.

hopefully, fully recovered by then

12/7 is a great day. That's the date of the first ever B12 CCG, where Texas and Nebraska squared off in 1996.
Anybody remember what happened in that game?

Which poster could put away the most bacon in one sitting?

Bwarb or Badge, maybe FF if he fantasizes about Runzas perhaps 94 if he marinates them in Tito's

My money's on bwar, I eat like an old grandma these days.

Yes when you get older you lose metabolism. I can get full and bloated just from driving by a restaurant and smelling it.
-
The officiating is unbelievable now in college football. They have to have a 10 minute conference for every penalty they call and they seem to get almost every replay wrong even when they’re obvious.
-
Netflix dragging a very disinterested Holyfield to the set for boxing analysis. He has nothing to add. Very awkward. Lennox Lewis bailing him out.
-
Holyfield may have been hit in the head a few times
-
Re: Tyson I have no interest at all in YouTuber v. Ancient Tyson, but I would watch the undercard if it weren't for Buckeye basketball being on

He had ear infections from Iron Mike nibbling on them

Re: Tyson I have no interest at all in YouTuber v. Ancient Tyson, but I would watch the undercard if it weren't for Buckeye basketball being on
The undercard is awful. Boxing is dead
-
not surprising
-
This Washington QB ain't no Michael Penix...
-
And of course Wash ends up winning at home, dominating UCLA after UCLA had won 3 in a row. Wash has now won all 4 conference games at home and lost all 4 conference games on the road.
It's the new Big Ten. Anybody (in the bottom 14) can beat anybody (in the bottom 14). The only reason I include Purdue in that because they have lost 2 games in OT.
-
The undercard is awful. Boxing is dead
Really? - twitter seemed to love Ramos-Barrios

Oh it definitely has - they kept chasing money and PPV's so much that now no one knows who is even boxing anymore. You have to take out a small business loan just to watch.

Prop your local sports bar

Do sportsbars really even have Netflix? It's not one of the normal services/apps that carries a lot of sports streaming events.

Maybe for this they might have bought a few days worth or used some promotion?
Good question.

Usually those streaming services charge more to bars. Not sure about Netflix since they are just breaking in...and it went horribly

one of the local bars here got popped by peacock or Prime video for carrying games - $1800
the bar used an employee's account
as you know bars pay substantially more for a prescription than an individual
-
Coach Cig gets an extension and raise for IU.
Did they up the buyout?

Not all the details have been released, but it puts him at 8 million a year with a $1 million per year retention bonus.

Nowhere to go but down, lol.

Hey, that Illinois QB from a decade ago.....how do you say his name? Scheelhaase

I'd throw my hat in that competition. Even if I don't win, that'll be a lot of delicious, delicious bacon.
-

I don't know that I even know how to get PPV any more, given that I don't have cable.
Or, more accurately, I don't know how to get anything that's more PPV than all the streaming services I already pay to view :57:

I once made the mistake of eating a heaping plate of bacon at a Shoney's.......didn't feel well later.

I'm good for 2-3 strips. That's enough.

I once made the mistake of eating a heaping plate of bacon at a Shoney's.......didn't feel well later.
Not sure if that's the bacon or if everything at a Shoney's would do that. :57:
I'm pretty sure I might be the biggest eater here... My question is who would be the runner-up?
-
I'm pretty sure I might be the biggest eater here... My question is who would be the runner-up?
Not me, that's for sure. I used to eat a lot. Can't do it anymore - get full pretty quickly and always have a take home box now.
-
I don't eat a lot anymore, but when I was very active from 17 to 25, I ate unholy amounts of food.

Same.

I'm not a big guy but I used to eat 3/4 to a full pound package of bacon
pairs well with beer

Bacon originated in China around 1500 BCE, when people began salting and curing pork belly. The curing process allowed bacon to travel well and be a source of protein for people without refrigeration. The word "bacon" comes from Germanic and French dialects, including the Old French word bacun, which originally referred to all pork.
History Of Bacon (https://www.englishbreakfastsociety.com/history-of-bacon.html)
I am guessing there is a "Bacon Lobby" in the US somewhere encouraging us to eat it at breakfast.

That was one of the strange things about Ireland. They called things "bacon" that were not bacon lol. They weren't even pork belly.
I think one I ordered was a slow-cooked and sliced pork shoulder, and another was a pork chop, which they called a "bacon chop".

Just a thought of eating at a Shoneys makes me ill. When I was in college and we had to stay on campus over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks we had to meet every morning at Shoney’s for breakfast. I am still seeing and feeling that disgusting cheese “sauce“ in my mind and getting sick.
-
Don't remember ever eating at a Shoneys
apparently, I'm lucky
-
I didn't know Shoney's still existed. All of the Illannoy stores closed long ago.

Still dark here in pre-dawn Honolulu where work has me onsite this past week. Got Gameday airing in the hotel room where I am working on emails to ready for the workday. Plan is to catch the early games - flipping between Texas @ Arkansas & Utah @ Colorado before heading into the jobsite for the late-morning, early-afternoon.
My younger cousin Aaron from Seattle is a Boatswain's Mate aboard a Navy ship moored this weekend here at Pearl Harbor. He's a big Seahawks fan so tomorrow I am treating him to Brunch in Waikiki to watch the 49ers-Seahawks game.
Meanwhile, outside my hotel balcony is about the brightest moon I've seen - taken during the 4am hour:

Try my food lifestyle. Local steak, eggs and vegetables. A little bit of fruit, almonds, walnuts and seafood mixed in the rest of the week, but primarily the first grouping multiple times a day. Cut off food by 7pm. I eat incredibly large amount and my weight is almost embarrassingly light.

November's full Beaver Supermoon reaches peak illumination on Friday, November 15, 2024. This is our fourth and final Supermoon of the year!

I know you're just jabbing at me, but of course there is. And it's done a great job of diversifying, becoming required at every sandwich and burger place in the country. Even for salad and scallops - all of which are non-breakfast foods.

Chicken parm it is. Think I cover in buttermilk and dredge in a mixture of flour, panko, and parmesan.

including the Old French word bacun, which originally referred to all pork.
The piratical term "buccaneer" is from the French word for the device to smoke pork (boar) and the resulting jerky on Hispanola.

kinda like bacon........
who doesn't like a full Beaver Supermoon?

working for the bacon lobby seems a much easier job than the egg lobby
I mean, bacon doesn't come out of a chicken's butt hole

I melt Muenster cheese on mine, after a sprinkle of parm. Way better than mozzarella.
Doesn't the parm in the batter burn while cooking?

Colorado up 14-3 over Utah after an impressive punt return for TD. With Utah at 4-5, all the injuries to the Utes offense hasn’t helped, but overall Kyle Whittingham has uncharacteristically mismanaged this season, starting with the QB. With all his injuries, to the point of steady regression, Cam Rising should’ve never had the season put on his back, and Utah is paying for it now by trying to weather a depleted QB room that could’ve otherwise been an attractive landing for a QB from the Portal had Whittingham moved on from Rising.
I genuinely have never understood people eating boiled eggs. What part of it is good?
Our taste for eggs is likely an evolved holdover from mankind’s much earlier, prehistoric beginnings when humans first discovered eggs as a dependable source of daily protein. Given the rugged times of the past when a steady 2000 calorie diet took much more effort than hobbling over to Circle K for a breakfast burrito, the discovery that a bird as plentiful and domestic as chickens could provide 8-10 grams of protein a day was a minor miracle and fortified millions of diets through past ages.
Is that the Hilton Hawaiian Village?
Not quite. But shifting to the left one series of towers over, there it is, the very large Hilton Hawaiian Village oceanfront complex:

Yeah, but some things you just get used to. Upthread we had someone (Nubbz?) waxing poetic about pierogi... Basically you take potatoes (cheap af) and pasta (cheap af) and put one in the other, and suddenly this is supposed to be appetizing?
No, this is food people ate because they were too poor to afford anything else and this was the easiest ways to get calories and not starve.
Ooh, and when you're feeling "rich", you can add a tiny amount of cheese and onion in there too! What a luxury!
-
Everyone has a price.
Considering i am retired don't need the money it would take lifestyle money.
-
I like eggs. Others may not. Fine with me.
-
I would rather starve. For real.
I feel the same way about beer and wine.
We are culinary slaves to tradition.
Fermentation is when something has turned or gone bad. But it messed people up thousands of years ago and so we call it an "acquired taste" which is simply code for culinary slave to tradition.
When your grape juice turns bad, you pour it out and get new grape juice. You don't shrug, choke it down, and get a buzz. The buzz is your body's reaction to something you shouldn't be taking in.
People in 2500 BC had very few options. We have infinite options today. Why drink spoiled beverages and pillage bird nests today?
I know I'm in the minority here, and will just be made fun of, but it's how I feel. I know all of the historical stuff about beer being easier to keep than water and this reason and that reason it's all continued to this day.
Excuse me if I find it bizarre. -shrug-

you don't like the taste or texture of eggs?
when do they become good?
poached, sunnyside up, over easy, over medium, fried had as hell, scrambled?

Can you describe what's good about the 2 parts of a boiled egg? The sulfur smell? The texture? How would you describe the taste of the yolk? Brag about it for me.
-

The only way I consume eggs is scrambled, with cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. But that seems like a lot of trouble for something that's just 'meh'.
-
for four months?
not sure I could do that for $10 million
the farts might kill me

Oh, and my distaste for eggs actually has zero to do with their motivation to keep "breakfast food" an invented, bullshit thing in order to keep business booming.
Totally separate issue.

Correct Bwar,I was just comparing them to tamale's on the taste scale.Until they pile on all the trappings. Those taste like filler to me that I'm truly grateful to eat but certainly don't fawn all of them.Like the Delmonico I'll be having later

Idk, maybe a society should try to improve things for people so that so many don't feel the need to drink to cope (and thus a drinking culture is born and celebrated).
I tend to doubt alcoholism was a thing before the stresses of an organized, tiered society. Maybe saved it for rare celebrations....
-

You better watch that cheese if you don't want fermented food
-
Fermentation is when something has turned or gone bad.
Disagree. Fermentation is utilizing the environment to transform something in a way that you want it to. Fermentation is basically food engineering.
And it's not just alcohol... Fermentation is part of LOTS of other foods. Now, some of them you may not like (sauerkraut, kimchi, etc). But they're done intentionally, whether it's for the purpose of developing that flavor, or whether it's for preservation as fermented foods keep longer.
And while alcohol can certainly be considered to be "bad for you" for many reasons, many types of fermented foods are known to be beneficial to your gut health. They're not "turned or gone bad" and dangerous to consume.
In fact, every time you eat leavened bread, you're taking advantage of fermentation. The bread rises BECAUSE the yeast is fermenting the starches in the flour.
Fermentation is a good thing.

Again, great points if this was 873 BC.
All leavened bread isn't fermented.
I think I'm guilty of wanting our species to fast-forward our development/cultural evolution, which is a stupid thing to expect.

I prefer to stay the same if changing means we don't get beer or wine or cheese or bread or vinegar or Asian food. I'm good getting rid of sauerkraut though.

You're saying we should stop eating delicious food because you think the production method is antiquated, no?
What's your end goal? Highly technologically produced gruel that is flavorless but contains your entire RDA or all vitamins, minerals, and calories? :57:

when that guy got beat deep, for the touchdown, you can shake it off and say that he's a special teams guy forced into a starting role. when he subsequently commits a 15-yard penalty on special teams, I've got nothing

Our team is so bad that when we get into FG range, we barely make 50% of them...

Glad that our offense has some sort of threat, with Lagway back. Good win and all.
My biggest thing is that it's been a long time since our DL had a big game and just got to eat! So many sacks and pressures and just felt like the Florida type of defense I grew up with.
I don't know what in the hell happened to our defense the past 3-4 years, but it fell off a cliff. It was the one thing we could count on for the 20 years previous.
It got it done today.

The OC and QB combo are killing the program.
How is the defense even going to give a shit anymore?
-
How do you rank the Wisconsin QBs after Russell Wilson?
-
A dead Russell Wilson would be better than what they have now.
1. Joel Stave
2. Jack Coan
3. Alex Hornibrook
4. Bart Houston
5. Graham Mertz
Any of the four would be a vast improvement over the worst college QB I've ever seen.
I'm trying to imagine how the locker room is not lost if they march this kid out there ever again.
-
Speaking of the locker room thing, I remain impressed with how hard Florida is playing. I think in a few years they will be veru glad they kept Napier, unfortunately.
-
Texas/Arky is interesting.
More interesting than I'd like it to have been, but a win's a win. That game is a holy war for them and until we can find a way to match their intensity, it's always going to be hotly contested.
Anyway, Kentucky at home this weekend, and then another holy war in College Station on 11/30. Season's getting FUN!
-
Both Texas and A&M have one conference loss each, so one or the other is very likely to make the CG, which these days is .... a curious thing. Sit it out and you probably make the playoff, make it and lose and ....... of course you have a 50% chance of winning, roughly speaking.
Losing a CG is a pretty bad thing even if you make the playoff, it means an extra game of wear and tear and a drop to maybe a 6-7-8 seed, or worse. Drop to a 9 and you face a good opponent on the road. Does winning the CG offset the risk of losing? Or are you better off missing it entirely?
-
CCG's are no longer meaningful.
-
CCG's are no longer meaningful.
They can be, but the downside risk is pretty severe in principle. Imagine a situation where some 9-3ish opponent shows up and upsets 12-0 for example. What's more probable, this season, is two 10-2 teams pair off and the loser is out, or gets a tough road opponent now instead of a bye. I used to think winning the conference was a good goal for a season, now it is .... dubious. I think overall if four 10-2 teams are vying for a spot in a CG, the two teams not chosen are better off.
-
Oregon and OSU win out.

I don’t know what it is, but this back up quarterback has somehow caused people around Wisconsin to go forget huge amount of history and lose their minds.
Before I get deep into this, I wanna say that I don’t think he’s a particularly good quarterback. He is a back up in an era where back ups probably should be their worst. He’s a guy who can have some moments against not great defenses. But he’s almost assuredly not going to beat a particularly good or talented defense without a good bit of support (which is most backups).
That said, I’m pretty sure that I have seen every one of those quarterbacks eat about as much shit as Locke did yesterday (I admittedly, have not seen a dead Russell Wilson play). A Wisconsin quarterback having a crap day against a very talented defense/Iowa is not uncommon. His run game was whatever, his past protection was shit. Receivers are somewhat good but there’s no Abby or Cephus out there. He’s not good, but he’s doing what a lot of Wisconsin quarterbacks do in that situation, and certainly what you would expect from a back up with blue chip pass rushers in his face all the time.
Maybe it is because the quarterback is in the middle of things or because this offense hides them less, but the kid went out and basically did the thing you expect many Wisconsin quarterbacks, and probably most backups to do. I’m not happy it happened. I’m guessing he will be gone at the end of the year anyway. But some people are catastrophizing this in a way that makes them sound like a really not watched a lot of this team before.
(worst you’ve ever seen? My friend, go see a memory specialist, you’ve seen worse. They were just handing off to better players)A
-
I would take any of those QB's I listed over Locke and it's not close.
Give me McEvoy even. Give me Mike Samuel. At least they could run. This kid can't do anything.
Backup? Longo named him QB 1B. What does that tell you? Tells me to fire Longo.
Joel Stave wins that game last night. Let's not be blind to how very bad/terrible Locke is.
-
Seems the games must be relatively uninteresting today.
Indeed.
Where were you guys? Debating ancient diets while the first window of games yielded a number of worthwhile observations?
#17 Colorado 49 – Utah 24: Earlier in this thread I criticized Kyle Whittingham for putting what is turning out to be a losing season on the injured shoulders and knees of Cam Rising. However against Colorado yesterday, Utah might’ve reached a turning point with Isaac Wilson (younger brother of Zach Wilson), who due to depleted depth at QB was thrown as a freshman to the wolves early. Yes, Wilson tossed 3 interceptions Vs Colorado, however he emerged as a much needed leader on offense, throwing 21/40, 236yds, & 2 TDs while the running game went cold. Wilson’s headier plays kept Utah closer than the final score indicated, and going forward gives the coaching staff not only a lot to work with in Wilson, but a capable starter to anchor the offense going into next season. At 4-6, Utah is having a down year, but prospects are at least looking better at QB for next season.
#3 Texas 20 – Arkansas 10: Definitely one of those “upset alert” games. Texas is one of only a few teams that can methodically assert their will on just about anybody even when they’re having an off day or aren’t getting breaks their way. Texas is like watching Penn State when Penn State is playing anybody not Ohio State or Michigan. Ok, admittedly that does sound relatively uninteresting.
#20 Clemson 24 – Pitt 20: Entertaining in its unlikely ending – QB Cade Klubnik sprints for a 50 yd game winning TD. All after Pitt put up a fight in the second half, controlling the lines to take a late lead after trailing at the half at 17-7. Given the colder weather combined with the physicality and the clock-controlling strategy of both teams, the gameplay appeared more like an NFL game played in Buffalo, Cleveland, or…Pittsburgh.
-
Clemson game was probably really good
I watched Colorado and Texas - never in doubt, not compelling to me
-
The South Carolina - Mizzou game was interesting, I thought, seemed like they had 4 lead changes in the final minutes.

well, the brass ring is the big prize of course
But, the brass ring is nearly unobtainable in a 12-team playoff
win the conf champ game and hang a pretty nice banner in the rafters, wear a ring for the rest of your life
sit out the champ game and get a slightly better chance to win the brass ring?
still gonna be a very tough task

the chop block call didn't need to be and usually isn't called
but, by the letter of the rule, I don't think it was a horrible call
it's these types of judgement calls that the #1 team in the conference get to their advantage to protect them
-
That call came at a critical moment. The Badgers probably win the game if that call doesn't happen - despite the QB and OC being incompetent.

No. You would take the best of any of those QBs. And that is a difference.
How about I give you Bart Houston losing his job by bombing against 3-9 Georgia State? Would you like Joel Stave coughing up four turnovers in a 10-6 loss to Iowa or completing 8 of 19 passes for 114 yards with three picks in a 20-14 loss to Northwestern?
Congrats! You're now the owner of Alex Hornibrook going 7-for-20 for 100 yards with two picks against Michigan! I bet that fella woulda fearlessly whipped Oregon last night. No doubt!
Maybe you'd like a Jack Coan going 9 for 20 for 60 yards with two picks against Penn State. Or the time he was 10-17 for 108 yards and got blasted by OSU. Graham Mertz? You can enjoy yourself a tall glass of 18-41 with four interceptions. Or perhaps I can pour you an 11-20 for 94 yards and and a pick in a blowout loss to the Buckeyes.
What the 1B thing says is that coaches say nice things about players because it doesn't profit them to say bad things. And many, MANY versions of Stave does not win that game. Pretending otherwise is silly. Here's some tape (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8Rt6ieNpoM&pp=ygUdd2lzY29uc2luIGF1YnVybiBvdXRiYWNrIGJvd2w%3D). We can watch Stave in Year 4 be so bad that third and 5 becomes a running down.
-

I have to admit, I thought the pass over the line seemed a hair suspect. Like it was close? Unless they explained something on the broadcast about why it was a really correct call.

He was already engaged with a lineman and the ref saw the RB go low, simple as that. Whether it was a good call or not, probably not, but all the indicators were there to throw the flag. It's a legit penalty maybe 88/100 times.

I wish Wisconsin had a QB.
hah, I wished that for Nebraska last season
my wish was granted, Raiola came out and played well the first 5 games of the season. GREAT!!!
Since then he and the offense have regressed to the point that the O-coordinator was demoted.
The new coordinator????
13 points!!!
Dylan Raiola 27 of 38 191 1td 2int
rushing - 119
passing 191
3rd down - 5-13
hopefully, the new coordinator improves going forward, 2 weeks isn't much time
-
If Mertz can be as good as he was at Florida, maybe those pedestrian QBs weren't the ones at fault?
All this being said, that had to be a gut-wrenching game to watch for you bastages. Sorry Wisconsin didn't pull it out.

I agree, but it's not usually called 88/100 - more like 44/100
it's called 100/100 in that particular situation

did Mertz get injured - he didn't play yesterday?
-
I agree, but it's not usually called 88/100 - more like 44/100
it's called 100/100 in that particular situation
When a guy is already engaged and the RB ducks his head and bends forward like that, it's called (or should be) a high % of the time. Most of the time, the RB chips with a shoulder up higher and makes himself a receiving target just beyond the LOS.
But taking on a blocker + another guy going low = a flag much of the time - they specifically look for that
But neither of us has data, so our estimates vary.
-
Yeah that chop block call was a really bad break. At a critical time. From the angle that ref had- I am sure he truly thought it was a chop.
It happens so often in tight games. Refs are human. They make mistakes but I don’t think it is intentional.
-
did Mertz get injured - he didn't play yesterday?
He's been out for the year since a month ago.
We were on our 3rd string guy while trying to upset Georgia.
Our FR backup is at least a threat, which helped us upset LSU last night.

Wisconsin made the mistake of trying to convert longer third downs with him. Billy wisely avoided that.
-
Every QB has a clunker in them. Just not every f'ing week.
He's a backup who faced defenses that are about No. 10, 2, 7 in the country by one advanced metric. A lot of UW QBs eat it against that. Maybe eat it slightly less badly, but not so little that people don't want them replaced by the end.
-
A lot of those prior UW QBs were handing the ball off to RBs averaging 6 ypc, to be fair.
-
Wisconsin made the mistake of trying to convert longer third downs with him. Billy wisely avoided that.
Very true, he's a game-manager and not put in positions to make mistakes or have to carry the load on offense. Kept his numbers great, but didn't help win games.

Marl Richt's team finished 10-3 the year he was fired. Firing a ten win coach USUALLY doesn't work out well.

He's a backup who faced defenses that are about No. 10, 2, 7 in the country by one advanced metric. A lot of UW QBs eat it against that. Maybe eat it slightly less badly, but not so little that people don't want them replaced by the end.
He's started 12 games now. He's not a backup. He's 1A. They clearly have nothing behind him. This is not OK.

The refs called this a chop block and it took away a Wisconsin 1st down
Bullshit
Someone needs to ref the referees - that's football
-
I can see how a ref would view that as a chop block "bang bang". I agree it wasn't, in slomo.
-
Yeah that chop block call was a really bad break. At a critical time. From the angle that ref had- I am sure he truly thought it was a chop.
It happens so often in tight games. Refs are human. They make mistakes but I don’t think it is intentional.
ya but too much coin in the cameras, equipment and components not to turn those calls over - IMHO of course
-
I'm never clear on what can be reviewed and what cannot. UGA benefitted greatly from a "12 men on defense" call that wasn't called until it was reviewed.
Holding, and PI, and chop blocks, etc. can't be reviewed, I reckon.

That's what needs to be tossed from the books the archaic decrees of yore. There are simple solutions that have been discussed ad nauseam to repeal this rot

The other odd call last night at UGA-Tenn was a defensive holding call on what turned into a running play. I had to think about that one. Beck went back to pass and was pressured and eluded the defenders and galloped ten yards into the end zone, and up pops the yellow flag indicator, which usually would be offensive holding on such a play.
But it was defensive.
ESPN and the SEC had a clear agenda in Athens against the Tennessee Vols and there's plenty of proof (https://atozsports.com/nashville/volunteers/espn-football-sec-clear-agenda-athens-georgia-tennessee-vols-proof/)
-
sometimes a pass isn't thrown because the WR is not open due to defensive holding early in the route
-
10 wins. I miss that stuff.
The defense was nails, and the offense was competent at a few things.
Plus that sweet Big Ten West schedule
-
Sweet, as long as you don't draw OSU, Michigan and Michigan State the same year. :111:
-
Evidently we're collectively not dialed in like we think we are. Newsflash 4-6 Kansas on the road beat undefeated No.6 BYU and no one noticed - after the gimme vs Utah last week doesn't come as a shocker
-
I noticed
but, I'm out west
-
Wisconsin fires its OC.
Florida gets 4* QB recruit who ditched FSU, so that's cool.
-
Plus that sweet Big Ten West schedule
Wisconsin only has 1 loss to a Big Ten West team, a road loss at Iowa, which is an extremely acceptable loss. I don't think all fans appreciated a path where they just had to be better than Iowa to get to a CCG for a decade.

I very much do.
Wisconsin is also not very good, but that another matter.

I was distracted by KU's worst helmets ever. Janky-ass old-timey Jayhawk, black helmet, white facemask.
